The White Lotus.
That was the first thing she saw when the new day began; most of the inhabitants of the Air Temple island were surprised by the sudden appearance of dozens of sentinels and soldiers of that influential order, including the new guests.
Because the organization that helped Avatar Aang in stopping the expansionist ambitions of the Fire Nation has come to visit them.
Many acolytes were whispering curiously in the hallways about the reason for the White Lotus's unexpected visit, since they gave up on the search for the Avatar at the South Pole a decade ago, Yang has in mind a possible answer to their doubts.
The White Lotus wanted to fulfill the other party's specific mission, and it would be great if she took this opportunity to give Korra proper teachers in the elements she needs to master.
She had to do it, to honor her grandfather's legacy that falls on Korra's shoulders.
Yang has read several accounts of Aang's life and understands how at 12 years old, he had to face the consequences of running away from responsibility and ending what was harming the world, her grandfather was just a boy who wanted to play a little more and wanted his successor to enjoy the childhood he lost.
However, crises in nations don't wait until the Avatar has fully grown, people just want him to do his duty for the greater good in the shortest time possible.
For that reason, her grandfather entrusted the mission of finding and training his next reincarnation so that she would be prepared for the challenges that would come in maintaining balance and harmony in the time of peace that Fire Lord Zuko and he established with great effort.
Unfortunately, the prosperous era of harmony ended too soon, just a few months after his death with the terrible New Moon Massacre, it's still a mystery as to how the mass murders occurred to this day and they may never know.
Now, it is Korra's duty to establish a new era of balance and harmony in a world too conflictive, it is a certainty that many will oppose the changes she will bring, but it does not matter, she will support her anyway so that Korra's actions as Avatar endure for a long time.
Sometimes, she thinks about what could have happened if Korra was found in her childhood like her grandfather, probably many things would be completely different, there might even be the small chance that the Water Tribe Civil War would never have broken out.
But that is one of the crazy dreams that are created in her imagination. Right now, Yang must focus on the current problems, which require her attention to find a quick solution before it's too late, especially when the equalists threat grows rapidly and approaches her home.
The sea was calm and the waves were soft, the White Lotus ships were anchored on the coast and several sentinels walked along the beach to mark the perimeter, in the port of the island were they, the offspring of the previous Avatar.
She dressed in special robes for the occasion and waited patiently for the arrival of the leaders of the order, she met the prestigious masters when she was a child and frankly, they aren't part of a good memory.
Yang hopes her siblings behave well on this visit; she doesn't want the morning to be ruined by malicious comments from the newcomers.
- It is a pleasure that the Order of the White Lotus honors my home with its arrival - Her father exclaimed with great respect to the leaders, who were accompanied by an entourage of guards flanking the road - It has been a while since your last visit.
- Unlike that time, we have come for a different reason, we will celebrate with you the discovery of the new Avatar, it was time for her to appear - A leader with noble features commented politely, she recognized him as Master Qiang, originally from the inner wall from Ba Sing Se - Also great pleasure to see you and your family, Master Tenzin.
The other leaders, Akari of the Fire Nation and Hatun of the Northern Water Tribe, watched the exchange silently and skeptically, attentive to any mistakes on the other side's part.
- Please, come in and enjoy a nice meal - Her father told them to enter the Temple, he guided them to the dining room, there were her mother and her siblings along with Korra and Sakari, from her position she noticed the judging glances of the order at the Water Tribe girls and the awkwardness of the two.
That isn't good.
She is aware that the leaders met her grandpa in person, so they tried to guess which of the two is the new Avatar through their actions and gestures, trying to see something of Aang in one of them, regardless of they are completely different people and with different priorities.
They sat near the sisters, ignoring the girls' cautious and reserved behavior due to the somewhat inconsiderate judgment of the top representatives of the organization that helped end the 100 Years War.
- So one of you is Avatar Korra, right? – Leader Akari inquired with slight kindness in her direct words.
- That would be me - Korra pointed to herself and the leaders stopped showing interest in Sakari, who sighed in relief - It's an honor to meet the Order of the White Lotus.
- I know you - Master Hatun's comment surprised them - You are the firstborn of Chief Tonraq, he put a lot of obstacles in our search in your home until they prohibited the entry of foreigners, none of us would think that you would be the new Avatar, Princess Korra of the Southern Water Tribe.
