AUTHORS NOTE
We are back to the fights, and though this may be a bit of a dull and short chapter when compared to the next few fights. It will serve you well down the line to remember the names of these OC I made for the support course. Also, just a side note, when this chapter is released to all the websites I post on. Back in the first fight you will notice that I will have fixed an error with one of the support course students' name explanations. I do so as their name is an important clue to what their future role will be in the story. After all, I plan on giving names only to those who will have key parts in the story at some point.
UA SPORTS FESTIVAL
WEST TUNNEL
(THIRD PERSON POV)
Fumikage Tokoyami and Mezo Shoji both were nonchalant and unconcerned about the stress from the competition so far. Not because they were so confident that they foolishly thought they would easily win against everyone. But because they were used to the pressure they experienced everyday for being mutant quirk users, although to very different degrees.
Their opponents however did have them concerned. This was not due to their fighting skills, but due to the fact they knew next to nothing about.
If the two young men were facing any of the other hero students. They could easily use their student ID and password to watch the recordings of the training exercises. But the support students not only had quirks they did not know about but could have almost anything up their sleeves in terms of weapons. As such they could not predict what they could have, minus any quirk suppressants as the principal had collected all of them.
But the first two battles did give them a decent idea of what they might see coming, and if so then the two would have some trouble. Tokoyami's sentient quirk Dark Shadow was extremely weakened when exposed to intense light. Meanwhile Shoji's quirk revolved around growing extra limbs and even sensory organs. So, he would also be more vulnerable if they forced him into a situation to make extra ears or noses to try and track them through a smokescreen.

EAST TUNNEL
(THIRD PERSON POV)
After seeing that first fight as well as Hatsume and that mushroom girl battle against the Todoroki heir. Both support course students were now determined to try and win, rather than just stall the fight to show off their support gear as much as possible. As such Miyoshi Ryuushi and Kou Shuuri were doing a final check before their fight.
"Is your rifle good to go?" Miyoshi asked him as she adjusted her supply belt that she could keep twenty grenades on at a time and other such items like spare ammo for her partner. She was always told growing up by her parents she always would pack too much in her bag wherever she went. So, she made a belt, this was due to her partner sounding like her parents. Telling her that her original bag design was too big to carry through the first two events.
"Oh yeah, those two are going to enjoy a face full of rubber bullets." Kou told her in response with a small smirk as he gave his very basic designed rifle the final check. In years past they would have said no unless his request to use one, even with something like capture ammo designed to knock someone out instantly.
But after the incident last year with that Maple girl, they said they needed to even out the playfield more than ever before. Something he was grateful enough for that he would hold back and let her play a bit before he tried to take her down.
"Try to be careful not to go too overboard. Just because they allowed you to use rubber bullets does not mean you won't get expelled if you cause a permanent injury." She told him as she rolled her piercing blue eyes, as he was one of the few people she met at UA that did not flinch when she glared at them.
"Yeah yeah silver backpacker, I know I can't just fix them like support gear if I break them." Kou told her as a larger smirk stretching almost all the way up to his steely gray eyes that ran in his family. A trait his parents named him after as they hoped he would get his fathers eyes as his mother thought they looked nicer than her own. The smile, however, was born from the fact that he knew she hated his nickname for her that referenced her hair color and bad habit.
"STOP CALLING ME BY THAT NICKNAME YOU GAVE ME! AND STOP BEING AS HARDHEADED AS YOUR NAME!" She yelled back at him red in the face as she half heartedly punched his shoulder repeatedly. Causing his black hair to sway as he suddenly scooted back to avoid her fists.
While his parents had given him a name that referred to steel, iron, and hardened metals in general, they had no idea how his personality would easily match it. His family however, lived as their last name was spelled, focusing on the logical and safer career of fixing stuff instead of the riskier path of creating something new. But he had a desire to be a creator, to build all that he had envisioned in his heart since he saw his first hero fight as a little kid.
"I know, I know, but at least your now more relaxed, right?" He told her, smiling as his teasing was meant to get her to forget about her anxiety so she could fight her best. Kou knew full well that just like him, her family did not approve of her going into the support course as their family stretched several generations as a jewelry business. What had bright them together was the fact that they both were inspired by heroes to want to make the cool support gear they saw them using when fighting villains. Contributing to the overall peace of their society by assisting the heroes.
