"Come on then," Joanne smiled. "Let's get this party started!" Danielle was shocked when Michael guided her to Adam's side, and it was the DV worker who took her arm to guide her to the meeting room. It was 5 minutes to 6 and Danielle and Joanne had gone back to Danielle and Michael's room to find Michael, Rick, Jack and Adam waiting for them. Now, they were heading for the conference room together.

"Thank you," Danielle said, pausing just for a second. "Thank you, Adam." Everyone applauded again.

"You're welcome, Danielle."

As they walked, she briefly told him what buttons Dr Loomis was referring to and the meetings they'd had there previously.

Adam squeezed her arm. "That sounds like fun!"

"Rick and I attended Derek Chancer's execution together," she said. "We had a briefing in there about it afterwards." She heard Rick's happy little whistle and smiled.

"Indeed, we did," her friend confirmed, taking her other arm so she was being guided by both men. "Michael's right behind us," Rick said.

"Mr. Hughes," Danielle said automatically, and Hughes squeezed her arm but said nothing. Obviously, he knew it would take time for her to use his name both all the time and automatically. "Um…" she was blushing again she realised.

"I know what she's going to ask you," Rick and Joanne said together.

"Oh, so do I," Jack chuckled as did Michael a second later, clearly having twigged too.

"Oh God," she felt her face grow even warmer. "Mr. Hughes, um can you whistle?"

"Can I whistle, eh?" Hughes smiled, squeezing her arm again. "Hmm, let's see." Next second, the DV worker started whistling. Rick joined in with him. "Yup," Adam said, now squeezing her hand. "It appears I can indeed whistle, Danielle."

Danielle was still blushing. "Did someone mention that to you?"

"Ah, now how could I possibly give away who my sources are?" He chuckled. "Yes, Danielle I'll be honest with you, Dr Stark did. But I wanted to keep it as a surprise for when you were able to use my name. So…" he whistled for about another thirty seconds, and she couldn't stop grinning. Joanne and Rick looked at each other than at Jack before they all turned to Michael. All three were close to tears, and they saw softness in Michael's eyes. "That's for saying my name so many times," Adam said eventually. "You go Danielle! Have another fiddle with these too!" He stopped and lowered his head, so Danielle felt his ears again. She turned even redder if that was possible.

"We won't need the kitchens to make our food at this rate," Dr Loomis' voice said as they reached meeting room two. "We'll be able to cook it on your face if it gets any warmer or redder, Danielle!" Everyone laughed, as Adam guided Danielle to the now familiar doors, and she pressed on the door open button. Even though it was a different room, it appeared the layouts were the same.

They entered and Adam immediately guided Danielle to a double leather seat, just like the one she'd previously sat in. She felt a rush of affection for Dr Loomis, knowing he'd arranged this too. Michael sat at her side once more and slid his arm around her. She snuggled her head into his shoulder. Everyone took their seats around the huge table, as Danielle closed the doors and turned on the 'meeting in progress' sign.

"Getting good at this now, aren't you?" Dr Loomis chuckled. She grinned back at him.

"I hope you guys don't mind," she began. "But I need to tell you all something?"

"WHAT?" Joanne shouted from the very back of the room. "I CAN'T HEAR YOU! MY EARS ARE TOO SMALL AFTER ALL! TURN THE DAMN MICROPHONES ON CAN'T YOU? THAT'S WHAT THEY'RE THERE FOR!"

This time affection briefly choked her throat, because she knew her guard and friend had done this on purpose. Reaching forward, she took Michael's finger, so he hit the microphone button. The chime sounded.

"Why would we mind?" Dr Stark asked. "This is your party, Danielle."

"Here, here," everyone said together, as Michael squeezed her close. She blushed sheepishly, knowing she'd been put in her place. She started speaking her voice echoing through the speakers for Joanne's… fake she was sure, benefit.

"Dr Loomis, have you been told about my visitor this morning?"

"Yes," Dr Loomis confirmed. Dr Stark told me at the same time she told Adam."

"Well as you doctors know; I asked you Dr Loomis if I could borrow the iPod device the late Mr. Chancer had used." Laughing, Joanne returned to her seat and Michael deactivated the microphones. Danielle smiled at them.

