Bye Bye Butterfree
Once again, we join our hero Ash on his continuing quest to become a Pokémon Master. With his friends, Brock, Misty, Pikachu, Jovan, July, Anna, Seth, Slade and Dragonair, Ash's next adventure is on the horizon.
"Wow." Ash gasps. "Look at those rocks!"
Everyone stops at the edge of the cliff. Jovan knelt down close to the edge. A small gray stone broke from its resting place and fell into the water. The fall was very long.
"That's some drop." Jovan said.
"Nair." Dragonair agreed.
"Hey Brock." Anna said, turning her head to the right to look at Brock. "Which way do we go next to Saffron City?"
Brock stoods up and takes a look at his map. After looking at the map, he turns around and sees a ridge. "The map says that this ridge leads us to Saffron City." Brock answered.
His friends saw the path. If they take this ridge that leads to Saffron City, they can challenge the Saffron Gym.
"And that's where the Saffron Gym is." Ash smiled with determination as he stood. Then something caught his eye. "What's that?"
Misty notices it too.
"Are those Butterfree?" Anna asked.
"The Butterfree are celebrating their season of love." Brock answers.
"Love?" Misty asked confused.
"Yes." Brock answers as he begins to explain. "The Season Of Love is celebrated when Butterfree lays their eggs. Butterfree finds their mate and lay the eggs across the sea."
"Interesting." July said, looking back at the sea.
"How cute." Misty smiled.
"You mean my Butterfree could go too?" Ash wondered.
"If you don't let it across the sea, it will never have babies." Brock said seriously.
Ash takes out Butterfree's Pokéball. "Babies?!" Ash exclaims.
"What's that over there?" Jovan asked, pointing a finger.
His friends turns around and notices several hot air balloons in a nearby field.
"Let's rent one." Misty suggested.
Everyone agreed and walks over to the nearby field. Brock pays the clerk to rent a hot hair balloon.
"You guys aren't going to rent one?" Ash asks Jovan.
"No." Jovan answers. "I think I'll fly in my Black Dragonite." Jovan transforms into the Black Dragonite and July hops on his back. He flew off into the air to see all the Butterfree with Dragonair.
"Is it alright if we borrow the jeep?" Anna asked, noticing the pink jeep.
"Go right ahead." the clerk smiled.
Jovan flew several feet away, trying not scare the Butterfree. July taps his shoulder once to fly close with Ash, Brock, Pikachu and Misty in their hot air balloon. They all watch as the Butterfree began searching for their mate.
"Free Free!" the Butterfree chirped, founding their mate.
"That's so romantic." July smiled.
"Alright Ash." Brock said, looking at Ash.
"Got it." Ash said, taking out Butterfree's Pokéball. "Go Butterfree!" Ash threw the Pokéball and Butterfree appeared.
"Free!" Butterfree yelled, excited to see its own kind finding a mate.
"Go out there and find your mate!" Ash called.
"Heh heh." Jovan chuckled, watching Butterfree fly over there to find a mate
Butterfree flew over to the first Butterfree. "Free?" Butterfree asked.
"Free." the first Butterfree said, turning its head away.
Butterfree flew over to a second Butterfree. "Free?" Butterfree asked.
"Free." the second Butterfree answered, turning its head away.
Then Butterfree flew over to the third Butterfree. "Free?" Butterfree asked.
"Free." the third Butterfree answered.
Butterfree flew over to the fourth Butterfree, hoping to be its mate. "Free?" Butterfree asked.
"Free." the fourth Butterfree answered, looking away.
Sad for not finding a partner, Butterfree flew back to his friends.
"Looks like none of those Butterfree is its type." Brock said, realizing the situation.
"What do you mean?" Misty asked, turning around to look at him. "The Butterfree looks all the same."
"Some must fly better than others or they have different flight patterns I guess." Brock answers.
"Hm?" July asks, turning around.
Coming into the air was a lot of hot air balloons with different Pokémon Trainers.
"Would you look at that." July gasps.
The trainers threw their Pokéballs in the air and their Butterfree appeared.
"They're all Butterfree Trainers." Brock explains. "They come every year to release their Butterfree."
Jovan notices a red hot air balloon flew next to him. There was a pretty girl with long indigo hair, wearing a yellow/red blouse with a white dress and blue eyes, holding a Pokéball in her hands.
