Mera announced over the loudspeaker, "Let's see. The 62nd person has passed the exam. Another 38, and it'll finally be over."
Shindo was hiding with some of his classmates. "OK, guys. Let's think about the situation. At the beginning of the exam, we focused on attacking UA, splitting them up and putting them in check right off the bat. Now our school's going after them in two groups. But a bunch of other classes took advantage of our work. And we're at the final stage of the test. So everyone's fighting at max levels, and the arena's full of chaos. It's a warzone."
Tatami commented, "Your attack kinda backfired. We didn't take out any of those kids."
Shindo sighed, "I mean, I know I was rushing, but if you really think about it, this is a pretty good place to be in. As long as we don't freak out, we can take advantage of the current state of the exam and the desperate players involved. Everyone is panicking, trying to figure out how many slots are left, no doubt being careless and burning through their stamina. The examinees have tunnel vision, and are focusing on UA, since they have the most intel on them, so we just wait for our moment to strike. We've basically passed already."
Tatami said, "It's about time you stopped pretending to be so nice. Honestly, you're too sneaky."
Shindo stood up, "I'd prefer to be called tactful. Besides, if we swoop in at the 11th hour and make it a good show, it'll prove we have an indomitable spirit. Everyone taking the exam is struggling to live up to their own ideals. I respect that. But unfortunately, I can't go easy on them." His group then attacked an unsuspecting group of examinees.
Back with Bakugo, he countered Shishikura's attack. "AP Shot. Auto-Cannon!" He blasted several blobs that Shishijura sent out. "I had to make a weak version so I didn't kill anyone."
Kaminari said, "You know what, this is why everyone's terrified of you, you're too hardcore!"
Shishikura pulled the blobs back into him, grossing Kaminari out, "So those nasty finger things just float back into him?"
Shishikura then said, "I see now. I'll teach you a lesson by breaking you! This will show you what it means to be dignified and behave like a hero!"
Kaminari asked, "What is up with this disgusting dude?"
Bakugo answered, "He thinks he's better than us. But I'll show him!"
Bakugo charged at Shishikura, but Kaminari shouted, "Hey, wait, don't forget that we're in the middle of a test!"
Bakugo shouted back, "That's exactly why I'll kill this guy!"
"Absurd!" Shishikura shouted as he attacked again. Bakugo blasted several blobs away.
Kaminari sighed as he loaded his weapon on his hand, "Ugh. Let's just get this fight over with. Maybe this'll speed things along." He fired several discs at Shishikura, but he dodged.
He mocked Kaminari, "You should work on your aim."
Kanimari groaned, "Oh, crap."
Shishikura continued, "And your look. Maybe I can make you something more appealing."
Bakugo shouted, "Enough talk. Die!" He sent a blast to Shishikura, but he blocked it.
He then said, "You've left yourself open." A piece of flesh blob hit Bakugo in the back. "You weren't paying attention. I had a piece of flesh sneak beneath us. You saw. Earlier with Kirishima. Once I touch you, you're my plaything."
Bakugo shouted to Kaminari, "Hey, idiot! Fix this!" He threw something that Kaminari caught, then Bakugo was turned into a blob of flesh.
Shishikura chuckled, "Pathetic. You must be remade from scratch."
"No way!" Kaminari shouted.
Shishikura said, "This is a demonstration. The test has an unusually low passing rate. At first this seemed counterintuitive given our current world. With All Might retired, wouldn't it make more sense to flood the streets with heroes? And so, I must assume that their goal is to weed out the riffraff. We can surmise that they're starting to be more selective, in order to bring the profession of hero to a higher level. And I agree with this way of thinking. So I decided to thin the herd myself."
Kaminari asked, "You're ignoring the test because you think you're superior? What are you, a crazy person?"
Shishikura answered, "I'm simply separating the mediocre and extraordinary. By the way, your comrades here still feel pain in this form. Your untamed electricity will torture your friends if you use it."
Kaminari groaned, "Ugh. You've been doing nothing but hurling insults at us this entire time. I'm kinda starting to take it personally, you know."
Shishikura replied, "Then perhaps you are more self-aware than I thought. I'd take time to reflect on your failure." He sent more blobs at Kaminari.
But Kaminari shouted, "How about you reflect on this!" He then throw a flash grenade that Bakugo threw at him, causing Shishikura to jump away.
Kaminari then said, "Those ugly-ass gauntlets of his aren't just some kind of fashion statement. He can use that gear along with his nitro sweat to create simple grenades."
Shishikura realized, "That's it! He tossed it to you."