"...Yeah that helped a lot, thank you." Miyoshi said, wanting to not be trapped by her family lineage or name like he did.
Her name, the first half that is, was a nod to her dad's vision enhancement quirk her parents hoped she would inherit. The second half of her name was meant to hint at her mother's quirk that replicated the scent of anything she ever smelled. Her last name was more related to her family business which was apparently how they got their last name. Apparently when the first jeweler in their family started the current business, they had a reason for changing their name shortly before quirks began to appear.
UA SPORTS FESTIVAL
CENTRE FIELD
(THIRD PERSON POV)
"Coming from the western tunnel are two boys who carved a path for themselves using the very uniqueness that others have shone the two of them for. FUMIKAGE TOKOYAMI AND MEZO SHOUJI!" Midnight declared as the two boys swaggered into the arena getting a mix of boos and cheers.
The hate filled comments discouraging them was something the two boys had grown used to since they were little. While the cheers, though most lukewarm due to them just being in the hero course, there were a good few who cheered them on supporting their struggle. As for the support students, they were neither cheered on nor booed off the stage.
"And from the eastern tunnel, are two proud inventors who will be looking to avenge their fellow inventors. MIYOSHI RYUUSHI AND KOU SHUURI!" Midnight called out, as the young lady was looking down embarrassed while the young man gave a vicious and confident smile to the hero course students.
Looking to both teams once they took their positions and were clearly ready, Midnight gave the signal. Once the countdown was over, "BEGIN!" she cried out with a wave of her fan as it started out with a literal bang.
Miyoshi did not hesitate to launch two of her five smoke grenades she could carry out to the fight. By doing this, she could prevent them from seeing her partner as he pulled out his gun he had strapped and hidden behind his back. The reason they were confident they would not get attacked, was despite the fact that they knew blocking out the sunlight would strengthen Dark Shadow. It was exactly what they wanted to occur.
Normally strengthening your opponent's quirk was a bad idea. But due to Dark Shadow suddenly weakening as soon as they left the cover of the smoke to attack them. They knew he would not risk unleashing his quirk till the smoke was gone and his attack would have constant power throughout.
"Shoji my comrade, could you grow some ears to decipher what they are doing beyond our currently darkened vision?" Tokoyami asked his partner, not liking the fact they took the risk of strengthening his quirk. This was due to him being able to create a dust cloud by smashing the ground to reach them at near max power if he wanted to.
"Already on it. But maybe you should tone down the theatrics for the sake of fast reactions?" He told his dramatic classmate/partner. Hoping this would not continue when they eventually face someone like Maple who would not standstill for even a moment. That was when he heard a clicking noise and recognized it from the recent attack.
"DUCK!" Shoji yelled to Tokoyami as he knelt before them, stretching his arms out wrapping them around him. Making sure they ducked their head into the shield/cocoon made of his skin. It was just in time as well, cause as soon as the smoke started to clear, he was hit with a painful barrage of rubber bullets.
"DAMN THAT ROUGH! NOW THAT'S WHAT I CALL UNLOADING ONTO SOMEONE!" Mirko called out excitedly, remembering she once charged through a storm of bullets while she borrowed a shield from a swat officer.
"I am sure you're experienced with rough stuff due to your wife but try to stay focused on the fighting." Aizawa lightly scolded her, knowing it would embarrass the pain in his ass rabbit he was forced to commentate with. At least his friend could be heard through the heavy-duty noise canceling headphones that were prepared before the sports festival. But now, in his opinion, he had to put up with full volume yelling and mindless idiocy combined into one.
"SHUT THE HELL UP HOBO!" Mirko yelled back, embarrassed he brought up her sex life when she was just making a regular comment. Well, she was intending for it to be a regular comment, but her wife was Midnight of all people.
The audience laughed at this commentary, finding these two just as humorous if not more so than Eraserhead and Present Mic previous years.
"In any case, it really is a brutal attack strategy. The first half blinded them and made them go on the defensive right away. While the second half is so aggressive that there is next to no room for a counter attack." Aizawa said just as people began questioning why the support student was allowed to use literal gun.