"You find yourself a nice partner, Butterfree." she smiled, staring at the Pokéball. "Go!" She threw her Pokéball in the air and her Butterfree appeared.
"Heh heh!" She chuckled.
Brock's face was turning red, staring at the girl.
"Not this again..." Misty sighs, looking at Brock's face.
Butterfree flew in front of his friends, sad it didn't find a partner.
"Butterfree..." Ash was about to say, but Brock turns his head to Butterfree.
"Listen up, Butterfree!" Brock exclaims. "See that Butterfree that girl just released?!"
Brocks points and Butterfree turns around. Jovan will have to admit Brock has a good eye for spotting the same Butterfree from the same trainer.
"Free?" Butterfree asked confused tilting its head.
"Don't you get it!" Brock shouted. "If two Butterfree fall in love, their trainers will meet and they will fall in love too!"
Misty smacks him in the back of the head hard. "Don't butt in Pokémon love affairs!" Misty growled angrily.
"Misty." Ash smiled, looking at his Butterfree. "If Butterfree doesn't find a mate, it will never have babies."
"Free." Butterfree nodded.
"Go ahead then." Misty smiled.
Butterfree nodded its head and flew back to the other Butterfree. It turns its head, looking for a partner. Then it notices a pink Butterfree.
"Free!" Butterfree exclaims with big heart eyes.
"Hm?" July asked. She watches Butterfree flies over to the pink Butterfree.
"It looks like Butterfree found someone that likes." Misty smiled.
"Yeah." Brock agreed, nodding his head. "Love at first sight with that pink one."
"Free Free." Butterfree said, moving back and forth to the pink Butterfree.
"I think Butterfree is acting weird." Ash said, watching his Butterfree.
"It's Butterfree's Courtship Dance." Brock said.
"Courtship Dance?" Ash asked confused.
"It's Butterfree way of saying "I wanna be your Butterfree"." Brock answered.
"That's so romantic." Misty said, sweetly.
"If it's successful, the other Butterfree dance too." Brock explains.
"Check it out." July said, getting their attention.
The Pink Butterfree flew upward with Butterfree coming behind it.
"Free Free." Butterfree said. But it got slapped across the face. "Free." Butterfree said sadly.
"That has got to hurt." July said as she watches the pink Butterfree fly away from Butterfree.
"Butterfree just got shot down." Brock muttered.
"What?!" Misty gasps. "That is so mean!"
"Free... Free..." Butterfree murmured before turning around and flying down to the forest.
"Butterfree!" Ash called.
"Brock, we'll alert the others and meet you up in the forest." July said.
"Alright." Brock said.
Seth pulled over next to the hot air balloon in the forest. Everyone got out of the jeep.
"There they are." Slade said, pointing to a tree. Butterfree was behind the tree with Ash, Misty, Brock, and Pikachu.
"How come you look so sad, buddy?" Ash asked, kneeling down next to it.
"It was rejected by someone it loved." Brock said, crossing his arms. "It's a terrible shock. Believe me, it's a terrible feeling. I could write a book about the secrets of love and heartache!"
"By the time a publisher publish the first book, it will always lead to trouble." Anna chuckled.
Dragonair watches Pikachu walks up to Butterfree to comfort his friend.
"Pikachu." Pikachu said.
"Free." Butterfree said sadly.
"Pika Pika. Chu?" Pikachu asked.
"Free." Butterfree murmured.
Ash takes out his Pokédex. "Do you think Dexter can be able to tell us how to get that other Butterfree to be its mate?" Ash asked.
"It won't work." Anna said.
"Free..." Butterfree said, looking upset again.
"I don't understand." Ash said. "My Butterfree is great. Why would the other Butterfree reject it?"
"I'm not sure." Jovan answered.
Ash puts his Pokédex away before looking at Butterfree. "Maybe you'll just show off the other Butterfree with your strength to let them see how great you are." Ash said. "Show how powerful your Tackle is. Or how you could use Stun Spore."
"That's right, Butterfree." Misty smiled. "You've got be assertive."
"Free." Butterfree said with interest, looking up at Misty.
"Love is all about attacking your opponents first." Misty said. "Get in a quick punch and surprise them. And while they're still weak, take the lead and you'll beat them hands down. Trust me I know, that's the best way to win."
