The sun had set by the time they reached the bridge. Cars were left out abandoned in the hundreds blocking any further access to the bridge unless they go on foot. Jill swears in annoyance grabbing the bag and opening the door to begin the long walk.

Rhodie jumps out after her as the two of them begin to trek through the cars. Having to stop now and then to shut open doors to allow them to pass. Ahead of them a crowd of hundreds if not thousands of people have gathered to escape the city.

Picking up the smell of blood something tells him they should get out of here soon. Everything is telling him to run. To grab Jill and run. He tries to get Jill's attention by whimpering and brushing his nose against her leg. However, Jill misreads what he's doing instead stroking his head in comfort as she shoves her way through the crowd saying she's police.

He follows in her steps and snarls at anyone who tries to push back at her. Clearly, not everyone is happy with her making her way to the front of the crowd. One man tried to grab her and he reacted first leaping forward and ramming his body into the man knocking him to the ground then standing on his chest and growling at him until Jill calls out his name. With one last baring of his teeth, he steps off the man and catches up to Jill.

When they nearly reach the front Jill stops in front of him waving in the air and calling out to Peyton. Followed by a loud whistle. Getting through the last few people with the help of Peyton they make it to the large walls surrounding the city.

Jumping up to Peyton's chest he demands pets from the man who laughs and gives him all the affection he wants. But sadly, Peyton doesn't have any treats on him at the moment. Normally when he follows Jill to work Peyton and various others at the station would give him treats.

Jill and Peyton begin to talk about something when he smells it. Something rotten. The same stench that has surrounded the city today. His gaze finds a man struggling to breathe as he drops to the ground. People start yelling and guns are drawn. Jill and Peyton head over to investigate. The rotting smell growing stronger and stronger with each step. He doesn't like that smell. It's not right.

He barks and snarls at the man on the ground gaining Jill's attention just in time for the man's eyes to snap open as he tries to claw at Peyton's leg. Luckily Jill saw it first and shoved Peyton out of the man's reach as he tried to bite into him. Bloodshot eyes glazed over milky turn to Jill who quickly puts a bullet in the man's head.

More screams and shouts echo around him as Jill smiles down at him praising his efforts as Peyton leads them away from the dead man. He hears something above him. The people on top of the gate are agitated. This is followed by a shrieking of metal as the giant gates begin to shut.

People panic and try to shove their way through but it's no use. The gates are shut. Even when they hit against it and plead out the doors are locked.

"What are you doing here Peyton," Jill asks. "You should have got out while you had the chance." Like they were trying to do.

Peyton waves her off. "These are our people. We can't just leave them." He argues back. Earning a goodhearted eye-roll from Jill.

A man with a strange accent but kind of familiar then begins talking over the microphone. "This is a biohazard quarantine area due to the risk of infection you cannot be allowed the risk to leave the city. All appropriate measures are being taken. The situation is under control. Go. Please return to your homes."

Rhodie tilts his head at the man. Go home. Maybe Alice will be there. He wants to go home but Jill said it's not safe there anymore. He trusts Jill more then this man. Besides the smell is back there too. He looks to Jill who is glaring at the man. Ok, bad man. He bares his teeth towards him as well.

People are still trying to push their way through the gates. Which is silly because they are shut. And he doesn't think they will be opened again. The weird talking man clearly thinks the same as he lifts his gun into the air and fires. "You have five seconds to turn around and return to the city." He declares turning away from everyone as the whole bridge turns silent.

"Use of live ammunition has been authorised." A deep man calls out. "Five." Oh, that's not good.

Men on the bridge all aim their guns in unison. "They won't fire." He hears Jill mutter to Peyton and another woman. The newcomer is holding a camera recording everything. Alice recorded him once. They were competing in an agility contest, and she recorded it to show Jill who missed the competition due to work.

He won third place. This very energetic springer spaniel came first. But he had fun. And he also got to play with lots of dogs and Alice got him many treats for a job well done. Even Jill treated him to a new toy.

"Four." He's not sure Jill is right.

"Three." A few people start to back away, but most seem to be holding their ground.

Peyton doesn't seem to agree with Jill's assessment. "Get them back." He yells out to the other officer who try to push people away.

"Two." Jill steps back yelling at people to run. Pushing people back when they refuse to move.

"One." Machine guns fire into the crowd near the bridge that refused to move. The bullets each sounded like an explosion going off in his ears. It hurts. More screams fill the air as does the scent of blood. Jill calls his name and he, Jill, Peyton and the other woman all take off running away from the bad men and gunfire.
