WELCOME ONE AND ALL TO PUMMELO STADIUM, TODAY IS ONE FILLED WITH TRADITION AS WE WELCOME OUR FRIENDS FROM THE MAINLAND ONTO OUR SUNNY SHORES! TODAY IS THE ANNUAL KANTO JUNIOR CUP INVITATIONAL, THIS IS WHERE ONE OF THE TOP TRAINERS FROM THE MOST RECENT JUNIOR KANTO CUP TAKES ON OUR OWN FAIR CHAMPION DRAKE! NORMALLY THE WINNER OF THE TOURNAMENT WOULD PARTAKE HOWEVER DUE TO UNFORESEEN CIRCUMSTANCES CALLUM IS UNABLE TO CHALLENGE. HOWEVER DON'T FRET THE SECOND PLACE TRAINER WILL BE BATTLING TODAY IN RYAN! HE'S A YOUNG TRAINER WITH MANY STRONG AND FIERCE POKEMON AND YOU MAY JUST HAVE HEARD OF HIS GRANDFATHER BEFORE!
I shiver at the mentioned of my Grandad
"Why does he always have to get a mention" I sigh to myself as Eevee jumps to my lap
"VEE VEE"
"I know I should be used to it by now" I smile at her rubbing her head
At this time the door pushes open, I look up to see my Mom walking in with Totodile in her arms fidgeting and struggling to get away from her
"Okay Toto, calm down" She says as he manages to squirm away from her
"Totototototototo" He bellows up at me dancing at my feet
"I told you buddy, you've not got enough experience to battle today, you will get your chance I promise" I say picking me up
"To To" he says solemnly as I put him back down on the floor
"You cheer us on from up top with Mom okay?" I say rubbing his head
"TO TO!" He calls out happily dancing about again
Mom sighs
"Can I have his ball at least, he can be a handful"
"Sorry I don't have it yet, Elm still got it at the moment"
"Oh joy" she says sarcastically
"It's okay, I'm picking my team now. The other guys can come up with you and should keep him settled"
"Wait? You've not picked your team yet" She says a little stunned
"No, this was all quite short notice remember" I say tapping at the PC screen
With a quick flash all my Pokemon are in front of me save for Hitmonlee, Snorlax and Dragonite
"Okay guys, Drake is formidable, only one challenger in the last 20 has managed to beat him and make it into the hall of fame so we have to be in tip top form to do it" I say to them all
Dragonair slides up to me and brushes against in affirmation while the rest nod or growl in concordance
"So, Magmar and Tauros I promised you both I would use you in the next big battle so I make good on that today, your both in"
The two look slightly stunned but quickly dispel this and roar out in joy
"Magenton I'm using you too, steel is a good defence against most of Drakes Pokemon and your one of my only special attackers now"
"Mag Mag!" he calls out in his electronic voice
"Dragonair, I'm leaving you out for today, we're a little inexperienced together still and I don't think its a good idea to throw you head first into a battle like this"
She nods slightly saddened but calls out in understanding
"You go up with Mom and keep an eye on Toto yeah?" I say patting her head which she calls out in joy at both sliding up to Totodile
"Hitmonlee was going to join us today but he's not able to but he said he'll be watching back in Saffron and rooting for us all the way"
They all nod
"Well here goes" I say throwing out another ball
The cumbersome Snorlax emerges flat out asleep on his back
"Snor, lax, Snor, Lax" he snores away deeply content in his sleep
I walk up the large bear like Pokemon
"Snorlax buddy, I need you today, come on wake up" I say pushing at his side trying to raise the deep sleeping Pokemon
"Please bud, I need you now more than ever, WAKE UP" I say as Eevee jumps to his stomach bouncing up and down trying to raise him
I wait but still nothing, I sigh loudly turning back to my team
"Okay well" I begin before a loud belch comes from behind
The giant Snorlax pulls itself up to a sitting position and yawns loudly
"yes buddy your awake!" I shout at the startled Snorlax
"I need you today in my big battle, I promise once its done, I'll let you eat as much as you want"
Snorlax picks me up and pulls me it an embrace calling out in happiness
"I think its saying it will battle for you anyway" Mom retorts with a laugh
"Thanks bud" I say patting his stomach as he puts me down
"Eevee you're in too" I say patting Vee head
"And you Aerodactyl, you are strong against his Dragonite, I'll 100% need you for it"
"AERO!" He calls out
"Which means I'm leaving you two out" I say walking up to Nidoking and Kingler
They both look slightly upset but nod in agreement
"It wasn't easy but I feel Magneton and Aerodactyl have the advantage where we need it today"
They nod and move towards me as I pat Nido head and Kinglers claw as Totodile starts to yap up at Dragonair who scowl down at the small water type
"Keep an eye on both of them for me too please" I whisper to them
They nod and walk out with the other two and Mom trailing behind
"Okay, group up" I shout to my team of six
They all push in together
"We do this together guys, we do it for those who aren't battling, we do it to prove to everyone that we are capable of being the strongest" I say calmly and sternly to my six Pokemon
"But most importantly, we do it for each other"
AND WELCOME TO THE STADIUM THE CHALLENGER RYAN!
