CHAPTER 3: SELENE'S STORY

While Amy and Cream were in the kitchen making tea, Selene was getting acquainted with the boys. She was sitting comfortably on an armchair while the boys were sitting on the couch next to her.

"We should probably introduce ourselves," Sonic grinned. "I'm Sonic. Sonic the Hedgehog."

"I'm Miles Prower, but everybody calls me Tails," Tails said next.

"I can see why," Selene giggled, causing the fox to blush and wrap his namesakes around himself. Aww, how cute!

"And of course, the guy that yelled at you is Knuckles," Sonic elbowed the echidna playfully.

"Yeah, yeah, sorry about that," Knuckles pouted with crossed arms.

The merhog waved her hands at him. "No, no, you don't need to apologize! I should've handled my reaction better." She looked down in shame. "After all, you found me before Eggman did, and the first thing I did was attack you..."

Sonic had a look of understanding on his face. "We get it. This place is new to you, so of course you had to defend yourself. Plus, it's not often we meet someone known from mythology."

"And those powers!" Tails couldn't help but gush. "Are you both hydrokinetic and cryokinetic?"

"Not exactly," Selene said sheepishly. "See, what I did was waterbending."

The boys tilted their heads in confusion. "Waterbending?"

"I basically control anything that has water in it, whether it's a solid, a liquid, or a gas. And as you saw, I can turn a liquid into a solid and vice versa."

"Whoa…" Tails had stars in his eyes while Sonic and Knuckles looked impressed.

At that moment, Amy came in with a cup of tea, with Cream and Cheese following her.

"Here you go, Selene," the pink hedgehog handed the maroon merhog her tea before she and Cream sat across from the boys. "Not sure what you normally have, but I promise you, it's delicious."

Selene blew on it before taking a sip. She smiled at Amy. "It's wonderful! Thank you very much."

"You're welcome. And I'm Amy Rose in case you're wondering."

"I'm Cream," the rabbit chirped. "And this is my Chao Cheese."

"Chao chao!" Cheese flew to Selene and landed on her lap, looking up with a cute smile.

"Aww, I thought you looked familiar," Selene cooed and hugged Cheese after placing her tea on the table.

"You have Chao where you're from?" Cream asked excitedly.

"Mm-hm! Though instead of feet, they have fish tails. They're called Sea Chao because of it."

Both Amy and Cream squealed. "How cute!"

Tails cleared his throat, causing the girls to look at him. "Sorry to interrupt, but we're getting off topic here." He looked at the merhog. "So, Selene, could you please tell us why Eggman wanted to capture you?"

"I suppose I should start from the beginning," Selene took a deep breath and began her story. "I come from a world that used to be a part of your own thousands of years ago called Mermobius. Back then, both Mermobians and merpeople lived together in peace and harmony with your kind. We used to be under the protection of the Ocean Guardian called the Leviathan, along with the Moon Keeper."

"What do you mean 'used to be'?" Sonic asked.

"Have any of you heard of Chaos, the God of Destruction?"

Sonic and his friends had looks of disbelief on their faces. There was a connection between Chaos and Selene's home? If that's the case, then the Chaos Emeralds and the Master Emerald must be connected, too!

Knuckles was the first to snap out of it. "Heard of Chaos? We fought it long ago!"

Selene gasped. "Wait, really?!"

"Yeah!" Sonic nodded. He wanted to tell her about it but knew that now wasn't the best time. "B-But that's a story for another day."

"Please continue, Selene," Tails said.

The merhog nodded. "Right. About three thousand years ago, the Leviathan and Moon Keeper Khonsu were gravely injured and washed up on land. There, they met Chaos and an echidna princess named Tikal, who nursed them back to health. Since then, Khonsu and Tikal became best friends, and Chaos and the Leviathan formed a deep connection. But one day, the Leviathan became very angry, and nothing can calm it. Sensing something's wrong up above, Khonsu swam to find Tikal and Chaos, only to discover that Chaos had turned into a terrifying beast.

"Horrified, he found Tikal, and learned that she's planning to seal Chaos in an ancient relic called the Master Emerald. The plan worked, but she was sealed, too, which broke Khonsu's heart. Even so, the Leviathan was still full of rage. With a heavy heart, Khonsu had to seal his friend away using the power of the moon and the Chaos Emeralds. As an extra precaution, he and his people built the Moon Door, separating our worlds so that the Leviathan doesn't destroy your home should it somehow break free from its containment…"

"Now we know why we haven't heard from Eggman in months…" Sonic muttered.

"He must have learned about Mermobius and wants to unseal the Leviathan," Tails shivered. "After hearing the story, it sounds dangerous and shouldn't be tampered with…"

"But what does it have to do with you, Selene?" Amy asked, looking concerned.

"Well…" Selene sighed. "I'm the current Moon Keeper." She pointed to the crescent moon on her forehead. "This mark symbolizes my duty to not only protect my home and to make sure the Leviathan's rage is kept at bay, but I possess the power of the moon. That power is one of the keys to unsealing the Leviathan."

"And let me guess, the Chaos Emeralds are the second key?" Knuckles asked.

"That's right."

Figures… Why is it always the Chaos Emeralds? The boys thought with a roll of their eyes while the pink hedgehog and cream rabbit looked a bit annoyed, thinking the same thing.

Putting that thought aside, Sonic gave Selene a smirk. "Well, now that we know what Eggman's up to, we'll help you stop him from unleashing the Leviathan!"

"Really?" Selene asked with a hopeful look.

"Absolutely! All we gotta do is keep you safe and find the Emeralds before Eggman does, and we're good to go!"

