Bulbasaur's Mysterious Garden
Ash and his friends marches onward to the Cinnabar Gym, hoping to win their seventh gym badge, but along the way, other challenges will play an important part along the way.
Jovan and a mountain hiker stood across from one another.
"Go Rhydon!" the mountain hiker shouted, throwing a Poké Ball. The sphere open and a white light was shot out as a Pokémon appeared. It is a large, gray, bipedal Pokémon with features similar to both dinosaurs and rhinoceroses. It has narrow, red eyes and two fangs in its upper jaw. On the tip of the snout is a cream-colored horn, which is smaller. There are several other spikes and projections on its head: on top is a spike that curves forward, two triangular points resembling ears on the sides, a wide, wavy crest under each ear, and spiky ridges on each cheek. It has a cream-colored abdomen divided into strips by thin divots. A rocky plate on its chest slightly overlaps its abdomen. There is a row of spikes down its back, and they have a long tail with thin, black stripes.
"You're up Bulb!" Jovan shouted throwing a Poké Ball and Bulb appeared.
"Take Down, Rhyhorn!"
Rhyhorn begins to charge at Bulb at full speed. The ground shakes each time.
"Bulb, dodge it and use Vine Whip!" Jovan ordered.
But it was too late as Bulb was hit.
"Saur!"
"Whoa!" July gasps.
"It looks like that Rhyhorn is at a high level." Seth said.
Bulb rolls onto his side. He gets up and turns around to face Rhyhorn.
"Time to change tactics." Jovan said, taking out a Poké Ball. "Bulb, return!" To his surprise, Bulb dodges the red energy.
"Bulbasaur!" he shouted, shaking his head.
"Bulb is determined to win the match!" Seth called to Jovan.
Rhyhorn begins to charge at him again.
"Alright, Bulb!" Jovan called to him. "Use Razor Leaf!"
"Bulb!" Bulb shouted, firing his Razor Leaf at Rhyhorn.
The leaves hit Rhyhorn.
"Bulbasaur!" Bulb shouted, using his Vine Whips to spin Ryhorn.
Rhyorn spin for several seconds and fainted.
"We did it!" Jovan smiled.
The mountain hiker walks up to him. "That was a good match, kid." he said. "Your Bulbasaur was great."
"And so was Rhyhorn." Jovan said.
"It's safe to say that your Pokémon are not stubborn." July teases him.
Jovan looks pass the mountain hiker. "Good job, Bulb." Jovan said. But he notices Bulb collapsed. "Bulb, what's wrong?!" Jovan runs up to him with Dragonair.
"Bulbsaur, Bulb." Bulb muttered. His bulb began to glow blue.
"Bulb!" Jovan shouted.
After reaching the Pokémon Center, Jovan and Ash set their Pokémon on the counter.
"Something is wrong with them, Nurse Joy." Jovan said. "I think they're sick."
Nurse Joy looks at the two Bulbasaur carefully. "Hm." she said. Nurse Joy picks up the two Bulbasaur and puts them on the moving table. "I can't make any promises until I examine it." Nurse Joy said to Jovan and Ash. "But I'll do whatever I can."
Before she can leave, Jovan began to groan. "Ngh." Jovan groans.
"Jovan, are you okay?" July asks him.
"I... don't know..." Jovan groaned weakly. He fell backwards and his sister and Anna caught him. They laid him down on the floor and Jovan transformed in his Bulbasaur form. The bulb on Jovan's back was glowing blue.
"Jovan." July said worried as she picks up her brother. "Nurse Joy, can you help him?"
Nurse Joy smiled and nodded. July hands her brother over to the nurse and watches his brother lay down next to the other two. Everyone watches them Nurse Joy follows Chansey with the three of them into the next room. As they walk by, the beautiful red flowers began to bloom.
"Toge Togepi!" Togepi exclaims excitedly.
"What's the matter, Togepi?" Misty asks Togepi. "Is something wrong? Huh?" She notices the red flowers blooming. The red flowers are beautiful.
Everyone stood outside of the ER and was looking through the window. Jovan and the two Bulbasaur rested inside the ER as Nurse Joy and Chansey check the monitor. July places her hand on the window, worried for her brother.
