Author Notes - Alright, time for Episode 8, Up the Creek! One of my less favourable episodes in canon, but still a good episode nonetheless, let's get into it!

The reason I'm doing her more like this now is due to the fact I have a lot more time to develop her then a 13 episode season, so its more of a progressive story arc, rest assured it looks a little weird but it'll make more sense in later seasons!

(Episode Fades In)

"Last time on Total Drama Island..." Chris began from the dock. "The competitors were forced to conquer their deepest darkest fears. Not all of them succeeded...but some of them surprised the group and conquered their fears head on! In a shocking twist, Tyler let the Bass down when he was too chicken...to face the chicken!" Chris paused to chuckle. "Get it? And it was bye, Tyler! And just like that, the Bass are now two behind. Can they pull one out of the water? Find out today on Total, Drama, Island!"

(Theme Song Plays)

The scene opened to the campers by the edge of the woods, with facing Chris' back who stood next to a board. "Bass, Gophers, today's challenge is a true summer camp experience. A canoe trip." The host informed as the camera panned past the contestants.

"You'll be paddling your canoes across the lake to, Boney Island." Chris informed in a creepier tone. "When you get there, you must portage your canoes to the other side of the island, which is about a two hour hike through treacherous, dead, jungle!" The host finished explained.

"We gotta por what?" Chase asked.

"Instead of constant pranks, you should really consider opening a dictionary sometime." MK quipped, which Dave chuckled at.

"Portage." Chris enunciated, as Chase gave an even more confused look. "Dude, you walk with the canoe."

"Oh, got ya." The Prank Artist simply replied.

"When you arrive at the other end of the island, you will build a rescue fire that will be judged by me. The first team to paddle home and return their canoes to the beach is the winner of invincibility. Move campers, move!" As the campers began to shuffle off screen.

"Oh wait, one more thing I should mention. Legend has it if you take anything off the island, you'll be cursed forever." Chris returned in his creepy tone as a lightning sound effect played.

"Hehe, cool." Sam chuckled lightly breaking the silence.

"Now, get in your canoes and lets have some fun!" Chris said as the contestants began to leave.

Beth suddenly ran on screen next to the host with a little toilet paper on the bottom of her foot. "What did I miss?" She asked.

"Canoes." Chris said, pointing to the side as Beth ran to her team.

"So Chris told us we had to go in groups of two with one group of three each, felt like a good chance for me to get to know Courtney better." Dave confessed. "You know, like does she own her hand sanitizer, that type of thing."

The scene returned to Courtney walking down the steps as Dave appeared on screen. "Soo, have you decided who you're gonna partner with yet?" Dave shly asked,as Courtney's eyes went side to side.

"Okay, don't get me wrong, I really wanted to go with Dave, but I couldn't afford to let myself get distracted right now, so I..." Courtney told the confessional

"Oh, yeah, I already said I'd go with...Dawn! She's my partner!" Courtney suddenly pulled Dawn in with an arm around her as the Moonchild looked very confused.

"You did?" She asked.

"Uh huh, come along now!" Courtney quickly pushed Dawn off screen as Dave sighed.

"Dave! Come join us!" Dave looked up as Julia was in a boat motioning for him to join. Dave shrugged and slightly jogged.

The camera panned to the side showing Chase, Eva and MK.

"So...I guess that just leaves us." MK sighed.

"Oh come on MK, this will be fun!" Chase said as he pulled the pair in for a big hug, both giving annoyed expressions. Eva nudged him causing him to fall down and walked to the boat.

"Huh, you're right Chase, this will be fun." MK grinned as she looked down at the groaning boy before walking to the boat.

"Great...just...great." Eva sighed in the confessional

The scene returned to the Gophers deciding their groups, with Damien and Sam walking along, Damien giving a look at Priya before returning, Beth talking as Scott looked visibly annoyed, Zoey and Priya conversing, with Priya also looking at Damien, and finally Cody and Zee sitting in the canoe as Jasmine pushed it into the water.

"Is it bad that a small part of me is kind of happy that Jasmine didn't decide to join Zoey and I? After the camping challenge it's been pretty tense lately..." Priya confessed.

The scene returned to all the boats now in the water with Chris standing on the beach. "On your marks...get set...paddle!" Chris said as he shot the gun into the air. The contestants paddled, as a bird fell from the sky by Chris.

"That's gonna provoke some angry emails..."

The camera flashed, as the scene returned to Courtney and Dawn paddling in the boat, in awkward silence.

"So, thanks for going along with this, that must've been pretty awkward." The A Type said, breaking the silence with an awkward laughter.

"It's perfectly fine." Dawn responded, "Besides, it goes perfectly in line with your focusing on winning attitude."

