Hello Friends! Here is a fun little AU of what if Addie never was sent to apprentice with Whitebeard and became a Marine instead! She would have become an Admiral pretty quickly so here she is as Marine Admiral Shiroitori or White Bird.
Impel Down, Paradise
"So, you're Fire Fist Ace, Terror of the Grand Line. You don't look like much." She said and she stood in front of the damp cell.
She stood there at a relaxed parade rest with her hands loosely clasped behind her back. Her hair was braided back and pinned up into a tight, sensible bun while her Admiral coat hung heavy on her shoulders.
After a long moment Ace finally looked up to glare at the woman. "Admiral Shiroitori, what do you want? Don't you have hapless villages to burn?"
"No, fire isn't exactly my style. I tend to leave things of that nature to Akainu. Besides, we have something much more important to discuss."
"I have nothing to say to you."
"Then you will listen." She said with a glare. "You allowed yourself to be captured and brought here which-"
"I didn't let anything happen. That bastard was going to try and kill my little brother. I had to fight him."
"I really don't care about your excuses. The fact of the matter is that you are here and that has created a massive problem for me."
"For you? Right, I'm sure planning my execution has taken a real toll on you."
"You dumb ass. Do you really expect that you are going to be executed because of what you have done? Do you think the Government doesn't know who your birth father is?"
Ace gritted his teeth before saying, "The only father I have is Whitebeard."
"That's fine, but we both know that Edward Newgate isn't the man who impregnated your mother. Before you try and deny it, yes we do know who that man truly was. And yes Sengoku is going to announce it to the world."
Fear flashed in Ace's eyes for a second before it was crushed by anger. "No one would believe that. I'll go to my grave denying it. Whitebeard is my only father."
"Right, because the world would believe you, a criminal, over the Fleet Admiral. Be rational Ace, if you go to that execution, the entire world will know that the blood of Gold Roger lives on."
"Why do you care? Why are you even here?"
"Trust me, I wouldn't lose a minute's sleep if you were to be executed for your crimes. But I can not allow you to be executed because of the blood in your veins. That can not happen."
"Why not? What's it to you?"
She took a step closer to the bars and said, "Do you really think that Roger was the only one on his crew to have a child?"
Ace's brow furrowed as he looked closer into the Marine's green eyes, framed by strawberry blonde hair. Then they widened as he said, "Rayleigh."
"Is unfortunately the bastard who impregnated the whore who gave birth to me. I was adopted by a Marine and raised in Marineford. So obviously, I can't allow the precedent of executing people for their parent's crimes to be set. It would only be a matter of time before I was walking up to that platform as well."
"So you're only here to help yourself. Should have known."
"Obviously I'm here to help myself. What, were you hoping for some teary love confession? You might be a treat to look at but we just met Ace. You have no reason to trust me but you can trust that I will work for my own self interest. An interest that currently involves you getting back to your crew."
"So what's the plan then Admiral?"
"Well I can't just set you free, that would ruin my position as a Marine Admiral, but you also can't go to that execution. So what I can do is not get in the way of anyone who would come rescue you. Do you think anyone would come for you here? If you could manage to escape that would be ideal."
"My crew will come for me, or atleast I think they are dumb enough to try."
"Will they attack Impel Down or Marineford?"
"I don't know, probably Marineford."
"Damn, it would be easier for them to get you out here. Sure it's imposing but the security here is rather laughable if you look too closely at it. Do you have anyone else who might come for you?"
"No there's no way anyone else would be-"
He was cut off by the ringing of a Den Den Mushi. Ariadne reached into her pocket and pulled out a white baby Den Den Mushi and held up a finger for Ace to hold that thought as she answered it.
"Help! Admiral help! The prison is being attacked!" A voice screamed through the snail along with the sounds of several explosions.
"Alright, alright, no need to be testy, tell me what's happening. Who's attacking?" She said.
"There's a riot! He keeps letting out more prisoners! He's just one guy, how is he-" The man was cut off by a scream.
"Who?" Ariadne asked again.
"Straw Hat Luffy!" He managed to shout before there was another scream and the line was cut off.
She blinked at the now sleeping snail before turning back to Ace, "Friend of yours?"
Ace struggled against his shackles and said, "Don't you dare touch him! Don't you fucking dare hurt my little brother!"
"Little brother huh? Is he the one you got put in here to try and save? Didn't exactly work out in your favor now did it?"
"Shut up!"
"Alright, alright, no need to get testy. I'm just teasing. But this does help things, do you think he's strong enough to actually free you?"
"I-I don't know. To me he's the same stupid brat who could never beat me in a fight, but then again things alway seem to work out for that kid."
Ariadne nodded before sitting down on the ground in front of Ace's cell. "Well I guess we'll just have to wait and see."
"What are you doing?"
"Sitting here to wait and see if he makes it down here? Obviously?"
"But won't your higher ups want you to go try and stop Luffy?"
"Probably. But I can easily say that I thought it a better course of action to stay with you as a last line of defense. Or I can just say that I had so much confidence in the security of Impel Down that I didn't want to get in their way. Either way no one will be worried about me when this place goes to hell."
"I mean sure but this place was already hell."
"Wha- excuse me was that a joke?" Ariadne asked as she blinked at Ace.