"It's happening." Nurse Joy said, looking at the three patients. "Now, I'm positive." She looks over at Jovan.
The ER lights went off, causing everyone to look at Nurse Joy as she exits the room.
"Joy, is my Bulbasaur going to be okay?" Ash asks her.
"You don't have to worry about your Bulbasaur, Ash." Nurse Joy answers him with a smile. "It isn't sick at all. They're all going to be ready to evolve."
"That's amazing." July smiled.
"Jovan and the Bulbasaur was strong because they've trained hard." Seth said.
"When Bulbasaur evolves, it'll evolve into Ivysaur, right?" Misty wondered.
"Right." Ash answered as he looks at Nurse Joy. "How long will it take for the big evolve-o-rama?"
"Let me see." Joy said, walking by Ash up to the window.
The flowers outside began to bloom.
"Wow." Misty gasps in delight. "Just like last time."
"What do you mean?" Brock asks her, looking at Misty.
"When they brought Jovan and Bulbasaur, I saw a vase of flowers burst into bloom." Misty answered.
Everyone gasps as they saw the flowers bloom and sparkle.
"The flowers are sparkling." Ash smiled.
"Nair."
"They say that at a certain time of the year, Bulbasaur gather together from all over the world for the festival where they evolve." Joy explains. "No one knows why they choose that time. It's different every year, but it seems to have something to do with the alignment of the planets and the phases of the moon."
"It's beautiful." Misty said.
"Looks like we made it just in time for the festival." Brock said.
"Do you know where the Bulbasaur evolve?" Anna asks Joy.
"Have you heard of the Mysterious Garden?" Nurse Joy asks them.
"The Mysterious Garden?" Seth asked.
"Yes." Nurse Joy nodded. "But since no human being has ever seen the garden clearly. Most people think it's nothing but an illusion."
"The flowers that we're looking at are sparkling and that's not an illusion." Anna said, looking at the flowers. "The Mysterious Garden must be someplace out there."
"The Mysterious Garden." Ash smiled. "I want to see that. How about you, Pikachu? Wanna see it?"
"Pika, pika." Pikachu answered.
The two Bulbasaur were awake, listening to the conversation. As Bulbsaur was staring out the window, Bulb was looking at Jovan. He sighs.
Nurse Joy gave everyone two rooms to sleep in. As everyone was sleeping, Bulbasaur and Bulb was walking down the hallway silently. The two of them exits out of the Pokémon Center and sits down a small hill, watching the flowers and the moon.
"Bulbsaur." Bulbsaur said.
Pikachu joins the two. "Pika?" Pikachu asks him. "Pika, Pika, Pikachu. Pika."
"Bul, Bulbasaur." Bulbasaur answered. "Bulba Bulbasaur."
"Pika Pika." Pikachu pats Bulbsaur.
"Bul, Bulbasaur Saur."" Bulbasaur thanks Pikachu.
"Pika." Pikachu nodded.
"Bulba." Bulbasaur said, looking up at the moon.
All of sudden several dark vines wraps around Bulbasaur and Bulb's legs.
"Bulba!" Bulb growled, trying to move his legs.
"Pika!" Pikachu gasps as Bulbasaur and Bulb were dragged in the air above several Bulbasaur.
The wild Bulbasaur began to run away with the other two.
"Pikachu!" Pikachu shouted, running after them
Before they can advance any further, several Razor Leaf landed in front of them, causing them to stop. Standing several feet in front of them was Jovan.
"Bulba Bulb Saur!" Jovan yells at the wild Bulbasaur. He attempts to save Bulbasaur and Bulb but the wild Bulbasaur caught him too.
The chase resumes again.
"Pika!" Pikachu shouted, getting ready to attack.
"Bulba!" Bulbasaur shouted, stopping Pikachu in his tracks. "Bulba Bulbasaur! Bulba Bulba Bulb!"
Pikachu turns around and heads back inside the Pokémon Center.
The others were still asleep. July was tossing and turning in her sleep. She was really worried for her brother. While she was thinking, July heard yelling across the hall. July turns over and fell flat on her stomach, causing to wake the others.
"July, why are you on the floor?" Anna asks her tiredly.
"I heard yelling from across the hall." July answered as she stood up and exits the room. She sees others running down the hall. "Ash, what's going on?"
