Detective Jay Halstead sat at his desk in the bustling 21st District precinct, deeply engrossed in a case file. The usual sounds of the precinct—phones ringing, officers chatting—filled the air. Suddenly, the door swung open, and in walked Sylvie Brett, a paramedic from Firehouse 51. She bore a striking resemblance to Jay's fiancée, Detective Hailey Upton.
"Excuse me, I'm looking for Detective Halstead?" Sylvie asked, smiling as she looked around.
Jay glanced up, his eyes widening in surprise. For a moment, he thought he was seeing Hailey. He stood up, slightly on edge.
"Hailey? What are you doing here?" he asked, confused.
Sylvie laughed softly. "No, I'm Sylvie Brett. I'm a paramedic with Firehouse 51. We haven't met, but I've heard a lot about you."
Jay relaxed a bit, though the resemblance still unnerved him. He gestured for her to sit.
"Sorry, you just… you look a lot like my fiancée. What can I do for you?"
"I came to drop off some reports and thought I'd introduce myself. It's nice to finally meet you," Sylvie said, handing over the reports.
Jay nodded, still slightly distracted by the uncanny resemblance. He took the reports from her
"Thanks, Sylvie. It's nice to meet you too. And, uh, welcome to the 21st District."
Sylvie smiled warmly and nodded before heading out. Jay watched her leave, shaking his head slightly as he processed the encounter.
In the parking lot of the 21st District, Sylvie Brett walked briskly towards the ambulance, her mind still on the encounter with Detective Jay Halstead. She climbed into the passenger seat, her cheeks slightly flushed. Her partner, paramedic Violet Mikami, was already in the driver's seat, ready to go.
Violet noticed Sylvie's blush and smirked.
"Well, someone's looking a little rosy. Did something interesting happen in there?"
Sylvie tried to play it cool.
"Oh, nothing much. Just met Detective Halstead. He thought I was his fiancée for a second."
Violet laughed. "Really? You must look a lot like her then. Did he freak out?"
"A little," Sylvie admitted with a smile. "But he was nice about it. It was just… unexpected."
Violet started the ambulance, still grinning.
"Well, you definitely made an impression. Maybe next time you can tell him you're not just a lookalike, but a paramedic extraordinaire."
Sylvie laughed, shaking her head as they drove off, the blush still lingering on her cheeks.
Detective Jay Halstead sat at his desk, staring at the case file in front of him, but his mind kept drifting back to Sylvie Brett.
The resemblance to Hailey was uncanny, and he couldn't shake the feeling of déjà vu. Detective Kim Burgess walked by and noticed Jay's distracted expression. She stopped and nudged him gently.
"Hey, Jay. You okay? You look like you've seen a ghost," Kim said.
Jay snapped out of his thoughts.
"Huh? Oh, yeah. I'm fine. Just… met someone earlier who looked a lot like Hailey."
Kim raised an eyebrow. "Really? Who?"
"A paramedic named Sylvie Brett. She came by to drop off some reports. For a second, I thought it was Hailey," Jay explained.
Kim smirked. "Must have been quite a shock. Did you tell Hailey about it?"
Jay shook his head. "Not yet. I didn't want to make a big deal out of it. But it was… weird."
"Well, if you need to talk about it, you know where to find me. And maybe next time, you can introduce us. I'd love to see this doppelgänger," Kim said with a grin.
Jay chuckled, feeling a bit more at ease. "Thanks, Kim. I'll keep that in mind."
The ambulance pulled into the bay at Firehouse 51. Sylvie Brett and Violet Mikami stepped out, still chatting about their encounter at the 21st District. As they walked towards the entrance, they saw the rest of the squad gathered outside, taking a break.
"Hey, you two. What's got you all giggly?" Kelly Severide called out, noticing them.
Violet smirked and nudged Sylvie forward. "You won't believe what happened at the 21st District. Sylvie here got mistaken for Detective Halstead's fiancée."
"Really?" Matt Casey raised an eyebrow. "You do look a bit like Upton. How did Halstead take it?"
Sylvie laughed. "He was pretty surprised. I think I caught him off guard."
"Well, that's one way to make an impression. Did you get his number?" Stella Kidd grinned.
"No, Stella! It was just a mix-up. But it was kind of funny," Sylvie said, blushing again.
Joe Cruz chuckled. "Sounds like you made his day a little more interesting. Maybe next time you can tell him you're the better version."
The group laughed, and Sylvie shook her head, smiling.