"Did you?" Rick asked in surprise. "Shit! Please tell me you knew the password and didn't wrongly input it Three times?"

Danielle smiled at her friend. "That's exactly what I said. Please tell me you know the password?" Rick squeezed her hand affectionately.

Dr Loomis nodded. "That was fine, no worries, I had it written down." He smiled at his guard. "Think about it, if I hadn't, I wouldn't be talking to you now!"

Rick blushed. "Fair point."

"What on earth did you do that for?" Jack asked, also sounding incredulous.

"Because I needed to contact Chris Leach," Danielle explained. "I didn't have any other way to do it. To be fair he didn't want me using the iPod either for the same reasons as you two," she smiled affectionately at the two guards. "So, he texted me his cell number and I called him back."

"Ok," Rick said. "What was the result and content of that conversation?"

"Well Miss Wordsworth if you please," Joanne snickered. Danielle pulled a disgusted face. "Said that it wasn't the DASC's fault if the monitoring app wasn't working. That because they are remote to the DASC, they are not responsible for it."

"That's bullshit!" Rick and Jack exclaimed together.

"I know for a fact the DASC are meant to work with that company country wide and test the equipment every 24 hours! That's a total lie! How is she a CEO?" Jack sounded furious. Danielle smiled at her friend.

"That was one of the reasons I called Chris. I wanted to know if his gang had done something to mess with the monitoring app, so it was legitimately not working. He stated they would never have touched that, no matter how much Dawson paid or begged them. Said it was too dangerous. To be fair, he was furious about this whole Wordsworth thing too."

"Do you believe him?" Rick asked.

"After what he did for me in both the house and for us Rick at the airport," Danielle said, turning and reaching for Rick's hand. "Yes, I do. I truly think he's sorry for his actions and I don't think he would've lied to me."

Rick squeezed her hand. "Ok."

"You don't believe him?" Danielle asked.

Rick squeezed her hand again and did not release it as he thought. "Well," he said slowly after a moment. "Normally I'd say no way straight off the bat, but… shit! I can see why you do; he did indeed help you, then us at the airport."

"He said he was speaking from a 'criminals' perspective' when he said it would be too dangerous to fiddle with that. I can understand why that might be the case."

"Hmm," Jack said thoughtfully this time. "Ok, guess I'll give him that, the benefit of the doubt. He does seem to be genuinely sorry about the part he played. I suppose he never actually did anything, he just…"

"Signed on the dotted line," Danielle smiled grimly. "Gave the orders. He told me himself today that he'd been a 'sexist bastard who only cared about his wallet and his dick.'"

"Well fair enough then," Jack said. "If he admitted that I'll back off."

"He sounded close to tears when he told me he was so sorry for the part he played in this. That Michael had given him a second chance and he didn't want to waste it. He didn't use Michael's name, but I read between the lines."

"That was quick and good thinking on your part," Dr Stark said. "If anyone would know if it was sabotaged it would be Chris Leach."

"That was my thinking too," Danielle nodded to her doctor. "He wants to meet me for a coffee when I get back to Haddonfield and told me if I needed anything to call him." She did not add what Leach had said about Michael being a "Lucky man," however. She'd keep that between her and Joanne.

Dr Loomis touched his earpiece then spoke. "Danielle, I agree that was quick and good thinking. Literally, a good call. When you're ready, press the call bell for our food."

She smiled. "Ok, thanks." Everyone smiled affectionately as she took Michael's finger and placed it on the call bell, so it was Michael who pressed it.

"Thanks Michael," Jack said. "I'm starving!" Everyone chuckled.

"So am I," Danielle agreed.

"Will you meet up with him do you think?" Adam asked. "Leach?"

"Maybe," Danielle said. "I think he really means everything he's said. He also wants to meet you properly too, Michael."

About a minute later the doorbell rang. Danielle opened the doors. "Hi, it's Tony and Anne here with your party snacks. Sandwiches, sausage rolls, pringles, mini pies, small sausages, chicken strips and quiche. Then you have twinkies, chocolate cake and apple pie and custard as a hot dessert. Tea, coffee and apple juice to drink."

"Wow!" Danielle was astonished. "Thanks!"

"Talk about a feast," Adam said.