Ace laughed weakly, "Yeah I guess? I don't know, I haven't eaten in like a week and haven't had a real conversation in even longer."
"Oh that reminds me." Ariadne said before reaching into the massive pocket on her justice coat and pulling out a granola bar. "I know it isn't much but I brought a few snacks for you."
She held it out to him through the bars and waited for him to take it. Ace stared back at her and blinked. Ariadne stared back.
"Ok are you going to take it or not?" She finally asked.
"Are you going to unchain me? I kind of can't move my arms here!" Ace shouted back.
Ariadne blushed slightly and said, "Oh, right. Sorry slipped my mind- wait so are you asking me to feed you?"
"Unless you want to unchain me then I can't exactly eat anything."
"Ugh fine." She said before unwrapping the bar and holding it closer to Ace's face. As he took a bite she groaned and said, "This is by far the most humiliating thing I've ever done."
"Yeah? Well how do you think I feel? I'm being fed by a Marine Admiral right now."
"Just shut up and eat your granola."
"Why did you become a pirate?" Ariadne asked after they had sat in silence for a few hours.
Ace sighed and rested his head against the back of his cell before asking, "Why do you want to know?"
"Because, despite what you might think, I see a good deal we have in common. I never wanted to be a pirate because I knew that people would compare me to my father. So did you just never think about that or what?"
"Of course I thought about it. But I wanted to be better than him. I wanted to be a great pirate so that I could be remembered for something more than just being his son."
"But surely you could have done that as a Marine?"
"I was partly raised by a Marine so no, that wasn't exactly an appealing idea."
"You mean Garp right?"
"Yeah, guess you must know him right?"
"He's actually a close friend of mine. He was my mentor before I officially joined the Marines."
"Wait what? So you know Gramps? And you still joined them?"
Ariadne shrugged as she said, "It's not like I had dreams of becoming a great Marine or anything like that. But The Marines were kind to me, they gave me a home and didn't think I was worthless. They believed in me."
"Almost sounds like my crew."
"Yeah? What are they like?"
"I'm not giving you intel on my family Marine."
"I'm not asking for it! I was just making conversation." Ariadne said with a huff.
After a minute Ariadne spoke up again, "I actually thought about tracking you down a hundred times, just so I could talk to you."
"Why?"
She shrugged and said, "People always expect me to be like my father, even in the Marines. Not many people know who my parents are but the ones who do still ask why I don't use a sword, why I didn't become a pirate, why I'm not more like Rayleigh. So I wondered if you felt the same way."
Ace was quiet for a long time before finally saying, "Devil's children have the devil's luck and that's the only reason I wasn't smothered as a baby. That's what everyone said about me when I was a kid. Everyone."
"That's awful." She said.
"Yeah."
"But you might really be lucky." She said after a minute
Ace snorted and said, "Yeah? How so?'
"Great pirates rarely make great parents." Ariadne said as she ran her hand over a tiny scar on her cheek.
Ace looked down at that before struggling to shrug and saying, "I guess, but Pops is a great pirate and a great father."
"How so?"
"I told him who my birth father was before he made me a division commander and do you want to know what he said? He said it didn't matter! That everyone is a child of the sea and that is all that matters."
"He really said that? And he meant it?"
"Of course he did. He never mentioned Roger ever again and never treated me any different after I told him. So yeah, Pops is great."
"Sounds nice." Ariadne said quietly as she stared off into the distance.
"Hey I told you about my dad so now it's your turn. You said you were adopted by a Marine right?"
She nodded slowly and said, "I was, and he was also great. I don't know if he knew who my birth father was actually. He never asked and I never told him, but he was truly great. He never laughed at my dream..."
"What dream?"
"Oh, nothing. It was a long time ago."
"Come on, I've never heard of a Marine having a dream beyond slaughtering pirates in the name of Justice."
Ariadne laughed sadly and said, "Personal dreams must be put aside so that Justice can prevail."
"Is that Fleet Admiral Sengoku I hear?"
"Kong, actually. But the sentiment is shared with every high ranking Marine. Only you pirates are allowed the freedom to dream."
"But you did have a dream, sounds to me like you're more of a pirate than you would like to believe. Come on tell me, I promise I won't laugh. And if I do then you can just leave me here forever."
"Don't tempt me."
After a long minute Ariadne finally said, "Music. I wanted to be a musician."
"Really? What kind of musician?"
"Any. I love music so much. I love orchestras, operas, shanties, jazz, anything, everything."
"Come with me." Ace said as he stood on the gangplank to the commandeered Marine ship.
Ariadne looked from his outstretched hand to his face and said, "Where?"
"To join my crew."
"You can't be serious. I'm a Marine."
"But you don't have to be. Pops won't care about what you used to be and he will let you be anything you want. You could be a musician."
"I could be a- no, no. I'm a Marine, I swore an oath to uphold Justice and that is what I'll do."
"Even if it means living your life in fear that they would execute you one day?"
"That's a burden I have to carry."
"But you don't."
Ariadne stared into Ace's eyes before saying, "He really won't care?"
"No one will."
"They'll let me sing?"
"We always have room for another musician on board."
"ok." She said as she reached out to take his hand.
Yay so there's that! I might write more about Marine Addie in the future but don't have any real plans right now. But thank you for reading and I hope you enjoyed! Feel free to leave a comment! Please! I have no friends (:
