- You're getting married, daughter -.

An extreme cold washed over her, her bones became rigid and her body began to shake uncontrollably. That's what she felt when her father gave her the worst news of her life.

Sakari immediately opposed the marriage and he gave her no choice but to accept, she knew that being the Chief's omega daughter it was very likely that she would be given to a marriage for the good of the Tribe, but she didn't believe it would be so soon.

For quite some time, she forgot about that unpleasant part of her role and pursued her dream, to protect her home like the warriors of the South, the heroes of the 100 Years War.

The stories of Master Katara's adventures accompanying the Avatar were her source of inspiration from an early age and when Korra entered the army, the need to achieve that goal became more important, she trained with the best non-benders in combat and weapons, through the support of many important people, she managed to get the Council to accept her request for omega recruits to enter the defensive army due to the lack of soldiers, and when she finally achieved it, they took it away from her.

As she touches the betrothal necklace she remembers how the Council stripped her of her rank and expelled her from the military, leaving her unable to do anything to regain what she lost.

Sakari cried uncontrollably because her dream was destroyed and she lamented her lost years in the privacy of her tent, she didn't leave until she was out of tears and learned the bad news that her engagement was made public. She received a visit from several colleagues, who came to do two things: give her their condolences or to make fun of her fiancée, it was a shameful experience.

A wonderful memory that she would never want to repeat.

The Council placed her in the communal kitchen and they humiliated her greatly by being in that position, her only consolation was her mother and she encouraged her to keep going, and then her dear fiancée came, the alpha who ruined her life, they talked and she revealed more detestable things to her about those useless old men, she must have suspected that the airbender wasn't the real culprit and was also forced to accept this commitment, Yang was being very naive when she told her that they would be just friends in their marriage, she accepted it because she had nothing more to lose and end that uncomfortable conversation.

Sakari knew that friendship wouldn't last long.

They are alpha and omega, sooner or later, her instincts will dominate her and she will go for her and that will be the last nail in her coffin to end all hope of returning to her tribe and starting over, in the end, Yang will make her the mother of the new airbenders, whether she wants it or not.

The Council reduced her to that, to a fucking incubator.

- Hey, Yang - She heard Korra's voice from behind, calmly stroking her sleeping pet - How long until we get there?

Being so absorbed in her misfortunes, she forgot how much they have traveled, she was completely unaware of the environment that surrounds them, during a whole day of travel she was able to perceive the slow change in the landscape, different shades of green dominated the usual blue tones. The sea stopped having icebergs and became flat, extensive forests, giant mountains and valleys abundant with nature came.

Apparently, the outside world is more beautiful than what she was taught.

- We are already in the United Republic, in a few minutes we will arrive at the capital, I promise you it will be an incredible sight - The alpha informed them happily like a girl about to open a gift, excited to see her family again.

Damn lucky girl.

- Ladies, welcome to Republic City -.

She could barely hear what she said when they saw their destination, the enormous statue of Avatar Aang received them, behind it was the physical representation of the balance and harmony that he imposed with Fire Lord Zuko after ending the 100 Year War, hundreds of tall metal and glass buildings rose along the coast and went into the foothills of the mountains accompanied by colossal bridges and constructions that combine the styles of different nations, it really is an incredible sight.

So the rumors were true, this is the city of the future.

- There is my home - The airbender pointed to a small island with a temple near the coast, the place seemed older than the innovative city, although it was possibly built at the same time - I will introduce you to my entire family, they will be very happy to receive them.

The flying bison landed in a courtyard of the Temple and they were surrounded by a lot of servants in air robes, some seemed curious and others were excited to see the air nomad, it's rare to see so much yellow and orange in one place.

- Master Yang, it's a great joy that you have returned to the Temple - An old monk came and greeted her fiancée, he also welcomed them - I see that you have made friends during your long journey, I hope you have enjoyed the journey.

- It's a pleasure to see you again, monk Dolkar, the trip was pleasant and bore the expected fruits - She greeted the old man with a kind of proverb and then introduced them - They are Korra and Sakari, they're sisters and they will stay here for a while . If it isn't too much trouble, could you tell me if my father is here.

- I'm afraid not, your father left very early in the morning because his presence was needed at the Council and he will return at his usual time - The old monk indicated - Do you need help with the luggage and the animals?