Anne and Tony parked the buffet cart against the wall where the breakfast one had been in the other meeting room, before placing a stack of paper plates, napkins and paper cups on the table.

"That to save you washing up afterwards?" Danielle smiled at them. "Good thinking!"

The kitchen staff laughed. "Enjoy," Anne said cheerfully as they left. Danielle put the sign back on outside.

"We won't be hungry after all that," Rick said. "Danielle, what would you like?"

She asked him for some of all savouries and he filled her a plate. "To drink?" He asked.

"I'll take some apple juice, thanks. Also, please may I have some water from the machine? I meant to ask last time and forgot."

"Yeah, you just love your gadgets! I'll do you one better than that," Rick said. Setting her drink in front of her, he took her hand and guided her over to the water machine.

"How do I get a cup?" She asked.

Rick chuckled. "Press this button here." He showed her a button next to the water paddles. She pressed it and a cup zoomed out of the machine and into the filling slot with an electronic whirr.

"That is so cool," Danielle beamed. "Is that so cups aren't wasted?"

"I assume so," Rick smiled at her genuine delight. So, now, you push the paddles. This left one is ice, middle is normal temperature and right is cold. This other button here is the safety lock."

Carefully, Danielle pushed the left paddle until ice fell into the cup with a gentle pattering sound. Then she pushed the right one. "Stop," Rick said a few seconds later. She did and gently retrieved her cup of iced water. Rick took it from her and carried it back to her seat for her as he guided her. "Thanks," she smiled at him. "Now I know there's ice, please could I have some in my apple juice?"

"Certainly." Rick took her juice and added ice to it.

Meanwhile, the others had all moved to get their own food and drink.

Danielle never wanted this party to end. She couldn't believe how happy she felt. She was in a room full of most of her closest friends and the man she loved, not to mention a genuinely nice DV worker who'd done more for her than she could ever tell him, and who'd earned her trust and respect. Of course, she wished Charlotte and Nigel could be there plus the rest of her family, but for now she knew why they couldn't. She'd spoken to Nigel just that morning as she'd done every day since he'd left. He'd reported no change in Charlotte's condition, which she'd told the doctors.

"By the way," she said, following her own train of thought. "I spoke to Nigel this morning guys and there's still no change in Charlotte's condition yet."

The two doctors, Rick, Michael, Jack and Joanne nodded sadly. "How is Nigel and the rest of your family?" Jack asked.

"Nigel's fine thanks, moms exhausted he said, but there's no way she's leaving Charlotte's bedside. They managed to persuade her that once, but good luck doing it again."

"Nigel actually messaged me on days off," Rick said. "He wanted to say hi and see how we were doing."

"That's Nigel for you," Danielle said affectionately. "I told you he cares about everyone he knows."

"He gave me his number before we attended that day," Rick said. She nodded and smiled.

"Sorry," she turned to Adam, knowing the DV worker would not have a clue what they were talking about. "It's a long story."

"Then if you want to tell me I'm all ears," Hughes chuckled. "Ears, ears, ears!"

Danielle found herself giggling. "Thanks," she smiled at him. She gave him a brief version of the events which had brought her to Smith's Grove, then about being adopted and what Dawson had done to Charlotte.

Adam whistled softly. "Jesus. I'm so sorry."

"Thanks," she smiled at him again. "But my sister, Charlotte Avery, is a fighter. You watch." Adam squeezed her arm.

Danielle to her surprise found herself telling him all about Adam's horrific abuse, resulting in her attempted suicide, then his kidnap of her from Haddonfield Memorial hospital after Charlotte's hit and run.

Hughes whistled and she just knew he was angry. "Christ if you hadn't ordered me not to change my name, I think I would," he said furiously. "What a son of a bitch!"

"Understatement of the year," she chuckled. "But then I don't think there is a word strong enough to describe him. As for changing your name, don't you dare even think about it!" She stood up and raised her shirt, showing Hughes the scars across her back and chest. This gesture surprised even her. She hadn't expected she'd ever show him these.

"Holy fuck," Hughes sounded horrified. The others in the room all drew in breath. "I'm so sorry, Danielle."