Kaminari said, "By the way, big shot. You've stumbled into a killer spot." The discs he threw out earlier could help manipulate his electricity to a fixed target. Power Loader and Hatsume developed them along with the shooter. He then shot his electricity towards the discs, shocking Shishikura along with them.
Kaminari then said, "Listen up. Bakugo might seem like a total jerk on the surface, but he's actually trying really hard to be a pro. He threw that grenade to me while being attacked. That was a result of his calm judgment and planning. And Kirishima is such a good dude that he rushed into enemy territory for his friends, even though it was an incredibly stupid thing to do. You only know bits and pieces of information about these guys. So don't insult my class!"
Meanwhile, Bakugo and Kirishima were breaking free of their meatball prison and slowly returning to their normal selves.
Shishikura said, "I'll teach you to be more aware of your place! You degenerate!"
He charged at Kaminari, but Bakugo and Kirishima, both back to normal, punched Shishikura away.
Kirishima said, "The more damage he takes, the more people get released."
Bakugo added, "No wonder he was only using long distance attacks."
Kirishima turned to Kamimari, "Thanks for the save."
But Bakugo shouted, "You idiot! What took you so long?"
Kaminari cried, "Why are you so mean? No one'e ever gonna like you if you act that way! Whoa, look behind you! Those other fleshballs are waking up."
Bakugo grinned, "We've got targets."
Over in the anteroom, students who passed watched everything happening in the arena. Mera announced, "Currently 70 people have passed. Thirty more and we'll be done."
Shoto was sitting on a bench alone, thinking about where his classmates were. Then he saw Momo, Jiro, Tsuyu, and Shoji walking over to him.
He stood up as Momo said, "Good, I'm glad to see you passed, Todoroki."
Tsuyu added, "I didn't doubt you."
Jiro asked, "Have you seen the others?"
Shoto shook his head, "No. So far, we're the only ones here. I just arrived. I'm surprised Fenton isn't here. I was sure that he would pass quickly."
Momo nodded, looking around, "I felt the same. Maybe he got caught up trying to help out other classmates."
Shoji said, "We can't count them out."
Shoto then said, "I thought Midoriya and Fenton had everyone working together."
Momo replied, "That was the plan, but someone from Ketsubutsu Academy split us up with his Quirk. Danny tried to save as many of us as possible, but couldn't. I think he used his Ghostly Wail in retaliation."
Jiro said, "Just 30 spots left."
Tsuyu added, "I hope everyone in our class passes."
Out in the arena, Phantom and Izuku were running/flying away from several examinees. Sero was able to catch up to them, "Fenton, fly me high. Midoriya, create a distraction."
Izuku nodded and used his Ultimate Move to distract the examinees while Phantom grabbed Sero and flew into the air.
Sero then shouted, "You're up, Uraraka!"
Ochaco nodded, then shouted, "Release!" Sero had tapped several boulders and Ochaco used her Quirk to float the boulders. She released the boulders and several examinees got trapped by the tape. A couple didn't, but Ochaco had some tape from Sero and caught the survivors while Phantom shot ecto goo at a couple others.
Phantom landed on the ground and put Sero down, as Sero explained, "I gave some tape to Uraraka and had her set some snares for us."
Phantom smirked, "Quick thinking. Good job."
Izuku said, "Oh, whoa. I said get as many as possible, but this is nuts."
Ochaco walked up to them, "In order to make sure no one was in a spot where they'd get crushed by the debris. I hid and figured out the perfect timing."
Mera announced over the loudspeakers, "Looks like 76 people have passed at this point. We'll be at capacity soon."
Sero said, "We don't have much time, and I'm sure others will come for us soon."
Phantom smirked with his eyes glowing green, "Then let's take these guys out. I think I've waited long enough."
Izuku walked up to one student who complained, "You guys are first years, right? C'mon, can't you give us a break? We have to earn our provisional hero licenses this time around."
Izuku tightened the grip he had on the ball and put it on the other student's target, "I'm sorry, but so do I."
Mera then announced, "That's 80 people. Everyone's moving at an exhaustive pace now."
The four who just passed saw that their targets light up blue, signaling that they passed.
Sero commented, "Wow, that was fast."
Then they heard a voice come from their targets, "Students who have passed the exam should congregate in the anteroom. Chop, chop."
Phantom said, "Well, let's head to this anteroom, guys."
Up in the judges box, Mera sighed, "Hope these kids don't take their youthful energy for granted. The battle royale format is nothing new for the exam, but this time, the patterns are a bit unusual. UA is always heavily targeted from the get go, but so far, all of those students are still on the board."