Later, Sylvie Brett and Violet Mikami walked into the 21st District, the familiar buzz of activity surrounding them. They made their way towards the front desk where Sergeant Trudy Platt was stationed, overseeing the precinct with her usual no-nonsense demeanor.
"Well, well, if it isn't Firehouse 51. What brings you two back here?" Platt asked, looking up as they approached.
"Hey, Sergeant Platt. We just thought we'd drop by and clear up a little mix-up from earlier," Violet said, grinning.
Sylvie smiled. "Yeah, I met Detective Halstead earlier, and he mistook me for his fiancée. We thought it might be fun to come back and say hi properly."
Platt raised an eyebrow, smirking.
"Oh, did he now? That must have been quite the surprise for him. Well, he's upstairs. I'll let him know you're here."
Platt picked up the phone and dialed Jay's extension, her eyes twinkling with amusement.
"Halstead, you've got visitors. And no, it's not Hailey. Come on down," she said into the phone.
She hung up and looked back at Sylvie and Violet. "He'll be down in a minute. You two sure know how to keep things interesting around here."
Sylvie and Violet exchanged amused glances, waiting for Jay to come down.
Jay and Hailey were busy setting up their living room, preparing for their guests. The doorbell rang, and Jay went to answer it. Sylvie and Violet stood at the door, smiling and holding a bottle of wine.
"Hey! Hope we're not too early," Sylvie said.
"Not at all. Come on in," Jay replied, welcoming them inside.
They stepped inside, and Hailey greeted them warmly.
"Hey, welcome! Make yourselves at home."
They all settled into the living room, the atmosphere relaxed and friendly. Jay poured drinks for everyone, and they started chatting, sharing stories and getting to know each other better.
Violet raised her glass. "To new friends and unexpected encounters."
"Cheers to that," Sylvie said, smiling.
As the evening progressed, the conversation flowed easily. Jay and Sylvie found themselves sharing stories and laughing together, their chemistry evident. Hailey, sitting nearby, started to feel a bit left out as she watched them interact.
"And then, the patient tried to convince us he was fine, even though he had a broken leg!" Sylvie said, laughing.
"Sounds like some of the suspects we deal with. They always think they can talk their way out of anything," Jay replied, grinning.
Hailey forced a smile, trying to join in.
"Yeah, we've had our fair share of those. Remember that guy last month, Jay?"
Jay nodded, but his focus remained on Sylvie. "Oh yeah, that was something."
Violet noticed Hailey's discomfort and tried to steer the conversation to include her more.
"So, Hailey, how did you and Jay meet?"
Hailey smiled, grateful for the shift. "We met on the job. It was a pretty intense case, but we worked well together from the start."
"That sounds amazing. It must be great to work with someone you trust so much," Sylvie said, genuinely interested.
"It is. We make a good team," Hailey nodded.
Realizing Hailey's feelings, Jay reached over and took her hand, giving it a reassuring squeeze.
"Yeah, we do," he said, smiling at Hailey.
The atmosphere in the room shifted as Hailey stood up, her expression tense. She looked directly at Jay, her frustration evident.
"Jay, can we talk for a second?" Hailey asked.
Jay looked up, surprised by her tone. "Sure, Hailey. What's up?"
"What's up? You've been flirting with Sylvie all night. Do you even realize how that makes me feel?" Hailey said, crossing her arms.
Sylvie and Violet exchanged uncomfortable glances, sensing the tension.
"Hailey, I didn't mean to—" Sylvie started.
"I know you didn't, Sylvie. But it's not just you. Jay, you should know better," Hailey cut her off.
Jay stood up, trying to calm the situation. "Hailey, it's not like that. We were just talking. You're overreacting."
"Overreacting? You barely acknowledged me all night!" Hailey's voice rose.
The argument escalated, voices rising. Sylvie and Violet stood up, feeling out of place.
"Maybe we should go. This seems like something you two need to sort out," Violet suggested.
"Yeah, I think that's a good idea," Sylvie agreed.
Sylvie and Violet headed towards the door, trying to leave quietly. Jay looked over, feeling torn.
"Sylvie, Violet, I'm sorry about this," Jay said.
"It's okay, Jay. We'll catch up another time," Sylvie replied.
They left, closing the door behind them. Jay turned back to Hailey, who looked hurt and angry.
"Hailey, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to make you feel that way," Jay said.
"I know, Jay. But it still hurt. We need to talk about this," Hailey sighed.