"Well, at least one is unable to abuse another without the use or even ownership of one's head," Danielle said as she sat down again. She could tell that just for a second Hughes didn't understand, then he took a sharp intake of breath and looked at Michael. Danielle didn't of course see all 6 of the others nod to him.

"Nice one Michael," Hughes said approvingly. "He sounds like he deserved that and more. Too bad you could only cut it off once."

Danielle smiled bitterly. "I told him just before it happened that the only thing, I'd miss about him were his ears." Hughes laughed at this. "Nice!"

"Mr. Hughes," she hesitated, then turned to Joanne who was sitting next to her. "Is it ok if you and Mr. Hughes swap seats?"

Immediately Joanne stood up as did Hughes, who came to sit on her right.

"Yes Danielle?" Hughes said once he was seated. Still hesitantly, she once again reached out for his hand, which Hughes took and squeezed.

"Um, this is almost like… a physical lifeline if you like, for now I feel like I can't say… this, without doing this. It's almost like I have your… permission. Now I know that's what you're trying to change, but…"

"Hey," Hughes squeezed her hand, cutting her off. "You took a huge step today actually being able to say my name, not once but several times, so if you need to hold my hand for a while as comfort and me saying you can, then so be it! I can work with that for as long as it takes. But you will always be able to say my name, you don't need anyone's permission."

"Well said!" Dr Stark and Dr Loomis said together.

"Yeah," Jack agreed. "Nice one, Adam."

"You, see?" Hughes said. "Everyone is with me on this, Michael just nodded. So how can I help you, Danielle?"

She knew why he kept using her name, to put her at ease and make her feel like an equal so she could use his. Something Adam Dawson had and would never have done or even dreamed of doing.

"Mr. Hughes," she began. "I can't lie, when I first met you and Dr Stark told me you are a DV worker, I… I didn't believe her."

Hughes chuckled, still squeezing her hand in his. "Why?"

"I don't know," she admitted. "I guess it almost felt too convenient. Too good to be true? Like, suddenly, this guy with his name pops up out of nowhere, and he just happens to be a DV worker with his name?"

"Yes, I can understand how that might look, but believe me I am indeed a DV worker. I'm also a trained guard on the medium security ward."

"I know," she smiled at him. "Good for you!"

"I actually knew a little while ago that I might be needed to help with someone's treatment up here," Hughes said, and Danielle was surprised by his honest admission. "Although at the time I had no idea who it was or why. Dr Stark contacted me one day and talked to me about it. She said they needed someone with my name. I just said OK. I didn't ask any questions at the time, as Dr Stark told me it would be sometime in the future."

"Really? When was this?"

Hughes thought for a moment. "Hmm, about three months ago?"

"Sneaky, Dr Stark," Danielle smiled at her doctor. "But good thinking."

"It does happen occasionally," Dr Stark chuckled. "Of course, I knew you'd be suspicious at first and it's quite understandable I might add like Adam just said. But I and Dr Loomis also knew how invaluable he might be to your treatment for obvious reasons."

"I'm still not sure I want to be named Adam anymore," Hughes muttered. "Jesus Christ. What an absolute…"

She couldn't stop herself this time as she leant in and hugged him. Hughes hugged her back, moving his head, so she was touching his ears. She blushed. Everyone chuckled. Hughes then started to whistle, making her beam.

"But it wasn't you Mr. Hughes," she said softly. "You just share his name. That was wrong of me to be so rude to you that first day, just because of your name. I'm sorry."

"Hey, I can't even remember what you said. It's all forgotten," he squeezed and released her.

Danielle smiled gratefully at him. Still gripping his hand once more, she turned to face him. "Thanks," she took a breath. "Thanks, Adam."

"Yay!" Everyone cheered. Michael kissed the top of her head and squeezed her close.

"I think that merits dessert time!" Dr Loomis exclaimed, and she was brought close to tears by the genuine delight in his voice. "Terrific fighting ladies first, what would you like, Danielle?"

It was a full three hours later she and Michael headed back to their room. Danielle couldn't believe how amazing she felt. When he'd said good night to her, Hughes had hugged her, let her touch his ears and whistled for a good minute. Now he released her arm and gently handed her over to Michael.

"I'll see you in the morning," he said cheerfully. "I with the small ears!"