I breathe out heavily before I walk out into the stadium, the crowd roars violently, I knew it might be quite volatile but there seems to be an added pressure in the air like an air of expectancy of me. I look up and straight across the battlefield towards my opponent Drake, he stand very tall about 6ft 4 if I had to guess, if not for the growth spurt I had experienced during my journey I would have been dwarfed by the man. His jet black hair is a stark comparison to the white stone colosseum that surrounds us
"Welcome Ryan to the Orange league!" HE shouts out to me
I stop at my box with Eevee who jump down from my shoulder, I look up to the family box and see Mom and my sister Kerry both sat up there watching, Kerry has her daughter and my Niece Isla with her but she only a year and a half so has no real idea what happening, they both wave while Kerry motions Isla hand who more interested in Kingler and Nidoking who sit beside them. Sat in front of them is my only representation of my fathers side of the family in my Nan, she shoot me a very soft smile and wave.
I smile and wave back to them all before turning again to Drake
"I battled your Grandfather around 15 years ago, he absolutely trounced me" He shouts with a laugh
"Yeah he's got a habit of doing that" I shout back with a nervous tone
"Relax, limiters are on so my Pokemon are a down to your level for today, one day we can have an all out battle" He says with a wink as the referee walks out to the edge of the turf
"Welcome both trainers, the rules for this match is simple, it will be a six on six battle and the winner will be determined when one trainer has no usable Pokemon left. There will be a 10 minute break once one trainer has lost three Pokemon and the pitch will be a Rock field for the whole match. Substitutions are only allowed for the challenger, no time limit, as tradition Dragonite will be allowed to use 6 moves due to him not having substitutions. Drake said there will be limiters in effect on his Pokemon meaning they will be level 40 on a regional level to match Ryan highest level Pokemon."
"Only 40? What about your Dragonite?" Drake question looking towards me
"I released it temporarily, it won a battle on Dragon origin island and became the Elder and I didn't want to stop it"
He looks at me shocked before rolling the ball on his necklace through his fingers
"My Dragonite held that title for 5 years so I know how it feels, I was lucky as I was on the islands and could call upon him whenever I needed. I have a lot of respect for understanding not only the culture of us here in the Orange Islands but to also to allow a Pokemon to pursue something it wants rather than your own gain is very admirable young man"
I smile and take a deep breath
"But that doesn't mean I will take it easy on you" he says taking his first ball from his belt
"IF BOTH CHALLENGERS ARE READY THEN CHAMPION CHOOSE YOUR FIRST POKEMON"
He smiles
"Ditto I choose you!"
In a flash the small pink blob emerges onto the pitch
"Tauros your up" I shout throwing a ball onto the field
The raging bull bellows out rearing it head.
Ditto uses its Imposter ability and quickly transforms itself into Tauros
Drake quickly scans and check Ditto with his device to see what moves it can now use
"Hmm not a bad move set, use Double Edge!" He instructs
The newly transformed Ditto runs head first at Tauros
"Like we practised Tauros!" I shout out
Tauros crouches on it front legs and absorbs the hit and flings the newly transformed Ditto into the air who flails about
"Hit it with Close combat!"
As Ditto descends Tauros turns and powers in hind legs into its midriff flinging across the rocks before it skids to a halt, it transforms back to Ditto and lies motionlessly on the floor unable to go on. Tauros roars out in victory as the referee announces the winner as the crowd cheer him on
"Nice work Tauros!" I shout out to him as I return him to his ball
"Magmar you're up!"
Magmar emerges from it ball and roars, he spits out a few streams of fire to show his power
"Onix lets rock!"
Drake send out the gargantuan rock snake Pokemon who screeches at Magmar on entry, Magmar stands determined not budging in the slightest
"Use Earthquake"
Onix slams its tail into the ground causing the field to shake all over
"Push yourself into the air with Iron Tail!"