"The sooner the better!" Tails said in agreement. He looked at Selene. "About the Moon Door. Aside from separating our worlds, is there anything else about it that we should know?"

"The only thing about it is that it only opens on nights when the moon is full," Selene answered.

"That's a month away!" Cream exclaimed with a worried look. "Is that enough time to find the Emeralds?"

Even Amy looked worried. "Yeah, they could be anywhere."

"We'll figure it out," Sonic assured them. "We always do."

Knuckles gave the blue hedgehog an annoyed look. "Really? Then what do we do about Selene?" He pointed to the merhog's tail. "She can't walk! She'll be an easy target for Eggman!"

Selene blinked, but she crossed her arms in thought knowing that Knuckles was right. I wonder…

"Are you okay, Selene?" Tails asked.

"Oh, I was just remembering a technique my people would use long ago," Selene answered, looking a little unsure. "But because we didn't interact with Mobius for three thousand years, I'm not sure if that ability still works or even exists anymore…"

"What ability is that?" Knuckles asked.

Selene waved her light blue tail at them. "My people can turn our tails into feet and walk on land."

Sonic pumped his fist at that. "Perfect! Give it a try!"

"Really? B-But I'm not even sure how to do it."

"Maybe you just need to think of legs?"

"W-Well—"

"HOLD IT!"

Everyone jumped and looked at Amy, who held her hands up in a timeout gesture. She hurried to a closet to find a blanket and hurried back to wrap Selene in it.

"If you're doing this, you need to make sure you're covered, just in case," the pink hedgehog explained.

Selene gave her a confused look, not understanding at first. But then she widened her eyes and blushed. Even Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Cheese blushed, understanding what Amy meant. They quickly got up from their seats, walked a few spaces, and turned around to give the merhog some privacy. Cream did the same thing, even making sure the boys didn't turn around.

Looking pleased, Amy gave the merhog a smile. "Whenever you're ready." She then went to her friends to give Selene some space.

Selene smiled before closing her eyes and took a deep breath to concentrate. Okay, Selene… Focus.

Taking Sonic's advice, she imagined herself as a Mobian hedgehog with legs instead of a tail. Suddenly, her body started to glow white, and she could feel herself changing very quickly. Sensing that she was done, the merhog slowly opened her eyes and peaked under the blanket. She gasped and quickly took the blanket off to see that she's now wearing a light blue dress with blue stripes at the hemline that reached above her knees, a blue tie front cardigan with the sleeves reaching to her elbows, white knee-high socks, and blue Mary Jane shoes. She looked at her hands to see that she's now wearing white gloves with her coral pink beaded bracelets still intact. Looking at her legs, she lifted one up and moved her foot, causing her to smile and giggle happily.

Hearing her giggle, Amy turned around, and clasped her hands in excitement. "Oh my gosh, you look so pretty!"

The others turned around, too, and were amazed at the transformation.

Now looking determined, Selene slowly began to stand up, but she was a little wobbly. Even so, she slowly began to walk.

"Do you need any help?" Cream asked worriedly.

"I-I think I'm okay," Selene assured the rabbit despite walking clumsily and trying to maintain her balance. "I've read books about how you move. So, with a bit of practice, I should be fine—WHOA!" She took a misstep and was about to fall backwards, causing everyone to gasp. But Sonic dashed in and caught her in a dip with one arm before she could hurt herself.

The merhog blinked and looked at Sonic in shock. "H-How did you…?"

"Why do you think I'm called Sonic?" Sonic winked.

Selene couldn't help but blush at that. She mentally shook that off and gave the blue hedgehog a thankful look before he helped her back up. But she almost lost her balance again and gripped his arm, giving him an embarrassed look; Sonic just chuckled at that.

Everyone jumped at a loud beeping noise, but Tails quickly ran to another room and everyone else followed, with Sonic and Cream helping Selene to catch up. The merhog was looking around in amazement when she saw that the room was full of gadgets, machines, and what appeared to be a red biplane. Tails was typing away on his computer and pulled up footage of an octopus robot attacking Station Square along the coastline.

"It's Eggman!" He exclaimed. "He's attacking the city!"

"No doubt trying to find Selene," Knuckles deduced, causing the merhog to look worried.

"Okay," Sonic smirked. "Who's up for a little reunion?"

No words were said after that. Tails flipped a switch, and the hangar door began to open. He flew to the plane cockpit and started the engine. Selene had a look of disbelief when she saw the fox fly, but she saw Amy hop in the seat behind him and Knuckles and Sonic jumped on the top wing.

Sonic turned to Cream. "Cream, stay here and look after Selene."

Cream gave the blue hedgehog a salute. "Yes, Mr. Sonic!"

"Hang on tight, guys!" Tails shouted.

The plane started to move at a fast pace. When it got to the end of the ramp, it took off and flew in the direction of Station Square. Selene looked on in awe, but then she lowered her ears in worry.

Sensing this, Cream took the merhog's hand while Cheese flew into her free arm. "Come on, Miss Selene. Cheese and I can help you practice moving your legs some more."

Selene looked at Cream and smiled a little. "Sure."

She allowed the rabbit to guide her back to the living room while cradling the Chao. But she still couldn't help but worry about her new friends and took one last look out the hangar door before leaving.

Didn't expect this chapter to be long (it's about six pages lol). Not sure when I'll have the next one up, or if it'll be as long as this one, but, like I said, it's random.

I've always like Sonic Adventure, so I wanted to add more lore into it, 'cause I can XD. Khonsu is the Egyptian god of the moon, and it sounded really cool. So I used that name for the new OC that got introduced. Not sure if I'm going to put any bio on my profile since he's a minor character, but we'll see.
