The drive from home to the airport went smoothly. In the car, there were food and drinks, and a speaker with a microphone, because during road trips, the Sanbans would each take turns singing into the mic, before singing together, sometimes they sang in Japanese.
It was 6:38 pm, and the Sanbans arrived at the airport. After checking in and the security test, the family sat by their gate and waited for their flight. Kuki checked her phone for messages from her friends in their chat group, Kiddie Chat Bubble. There were no messages from her friends.
When it was time to leave for Tokyo, she simply typed, "I'm leaving for Tokyo now. I'll send you messages, pictures, and videos of my time there. I'll see you when I get back. Bye…" Then, she sent it to the chat and put her phone on airplane mode.
In the plane, Kani and Genki sat on the right side, and Kuki and Mushi sat on the left side. The flight took 17 hours, and when they arrived in Tokyo at long last, it was late outside, because the times in Cleveland and Tokyo were different.
They were at the car rental place after transferring their USD into yen. The Sanban parents still had some yen left over when they lived in Japan. After getting the rental car, the Sanbans sang Puffy AmiYumi from the airport to a nearby hotel for the night. Now it was 1:32 am when arriving at the hotel.
Before going to bed, Genki said, "Now girls, you can shower in the morning if you want. Dad and I already showered back at home." The sisters agreed to shower in the morning and everyone got ready for bed. "Oyasuminasai. Good night," said Kani. The sisters said the same thing back.
A brief amount of time after going to bed, Kuki's phone suddenly made a notification sound, waking her up. She pulled the cover over her head just to check her phone. There was a text from Abigail Lincoln, aka Number 5. Abby, the Japanese girl thought. She looked at the message. It said, "Hey girl, I hope you're doin' okay. I miss ya." Too tired to text her back, Kuki went back to sleep.