"What do you mean by that?" Courtney replied raising an eyebrow.

"It's perfectly fine wanting to win, this is a competition after all, but I fear if you don't relax and learn to take experiences once in a while, you'll implode on yourself." Dawn advised, as she turned to face her.

"Huh, that's actually pretty good advice. You should speak up more Dawn, you'd probably help end this team's losing streak." She replied warmly.

Dawn giggled into her hand, as the two continued on.

The camera panned over to Damien and Sam, as the two paddled onwards.

"So, how you been holding up without your video games? I know it can't be easy for you." Damien asked.

"Well I was actually doing better than I thought, well...at least until what happened yesterday." Sam replied as he looked up.

The camera flashed, showing a flashback of yesterday where Sam wa hidden behind a bush, throwing acorns off screen. Cody walked by and gave a concerned look. "Sam...what are you doing?"

"Getting a new high score on Duck Hunt? What else!" The Gamer exclaimed, as he continued throwing the acorns at the ducks which yelped off screen. "Yes! Bonus hit!"

The camera flashed back to Sam and Damien in the boat. "Yeah...might've upset an animal rights group or two." He chuckled.

"Well if it helps I'm here for you to talk to man, for what its worth this show is nothing like I expected anyway." Damien smiled.

"Thanks man." Sam gave a polite smile, before giving a sad expression as he looked on.

The camera panned to Priya and Zoey in their boat.

"So, how come you didn't ask Damien to partner up?" Zoey asked Priya.

"Well, honestly I considered it but I didn't think Jasmine would've been a huge fan." Priya sheepishly replied.

"Yeah, I can understand that, still I'm rooting for you guys. I don't know much about guys but I think he's into you." Zoey said, to which Priya blushed lightly.

"Really?"

"Yeah, really." Zoey smiled, before widening her eyes. "If anything, how about I ask Sam to switch so you guys can be in the same boat on the way back?"

"Seriously? I'd totally owe you one! You're a good friend Zoey." Priya responded as Zoey perked up.

"Huh, so this is what it's like to have a girl friend." Zoey confessed with a smile on her face. "Last time I tried to make friends with a group of girls back home they just ended up throwing gum in my hair," Zoey added with a chuckle before pausing. "That's not going to happen here right?

"Say...was all this fog here before?" Zoey said, as Priya began to notice it as well.

"I don't recall..." Priya said slightly worried, as the camera panned outwards to show all the boats now arriving at Boney Island, pulling up on the sand.

"Seriously? Doesn't a giant skull on the cliff just feel a little on the nose?" MK frowned.

"Okay but it does look pretty awesome, imagine bungee jumping off that!" Chase ecstatically replied, as he ran forward.

"Such a loose cannon." Eva shook her head and sighed as her and MK followed.

As the Gophers picked up their boats, they paused when they heard a shrieking noise coming from the woods.

"Okay, now I really hope we can get this over with." Damien gulped, as Sam nodded and they began running.

The camera flashed to show all the teams now running through the forest, with a few of them giving nervous glances to the sticks with skulls on them around the woods. The Gophers pulled ahead of the Bass but got stopped as a tree fell down, allowing the Bass to take the lead.

The camera cut to the bushes as a few yellow eyes began to peer out of them, and a few of the trees began to rustle.

"I think I saw something..." Cody whispered to his teammates. The camera cut back to the trees as giant beavers with tusks began to appear out of the trees and surround the Gophers.

"Monster beavers!" Cody screamed, as the Gophers began to scream running away.

"A remnant of the Pleistocene era, the Wooley Beaver is a day active rodent indigenous to Boney Island." Chris educated calmly in the confessional. "Oh yeah, they're also meat eaters."

The camera returned to the Gophers running screaming, as Beth and Scott ran close to a bush, which a bear popped out of causing them to change direction, before the beavers began to follow them. The bear put on glasses and looked around in confusion. The camera cut back to the Gophers running as Scott looked ahead and gasped.

"Oh great, now we're trapped." The Gophers stopped by the bottom of a cliff area in the water, as the mutant beavers stopped and turned away.

"Wait, they're leaving just like that?" Beth asked in confusion.

"Well at least Cody didn't pee his pants this time." Scott mused, causing Cody to blush as the team chuckled. The team stopped chuckling as suddenly mutant geese appeared from the nests, causing Scott to groan.

The camera flashed to show the Gophers now running away from the Geese, cutting to the bear from earlier breaking their glasses.

"Okay, does anyone have any ideas?" Jasmine yelled.

"Oh wait, my pants!" Cody exclaimed as he suddenly pulled bread from there.

"And why on Earth do you have that!?" Priya asked.

"Well...erm..." Cody stopped and stuttered.