"You mean it?" Brock asked.
"Sure do." Misty said with a smile on her face. "That's love."
"I wish I known that sooner!" Brock complains.
"Then let's give it another try." Ash said.
"Hold it!" Brock startles them. Brock walks past Misty and knelt down in front of Butterfree. "A new look might help." He takes out a yellow scarf and ties it around Butterfree's neck.
Ash chuckled as looks at Butterfree.
"It looks great." Misty smiled.
"Free!" Butterfree exclaims excitedly. He is feeling more confident.
Half and hour later, Ash, Brock, Misty, Pikachu, Jovan, July, and Dragonair were already up in the air with Butterfree.
"We've got to find it." Ash said, looking through a pair of binoculars. "Its got to be around here somewhere. Where did that pink Butterfree go?"
"This is pretty important to you, isn't it?" Misty asked.
"I've raised Butterfree myself." Ash said, turning his head over his shoulder. "And I'll show them all how great it is."
"Heh." Misty chuckled. "It looks like the trainer is just as passionate as the Butterfree." She puts her hands on her hips.
As he was searching around, the Pink Butterfree was in his sights. "All right." Ash smiled, pulling away from his binoculars. He turns to the side of the basket to look at Butterfree. "Now, Butterfree, this time have confidence in yourself. Go!"
"Pika!" Pikachu exclaims, pointing.
"Free!" Butter shouted. He flew over to the Pink Butterfree, ready this time.
"Butterfree, show it your whirlwind!" Ash commanded.
Butterfree flaps its wings, creating a gust.
"Free." the Pink Butterfree said, turning its head away.
"Now use your Tackle!" Ash commanded. "That should do it!"
Butterfree speds in front of the Pink Butterfree, showing off its Tackle. The Pink Butterfree turns its head away, uninterested. This caused Butterfree to be upset again.
"That's stinks." July muttered.
"Nair." Dragonair said, agreeing with July.
"Nite!" Jovan startled them.
"What is that?!" July shouted pointing to the other side of the hot air balloon.
Flying high in the sky was a black helicopter with the big letter red R in front of it.
"It's Team Rocket!" July gasps.
"Prepare for trouble!"
"Make it double!"
"To protect the world from devastation!"
"To unite all people within our nation!"
"To denounce the evil of truth and love!"
"To extend our reach to the stars above!"
"Jessie!"
"James!"
"Team Rocket blasts off at the speed of light!"
"Surrender now or prepare to fight!"
"Meowth dat's right!"
July can see a long white banner tied at the end of the helicopter with Jessie, Libby, James and Sam's faces on it. Meowth appeared underneath the helicopter, hanging onto the pole.
"Look at all the Butterfree." Jessie chuckled.
"All ours for the taking!" James smirked.
The big Rocket Ball transforms into a net.
"Let's do some networking! Ha ha!" Meowth laughed.
The helicopter flew into the heard of the Butterfree, capturing every single Butterfree.
"They're stealing the Butterfree!" Misty yelled.
"If it isn't those twerps again." James smiled, looking out his window. "No matter where we go, those kids are always in our way."
"But this time, they can't do a thing to stop us." Jessie said, keeping her eye on the Butterfree.
"Free Free!" the Butterfree screams in panic, trying their best to fly away. But every one of them is being caught.
"Knock it off!" Ash yelled.
"Stop or you'll going to ruin their egg laying season!" Brock shouted.
"Can't you see these Butterfree are in love?!" Misty yelled.
"Ha ha!" Jessie chuckled. "We're in love too, little girl, with all the pretty little Pokémon."
James had his arms crossed. "Those Butterfree are free no more." James grinned.
"Nair!" Dragonair growled angrily, looking at Team Rocket with anger in her eyes.
They all started yelling and shouting at Team Rocket, telling them to stop.
"Ha ha ha!" Jessie chuckled. "We're having quite a spree."
"We're swiping all the Butterfree!" Meowth sang.
"There's never been a happier me." James smiled.
Back with the others, Brock was trying his best to make the hot air balloon go faster.
"Can't we speed this thing up so we can catch up?" Ash asked Brock.
"I'm trying, Ash." Brock said, pulling the cord. "But their helicopter is a lot faster than us."
