"...and there is already a guest in my hotel. Even if Angel is still out at this time, he will definitely be really happy to meet you and Vaggie - ooooh she will be thrilled, I hope...I think...Vaggie is my girlfriend. I wonder why she wasn't in the little photo?" - Charlie had already walked a few meters and since little Melora remained silent and just snuggled closer to the Princess of Hell, Charlie took over the talking.
And of course she told the toddler everything about the Hazbin Hotel, her dream of rehabilitating the lost souls of Hell and being allowed to open the way to heaven for them and about the residents and employees of the hotel. Well...the only resident so far was Angel Dust.
The process with both the famous 'star' and the open doors for other guests was rather slow. But that was fine, Charlie was absolutely confident that her plan would work. And with the help of her friends and her wonderful Vaggie, everything would turn out well in the end.
And of course Charlie convinced herself that Vaggie would be just as excited about the new addition to the family as the Princess of Hell herself. But that raises the question of why only mother and daughter were visible on the photo attached to the letter. But maybe Vaggie had taken the picture in the alternate universe?
Or had their paths not crossed there? So many questions and no clear answers.
"You'll definitely like it in the hotel, Ley!"- Charlie added, tightening her grip on the child and recognizing the facade of the Hazbin Hotel from afar.
With a lot of confidence, Charlie walked towards the entrance doors of the hotel and felt an inner calm come over her when she saw the entrance area in front of her. The last extermination had destroyed a lot.
The angels had wiped out many lives, caused so much chaos...but their hotel was still standing. The entrance hall had hardly changed. It was...like coming home. A home that Charlie had to put together.
After her mother Lilith had stopped speaking to her so many years ago and contact with her father had become rather sporadic, it was up to her to build this dream. And Charlie was infinitely grateful for the support of her friends.
The entrance area, however, was surprisingly empty. Vaggie was probably still out on the streets, just like Charlie, looking for lost souls or helping where help was needed.
Angel was in the studios with Valentino and Alastor...okay Charlie never knew exactly where the radio demon was - but her supporting assistant wouldn't miss a new addition to the hotel, would he?
"You found a child?" - Husk had watched from the bar , as Charlie searched the entrance area for a familiar face.
And with a broad smile, Charlie walked up to the bartender and nodded in agreement.
"Yes, that's a really funny story, Husk. Tell me, has Vaggie showed up already? I really... really need to talk to her urgently", Charlie replied curiously and Husk just denied the answer to her question , before taking a quick look at the girl in Charlie's arms.
"Where did you find the Kid? Looks kind of... like you", Husk stated dryly and Charlie launched into a long explanation of what had happened in the alley and had just reached the point in her story , where the letter and the little photo came into play , when Melora started to get restless in the Princess of Hell's arms, kicking her feet and repeatedly talking about wanting to get on the floor.
"... and then when I opened the letter... Ley? Don't you want to hear me, tell Husk the story of our really cool meeting?", Charlie tried to change the toddler's mind with a cheerful tone of voice, because it was about her story.
What could be more exciting? The girl paused for a moment in her demanding requests and looked from Charlie to Husk before shaking her head and pointing with one hand in the direction , of the lounge with the armchairs and the sofa.
"KeeKee!" - the Toddler said whiningly and Charlie was touched , that her daughter obviously knew the cat. But KeeKee was very...willful when it came to the people around her that she liked.
"You know, Ley, KeeKee might not know you and might not react the way you hope...be careful, OK? Then I'll finish telling Husk the story and then come to you? Don't just run away?" - Charlie said in a drawn-out voice and put the toddler down on the floor. Ley didn't waste a moment waiting or turning around to the adults again, she walked towards the sofa, where KeeKee was curled up and taking a nap.
When Charlie was finally able to finish , telling Husk the story she had just experienced, Husk dropped the glass he was polishing in shock and disbelief and swore quietly.
Charlie couldn't blame him. It was a really strange situation.
"...that explains why she looks so much like you. And there was no other information in the letter?", said Husk after he had recovered from the shock.
"No. I only found out her name from a hair clip ,that was almost loose. Do you know what that means, Husk? We have our first hotel baby!"- said Charlie happily, beaming from ear to ear.
Husk, on the other hand, was the rational part of this conversation and couldn't yet share the princess's joy. Or simply didn't show it.
"Do you know anything about caring for and parenting small children? The girl doesn't seem to be a baby anymore", Husk addressed the topic, which would have to be addressed sooner or later when the child was brought in.
"Well...not really"
"And Vaggie?"
"Um...no idea if Vaggie knows that, but I wanted to talk to her about it when she comes back!" - said Charlie, not seeing any problems with the lack of experience in dealing with a small child.
"What did you want to talk to me about?" - Vaggie had appeared almost silently in the entrance hall, as she often did, and had positioned herself directly behind Charlie.
Still holding her arrow as a weapon in her right hand.
"Oh Vaggie, I have the best news of the entire week for you! We've become parents! And...you don't happen to have any experience in dealing with Toddlers do you?"
Vaggie, like Husk, dropped her lock in shock and disbelief, and it landed on the floor with a clatter.
And so Charlie repeated everything she had just told Husk with a long breath.
But the skepticism and distrust only deepened in Vaggie's eyes, and while Charlie looked as if she was about to burst with the joy of being a new mother, Vaggie kept the possibility of a trap or trick in the back of her mind.
You never knew for sure, and caution was almost as helpful as a good weapon, especially in the first few days after the extermination.