"Okay, so I was going to maybe make a romantic picnic for MK, sue me!" Cody confessed.

xxx

"Who cares, just throw it dude!" Zee exclaimed as Cody hurled it to the side, causing the Geese to stop and pick at it. The Gophers stopped and looked, sighing in relief, before noticing the Bass just up ahead.

"Okay, one problem down, now to get back in the game, move Gophers move!" Jasmine rallied as the team continued onwards.

The camera flashed, showing a split in the path as the Bass appeared by it.

"So, left or right?" Julia said, turning to her team.

"The left path has a smaller sense of danger to it." Dawn told her team.

"True, but the right path looks wider, less chance of dirt and mud hopefully." Dave added.

"Well if the right path is wider, it looks the better choice then." Courtney added in agreement, as Dave smiled at her causing her to blush and turn away. "Purely for the team!" She added, as the team went on the right path, cutting to Dawn smiling.

The camera cut to the Gophers now running to catch up.

"The other team is just up ahead." Sam informed.

"And they're going right." Damien added.

"Let's go left then." Jasmine informed, as they headed down that path.

The camera flashed, showing the jagged mountains and ruined trees of Boney Island, before panning down to show the Gophers walking down the left path, Damien and Sam in the lead. Damien suddenly stopped, and slowly went downwards.

"Is this quicksand!? Are you serious Chris!?" Damien exclaimed.

"Were dangerous unknown species not enough man?" You had to throw quicksand into the mix!?" Damien confessed angrily.

xxx

Chris simply laughed in the confessional. "Can you believe they fell for that? I set it up! But I didn't think anyone would actually fall into it! That's just great!" Chris laughed even harder.

"Wait, I got you man!" Zee said as he began to pull onto Damien, before getting sent into the quicksand as well. "Wow dude, I did not see that coming like at all" Zee said with a chuckle as he sipped on a soda, causing Damien to facepalm.

Sam suddenly appeared swinging on a vine, attempting to grab Zee's arm, before missing spectacularly and hitting a tree. "Epic fail..." The Gamer groaned as he hit the ground.

Damien grabbed onto the vine, pulling himself up with Zee tugging onto his leg. Sam walked back into view with Damien and Zee now safe on the ground, Zee looking all too casual about it.

"Hey thanks man, you really saved our butts there." Damien went in for a high five which Sam missed before hitting the ground. "Yeah, we might have to carry him now." Damien added causing Jasmine to eyeroll.

"Points for the save I'll give him that, but definitely loses points for the handicap." Jasmine groaned.

xxx

The scene returned to the Bass walking calmly through the woods, as Chris narrated a voice over. "Just when things were looking up for the Bass...disaster struck."

Dave suddenly went down, and grabbed his ankle in pain.

"Ah, it's my leg!" He groaned in pain.

"Oh my, are you okay?" Courtney said as she knelt down to him.

"No joke, that might've been one of the worst injuries I've ever seen." Julia said with a serious look on her face.

xxx

"Not really, I don't think I'll be able to walk properly for a while." Dave said getting up, as he put an arm around Chase.

"Well, how about I go with Julia, and Dave can sit on top of Eva and Chase's canoe." MK suggested

"Seems like our best idea, hang in there Dave." Courtney told him, giving him a little hand on his chest, to which Dave began to look dreamily at her.

"So worth the pain." Dave said, looking dreamily in the confessional.

xxx

The camera returned to show a small splinter in Dave's leg, before cutting out to show him on top of the canoe as the Bass arrived at the beach, whilst the Gophers were already getting started with their fire.

"Woah, that looks bad." Jasmine said sympathising with Dave's injury.

"Yeah, no time to worry about them though, we got a fire to start." Scott informed The Outbacker, to which she looked surprised and nodded.

"I'm hoping after the last few days, I've dropped off of Jasmine's radar, so when the time finally comes..." Scott snapped a stick in half before screaming in pain and sucking on his finger. "Damn splinter."

The camera returned to the Bass now having a fire going, whilst the Gophers looked surprised.

"How did they do that so fast?" Sam asked in surprise.

The camera cut to Mk who pulled out a barbecue lighter from her jacket and winked at the camera.

"No rule against using lighters." Chris said as the camera cut to him in the helicopter. "Edge, Killer Bass."

The camera cut to the Gophers and Bass gathering more wood, as it closed in on Cody walking near MK.

"Oh, hey MK, how's the challenge going for you guys?" Cody asked.

"Well we actually got our fire started, so slightly better than you guys I'd say." She smirked.

"Yeah yeah, well you seem parched, how about a soda?" Cody said pulling two out of his trousers.

"Did you just pull that out of your trousers?" She asked, with a confused look.

"Well where else would I keep them?" Cody asked simply.