Ash growled in frustration, looking back at Team Rocket. As if things can't get any worse, the pink Butterfree was caught in the net with several other Butterfree. Butterfree became angry and flew down towards the net. The Pink Butterfree was on the side of the net, seeing Butterfree.
"Free Free!" the Pink Butterfree pleaded.
"Free!" Butterfree yelled, assuring it will help them. Butterfree flew up besides the window on the helicopter and began to tackle it.
"Yeah, Butterfree!" Ash cheered. "Use your Tackle attack!"
Jessie notices Butterfree tackling the window. "Ha!" Jessie snickered. "That pathetic little insect thinks it can stop us."
Butterfree was covered in brusies as it was catching its breath.
"Butterfree, Stun Spore now!" Ash ordered.
"Free!" Butterfree nodded its head and flew above the helicopter. Butterfree started flapping its wings, releasing a yellow mist on the helicopter. But the blades of the helicopter repelled the yellow dust.
"What a stunning failure." James mocked it.
"Gr." Ash growled. He took out Pidgeotto's Pokéball . "I guess I'll have to use Pidgeotto then."
"Hold on." Misty said, grabbing Ash's hand. "You can't do that." She lowers his hand. "Just think how Butterfree will feel." Misty looks back Butterfree. "Its trying its hardest out there."
Butterfree was trying its best to stop Team Rocket.
"All right!" Jessie cheered. "What a catch!"
"Let's clear the skyway." Meowth suggested.
Butterfree dodges the helicopter as it makes a getaway.
"Our thanks to all of you to watch Team Rocket and Team Neo's lasted scheme!" Jessie announced on the radio. "We all hope to see you again."
"Next time we steal the show!" James said on the radio.
The hot air balloon began to follow Team Rocket.
"Get back here!" Ash shouted.
Butterfree flew past its friends, in pursuit of Team Rocket with its friends and the Pink Butterfree.
Back on the ground, Seth, Anna and Slade was watching the whole thing from below. The three of them couldn't believe Team Rocket would appear and disrupt the season.
"Punch it!" Slade shouted.
Seth puts his foot down hard and the jeep accelerated. They went over several hills, big and small, trying to catch up. Half an hour passed as they all entered the canyons. Anna looks up, seeing if her friends are still up there.
"Anna, any sign of them?" Slade asks her.
"No." Anna answered shaking her head. "I don't see them."
"We must've lost them." Slade said.
Seth stops the jeep and looks up. He can see Butterfree guiding its friends towards Team Rocket and Team Neo's hideout.
"Found them." Seth smiled.
"Then let's go!"
Meowth chuckled in glee as he was finished counting all the Butterfree. Libby, Sam and Justin was walking down the stairs and past the net. Jessie and James stood in front of the captured Butterfree.
"Just between us, everyone." James spoke. "Isn't it nice that our schemes actually work for once?"
"Feels great." Meowth said.
"I'm glad this scheme didn't fail us like our other plans." Seth said.
"Once the boss hears about this, I'll be the top cat again." Meowth said, closing his eyes. Meowth imagines himself sitting in the boss's lap. His Persian walks away with a sad look on its face. Meowth taunted it.
"Ha ha!" Meowth chuckled.
But the window besides them broke.
"Hey!" Meowth startled. "Somebody is busting in!"
"Who is?" Jessie wondered.
Ash, Brock, Misty and Pikachu landed in front of them with Butterfree. Jovan, July and Dragonair were behind them.
"Prepare for trouble!" Ash said.
"Make it triple!" Misty said.
"To protect the world from devastation!" Brock said
"To unite all people within our nation!" Ash and Misty said together in unison.
"This was..." Jessie said.
"Too good..." James said.
"To last." Meowth said.
"You got that right." Ash smirked.
"Do you guys hear that?" Jovan asked.
July turns around to see a jeep flying right towards them. "Hit the deck!" July shouted. Ash, Brock, Misty and Pikachu dodges to the left as Butterfree and Dragonair flew above them. Jovan and July dodges to the right as the jeep crashes through the wall. Seth, Anna and Slade got out of the jeep as their friends got up.
"We made it." Anna sighed.
Their friends walks up to them.
"We're defending the truth of love." Misty said, facing Team Rocket and Team Neo.