Down in the arena, Yuga was hiding behind some rocks. Tenya was running and saw him. He ran up to Yuga, "Aoyama!"
Yuga greeted him, "Bonjour. Are you out here alone? What a coincidence. So am I."
Tenya said, "I've been trying to find as many of our classmates as I can. There's a handful of us nearby that Fenton was able to save, but I came to look for stragglers."
Yuga gasped, "So you left the group just to come help the others?" He then laughed, "You're so funny. How do you even think you'll find people out here? And what are you gonna do if everyone left behind passes without you?"
Tenya replied, "First of all, I found you, didn't I? And if everyone else passes the test, that's a wonderful thing. I'm our co class representative. It's my duty to lead the others. I want to serve our peers to the best of my abilities. That's what my brother would do. It's through my actions that I'll realize my ultimate dream. Obviously, I do want to get my provisional hero license. And the test will be coming to an end soon. So I'll continue my search while trying to pass. Please, work with me."
Meanwhile, Mera announced that three more people passed. Bakugo, Kirishima, and Kaminari walked toward the anteroom. Kirishima commented, "Whoa, this entire arena's going insane."
Kaminari spotted Phantom, Izuku, Ochaco, and Sero ahead, "Hey look, some of our classmates. Aw, yeah. Class A represents!"
Ochaco heard Kaminari, turned around, and said, "Oh, you know it! Our class is awesome! Woo-hoo!"
Sero, Ochaco, Kirishima, and Kaminari started cheering with each other, Izuku and Phantom staring at them while chuckling.
Bakugo passed by them, "So you both passed, too. Fenton, I'm not surprised you did. But how'd you manage that, Deku? Guess I shouldn't be surprised with that Quirk you got."
Izuku was shocked at what Bakugo said while Phantom was intrigued.
Bakugo continued as he passed by, "It looks like you've made that borrowed power your own."
Izuku muttered, "Kacchan…"
Phantom whispered, "He must have finally figured it out. I remember that Izuku told him months ago that he inherited his Quirk. Now Bakugo believes him. But how much, though?"
They all gathered in the anteroom and Momo spotted them, "Oh, hey! What a relief. I was starting to get worried."
Phantom smiled, "You don't need to worry about any of us. We're all tough."
Momo said, "I'm surprised you didn't get out earlier."
Phantom shrugged, "I didn't want to be a show off."
Kaminari walked up, "What's up? When did you guys pass? You've been here long?"
Shoji answered, "We just finished as well. Todoroki beat us."
Jiro added, "Fenton, I was shocked you were here earlier. Same goes for Bakugo. But I get it now. You were with him."
Kaminari groaned, "Oh, come on! Why is everyone dragging on me today?"
Tsuyu handed Ochaco a drink, "The key to take off your targets is in the back. They asked us to return them to the shelf now that we're done."
Ochaco smiled, "Oh, cool. Thank you, Tsu. I'll do that."
Shoto looked around, "Looks like only 12 from our class have passed."
Izuku figured out, "So eight more to go."
Momo added, "And the announcement said that there's only 17 spots left."
Phantom said, "They'll pass. I believe in them."
Out in the arena, Yuga jumps out of his hiding spot. One examinee jumps towards him to get him out.
But Tenya suddenly pulled on Yuga's cape and got him out of the way. Yuga commented, "There are two of us, Iida. This has turned into a war. It's going to be tres hard for both of us to survive it! Just leave me here."
Tenya replied, "What are you talking about? Keep fighting! Class 1-A does not give up."
Yuga said, "Non, that's not what I'm doing."
Tenya saw a projectile coming toward them, so he grabbed Yuga's cape and sped away, "We're finished if we stay put."
The rest of Class 1-A that had yet to pass were trying to figure out what to do with so little time left.
Mera announced over the loudspeakers, "Wow. Eight people just passed at the same time. That leaves only nine open spots."
Up in the stands, Ms. Joke recognized those eight people, "Ha! Those eight were all from my class! See 'em? They're headed to the anteroom. Great job there, kiddos!"
In the anteroom, Momo realized, "So our class still has eight people who haven't passed."
Jiro added, "I hate to say it, but it's not sounding good for us."
Phantom turned to her, "Just have some faith in our classmates. I'm sure they'll pass. Just watch."
Out on the field, Tenya was running, dragging Yuga with him. But then Yuga suddenly got out of Tenya's grasp and leaned backward to shoot out his naval laser.
Tenya asked, "Are you out of your mind? Seriously, what are you doing?"