"Something happened to Bulbasaur, Bulb and Jovan!"
"What?!" she gasps in fear. July follows them down the hall and into the Emergency Room. When they got there, their three friends weren't there.
"They're not in there!" Ash looks into the room. "Pikachu, do you know where they are?"
"Pika!" Pikachu nodded.
Meanwhile, Team Rocket and Team Neo were in the forest.
"I say it feels like we're walking in a magical forest." Libby smiled.
"What's with this sparkly stuff?" James wondered, feeling a sneeze.
"Maybe some healing dust." Justin suggested. "That way I can blow some of that in your face to sleep so we don't have to listen to your complains."
"Good one, Justin." Meowth said.
"There's nothing to do but catch Pikachu." Libby smiled.
As they were walking, they turned their heads to the right and notices Jovan, Bulb, Bulbasaur and the Wild Bulbasaur, starring at them.
"Would you look at that." Libby smiles with big eyes.
"Nothing will stop us now" Sam said with a determine look.
"And they're all ours!" Team Rocket and Team Neo yelled as they tried to catch them.
The wild Bulbasaur used Vine Whip to send them flying into the air.
"Looks like Team Rocket is blasting off again!"
The trainers stops in the middle of the forest.
"Which way, Pikachu?" Ash asks him.
Pikachu sniffs the ground and picks up the scent. "Pika!" Pikachu exclaims, following the scent.
"Come on!" Seth exclaims as they all follow Pikachu.
Team Rocket and Team Neo hits the ground, creating a hole in the ground.
"We're... not going to... draw the line..." Justin moans.
"We have to follow this stream of pollen!" Seth yelled.
"That should lead us to Bulbasaur, Bulb and Jovan!" Ash shouted.
"And the Mysterious Garden!" July added.
While they were running, several vines were going after them.
"This forest is going crazy!" Seth shouted.
"Look!" Slade yelled. The vines was about to create a wall. "Those vines are going to block us out!"
"Then we'll just dive through before that happens!" July yelled, determine to go through.
"Dive!" Ash shouted.
Everyone dives through the vines just in time before the vines block the way, acting like a wall.
"That was close." July said as the boys stood up.
"I'm beginning to understand why no one has seen the Mysterious Garden before." Slade said.
"And since we can't go back, we need to head to the Mysterious Garden." Anna said.
"Pika!" Pikachu shouted.
"Nair!" Dragonair yelled, getting their attention.
Everyone rushes to the two Pokémon.
"What is it, Pikachu?" Ash asks him.
Everyone notices a valley down the hill. There was a large tree with no leaves and a tree stump. In the middle of the valley was a bunch of Bulbasaur.
"So this is the Mysterious Garden." Ash said.
The Bulbasaur began to sing as the pollen flow through the air. The big tree began to grow with new leaves on the branches. Flowers began to bloom all around the wild Bulbasaur.
"Check it out!" Seth smiled.
"That's neat." Ash smiled.
But the trainers heard heavy stomping coming from inside tree.
"What's that banging sound?" Ash wondered.
A big squat, quadrupedal Pokémon with bumpy, blue-green skin stomps over to the tree stump. It has small, circular red eyes; a short, blunt snout; and a wide mouth with two pointed teeth in the upper jaw and four in the lower jaw. On top of its head are small, pointed ears with reddish pink insides. It has three clawed toes on each foot. The bud on its back has bloomed into a large pink, white-spotted flower. The flower is supported by a thick, brown trunk surrounded by green fronds.
"Saur!"
"Look you guys!" Ash cried. "A Venusaur!"
"Whoa!" Slade gasps.
Everyone took out their Pokédex.
"Venusaur, the final form of the Bulbasaur evolution. This Seed Pokémon soaks up the sun's rays as a source of energy."
"That behavior sounds like a plant to me." Seth said.
July looks down at all of the Bulbasaur. "I can't see Jovan down there." July said.
"Don't worry, July." Slade assured her. "He'll be right next to Bulbasaur with the bandage on his head and Bulb."
"Pika!" Pikachu cried, getting everyone's attention.
They look down and notice Bulbasaur, Bulb and Jovan.