- Yes, tell the other acolytes to help carry my friends' luggage to two rooms that are available and mine to my room, please, don't carry too much weight, monk Dolkar - The airbender asked politely, helping to take the suitcases down from the flying bison and handing them to the younger servants - I will take Denji and Naga to the stable.

- Don't worry about me, Master Yang, I still have strength, I'll go right away - The helpful old man responded with good humor, taking a backpack from Korra - Enjoy your stay, ladies guests.

What a courteous old man, unlike the elders of her tribe who are more... grumpy.

He made a small bow and left with the other servants carrying their luggage, the rest also returned to do their chores.

- Be a good girl, Naga - Korra sadly said goodbye to her pet as if it were the first time she had left her alone, while the airbender dedicated herself to pampering the bison with food and water.

- How strange - Yang said once they left the stable, she looked around the yard - My little siblings should be here by now.

Suddenly, the air nomad let out a moan of pain, they watched in surprise as a little boy appeared out of nowhere, sat on her shoulders and pulled her ears from one side to the other - Ahh! Let go of me, Meelo!

- Yang! – A girl shouted as she came at full speed in a sphere of air, crashed into her older girl, almost making her fall, and clung to her – Wow, you let your hair grow! It's very cute! How was your trip? Did you see incredible things? Are those girls over there your friends? How many adventures did they have? Could you tell me them?

The little girl was asking questions at such a fast pace that it was difficult to follow, looking intently at her older sister for answers.

- Yes, I let my hair grow, Ikki, I had a very nice trip, I saw incredible landscapes in the Earth Kingdom and the South Pole, they're my friends and they will live here for a while, I will tell you about my adventures later. What do you think? – The alpha smiled at her little sister's small pout.

- Yang, you're home! – They saw another girl who seemed a little older than the first, she ran towards the nomad and hugged her lovingly – You came on time, these children were going to drive me crazy, I missed you a lot.

The older sisters laughed while the little ones shouted that she was a liar – I missed you a lot too, Jinora. Did you read any interesting books that you recommend?

Before the girl could speak, the other abruptly interrupted her.

- You've to go see mom! She will be very happy to see you and the baby too! He's grown up a lot since you were last here! – No shit, this family has too many children and they will probably have more in the future, Sakari doesn't want to imagine how many children she will have to give to her fiancée to restore the Air Nation.

The girl named Ikki drags Yang to enter the Temple, the boy still on her shoulders, but pulling her hair while the older girl, Jinora, notices that they are there.

- Oh, I'm sorry for ignoring you, Yang's friends, I didn't mean to, my name is Jinora and I will help you with your stay - The calm and polite girl greeted them as if she were someone older - Welcome to the island of the Air Temple. Could I know their names?

- I'm Korra and this is Sakari, it's a pleasure to meet you and your siblings - When they're alone, she will thank her sister for talking to the little girl, she still doesn't feel like socializing with Yang's family, or with her.

- Come, follow me - They listened to who her sister-in-law would be and entered the interior of the Temple, the place was larger than what was seen at first glance, simplicity is everywhere along with an inherent spiritual aura, something that would be totally prohibited in the tribe.

But, they were very far from home and it's another culture, therefore, it wouldn't be condemned.

They passed through many corridors that seemed like parts of a maze until they reached a large dining room, there were a large number of servants eating quietly, strange, a pregnant woman stands out in the middle of them, she is being hugged by her fiancée and her younger brothers were jumping with air control around her, Jinora took them there and it was time to meet her mother-in-law.

- Oh, you must Korra and Sakari, right? – The non-bender already saw where Yang got her appearance from, the mother of her fiancee seems like a harmless and kind woman – I'm Pema and it's a pleasure that you're in our home. Have you eaten anything after such a long trip?

Neither of them wanted to answer negatively, because the airbender's supplies were gone and the older omega misinterpreted their silence, she stood up somewhat angry - Yang! It can't be that you haven't fed your friends, I raised you better than that.

- Mom, I was going to do it - Yang responded, embarrassed by the scolding while her younger siblings laughed behind her back - Don't scold me in front of everyone.

- Then you should be ashamed of not being a good hostess, please, you aren't a child - The mother quickly changed her emotion when she told them - Sit down with confidence, girls, I'm going to bring you a good breakfast.

She hasn't seen such a sudden mood change like Pema's in a long time.

- At least let me help you, mom - The alpha went to accompany her mother to calm her down, who didn't accept her help in the kitchen, saying something about how being pregnant doesn't make you an invalid.

What a bad temper.