"They're apparently not as small as mine," Jack quipped from behind them.

"No one's are as small as yours," Danielle said. Everyone roared with laughter. "Rick here told me that with my ears we could pick up Haddonfield radio from Australia! So, I like to pull his every so often," she reached up and did so. "Just trying to extend his aerials for him should I not happen to be in the car!"

Hughes hooted with laughter, which made her crack up too. "Awesome," he just managed. "Absolutely awesome! I'm guessing my ears are too small, right?"

"That's what she said to me too," Joanne said in mock hurt. Everyone continued laughing.

"Then I've got no chance," Jack said, sounding like he was close to tears. "Oh, my pour ears!" Danielle was clutching Michael's arm and her stomach, gasping for breath. She could also hear him chuckling with everyone else. "Oh god…" she gasped. "Thanks Mr. Hughes, I haven't laughed so much in what feels like ages."

"Then my job is done," he squeezed her arm again, before taking her hand. "You're welcome."

"Good night," Danielle said, this time only taking a second as she squeezed his hand. "Good night, Adam."

"Woot!" Jack, Rick and Joanne exclaimed together. Hughes moved so she was touching his ears and whistled again. "Good night, Danielle, I'll see you in the morning. Sleep well."

"You too," she called after him as he walked away, still whistling.

As they entered their cell, Rick spoke. "Michael, I was asked to give you this," as he handed the killer an envelope. Danielle's heart picked up speed, for only she and Joanne knew what that was, plus Dr Stark. But she did as she'd planned and pretended, she was none the wiser as she crossed to the desk, picking up her earphones. Sure, enough as the guards left, she heard Michael tearing open an envelope. She smiled to herself. How would he react? To disguise her nerves, she started her book.

Joanne had merely checked it when she'd finished typing it and had told her there wasn't one mistake. Danielle was proud of herself for this, considering she'd typed it without the aid of a screen reader. Dr Stark had simply enveloped it, but Danielle had also asked her to read it first. Now she waited, anticipation, nerves but also excitement building up within her. Because only she and Joanne knew exactly what Michael Myers was currently reading.

Dear Michael,

I wanted to take a leaf out of your book, as it were, and write you a letter, just as you did once to me. Although mine will be considerably longer than yours was! Sorry about this, but I have a lot I want to say.

Firstly, I can't thank you enough for everything you've done for me. From protecting me that day when Jefferson tripped me up, (even though you were seriously considering killing me that night,) to doing the small things I love, which you know cheer me up like letting me touch your ears. Not just once, but hundreds of times. Not to mention whistling! Wow, who'd have thought Michael Myers could whistle? Let alone that anyone would find out this fact without dying!

That's even before we move onto the big stuff, like when you killed Jefferson after he ejaculated in my face. I asked you just this morning why you did that, and I understand you don't know. As for the other two, as for Baker, I don't need to ask why you did that, the reason is staring us in the face. He gave Dawson my first protected number, thereby compromising my safety.

Then, ah. Third time lucky. You killed Adam Dawson himself. I can't tell you how much I wished I could see that, I even said that to Rick and Jack while the kill was in progress, 'damn I wish I could see this.' Jack was amazing and pretty much commentated all the way through. I don't know whether you could hear him, or whether when you're lusting blood everything else gets blocked out?

You have been such a fantastic friend ever since I got here, which is something I never thought I'd say of and to Michael Myers himself. Even though we both know you could and would have killed me without a second thought if you'd had a chance at first. I thank you for your honesty when you told me about how that night Jefferson tripped me, you were seriously considering doing so in my sleep. Now, I can't thank you enough for sparing my life.

You may wonder where I'm going with this, considering we've discussed all of this before. Well, that's my point. I wanted to take this chance to really thank you, having time to consider just how I wanted to word it.

My actual point is, I love you, Michael Myers. I love you with all my heart and soul and if you'll let me, I'm yours for life. I can't believe I was able to call Mr. Hughes by name today, even though it appears I need to be holding his hand to repeat it. It's almost like his hand is a physical lifeline if you like, and I need to be holding it before I can say it, almost as proof I have his permission. I know that will wear off in time as I work with him, but I also know it's a huge start!