Yang saw Korra somewhat affected by this information, probably not aware of said previous quest - I'm no longer a princess, sir, I'm just the Avatar now.
- It is your responsibility to immediately accept your duty to the world - Master Qiang said after drinking some tea - This way you will avoid making the same mistakes as your predecessor, although he tried to correct them, there were problems so serious that he could never arrange.
That was a very unnecessary comment.
- From your posture, I would say you were in the army, right? – Master Akari stated forcefully and Korra nodded – Then you will understand that you have to do what is necessary to fulfill your duty, even if it isn't morally correct.
Before her friend could comment anything, Master Qiang spoke quickly.
- We have wasted too much time looking for you - Although he is one of the leaders of the order and comes from a noble family, he didn't act according to his status - If we had found you when you were a child, by now, you would be mastering airbending. Tell me, Avatar Korra, what are your abilities?
She heard that question from somewhere else.
- I master waterbending and its sub-arts, I also partially control earthbending - Korra responded, confident in her combat capabilities.
- That's a good starting point, you will need skilled teachers of each element to become a good Avatar and that is what we come to offer you - After saying that, Master Hatun indicated to the sentry to open the doors of the dining room.
Four high-ranking members of the White Lotus entered who had a very different aura from those present, a formidable earthbender, an abnormally tall and intimidating firebender with that tattoo on her forehead, a small waterbender with an unfriendly expression and, finally, a non-bender, whose face conveyed a peace and wisdom that was difficult to achieve.
Was he some kind of monk?
- They are the most powerful members of the White Lotus, prodigies in their respective element and combat style, they will be your teachers, they're the best for the Avatar - The native of the Northern Water Tribe reported very proudly about these people.
- My name is Yorru and it's a pleasure to be one of the Avatar's teachers - The monk introduced himself with a slight bow towards Korra, then pointed to his companions - They're my friends and your future teachers.
- I'm Genghis, Avatar - The earthbender ignored all the politeness of the situation and greeted the Avatar with a handshake, which reciprocated with more force, making the authorities mad - Very well, you have the attitude, little girl.
- Rei – The firebender doesn't inspire confidence, she shows some respect to Korra by greeting her – I will make you work hard in my training.
- I'm Mei Ling - Is that a name from the Water Tribes? Yang isn't entirely sure, maybe the waterbender is a half-breed from Republic City - Even if you already master waterbending, I'm willing to teach you my techniques.
The woman raised her arm and it wasn't normal.
It was impressive how she made the water an extension of herself.
Korra and the others, except those of the order, were surprised by this display of skill, Yang remembered the exploits of the war heroine Toph Beifong and how blindness empowered her in a certain way in the mastery of earthbending.
Breakfast began once her friend's new teachers sat at the long table, while everyone ate quietly, the airbender began to think about these wonders of the White Lotus and what could help her fulfill her part in the alliance, for that you should talk to them about it.
She would have to tell her family first and leave out the matter of her engagement to Sakari to avoid a big problem.
Yang hopes her parents don't find out soon.
- Sakari - Korra entered her room without warning, she was dressed in the ugly colors of the Earth Kingdom and looked tired, apparently the training with that Genghis guy was heavier than that of the offensive army, she must have been busy mastering a new element and not worrying about a nuisance like her, though - Are you okay?
She felt a lump in her throat that prevented her from saying a word.
Sakari wanted to say a lot of things, to vent to the only person she trusts on this island and reveal all her fears about the future that awaited her, but she couldn't say anything, Korra didn't speak either and just hugged her as tight as in the old days.
- No - With that simple answer she confessed her vulnerability, something unacceptable in the tribe, but now she really needed it and she wouldn't tell her sister that she missed feeling protected once again - I'm not well at all.
In reality, she is devastated because other people control her own life, when she finally does something for herself, they take it away from her and use her as a bargaining chip, she always believed that she had some say as princess of the tribe, but it was never true.
She isn't important, she is replaceable.
- I'm not good at this kind of thing, but I know you'll make it - Korra tried to console her awkwardly and was grateful for the attempt - This wouldn't stop you from continuing to be the best non-bender fighter in the world and I'm sure you'll get through this bad time.
Something she wouldn't tell her sister is that her words comfort and encourage her, to prevent her from being more proud and stupid than she is.
- Thank you - She squeezed her arms tighter in the hug - I love you so much, Korra.