They sat at the long table next to the little airbenders, who were the least interested in them on the island, playing and fighting among themselves as if every day they saw strangers at their table, although observing their lifestyle so. .. liberal, she believed that was possible.

Yang and Pema gave them a vegetarian meal, after eating, her mother-in-law ordered her youngest children to practice the morning exercise that their father had left them and said goodbye to rest, her fiancée guided them on a tour of the most important places in the Temple, the training areas, the rooms, the greenhouse and this kind of thing.

- You have a great family - Korra awkwardly began a conversation - Wouldn't it be appropriate for you to notify your father of our arrival?

- Yes, that's what I was planning, since he isn't going to come to us soon - She answered very happily, taking them to the edge of a cliff, the place has a beautiful view of the city's port - I decided that we should go to where he is.

- And where is he? - She was encouraged to speak while the airbender spread the wings of her staff.

- At the city hall, I could take you there if you want - .

- No, thanks, I'm going with Korra - After the day of the invasion, she promised that she would never ride that thing again, it was one of the most terrifying experiences of her life.

- We'll go after you - Korra told her, then Yang took flight like a bird towards the city, she saw her sister extend her arm - Sakari, take my hand.

Damn, she'll do the trick.

Whatever, it's a lot better than going on that flying thing.

They ran and jumped from the cliff, the sea covered them and Korra made an air bubble around her head as they swam towards the docks, there the nomad was waiting for them calmly amid the coming and going of travelers and port workers.

- They finally arrived, you're sooo slow - The air girl joked like her younger siblings - We don't have to hurry, we will find my father in his office.

- Couldn't we just wait for him in the Temple until he arrives? – She had forgotten to question Yang's actions before jumping off the cliff.

- Yes, but I want you to get to know the city and he will arrive until nightfall, we have to take advantage of this beautiful day, don't you think? – It can't be, that's a kid's response.

What happened with yesterday's seriousness?

- Come on, Sakari - She looked at Korra if she had hit her head, perhaps she has forgotten the most important thing - Let's get to know the city, we will live here for a while and the best thing for a soldier is to recognize the territory, right?

Hell, so is she.

She is surrounded by immature children, who dragged her to explore the city, she couldn't escape, they were two against one, apart from the fact that they are benders, it was impossible to win.

Republic City is impressive.

All the modernity that the world can offer originates here and Korra can clearly see how her predecessor fulfilled his Avatar duty, basically the city is a reflection of it, thousands of people from all nations came and went from one place to another, many of them had partners from different origins and their children were a mixture of their cultures, the people lived peacefully between the red of the Fire Nation, the green of the Earth Kingdom and the blue of the Water Tribe.

What her people would consider a joke, here is a reality, she wonders if they don't miss home or have already gotten used to the amalgamation of colors, although this city has a very new form of government and an efficient economic system, she would soon discover that it doesn't work all that well.

- Girl, you really have some very strange clothes - Korra heard the voice of a stranger near the bank of a stream where she sat, from a bush, a man came out with a careless appearance and a friendly smile - You look like you came straight out of the 100 Years War.

- Seriously? - She looked at her uniform and remembered the strange looks they gave her on the street, the girls left her in the park while Sakari went to get her some meat and Yang guided her to a store – I thought it was more current.

The man laughed at her response – You're a nice young lady, just in case you have food?

- Let me see - She checked her pockets and found something, some candy she bought before arriving at the park - I have this, do you like it?

- Yes, they look delicious, thanks - The man took the sweets from her hand and walked a little away from her.

- Do you live nearby? – Korra asked, trying to start a conversation, when she had nothing to do like right now, she would talk about anything with her comrades, they were good guys.

- I live here - She was surprised by that, because she believed that everyone should have a house in this big city - Exactly in this beautiful bush, it has taken me a while to find such a beautiful home, you know, this park is quite popular among vagrants.

- Vagrant? – She repeated the new term with curiosity.

- Are there no vagrants in the Northern Water Tribe? – She frowned at the mention of the enemy and the man retracted his words – I mean... from the Southern.

- No, my tribe helps all people, even the most disadvantaged, no one is left behind - She commented with pride about her home and saw a possible problem that she is going to solve as the Avatar - Apparently, the same thing doesn't happen here, right?

- You learn quickly, young girl, that skill will help you survive in this place, welcome to Republic City - He returned without warning to the bush, when she heard another person's scream.