Yuga answered, "I'm standing out."
Tenya said, "Yes. Yes, you are. That's exactly the problem."
Yuga countered, "If you try to protect me, you'll fail the test. I've already got two of my targets hit, and they'll be swarming me soon. You'll have a much better chance without me. Please, let me do this for you. While I've got the spotlight, you can sneak up on the people who come after me. With your speed, you should be able to hit their targets."
Tenya asked, "Where is this even coming from?"
Yuga answered, "Something you said earlier inspired me. Your ultimate dream. I always wanted to be an equal to the amazing people at our school. Our enemies will be here soon. Get ready! You have to run!"
Tenya looked around and saw multiple examinees running towards them.
But suddenly hundreds of birds flew towards them and attacked. Koda was behind it, "Thank you, birds. Please continue to swarm this area!"
Tokoyami was below him, "Black Abyss! Covert Black-Ops Arms!" Using Dark Shadow, he swatted multiple examinees away.
Oijiro jumped in and tagged two examinees. "Iida, what're you doing? Don't just stand there!"
Tenya shouted, "You came for us!"
Toru jumped into the air, "Warp Refraction: Say Cheese!" She blinded all the examinees and used that distraction to tag two people out.
Mera announced, "That's two more in. Seven spots left."
Yuga was confused, "Wait, why would they…"
Mina jumped near him while using her acid to melt balls coming at her. "Everyone was going nuts and getting desperate in the final minutes. I couldn't see anything! I couldn't tell who was friend or foe. But then we spotted your bellybutton laser, and we knew we'd be able to meet up with our classmates again! Come on! Let's do this!" She quickly tagged two people, earning her a spot."
"Six spaces remain!" Mera announced.
"Sorry," Tokoyami said to two examinees that Dark Shadow held, tagging them out.
"Five left!" Mera announced. "The pressure's on now. In the final minutes, UA came together and pulled off some absolutely insane combos."
Koda walked up and tagged out two unconscious examinees. "I did it."
"Four spots!" Mera announced.
Sato had lifted a giant boulder to knock two examinees down, and then tagged them out. "I'm in!"
"Now three!" Mera announced.
Elsewhere, Camie tagged out two people, leaving only two spots left.
Tenya pulled Yuga to his feet and they both started to run. Tenya said, "Aoyama, I don't know who you wanna be equal with, because I don't know what you're measuring yourself against. But this was your doing! Thank you!" They tagged two examinees each, making them the last two to pass.
Yuga muttered, "Well, I guess this means my twinkling won't have to stop after all."
Tenya replied, "No. Keep twinkling. Whatever that means."
The alarms blared and Mera announced, "The last students passed! Every spot is now filled! One hundred students will advance. The end is finally here! Wah-hoo!"
In the anteroom, Kirishima and Kaminari cheered loudly for their classmates.
Ochaco said, "Our entire class passed the test, I'm so excited!"
Sero added, "Aw, man! I'm so proud of us!"
Phantom smirked, "Told you they would do it."
Izuku sighed, "We really pulled it off, you guys."
Shoji nodded, "Yeah."
Mera announced, "Unfortunately, those of you who failed will now have to withdraw from the licensing exam. Please leave the test area immediately."
Up in the stands, Aizawa grumbled, "They just had to keep me on the edge of my seat, huh? We're training so hard when we get back."
Ms. Joke chuckled, "Oh, come on. You're happy, aren't you?"
"Furious," Aizawa replied.
Ms. Joke asked, "Then what's that sparkle in your eye?"
"Annoyance," Aizawa answered. Ms. Joke just laughed.
Later, in the anteroom, Inasa shouted, "Huh!? What do you mean Shishikura didn't pass the test?"
Another student from his school, Mora, replied, "Tone it down. It's because he went ahead of us and fought alone, like he didn't need help. Like you two." He turned to Camie. "Yoarashi at least has the excuse that he's a first year. But not you, Camie!"
Camie sighed, "Yeah, yeah."
Mera announced, "All right. For the 100 of you who passed the first test, please turn your attention to the screen."
Izuku noticed, "Huh. It's the test arena."
"What's gonna happen next?" Ochaco asked.
Suddenly everyone saw several explosions happen all over the arena. Phantom muttered, "Wow, they're really turning things up for part two."
Izuku asked, "Wait, does that mean…."
But Mera's announcement interrupted him, "There's only one more round for the exam. Your goal is simple: undertake rescue exercises and save the bystanders who are trapped in these disaster sites."
Izuku muttered, "A rescue mission."
Phantom smirked, "Excellent. Let's do this."