"Cowards." Random Audience Member #1
"Absolutely pathetic" Random Audience Member #2
"I bet their quirks are absolutely useless." Random Audience Member #3
"Cheating little mechanics." Random Audience Member #4
Sadly, for these people in the audience, and fortunately for the support course student, he heard these ever-growing comments and spoke up.
"SHUT THE HELL UP!" Aizawa yelled, scaring the audience again as he needed to reprimand them once more. But as he was about to lecture them, Mirko put a hand on his chest to hold him back from doing another lecture.
"As much as I prefer to fight with my body rather than weapons. There are plenty of heroes who I acknowledge as strong despite relying on their support gear. Not because of their weapons, but because of the time they took to master and hone their skills with such weapons. So, before you idiots give them anymore shit… remember that I will and can shove my foot up your whiny little asses if you give the support course students any less respect than the hero course students." Mirko said pissed beyond what she normally gets as Izuku was also a support student, so she did not hold back in her speech.
"If this keeps up, we won't be able to attack them before you collapse." Tokoyami said to Shoji, not wanting his partner to suffer anymore shielding. But he had no other way to defend as they probably had flash grenades with them.
"Don't worry, I can keep taking them." Shoji said trying to sound confident and not worry his teammate. But in reality, he was starting to approach his own threshold for pain tolerance.
"You know, it's times like this where I wish I had claws to dig myself out of this mess, instead of all these slithery arms." He joked trying to lighten the mood, adding in the insults he took over the years when compared to an octopus. Though he was a bit upset if he had to be honest, that they would lose before getting to challenge Maple or Himiko.
"Digging? Slithering?... Maybe?" Tokoyami began mumbling as he and Dark Shadow were thinking if they could do it.
"You have an idea?" Shoji asked them, wondering what kind of a plan they were cooking up in their head.
"I think we do, just be ready to tackle them when we tell you to." Tokoyami said as he and Dark Shadow got down to business and began enacting his plan.
Just as Kou began to run out of the bullets before he had to reload. Miyoshi stepped in to throw one flash grenade out of her nine and one of her six regular grenades. The explosive power and the flash/noise was just barely enough to hold Tokoyami and Shoji down, cracking the ground slightly between the two groups.
"IF YOU WANT TO THROW IN THE TOWEL NOW, I WON'T BLAME YOU!" Kou called out to them, putting on a fake smile and false bravado in his voice. In truth he and Miyoshi were panicking on the inside as he was even more tanky than they originally thought.
"I don't like saying this, but I think we need to risk getting closer to break through their guard." She told her partner, hoping to win from a long range with the flash grenades and his gun.
"I agree, you stick behind me so you can duck to the sides to throw your grenades at them when they leave themselves vulnerable to attack me." He told her, knowing that he would need to charge in and trade direct strikes with them to get her the chance to blast them out of the ring.
"WHAT! I can't let you get atta-" Miyoshi was in the middle of protesting when the ground shattered underneath her. Dark Shadow striking her in a direct uppercut knocking her back, and unconscious.
"MIYOSHI!" Kou called out to her, unable to do anything as the cracked ground beneath them fully broke and filled the air with dust blocking his vision. This also gave Dark Shadow a momentary boost he needed to stretch out and knock the gun out of their hand. This allowed Shouji to charge in and take him clear out of the ring with a devastating six fist punch.
"AND THE WINNERS ARE FUMIKAGE TOKOYAMI AND MEZO SHOUJI!" Midnight declared as the audience cheered at the explosive ending despite the relatively short fight.
Getting up first was Kou, who walked over to his partner and picked her up, catching the attention of the teachers.
"There's no need to carry her yourself young man, we will have the medical bots carry her." Cementoss told him, right as said robots approached them asking for the girl.
"Thanks for the offer, but I prefer to be the one to carry her there. It's the least I need to do for her." Kou responded, shoving the robots that were annoying him aside as he didn't need her to give him crap later. Little did he know, she would get upset later at him because she felt embarrassed by him carrying her, in fact…
"Oh my, I understand, I do." Midnight said giggling as she covered her mouth, making both students and Cementoss sweat a little. With only Cementoss knowing what is likely about to come out of her mouth. "If you want some alone time with your girlfriend you're free to use the waiting room you were using for the third round. Just make sure you keep things pg13, Okay?" She said, making Kou go red in the face as he ran off to the nurse's office in embarrassment.
