Thunder Hero Baraquiel 31
Last time
"Wanna be my apprentice and sidekick?" Barquiel blurted.
Denki looked at Baraquiel like he'd been tasered! He slumped in the chair "What does that mean? Apprentice and sidekick? I mean I get the Sidekick thing but I'm not even a third-year, hell, I don't even have any clue on how to be heroic with my quirk. Plus…why would you want me? I'm just a disappointment, I wasn't even trying to get into UA; I didn't think I'd make it in but my parents made me."
Baraquiel looked at the student across from him and he pulled his mask off "Denki-kun, look at me."
Denji looked at him "You're not a disappointment, yes, it was unfair for your parents to pressure you into applying for this High School; I disagree with that. It's a cultural thing, something…despite being here just shy of a decade, I still don't understand. However, as a father, I understand that your parents want the best for you. What were your parent's quirks?"
Denki paused for a moment "My dad generates static electricity to the point where he can act as a heart correction machine thing. My mom has reflexes that make most Olympians seem slow. Boy were they surprised when I got this quirk."
Harry nodded and placed his hand on the teen's shoulder "I get it. My dad had a full-blown lighting/electricity quirk and my mom had an ionisation quirk, I got the full whammy; full side of my dads' family quirk and my mom's. They both died before they could even train me to use it, I honed my quirk by the seat of very singed trousers. Our Teachers were so awful in training us in our quirks I ended up training my senpai's up to two years my senior and my kohai's two years my junior. I even led them and fully trained heroes into a civil war. So believe me when I say, I have experience and want to do it but couldn't bring myself to ask you."
"Is this something to do with the fact of, if you do…train me, you're not sure I'm going to be a stable hero or something? I've not been one for languages but there was one thing that you said that has been in my mind 'Heroes play for keeps'."
Harry nodded "And?"
"I was in the mountain area with Jiro and Yaoyorozu…I'd short-circuited myself trying to protect them. I'd do it again if I could."
Harry nodded "Denki Kaminari…do you want to be my apprentice and sidekick?"
Denki nodded "I do."
Harry nodded "Under this apprenticeship and sidekick, do you swear to obey my instructions?"
"I will, sensei."
"Do you swear to confront me if you feel unsafe at all?"
"I will, sensei?"
Harry smirked "Oh and something you need to know, you'll be working with me when you get your work study and work experience week."
Denki stared at him "Seriously!"
Harry nodded "Seriously, you're my first sidekick. Since you're on an apprenticeship, I'll set you up with an allowance. It does come with a few strings."
Denki nodded "Which are?"
"You do your best, you have any problems you come to me. I can't help make you into a hero if I don't know you're in trouble. I can't help you, if you don't help yourself by telling me."
Denki nodded "I have ADHD and Dyslexia."
Harry nodded "I can help with the former, but necessarily the latter. Now…shall we? I want to see what my apprentice can do."
To find his apprentices' limits took the grand total of five minutes. Denji was in his helpless state and Harry, well, was unphased and unperturbed at being in the middle of a wild electrical discharge. Harry sat down on the ground and pulled out an uncharred notebook and pen. On the front read 'The Thunderous Tome'. The book was empty, it was a book that was going to be a 'hopefully' step-by-step guide to mastering electrical quirks; Harry had published a few pamphlets and a compendium of his pamphlets to help the British Public become more comfortable with their quirks but more importantly how to tell when a quirk was being detrimental to the body.
This book…this was going to be exclusively for his children and any Sidekicks who caught his eye. Five minutes later, Harry heard moans and groans "That's my limit."
"That's incredibly…reckless and quite frankly the worst case of electrical control that I have ever seen."
Denji paled, whilst not being that intelligent and not all enthusiastic about schoolwork was very observant. "Let me guess, worse control than your kids?"
"What makes you think I even have kids? And if I do…how do you know they're not from my loins?"
Denki snorted "On the kitchen table, you've got a family photo. Three kids, two about two years old and the other is about five."
Harry chuckled "You got me. Hero and Nozomi are mine and Fuyumis' the five year old is my godson."
Denki's eyes widened "That's cool…I think."
Harry patted Denki on the shoulder "Thanks. He splits his time between Me and his Grandmother. His parents were killed fighting with and for me."
Denki paled "I'm sorry."
"Don't be. They made their choices, I couldn't stop them even if I wanted to. Do I wish they hadn't died, with every moment. However, Denki, nothing could make me want to change their fate. I resolve myself to do the best thing, raised my Godson to be the best man I can help him be. He's the main reason I'm still on this coil. Now, I've woolgathered with you, I've reminisced about my past with you. Let's get you training correctly."
Denki nodded "How do we begin?"
"Small. I want you to get comfortable and simply breathe." It was possibly the hardest thing to do for Denki, he could feel the electricity in his body urging him to move.
"Relax. The electricity wants you to move to its tune…its your quirk and part of you. I want you to pass a pulse between your hands." Denki with his eyes closed moved his palms together and began to pulse electricity between them. His body hummed and jumped to obey, Denki's eyes fluttered awake to see tendrils of electricity snaking from his fingers and thumbs to one another and slowly forming an orb of electricity.
He looked up to see, Baraquiel, no, Harry-sensei grinning at him. "Now throw it. At me."