She looked oddly, before laughing and then taking one and walking away. Cody pumped his fist as he headed back to his team's side.

The camera flashed to Zoey and Priya putting twigs in the fire before Damien ran to their side. "Okay guys, I think I got it!" Damien said running out of the woods and near the fire, holding a green looking sticky ball with twigs mixed into it.

"What's that?" Zoey asked.

"It's a makeshift fire starter, with what I know about chemistry that should get it roaring." Damien smiled eagerly.

"Well if it's going to end up anything like your talent show performance we should be good." Priya joked as she punched him in the arm, earning a chuckle from Sam and Beth.

"Yeah, on that note we should probably stand back." Scott said as he took a major step back.

"Relax, it's only a basic one, how big could it possibly-" Damien was unable to finish his sentence as the fire began to roar high up, nearly hitting Chris in his helicopter.

"We have our first fire building winners! Advantage, Gophers!" Chris yelled out, as the camera cut down to the Gophers standing away, and Damien walking woozily.

"Nice one Damien!" Jasmine said attempting to high five him, before Damien hit the ground.

"Ouch, that makes twice today ey lads?" Jasmine said as she turned to Sam with a smirk, who looked away bashfully, still holding onto his leg.

"Bass, you might want to up the fire so you can start heading out as well." Chris called down from the helicoptor.

"Well we're not going to get anywhere with twigs, any idea?" Mk asked her team, drinking the soda from earlier.

"Yeah, how about this?" Chase said before throwing all the oars into the fire, as his team looked on in shock.

"You idiot!" Eva hissed before tackling Chase and taking him off screen.

"You know, normally I'd stop this but he had this one coming right?" Courtney said turning to her team as they all nodded.

The camera flashed to show the Gophers heading into their boats and heading away, Damien now with Priya and Sam with Zoey, before panning to the Bass.

"Great job Chase, now how do you suggest we get back!?" Julia hissed.

"Well at the time that seemed like a future us problem." Chase shrugged, as Courtney facepalmed.

"Any ideas Dawn?" Courtney said turning to the Moonchild.

"Now that you mention it...there is one possible way we could overturn this..." Dawn said, turning to Eva.

The camera flashed to show Eva pushing all of the Bass on their canoes, overtaking the Gophers back to the main island.

"Well, in an unexpected turn on events, the winners are, The Killer Bass!" Chris informed as the Bass began to break out into cheers.

"Oh you've got to be kidding me!" Jasmine groaned, as she stormed out of the canoe.

"Well, this is a tough one." Damien said turning to Priya.

"Any idea who we would even vote?" Priya asked, as Damien began to murmur in thought.

The camera cut to the Mess Hall, as Beth stepped outside and sat on the stairs holding a strange looking idol, Scott walked by and noticed this.

"Say, Beth where did you get that?" He asked.

"Oh this? I picked it up off Boney Island, doesn't it look cool?" She simply said.

Scott flashbacked to what Chris said about cursed items off Boney Island and got a great idea.

"You know what, It actually does! You should hold onto that when we have our challenges, who knows, it might bring us some good luck." He told the girl who nodded eagerly, before giving a dark grin as he walked away.

"Well, it seems biding my time might've finally made it all worthwhile." Scott confessed.

The scene returned to show the Screaming Gophers at the campfire ceremony, Chris to the side of them. "And now, the always anxiety inducing marshmallow ceremony. When I call your name, come and get a marshmallow." Chris informed, as per usual.

"Beth, Damien, Priya." Chris called out, as the three stood up and collected theirs.

"Cody, Zee, Jasmine." The three followed, all grabbing theirs and joining the previous three by the side.

"Zoey." Chris simply said, as she stood up, leaving Scott and Sam all by themselves.

"And the final marshmallow goes to...Scott." Chris said as Scott pumped a fist and went to join them, Sam looking on in surprise.

"Sam, sorry bro, the Dock of Shame awaits." Chris informed him, as he looked down sad.

"Well, I guess it was for the best, at least now I can get back to finally completing my games list." He said forcing a half hearted smile, to which Damien returned him.

The scene cut to Sam walking down the shame and boarding the boat of losers, before returning to the campfire.

"The rest of you, you're all safe. For now."

The camera cut to the outside of the Bass girls cabin, where Courtney and Julia stood, conversing.

"What did you want Julia? Couldn't it wait until morning?" Courtney asked, with slight annoyance.

"Relax Courtney, I just wanted to remind you about the little favour you owe me from the last challenge." Julia smirked as Courtney sighed.

"Fine, what do you want? Then we're even."

"Its simple, the next elimination, you vote who I tell you to. And then we're good." Julia told her as she walked away, leaving Courtney to look down in worry.