- I love you too, Sakari -.
Despite fully enjoying a brotherly moment, it ended very quickly when some very hurried knocks sounded on her door and then it suddenly opened.
- Avatar calls you my dad! – A bald boy, Yang's little brother, shouted – Hurry up!
- I told you not to call me Avatar - Her sister corrected the little airbender, apparently, she still hasn't gotten used to the title - Use my name.
- Your name is ugly - She couldn't help but laugh at the occurrences of a 5-year-old child and Korra gave her a dirty look for that - Move! I want to go play!
- Come with me - Her sister proposed with her characteristic crooked smile once Meelo left them in the hallway - I promise you that we will train together without bending.
Sakari pretended to think for a few seconds before accepting – Mmm...I think it's a good offer, come on.
They left the pavilion of the rooms and searched for Master Tenzin throughout the rest of the Temple without much result, so they had to ask for some help.
- He must be in his study - Her mother-in-law, Pema, gave them an important clue about his whereabouts - Yang is talking about something important with him.
It will be about your commitment, right?
She hopes not, that man is already quite uncomfortable with them since the demonstration of Korra's powers to the Council, she also discovered that her father-in-law is more skeptical than her fiancée, he along with the White Lotus asked about very personal things about Avatar Aang and surprisingly, her sister answered each one of them correctly. After that test, she revealed to her that the answers came to her head by themselves.
Definitely a strange Avatar ability.
Now, he's... tense around Korra, he didn't know how to treat her and it was getting boring seeing him that way all day, at least he acted more relaxed around her.
Maybe it's because her sister is the reincarnation of his father.
If Korra dies in the very distant future, surely Sakari will look for something of her in the new Avatar just as Master Tenzin does, possibly the boy or girl from the Earth Kingdom will be a completely different person than the one she misses and will inadvertently break her hopes of seeing her sister again and unfortunately her father-in-law hasn't yet realized that.
It would be better for him to change his mind soon.
For their good luck, on this day, the acolytes stopped being so withdrawn and helped them get to Master Tenzin's study, they heard some murmurings and Korra knocked on the door.
- Korra enters - Her fiancée opened and made her sister enter the study, she came out, greeted her nervously and left for the training fields.
What will she do now?
Maybe it would be a good option to do a little exercise after these... hectic days.
She found the airbender meditating in front of the sea, decided to ignore her and began training an unarmed fighting style, Sergeant Dakk was very insistent on this type of combat and he was certainly right.
The movements were quick and precise, similar to those of a waterbender, the change of postures flowed like water due to repetition and she had a certain grace when moving. Her practice session didn't continue because her concentration was broken, someone was staring at her and she knew who it is.
- What do you want? - She asked, somewhat annoyed with her fiancée, who looked like a girl caught red-handed.
- Can I train with you? -.
Generally, the betrothed would do activities together to get to know each other before the wedding, however, Sakari has never heard that it also involves combat, due to her tribe's rustic traditions about the delicacy of omegas, but if Yang wanted to win her friendship, she was going down a good path.
- Sure - She told her with confidence, the alpha got up and stood in front of her on the training field, she was going to defeat her.
They stared at each other for a few moments, waiting for one of them to take the first step, the non-bender became desperate because the air girl wasn't moving, so she went for her. As expected, the alpha avoided her high kick and redirected the direction of her punch, making her dizzy with her evasive style.
The airbender was careless for a moment as she blocked another attack and Sakari managed to grab her arm, pinning it with a classic technique and almost knocking her to the ground with the force of Yang's weight, but the alpha stopped struggling and used some airbending to get away from the omega, jumping over her head and landing a safe distance away.
- Don't play with me - Sakari demanded angrily, returning to her combat position and surrounding her in search of a vulnerable area - You're slower than last time, the training won't be worth it if you let me win, give me a challenge, attack me.
- I don't want to hurt you - Yang dodged a direct blow and deflected another that was going faster, she subtly put her foot in Sakari's stance and unbalanced her, a soft blow with her palm made the omega fall - Take the training easy.
Damn.
She isn't even using airbending offensively and she already knocked her down, but she won't give up on her until she falls, her fiancée extended her hand and took it to perform her next move.
Sakari pulled Yang in her direction, put her feet on her stomach and pushed her hard to the ground, standing on top of her with one fist ready to knock her out.