Magmar tail glows bright white and slams it into the ground and evades the shaking
"Nice move but your a sitting duck now, Onix Rock Slide!"
Onix whips it tail flinging rock at Magmar
"Spin and use Flamethrower!"
Magmar begins to spin bellowing out flames upon flames, with the pace already gained from the Iron Tail the spinning cause the rocks to be pushed away causing no affect to Magmar
"Now slam into Onix"
Magmar ploughs itself alight with flame right into Onix's head, causing the rock type to writhe in pain, Magmar lands as the fire dissipates round him. Onix stares down the fire type before being engulfed in flames as Magmar's ability activates
"Focus Blast!"
Magmar summons a large ball sphere of energy and throws it off at Onix connecting with its midriff causing the rock snake to fall back to its back unable to go on
"Onix cannot continue, Magmar is the victor!" the referee shouts as Magmar bellows out fire in victory
"Great work Mag!" I shout out to Magmar as he jogs back over to our side of the field
"Well you mainland kids certainly get stronger and stronger each year!" Drake shouts out to me
I take a deep breath looking up to the box as I get a thumbs up from my Mom and sister
"Gengar you're up"
Drakes Gengar comes out and zips about the field as Magmar tries to follow it
"Don't try and follow it Mag, you'll just get confused, listen for it moving" I shout to Magmar
"Gengar, Shadow Ball"
Gengar zips behind it and summons a huge ball of purple energy
"Iron Tail"
Magmar spins around and slams its glowing tails into the energy ball causing it to explode
Magmar is flung across the field while Gengar is pushed into the air, Magmar pulls itself to its feet
"Magmar, Flamethrower"
Magmar puffs it chest and fires off a huge stream of fire towards the ghost type which deftly dodges
"Sludge Wave"
Gengar spits out a flurry of poison sludge which torrents over Magmar, he stumbles and eventually falls to it back not able to go on
"Magmar is unable to battle, Gengar wins"
I return Magmar to it ball and thank it for its efforts, Gengar continues to zip around the field as I palm over the rest of my Pokemon
"Magneton I choose you!"
Magneton floats out onto the field and lets some sparks off
"Okay Mag like we practised, spin and use Thunderbolt"
Magneton begins to spins slowly before becoming quicker letting off a dome of electricity which gates Gengar away from it
"Gengar get inside"
Gengar manges to slip inside
"Spin Faster!"
By spinning faster it cause the dome to recede closer in turn pulling Gengar towards Magneton while its also peppered by the electricity causing slight damage each time
"Gengar finish this fast Focus Blast!"
Gengar pushes through and station it self right in front of Magneton trying to summon a Focus Blast
"Gotcha, now Flash Cannon!"
Magneton manages to stop itself dead and summons a huge burst of white light energy and blast Gengar directly with it
Gengar is enveloped in the beam and flung across the field and slams into some rocks
"GENGAR IS UNABLE TO BATTLE" The referee shouts as the crowd go into raptures
Letting the emotions get to me I run out to Magneton and jump on its back congratulating it as I do, it calls out in happiness bopping up and down in the air
"There will now be a ten minute break as one of the trainers has lost three of their Pokemon!" the referee announces as Drake claps as I return Magneton
"sorry about that I know its a little unprofessional" I shout to him clasping my hands together
"Don't worry about it!" He shouts back as he returns to his bench as I spot the Pokeball around his neck for the first time reminding me of task ahead.
I return to my bench and sit down with Eevee who has been patiently waiting
"Vee Vee!" she calls out
"Not yet, you will get your chance"
"Electabuzz, Venusaur and Dragonite to go, Snorlax for Electabuzz, Aerodactyl and Tauros for Venusaur and anyone who left for Dragonite" I say stroking Eevee who calls out happily
"Come up and stand with me for the rest of the match okay" I say to my starter
"Vee!" She calls out nodding as the referee motions for us to come back to our boxes
"Venusaur I choose you!"
The goliath Grass type emerges onto the field
"Tauros your back up"
Tauros emerges back out and roars
"Vine Whip"
Venusaur flings out vines from it flower
"Double Edge!"
Tauros powers its way past the vines taking damage before slamming head first into Venusaur, who takes damage but bears the hit
"Sludge Bomb"
Venusaur wraps its vines around Tauros's legs so it cannot run as it fires a group of sludge pellets into the air, its rips and flies down through the air and lands on Tauros back pummelling it into the ground
"Tauros is unable to battle!"
I return Tauros to its ball thanking it before putting its ball back onto my belt
"Aerodactyl, you're up"
Aerodactyl bursts out and flies up high
"Aero, use Dual Wingbeat!"