"We've got to stop them!" Meowth shouted.
Burning Battlefield
"This is the one day..." Libby said taking out a hammer.
"The day you'll lose." Sam said, grabbing a wrench.
"Butterfree, go!" Ash shouted.
"Free!" Butterfree yelled, flying towards them.
"Nair!" Dragonair yelled angrily, flying towards Team Neo.
"Go, Starmie!" Misty yelled. She takes out a Pokéball and threw it in the air as her Starmie appeared. "Starmie, Tackle Attack!"
Starmie flew at Team Rocket, chasing them all over the room. During the battle, Butterfree backs away from the net and began to tackle at the net to free the other Butterfree.
"Free!" Butterfree grunted, doing its best break the net.
The Pink Butterfree was amazed how brave Butterfree is. Butterfree tackle the net one more time and the net was broken. It gave the other Butterfree to escape from the net.
"Those Butterfree are getting away!" Meowth shouted, seeing the Butterfree escaping.
Jessie stops running and hits Starmie with a hammer, sending it flying to the wall. Starmie fell to the floor.
"Hang in there, Starmie!" Misty shouted. She sprays some water on it from a water gun and Starmie regains its strength.
Brock pushes the sliding door. "Hurry up!" Brock shouted at the other Butterfree. "Fly away!"
Music Stops
The Butterfree began to escape out the door that Brock opened. Slade chuckled as he watches Team Rocket trying to get the Butterfree, but they keep missing one. Butterfree was catching its breath as it watches the other Butterfree escaping.
Ash ran up to Butterfree and knelt down. "Are you alright Butterfree?" Ash asked, checking Butterfree. Butterfree has a lot of bruises. The Pink Butterfree flew down in front of it and it was about to thank it as James appeared behind it. The Pink Butterfree turns around with its guard down.
"I'll get you!" James smiled with glee.
But Butterfree flew past the Pink Butterfree and tackles James.
"Free..." the Pink Butterfree blushed.
As Brock turns around, he can see Dragonair staring at Team Neo with an angry look in her eyes.
"Get out of the way, you stupid dragon!" Libby hissed at Dragonair.
"Nair!" Dragonair growled angrily. The orb on her neck glows and sends a swirling cyclone towards the trio. The swirling cyclone send Sam, Libby and Justin out of the warehouse.
The helicopter prepares to take off. Jessie and Meowth were in the cockpit.
"We won't let them get away!" Meowth shouted, as James enters the helicopter.
The helicopter lifts up from the ground as the others ran to stop them but it was too late. They all the helicopter fly away.
"Let's not stand around." Jovan said.
Everyone nodded as they went off to chase Team Rocket.
"There's Team Rocket!" Ash shouted, getting everyone's attention.
Several feet in front of them was Team Rocket chasing the flock of Butterfree. Jovan can see the net was out once again.
"They're doing it again!" Ash growled.
"Pikachu!" Pikachu shouted to Butterfree as he turns around to look at Butterfree.
"Free!" Butterfree nodded, flying in front of the basket as Pikachu jumps on its back.
"What are you two going to do?" Ash asked, wondering.
"Pika!" Pikachu yelled.
"Free!" Butterfree shouted as it flew towards the helicopter.
"Free." the Pink Butterfree said with a worried look on its face.
Butterfree flew past the helicopter and turns around to fly right back at it.
"What's that?" Jessie wondered, staring at the window.
"Pika!" Pikachu shouted as he jumps off of Butterfree's back into the air. He lands on the window in front of the confused Team Rocket.
"Huh?" the three of them asked, leaning in to look at Pikachu.
"Ka." Pikachu smirks.
"Its gonna shock us!" all the three of them screamed, scared.
Electricity began to spark on Pikachu's cheeks slowly before going fast. Team Rocket was saying the same words so fast, Pikachu destroyed the helicopter. The blast sent Pikachu flying backwards and landing on Butterfree.
"We were so close this time!" Meowth shouted.
"Looks like Team Rocket is blasting off again!" Jessie screams.
Seth stops the jeep and watches Team Rocket fall down into the abyss and disappeared in the darkness.
"We did it." Ash smiled.
"I hope Team Rocket and Team Neo learns their lesson for disturbing Pokémon Romance." July said.