- I warned you not to play with me - She threatened her when her fiancée opened her eyes, but she didn't see her scared, but with a strange expression, Yang is definitely a strange girl, she took her by her robes and faced her face to face - In the next round, I want you not to hold back, I showed you what I'm capable of and I will resist everything you have for me.
- O-O-Okay - Yang stuttered with a red face and realized what she said.
Oh shit.
She shouldn't have said those words in that situation, she blushed at the incorrect implication she inadvertently gave her, damn it.
- Ehm... Ehm... Am I interrupting something? - An ugly fake cough ruined her even more and she saw Korra smiling arrogantly - Sakari, you like sitting there, don't you?
She felt her face burn at that stupidity.
- Shut up, you idiot! – The embarrassed non-bender shouted, getting off the airbender and angrily heading to her older sister - Delete that fucking smile, now! Stop laughing!
Korra's laughter continued despite Sakari's efforts to stop it, Yang was unable to get up from the ground, during the short time that moment lasted, the omega was aware of the new and uncomfortable reality that was opening before her eyes.
She tried to disappear her blush while her sister continued to tease her and tried to return to her previous state without much success.
She didn't deny that she found the alpha somewhat attractive, but she shouldn't get her hopes up about her and a hypothetical happy life as a couple. Yang has a duty to rebuild a nation and Sakari is just a means to achieve it.
She can't fantasize about something that will never work.
Her father-in-law appeared with a tired and distressed face, and when he saw her, his expression became conflicted, he knew something.
- Yang, come here - Master Tenzin called the girl, she quickly got up and went to him - Didn't you have to introduce me to someone important, daughter?
- Yes, you already met the Avatar, dad - Yang lied blatantly and her father didn't fall for her lie.
- You know what I mean! - Tenzin exclaimed with obvious anger, he took a deep breath to calm down - You shouldn't have hidden something as important as your engagement from me, Yang.
So this is where the anonymity of their engagement ends, now Avatar Aang's entire family will find out, and therefore, it will be public to the big city no matter what she does.
- I was going to tell you with the rest of the information, but... I didn't have time - The airbender apologized weakly and her father was just disappointed - I'm so sorry, dad, I couldn't stop it from happening, the Southern Council asks the engagement to seal the alliance, not even Chief Tonraq agreed to this, so... I hadn't choice, I accepted it so that they wouldn't go against us.
Her fiancée wailed and Sakari felt bad for her.
- That was a difficult decision, honey - He smiled slightly and raised his daughter's head to look her in the eyes - It wasn't your fault, little girl, why don't you formally introduce your fiancée to the family, I'll call your mom and your siblings to correct this, don't you think?
Yang just nodded, he saw her and walked towards her - I apologize for this inconvenience, Princess Sakari, I'm grateful that you didn't bother with this disrespect that my daughter committed towards you.
- Don't worry, Master Tenzin - She accepted the apology with the cordiality she shows at the Tribal Council - She, like me, needed to think about our engagement.
The excuse turned out to be good because her father-in-law believed it, in the end, he left to call the rest of his family and realized that someone was missing, at some point, Korra had run away from her and was alone with Yang.
Incredible.
- Hey, I'm going to the city later, would you like to come with me? - The air nomad asked her extremely nervously - I'm going to visit my Gran Gran and my aunt Kya, they share many things with you... So I don't know if you would like to go?
This is a one-of-a-kind opportunity, meeting your hero in person and the small price to pay is putting up with her fiancée, even though she isn't a pain in the ass.
- Let's go - She accepting the ''date'', Yang set a time and place to meet again at night.
The airbender family arrived too early for their liking, the alpha introduced her as her fiancée in front of them and some servants who were there, the mother was stunned by the news and showed her the engagement necklace that Yang had done her, the children began to bother them, wanting them to tell them their magical "love story" and the father discussed some details of the alliance with them.
Later, the servants treated her with more respect than usual as did most of the White Lotus, she is sure that tomorrow, all of Republic City will know it.
Privacy doesn't exist anywhere in the world.
What do you think of the chapter?
It seemed a bit lazy to me, but Korra needed teachers and I needed an excuse to progress things among those forced to marry xd
Now yes, the rest of the Krew is coming, I'm not going to lie to you anymore, I promise.
I will also upload content so often on the ig account, I am going to start drawing comics, give me luck, likes and comments.