Aerodactyl slices its wings in the air firing 5 slices of wind at Venusaur which 4 hit the mark with the last one grazing it
"Vine Whip, grab its wings"
Venusaur tries to latch onto the flying type
"Bite down on its vine"
Aerodactyl flips out and bites down on the vine
"Ice Fang!"
Aerodactyl mouth glows a bright blue and the blue ice runs all the way down and envelopes Venusaur in ice
"Dual Wingbeat"
Again Aerodactyl fires off the slices of air and it slams into Venusaur, when the dust settles Venusaur is show out on its belly unable to continue
The crowd goes crazy as the referee announces the result and I take a big breath returning Aerodactyl to its ball
"Vee Vee!"
"Yeah we will try it"
"Eevee your up!"
Eevee runs out onto the field and barks up at Drake
"Your partner is very determined I see" he says sending out his Electabuzz
The electric type appears and growls at Eevee who stands determined
"Vee use Work Up"
Eevee then begins to glow red and raises both its Special Attack and Attack
"Use Thunderbolt"
"Dodge"
Electabuzz fires out a quick charge of electricity but Eevee deftly using the rocks to bounce out of the way
"Work Up again"
Eevee repeats the attack
"Get in close, Brick Break"
Electabuzz darts in and traps Eevee in a formation of rocks
"Stored Power!"
Eevee glows bright red before firing off a beam of red and white energy which ploughs into Electabuzz flinging the electric type right back across the field, it slumps against one of the rocks unable to continue
Eevee jumps up onto one of the rocks and jumps up and down happily
"Great work Eevee but the real fight starts now"
Eevee turns looking at me before nodding and getting into a serious stance
"Well then Ryan I suppose now the main event occurs, do you think your prepared for this?" Drake says with a smug smirk rolling the ball on his necklace through his fingers
"We'll give it everything we've got"
"Well good luck!" he shouts throwing out the ball
It bursts open and Dragonite appears, it stretches and flutters it wings before roaring loudly as the crowd cheer seeing Drakes signature Pokemon emerge
"Okay, Eevee Work Up!"
Eevee again glow bright red
"Dragonite, Ice Beam"
Dragonite summons a ball of blue energy and fires it off, Eevee tries to jump out the way but the blast hits the rocks below it flinging Eevee away
"Stored Power!"
Eevee rolls and pushes itself to its feet and fire off Stored Power again
"Counter with Dragon Pulse"
Dragonite fires a blue beams of energy at Eevee and the two attacks collide and are equally matched
"Eevee, Baton Pass"
Eevee jumps up and is sucked back into its Pokeball
"Please be awake" I whisper to the ball before throwing it out
Snorlax appears on the field on two feet and is quickly enveloped in the red energy of Baton Pass, passing the stat increases of Work Up onto him
He roars with the power and looking determined at Drakes Dragonite
"Good strategy!" Drake shouts
"It won't work though, Dragonite use Haze!"
Dragonite flaps its wings causing a wave of blue mist to hit Snorlax as its enveloped the stat increases melt away from it
"No!" I shout as Snorlax looks around confused
"So then what now?" Drake questions
"Snorlax, use Ice Punch"
Snorlax charges in and swings its fist but Dragonite deftly dodges
"Dragon Pulse"
Dragonite fires off Dragon Pulse which connects with Snorlax stomach pushing it back
"Ice Beam"
Dragonite fires off Ice Beam and it completely envelopes Snorlax and freezes it solid leaving only its head exposed
"Snor use Fire Punch to try and melt the ice"
Both of Snorlax fists glow a bright red while in the ice and it starts to steam
"Draco Meteor!"
Dragon fires a yellow and orange ball of energy into the sky and it causes a flurry of energy rocks to fall and pummel Snorlax. As the dust settles it shows the ice is gone but also leaves Snorlax left flat on his face unable to continue
"Snorlax is unable to battle!"
I breath heavily before returning Snorlax to his ball as Eevee looks up at me nervously
"Magneton or Aero, what do you think?" I ask crouching down to Eevee
"Vee….."
"You'll be up last as I think your speed will work best when its tired, what do you think?"