"Over here, Bulba-" Ash was calling out to the three of them, but Brock quickly covered Ash's mouth with his hand.
"Hey, don't forget." Brock lowers his voice to him. "Human beings aren't supposed to be here." He removes his hand.
"Oh, right."
"Then let's watch the festival." Anna smiled.
"Saur!" Venusaur cried.
"Saur!" the wild Bulbasaur cried.
"Saur!"
"Saur!"
"Saur!"
"Saur!"
Ash's Bulbasaur sighs, looking at the ground. Jovan didn't say anything as he looks at Bulb.
"Saur!"
"Saur!"
All the wild Bulbasaur began to glow.
Meanwhile Team Rocket and Team Neo stood before the wall of vines that was blocking the way.
"Do we have an idea to get in here?" Libby wondered.
"Meowth can scratch it." Sam suggested.
"I just filed them." Meowth said annoyed to Sam.
Team Rocket and Team Neo takes out some gardening tools.
"Look out!" Justin shouted, taking out a giant pair of scissors. "Time to cut you out!"
The vines attacked them that sent them flying several feet.
"Is that all?" Sam taunted the vines. "I was number one at the Cutting Vine Contest!"
Then all the vines attacked again, making them run for their lives.
"You placed last, you idiot!" Libby cried.
Back at the festival, the wild Bulbasaur evolved into a new Pokémon that has blue-green skin with darker patches. On top of its head are pointed ears with black insides and it has narrow red eyes. Ivysaur has a short, rounded snout with a wide mouth and two pointed teeth in its upper jaw. Each of its feet has three claws on them. The bulb on its back has bloomed into a large pink bud. A short brown trunk surrounded by leafy green fronds supports the bud.
"Ivysaur."
"Check it out." July said, looking at the Poké Dex.
"The Seed Pokémon, Ivysaur, Bulbasaur's evolved form. The bulb on its back absorbs nourishment and blooms into a large flower."
"Saur!" Venusaur cried.
"Saur!" The Wild Ivysaur cried.
"Looks like this turns out to be a Evolution Festival." Anna said.
"For a long time, people have disagreed if Bulbasaur is a animal type or a plant type." Brock explains, watching the festival. "If plants or animal never existed, life wouldn't go on."
"They need each to live and grow." Misty said.
"Nair." Dragonair smiled.
"Maybe the Bulbasaur are a sign on earth that life is connected." Brock continued.
"I wonder if Bulbasaur, Bulb and Jovan are going to evolve." Ash wondered. He turns his head to the left and gasps, making the others turn around to look at their three friends.
"They're not evolving." Misty said.
Bulbasaur was doing his best not to evolve. But Bulb was doing the same thing too, but he was shaking his head. Jovan, however, was trying his best not to evolve too.
"But why?" Anna wondered.
"They're all trying to evolve." Brock stated.
"Pika." Pikachu said.
Venusaur notice the three of them not evolving. "Venusaur!" it shouted. "Saur Venu!"
"Bulba?" Bulbasaur gasps as Venusaur and the wild Ivysaur looks at them.
"Venusaur. Saur Benu"
"Bulba Bulbasaur."
"Venusaur Venu!"
"Bulbasaur Bulba!" Bulbasaur shouted, shaking his head. "Bulba Saur Saur!"
"Venusaur! Venuasaur!" Venusaur shouted angrily.
"Ivysaur!" the wild Ivysaur yelled at the three Bulbasaur.
Jovan stood besides Bulb glaring at the others. "Bulba Bulba Saur!"
"Venusaur?!" Venusaur gasps.
"Bulba Saur Bulb Saur!" Jovan yelled. He looks at Bulb. "Bulbasaur Bulba. Saur Bulbasaur!" Jovan looks back at Venusaur. "Bulba Bulbasaur!"
"The others are getting angry." Misty said.
"I wonder why." Ash wondered. He was concerned.
"Bulbasaur is stubborn as you." Slade said to Ash.
"Venusaur!" Venusaur shouted, several dark green vines came out from underneath the leaves and was about to attack them.
"Bulba!" Bulbasaur gasps.
"No!" July yelled as she and Dragonair follows Ash and Pikachu with Dragonair. "Don't hurt them!"