- Stop! You can't fish in the stream! – Blowing a whistle, a guard ran towards her, but stopped when he saw her sitting – Excuse me, miss, I thought I saw Gommu here.

- So that's his name -.

- Yes, he always hangs around this area to fish, he was bothering her, right? – The guard reprimanded angrily – I will talk seriously to him about this.

- He didn't bother me at all, we just talked - She stood up and went to another part of the park, seeing out of the corner of her eye, Gommu was saying goodbye to her.

She continued wandering through the park in search of the girls, appreciating the view of the little nature that the city offered, the tribe integrated the natural environment into every area of daily life, however, in this place they left it aside.

- Are you tired of living under the tyranny of benders? Join the Equalists! – Standing on a platform there was a scrawny guy who spoke through a device that increases the volume of his voice. Behind him was a large poster of an unfriendly masked man.

- During all this time, the elite of Republic City's benders have forced us to live as second-class citizens. We won't longer allow that type of injustice! Join Amon and we will bring down this corrupt power system! - A small crowd gathered to listen to the nonsense preached by the man with the shrill voice.

- If this elite oppresses them as much as you say, why do you challenge them? – She dared to question the guy, she hopes that he gives her a reasonable answer so that he is so convinced to make a revolution and incite others to do so.

- Because someone has to do it - Ok, that comment is a bad sign - Our leader, Amon, seeks absolute equality, so we will be free from the oppression of the benders.

Oh damn, this guy is a radical bigot.

- I see - She carefully analyzed the expressions of the public and the protester, they were waiting for a more positive reaction from her, to continue going unnoticed, the best thing was to act as if she liked the idea - It's a very risky mission, you know, due to lack of bending.

Bad choice of words.

- Ah yes - He was silent for a moment and got angry - I know why you question me so much! You're a waterbender!

He deduced it, well, it wasn't that hard to figure out, she was in her tribe's military uniform, something that stands out like a sore thumb, sending the message that she isn't from there.

– Yes, and that doesn't mean I'm a bad person, you don't need to be a bender to oppress others -.

- Don't listen to her, she is the enemy! It's because of people like her that things are the way they are, folks! She only uses her power to oppress and exploit us just like all the benders of this city! – The beta man convinced the entire crowd to be against her, they booed her and cursed her.

What closed-minded people.

- Whatever, I don't care - She shrugged her shoulders and walked out of there, without taking any notice of a guy who doesn't even know how to defend himself.

Although the equalists seemed like one more problem to take into account.

Korra walked towards the entrance of the park, there she found them talking, more like, Yang talking and Sakari listening, well, it's progress.

- Why did it take so long? – She complained about the delay, it wasn't supposed to take more than a few minutes.

- We had problems - Sakari responded, giving her some skewers with roasted meat.

Korra, so as not to bother her, decided to eat the meat skewers and follow the airbender, who was still excited to walk the streets, despite her sister's bad mood.

They followed her while they were talking about the curiosities of the city, passing by an artifacts store, one of those rolling machines called satomobiles stopped and 3 men with bad intentions got out, the merchants closed their stores while the unfortunate man froze.

- Isn't it a lovely day, Mr. Chung? – The one who identified as a waterbender spoke, although due to the eccentric ornaments on his clothing, she was classified as a descendant of the North – I'm sure it's a good day of sale, please tell me, do you have my money or not...

The firebender lit a small flame that scared the merchant.

- I cannot guarantee that I can protect your business -.

- I'm so sorry, my business has been very slow, please take this phonograph - Before the merchant could even offer his merchandise, it was destroyed by a kick of fire, terrifying him more than he already was as the northerner looked with disappointment.

- As you could see, my friend isn't a music lover, I suggest that you give us our money or else you will suffer the consequences - The waterbender shamelessly warned.

Given the lack of cooperation from the old salesman, he gave the signal to attack and the firebender grabbed the merchant by the neck to burn his face while the earthbender began to lift the floor of the store.

But, a powerful jet of water prevented the man from the Earth Kingdom from damaging the business, sending him several meters away from the premises and leaving him out of action.

- Let him go - Korra ordered in a basic waterbending stance, her sister also prepared for a battle and Yang only extended her staff forward.

- You will pay for this! – The northerner shouted furiously, he launched a series of water bombs, Korra moved quickly and used the water from his attacks to confuse him, he was barely able to dodge them when she got close enough, grabbed his head and slammed it against her knee.