"Vee!" she calls out nodding
"Trainer choose your next Pokemon" The ref calls out
"Magneton" I say throwing out a ball
Magneton emerges on the field bopping up and down
"Use Thunderbolt"
"Flamethrower"
The two attacks collide and as strong as Thunderbolt is the Flamethrower over power and envelopes Magneton who is fried and falls to the ground defeated
The referee calls the victory in what was the quickest battle of the match so far, Dragonite looks almost undamaged from its battles only taking a slight graze from Eevee stored power attack
"Aero you're up" I shout throwing out Aerodactyl's ball
It emerges and steams towards Dragonite before pulling up at the last minute and flying back round to face it
"Stone Edge"
Aerodactyl summons rocks all around it and fires it off at Dragonite as it connects Dragonite winces a little bit
"Thunderbolt"
Dragonite fires off the bolt and Aerodactyl dodge by flying off
"Stone Edge again!"
Aerodactyl dodges another bolt and fires off the flurry of stones again hitting the mark as it speeds about the field
"Dragonite, you gotta get it in close, use Draco Meteor!"
Dragonite fires it off again as Aerodactyl tries to avoid but its pushed in closer to Dragonite
"Aero, one last big hit, Head Smash!"
It glows bright blue and tucks it wings in bombing Dragonite
"Thunderbolt, stop it!"
Dragonite fires off a bolt and it connects but cannot stop Aerodactyl attack as it slams into Dragonite, huge plums of rock and sand is thrown up in the air and once it settles Dragonite is just pulling itself back to its feet while Aerodactyl is out cold on the floor unable to go on
I return him to his ball and thank him for all his efforts, I look up to the box. Mom is clapping away while Kerry shoots me a wry smile. Nan shouts I can't hear her for the noise of the crowd but it looks like words of encouragement. I shoot them a thumbs up before crouching next to Eevee
"All on your then girl again" I say patting her head
She nods up at me
"Wouldn't want it any other way" I say standing up as Eevee rushes out onto the field
"Well then, lets see how this ends"
"Eevee Work Up!"
Eevee envelopes itself in red energy again
"Dragon Pulse"
Dragonite fires off the attack but Eevee manages to deftly dodge away from it
"Work Up again!"
Eevee lights up red this time jumping between rocks in an attempt to get behind Dragonite
"Dragon Pulse"
"Stored Power"
The two attacks collide as Eevee is pushed back into a corner surrounded by rocks
"Full power Dragonite"
Dragonite puts everything it has it the attack and Eevee is only just able to keep it from breaking through, the psychic attack now more of a shield with the energy cascading backwards over itself
"Vee use Mimic!"
Eevee's tail flies up and glows a dark blue acknowledging the copying off Dragon Pulse
"That won't help you now, Finish it up Dragonite"
The pulse continues to push in closer and closer Eevee struggling to keep it up
"Eevee I know you can do it, if anyone can its you"
"VEE!"
The dispersed psychic energy seems to warp and then begin to circle around her before she begins to glow a bright blue before the energy burst out from Eevee kicking up dust and stopping the Dragon Pulse in its tracks
"What happened" I say aloud as the dust begins to settle down
It finally settles and Eevee is gone, standing in its place is a purple cat with a split tail and a bright gleaming red gem on its forehead
"ESPEON!" she calls out at Dragonite who had be force back onto its behind from the blast
"You evolved!" I shout out as Espeon darts back towards me
"Well that is a turn up for the books" Drake says
"No matter must finish this quick, Dragonite Draco Meteor!"
The dragon type stumbles to its feet and fires into the air
"Dragon Pulse!"
Espeon jumps and fires off a huge burst of blue energy from the gem on its head as its slams into Dragonite as the ball of energy bursts in the air
"Stored Power!"
Espeon then fires another beam of white and red energy pummelling the Dragon type who falls back, the meteor then hit and Espeon get ploughed into the ground. Both Pokemon struggle back to their feet giving each other a stare down as they do, both are panting heavily as my mind whirls trying to figure out where to go next. Drake begins to call an attack but Dragonite begins to sway
"Dragonite!"
The huge dragon falls forwards onto its chest and is unable to continue
"Dragonite cannot battle, the winner is Espeon. The match goes to Ryan!" The referee announces
The crowd go in to raptures as Espeon slumps to her stomach exhausted, I run out and pick her up high into the sky
"I knew you would do it!" I say before beginning to cradle her in my arms
"Es" She says softly as she clambers up to my shoulder
"I'll have to get used to this new form Vee, I mean Es" I say stroking her head as Drake now walks up after returning Dragonite
"Congratulations, maybe not a trouncing like your Grandad but certainly as hard of a match up" He says holding his hand out which I take
"Thank you, you too that Dragonite is something else, when it took Magneton out like it did I thought there was no hope"
"Well when you've got someone like this there always a chance" He says stroking the newly evolved Espeon