"Free." Butterfree said happily, flying in front of the basket as Pikachu hops on.
"You did it, Pikachu." Ash said, leaning into Pikachu.
"Pika!" Pikachu said happily, giving out a peace sign.
July notices the Pink Butterfree flew in front of Butterfree. It blushes as it began to dance.
"Free Free." the Pink Butterfree cooed.
"Free." Butterfree gasps.
"Is that what I think it is?" July asked, looking at Brock.
"That's right." Brock smiled. "Now the Pink Butterfree is doing the courtship dance for Ash's Butterfree."
"Good for you, Butterfree." Ash smiled.
They all watch Butterfree and the Pink Butterfree doing the courtship dance in the air.
It was late afternoon by the time everyone came back to the field. Butterfree and the Pink Butterfree stares at Ash, Misty, Brock and Pikachu with a sad look on their faces. Jovan, July, Anna, Seth, Slade and Dragonair stood behind them. The flock of Butterfree was flying slowly towards the sunset.
"Well." Ash said, taking a couple steps forward. "I guess you have to leave us now, don't you?"
"They have to cross the ocean to start their family." Brock said.
"I'll miss you, Butterfree." Misty said sadly.
"It's time." Brock said to Ash.
"I'll say goodbye then." Ash said. He walks up to Butterfree and the Pink Butterfree, kneeling down in front of them. "This is a great Butterfree for me." he said to the Pink Butterfree. "Take good care of it for me."
"Free Free." the Pink Butterfree nodded happily.
"You're babies are going to be beautiful." Misty smiled.
"I guess you better get going." Brock said.
The Pink Butterfree flew high in the air, waiting for its lover.
"Free." Butter said with a sad look on its face, moving a bit closer to Ash.
"Don't worry." Ash assured it. "I'll just tell the other Pokémon you're on a trip and you'll come back someday, maybe."
Hearing those words brought tears to its eye. It can hear the Pink Butterfree calling it.
"You better get going, Butterfree." Ash said, standing up. "Goodbye, Butterfree."
Butterfree flew besides its lover, not taking its eyes off of Ash.
"Bye Bye Butterfree!" Misty called, waving to them.
"Good luck to both of you!" Brock smiled.
July and Anna waved goodbye to the two Butterfree as Jovan nodded his head, saying he'll miss them. Seth and Slade gave Butterfree and the Pink Butterfree the thumbs up as Dragonair waved her tail. Butterfree and the Pink Butterfree turns around and flew off.
Pikachu took a couple steps forward and waved as he looks up. "Pikachu!" Pikachu cried with tears in his eyes.
Ash didn't say a word. He remembers catching it as a Caterpie back in Viridian Forest. It was also his first Pokémon that he caught. Caterpie evolved into Metapod. Metapod evolves into Butterfree to stop the Beedrill. Ash gave it some food back at Mt. Moon. Battling Misty's Staryu for the Cascade Badge. "Butterfree." Ash muttered.
"Hey, Ash." Misty said, walking past. "Butterfree is almost out of sight."
"Huh?" Ash looks fast. He ran towards the edge and call out to it. "Take care, Butterfree!" Ash called with a tear sliding down his cheek. "I'll miss you buddy!"
"Free." Butterfree sobs with tears, looking back at its friends.
"Goodbye Butterfree!" Ash waved. "I'll always remember you! Thanks you for everything! Goodbye Butterfree!"
"Free!" Butterfree cried out one last as the two of them were near the flock.
"Have a good trip, Butterfree!" Ash called. "Take care of yourself! Goodbye Butterfree!"
The flock was almost out of sight. Ash put his arm down. "Be happy, old friend." he said.
Brock places his hand on Ash's left shoulder. "You know, Ash, you raised Butterfree to have a lot of courage." Brock smiled. "And I think you have a lot of courage as well."
Ash turns his head around. "Thanks, Brock." Ash smiled.
Pikachu climbs up onto Ash's shoulder. "Pika." Pikachu said happily, causing Ash to chuckle.
"This is beautiful." Anna said.
"We agree." July smiled, staring at the sunset.
Good friendships last forever, even though friends don't always stay together. Helping Butterfree to grow, Ash might've grown a little himself.
Everyone heard Butterfree's last cry as the flock of Butterfree was out of sight.