Denki nodded, he cupped his hands and held them at his hip "Ka…me…ha…me…kame hame…HA!"
Harry could only snort as the newly created lightning beam slammed into him. Denki's jaw dropped as his Teacher absorbed what was probably his strongest controlled attack "Not…bad…not bad at all. If you'd have put more power into that technique of yours that might have left a mark."
Denki nodded looking downtrodden "Are you saying that I'm weak?"
"He's not. Harry will never call anyone weak, not his style, you've been honing your quirk in a less than positive way. So it's going to be hard to undo your own training before you can begin to take to his own." Denki turned to see Midoriya, Todoroki, Jiro and Yaoyorozu gathering with Ojiro and a few others.
"How much did you hear?" The yellow-haired teen asked, sounding extremely nervous.
"Enough to know that we're here for you." Midoriya stated, moving closer to the purple haired teen; who blushed, but didn't resist or attempt to rebuff him.
"Alright. Harry, stop tormenting your new student. Denki-kun, showers are up the stairs and on the right." Fuyumi instructed before turning to the assembled students "The rest of you…use the other house, tell them Lady Cold told you to use their showers."
Soon enough Denki was showered and changed. Wearing black tracksuit pants with lightning bolts down the sides and a hoodie with the words 'thunderstruck' across the front and on the back it read 'licenced wire-eater'.
Harry had a zipped version of Denki's own hoodie with the words 'chief electrician' on the back.
It turned out Harry was dealing with his father. Denki sighed, his father was a successful business man and could be very stubborn unless he got precisely what he wanted. It sounded like his father wanted controlling shares in Baraquiel's Hero Agency but the Lightning Hero wasn't having it. "I'm sorry, Baraquiel-San, but I cannot endorse this very generous offer to make my son your apprentice…at least not unless my requests are met."
"You're not the first and you're not the last to try this with me. Kaminari-San, there's more than one reason you want controlling shares, it's because your humble retail store is on the edge of liquidation and bankruptcy. You don't need to know, how I know. Just know that I know and I am very aware of what you're wanting. You don't want my shares, you just want to be the one to be known as the guy who snagged a sponsor for your electrical company and whom better than the Thunder Hero." Harry replied, he placed the phone on loud speaker.
Denki could hear the heavy breathing of his father. "What do you want?"
Harry turned to see Denki sitting there, shaking…shaking with tension. "Father…you've always seen me as a disappointment. You told me to apply to UA but never expected me to get in; however, I got in. I got introduced to the BEST Teacher in the school and because he wants me to do well he approached you to gain your consent to effectively make me his responsibility and not yours. Here you are trying your hardest to obstruct your eldest son's chances to further your own agenda."
"You dare accuse me of such baseless accusations!"
"Not if you're being so defensive about them. Father, I don't give a shit if you block me. I'll still sign up for Baraquiel's apprenticeship."
"You do that and I'll take UA and Baraquiel to court."
"If the Hero Public Safety Commission cannot sweat me on the stand, what makes you think a middle manager or board member of a little eight-store electrical chain will be able to achieve? My counter-offer is good for seventy-two hours."
Harry hung up "What the fuck is up with these people? I offer them a golden opportunity and they're always wanting more."
Denki sighed "That company is my father's life."
At that moment Neville walked in with a placard that read 'I overheard' "I have a suggestion."
"Go on…"
Neville smirked "Take it over, buy it out, aren't you on a big carbon-neutral spree? Besides they're the ones who sold you your TV…and did the electrics for the house."
Denki grinned "Please! That'd be amazing if you did…if only for an ego boost."
Harry looked at his best friend and apprentice "You're advocating taking over an electronic chain just for the giggles and if anyone asks need something to launch my carbon-neutral plan?"
Fuyumi smiled "My father's done worse for less. Besides, whilst, we're not hurting for money…you've not 'ignited your rocket' and jumped to the Top-10. Yet…But this would be good, and there's that old t-shirt factory that shut down."
Harry let out a breath before turning to the assembled teens "Teens…this…is…why you marry an exceptional woman. With your best friends you can disregard their advice, and then you can laugh as it falls down. However with a wife, you can't argue so well."
Fuyumi grinned and wrapped her arms around him "Ladies, were the ones who call the shots in any situation."
Jiro blushed a bright red as she turned to Midoriya "You doing anything tomorrow? Don't give me the 'getting beaten up' excuse or the 'training all day'."
Midoriya paused, thats what he had planned to do. Judging by the looks he was getting from Baraquiel, Roadblock and Kaminari there was only one answer to give "Nothing. Nothing at all. Why?"
Jiro grinned "No, self-respecting hero or apprentice of Baraquiel is going to be wearing shirts that say 't-shirt'. Not saying that they're not cool or anything, but, it's the statement that you send with them."
"Fashion advice from a punk-rocker, should I put flowers in my hair?" Izuku replied with a grin only to see a well-toned forearm colliding with his chest and the world spinning as he landed flat on his face.
"A very impressive 180 rip-cord Lariat…very, very nice."
Jiro blushed "I've temporarily nicknamed it 'Bassline'."
Fuyumi nodded "I'll give you some pointers for the Bassline."
Ojiro grinned "And that's how I met your mother. She hit me with the bassline."
Jiro looked at the tailed-teen "I'll get you next."