She knocked out several of his teeth until he fainted from the pain, the unfortunate man stained her clothes with blood.

- You didn't last anything, pathetic northerner - She muttered to the unconscious body, the firebender was horrified by the fall of another of his friends, he lets go of the merchant and tries to escape in the satomobile - This one is for you, Sakari.

As expected, her sister was already on her way to the confrontation, he tried to scare her with a burst of fire, but the omega knocked him down with a sweep of her feet and hit him in the neck, the man drowned while the non-bender broke the bones in his body with her fists, he fell bloodied and rolled in pain on the ground.

- Thank you! Thanks for everything! – The merchant exclaimed gratefully in a mix of emotions, the other vendors opened their businesses once the extortionists were knocked down by them.

- We must leave here now! – Yang told them nervously, she took their hands and led them away from the alarm that suddenly began to sound.

- Who are they? – Sakari asked about the benders who got off an airship.

- They're metalbenders and if they catch us, we will end up in trouble - The airbender warned before speeding up her pace, Korra lost sight of those interesting benders and concentrated on running at that high speed.

It's funny how a race tired her more than a fight.

With such a calm lifestyle, it was probably because most of the benders in the city are as bad fighters as those guys, even the northerners in the invasion gave her more of a fight.

Finally, they arrived at their destination.

The city hall is an elegant building similar to a palace, the guards let them through Yang's intervention and they entered an environment as tense as the Southern Council, there were 4 councilors and each one represented each nation, among them stands out a bald man with air tattoos, he was very similar to the monk who dreamed after the invasion, the difference is that his beard is longer than his.

Strange.

- Through this concession, we end this session - Declared the leader of the Council, an alpha of the Northern Water Tribe due to his characteristic dress and arrogance.

- Councilman Tarrlok, don't end the meeting - The airbender asked the elder, who was surprised by her arrival, Yang's father seemed shocked by simply appearing like that while the other councilors remained impassive - I have fulfilled the mission they imposed on me.

- Master Yang, it's a pleasure to see you again - Councilman Tarrlok greeted with false joy, Korra felt the speculative looks of the other councilors, trying to find the purpose of her presence - I have to assume that one of the girls is the Avatar, right?

-Yes – She stated confidently and then pointed to her – My friend Korra is the new Avatar.

The northerner looked at her with scrutiny while the rest doubted the girl - Are you sure, Yang? I trust that you carried out the appropriate tests and didn't choose her just because she is your friend.

This is despicable.

He is belittling all of Yang's effort in searching for her, as if invasion, commitment, and alliance were reduced to a child's thing, she already hates him.

- You want proof, don't you? – She spoke loud and clear in front of them, without fear of their accusations, she gathered water in the palm of her hand and concentrated on attracting the earth in the other, the rock detached from the pillar and then united it with the water, the elements danced in the impressed view of the incredulous councilors, Yang just smiled and her sister was proud - Have your proof, I'm the Avatar and you gotta deal with it.

Everything went very quickly from there, thousands of people took to the streets to see her, in fact, they want to see the successor of Avatar Aang.

The flashing lights blinded her and the expectation of all those people about what she was going to say left her frozen.

- Are you scared, Avatar? – Sakari bothered her, she pushed her slightly and she laughed at her situation – Don't worry, you'll do fine, Korra.

- I hope so - She said before Yang's father guided her in front of the podium and addressed the large crowd that appeared - Hello everyone, I'm Korra and I'm your new Avatar.

She heard hundreds of applause and several questions from curious people about what she would do next in the city, she breathed and spoke with confidence.

- I'm glad to receive a warm welcome from you, Republic City, I will stay with you throughout my training, I confess that I'm new to being the Avatar, but my successor wanted this city to be the center of peace and balance in the world, so it will be, I will do what is necessary to fulfill my duty to you and to the entire world. Thank you -.

Finally, the horrible speech classes were useful for something.

They cheered her with excitement and the flashing lights returned with force, they celebrated her words as if she were a queen, although the truth is totally different.

What happened before arriving at the city hall revealed to her the important problems of this city and Korra is sure that she will discover more as time goes by, she had to solve them at any cost.

Now, she had to concentrate to become the Avatar that she was meant to be.

The chapters won't come out as often anymore (I have tried to update weekly), but due to long power outages in my country, it will take me more time to write and translate the story.

But don't worry, I will be inspired to make the creative process faster in blackouts and without internet.

Give me luck and comments to finish this fanfic.