The vines were halfway there as Jovan ran a couple feet in front of Bulbasaur and Bulb. Jovan used his Vine Whip to try and stop the vines, but July got to his side and covered him as she took the vines.
"BULBA?!" Jovan shouted in terror.
"Bulb!" Bulb gasps.
"Dragonair!" Dragonair gasps.
July stands up and shakes her shoulders as her brother looks at her.
"July, are you okay?" Slade asks her.
"Venusaur!" Venusaur yells at them.
"Ivysaur!" the wild Ivysaur growls at them.
Seth looks at the wild Pokémon. "Something tells me they're too thrilled to see humans here."
"Venusaur." Venusaur spoke to them.
"We're sorry that we broke into your festival." July apologies to Venusaur.
"But the three Bulbasaur here that you're angry at is our friends." Ash explains. "And one of them is a human too."
Jovan transforms back into his human, shocking the wild Pokémon.
"The reason why you're mad is because we don't want to evolve, right?" Jovan asks it.
The wild Ivysaur nodded their heads.
"You probably feel that they ruined your festival and I'm really sorry about that." Jovan said. "But if Bulbasaur, Bulb and I don't want to evolve, then you don't have the right to force us to evolve."
"Venusaur!" Venusaur shouted, firing pollen from its plant to the tree.
Everyone watches in amazement as the leaves appeared.
"They're manipulating nature." Brock said.
"If those three can evolve, they can have that kind of power." Misty smiled.
As Jovan was looking at the tree, July gave her brother a hug.
"Jovan, I was so worried about you." July said as she hugs her brother.
"I'm fine, July." Jovan let's go of July. "And what about you? Are you okay?"
"It's nothing." July smiles at him.
Jovan smiles and walks up to Bulb and kneels down. "Bulb?" He asks him. "I won't force you to evolve because you're my friend. The choice is yours to evolve or not evolve and I will respect your decision."
"Bulb." Bulb smiled.
Jovan turns around and faces Venusaur and the wild Ivysaur. "Now look, you can't force Bulb and Bulbasaur to evolve. They have the right to decide whether they want to or not."
"The pest is right!"
Everyone looks up at the sky.
"You need to make your own path!"
"And when our path is blocked to the Mysterious Garden..."
"We decided to rise above it all."
"That's why we provided our own air."
"Oh brother." Jovan groans, noticing the Meowth Balloon. "Now we have to prepare for their trouble."
"Prepare for trouble!"
"Make it double!"
"To protect the world from devastation!"
"To unite all peoples within our nation!"
"To denounce the evils of truth and love!"
"To extend our reach to the stars above!"
"Jessie!"
"James!"
"Team Rocket blasts off at the speed of light!"
"Surrender now or prepare to fight!"
Jessie and James were wearing some garden outfits.
"Will you two hurry up?!" Justin snaps at them. "Turn the machine on!"
"You know they need the motto for their fans." Libby said to him.
"Time to get started." Sam said, pushing a button.
The bottom basket opened and revealed a giant vacuum.
"I have a bad feeling about this." Anna said.
"Do it, James!" Libby ordered.
"Suction on!" James cheered, pressing a button on a remote.
The hose opens up and begins sucking up the wild Ivysaur.
"Hang on!" July yells to her friends.
Team Rocket and Team Neo watches the Ivysaur being sucked up.
"Nice to see this plan is working." Sam smiled.
"Suck-cess!" Meowth joked.
The bag began to fill up.
As the wild Ivysaur was being lifted, Venusaur used Vine Whip to catch the others.
"How cute." Libby smirks down below.
"Full power!" Meowth cheered.
"Aye aye!" James nodded, pushing another button.
The suction became more powerful.
"Venu!" Venusaur grunted, feeling its front legs being lifted. "Saur!"
"Pikachu!" Ash cried, looking down at Pikachu hanging on his pants. "Use your Thunder to bring them down!"
"Pi!" Pikachu jumps on to the ground and was about to attack.
"No!" Misty interrupted. "The Thunder will hurt the Ivysaur that Team Rocket captured."
"Then what do we do?!" Slade shouted.
Jovan notices that Pikachu was being lifted in the air as well. Bulbasaur uses Vine Whip to catch Pikachu and brought him to Ash.
"Thanks, Bulbasaur." Ash thanks Bulbasaur.
"Bulb, use your Razor Leaf to cut the air out of their balloon!" Jovan ordered.
Bulbasaur and Bulb both fired a tornado of leaves to the balloon, but the leaves went in different directions.
"No way!" Jovan gasps.
"Venu!" Venusaur shouted.
Sam looks down below and notices the two Bulbasaur. "Let's capture those two Bulbasaur!"
"Why should we?!" Libby laughed with Jessie, Libby and Meowth. "They can keep those two runts!"
Jovan, Bulbasaur and Bulb heard that comment.
"What?!" Jovan growled.
"So pathetic!" Justin taunted.
"You can keep the runts!" Sam calls down below.
Jovan transforms back into his Bulbasaur form.
"Bulba!" Bulbasaur shouted. "Bulbasaur!"
Bulbasaur, Jovan and Bulb ran past their friends. The sun began to rise into the sky. Everyone watch Bulbasaur, Jovan and Bulb gathering light in their bulb, which starts to glow yellow.
"What's that?" July wondered, taking out her Poké Dex.
"Solar Beam, Bulbasaur's strongest attack. Light is collected and it is formed into a powerful beam with intensive force."
"That sounds awesome!" July smiled.
"Bulba?!" Jovan calls out Bulbasaur and Bulb.
"Bulba!" they both nodded.
"Bulba Bulba Bulba Bulba Bulba Bulba!" the three of the of them cried.
They all fire a blue beam of energy from their bulb at the vacuum, releasing the bag. Team Rocket and Team Neo screams as the vacuum and balloon was destroyed.
"Whoa!" July gasps.
"Bulba!" Bulbasaur and Bulb fires their Razor Leaf to cut the bag open.
All the wild Ivysaur landed on their feet.
The basket landed in front of Venusaur and Ivysaur.
"Ivysaur!" the wild Ivysaur growls at them.
Team Rocket and Team Neo were scared.
"Venusaur!" Venusaur growled.
Team Rocket and Team Neo turns around to see it pretty angry.
"Bulba." Jovan smirks.
"Things are already bad!" Sam cried.
"Well, it's about to get worse!" Justin cried in fear.
Venusaur, the wild Ivysaur, Bulbasaur, Jovan and Bulb used their Vine Whips to hit Team Rocket and Team Neo that sent them flying high into air.
"Looks like Team Rocket is blasting off again!"
Jovan transforms back into his human and turns around to face his friends.
"That was amazing Jovan." July smiled.
"I can't take all the credit." Jovan chuckled, rubbing the back of his head. "Bulbasaur and Bulb were pretty amazing too." He heard a heavy footstep and turns around to see Venusaur and the wild Ivysaur looking at them. July stood in front of her brother, glaring at the wild Pokémon.
Venusaur extended its vines toward Blbasaur, Bulb and... Jovan!
"What?" Jovan gasps as July steps aside.
"Venusaur." Venusaur smiled, thanking them.
Jovan chuckled as he transforms into his Bulbasaur form and shook vines with the three of them.
"It looks like Venusaur finally understands." Misty smiled.
"Looks that way." Seth smiled.
"Dragonnair." Dragonair agreed.
Everyone watches the wall of vines created a path back for them. They all turn around and see Venusaur and the wild Ivysaur watching them.
"The Mysterious Garden." Ash said.
"When the Evolution Festival is over, it disappears." Anna said.
"I'm happy we saw the festival in time to see it." Seth added.
"Goodbye Venusaur and Ivysaur!" Ash called, waving at them.
Venusaur and Ivysaur turns around and walks away.
"I hope we meet again!" Anna called out to them.
"See you later!" Brock called.
Dragonair and Bulb looks at each other and nodded.
And so, Ash and his friends leave the Mysterious Garden. No one knows when or if Bulbasaur, Bulb and Jovan will finally decide to evolve. No one knows but them.
Before they can leave, Jovan knelt down next to Bulb and stares at him. "That triple Solar Beam we did back there was amazing." he said to him.
"Bulba." Bulb agreed.
"If we ever run into that armored creature, I know we'll defeat it." Jovan smiled.
"All of you have been training good." Slade said.
"Bulbasaur." Bulbasaur agreed.