A huge part of my progress is thanks to you, Michael. Even if we hadn't ended up as a couple, I meant what I said that day I told you how I felt, and we got together. 'Either way you've got a friend for life, Michael Myers.' I meant it. Even if for some reason we didn't work out in the end, that one fact will never, ever change. But don't get me wrong, I really, really hope we do and I'm sure we will. I want to be yours, for life.

You know I've joked with you a couple of times, 'Unless you want me to pounce on you right here and now, stop kissing me that way,' and other things. We both know they were playful, with the promise of someday. The thing is Michael, I think that someday might have already come. I think I want to take things further between us physically. How much further, I'll only know if you're willing to find out with me. I totally appreciate you might not be ready for this yet yourself, and if that's the case please tell me, and I will more than understand.

The thing is, even when I'm touching your ears, which I told you are 'sexy as all hell' now, I feel desire throughout my body. Your ears, voice, hell you are so damn sexy, something else I have said to you before word for word.

I'm not saying we go all the way the first time, not at all. But I really want to be close to you, and to know what it feels like if you touched me, kissed me, loved me, if you know what I mean. I would also like to reciprocate it, but again only if you're willing. I did say it wouldn't happen, not here, but now I might have to reconsider that statement.

I'm not expecting you to finish reading this and do it tonight, that is unless you want to. Like I say, I don't even know how much further I'm ready for, I'll only know when it's happening. Are you willing to find out with me sometime soon, darling? I said I want to be yours in every way, and I meant it.

The very fact I'm ready for this is also hugely down to you. You have been so gentle and patient with me, not to mention kind. But when I gave my heart to you, I knew sometime this would follow, of course it would as it's part of a relationship. But while you haven't said as much, I know you don't see it as an important part and would have waited if I needed you to. That works both ways. If you say you're not ready, that is fine too.

I love you so much, Michael Myers. I can't thank you enough for everything you have done for me, and I will be eternally grateful to you for the rest of my life. Yours always,

Danielle.

"I can't believe how well Danielle's done and how fast she's progressed," Dr Stark said to Dr Loomis as they walked back towards his office.

"I know," Dr Loomis smiled at his junior consultant. "It's fantastic. I hardly recognise her anymore. She's not the woman who walked through these doors months ago, that's for sure!"

Rick, Jack and Joanne came up behind them. "We're off in a minute boss," Jack said.

"How many times have I told all three of you to quit with the 'boss?' Dr Loomis said with a grin.

"Too many to count," Joanne smirked.

"Exactly, so listen," Dr Loomis laughed. "As Danielle would say, use your ears!" They all chuckled.

"No worries, have a good evening all of you. Don't forget, you're not in until 10AM tomorrow morning due to tonight instead of 7."

Joanne shook her head. "I didn't count that as work," she said. "I counted it as a moment I was privileged to be there for. I for one will be in at 7."

"Me too," Rick and Jack said together.

Dr Loomis sighed but nodded. "Ok. You are good guards and don't you forget it."

"We won't," the three called back, smiling at him and Dr Stark as they walked away.

"You won't let us," Joanne called. "Night!" The three shouted as they left.

Dr Loomis smiled fondly. "They are good people and guards both," he said. "That turned out to be the best decision I made when I assigned Danielle to Joanne. It's clear they really care about each other now."

"I agree," Dr Stark smiled. "That was a great decision, it worked out well for both. Joanne was legitimately heartbroken when Dawson snatched Danielle, that was clear for anyone to see."

Dr Loomis nodded. "Yes, that was one hell of an evil stunt he pulled. I never thought I'd say this, but I was glad to see him go. He's like Chancer, he would never have changed."

Dr Stark pulled a disgusted face. "What in God's name motivates men like that? That unstoppable, uncompromising hatred of women, and for no other reason than because we are women. In all my years as a doctor, that's one of few questions I've never been able to answer or find the answer too either."

"Don't try," Dr Loomis advised. "I think that's one question we'll never be able to answer."

"I mean shit," Dr Stark appeared to be talking to herself more than him now. "I know most of the time it's either because their mother abandons them or something like that, but Dawson had both parents. His father was the biggest misogynist I've ever heard of, he treated Lisa Dawson like shit. So of course, Adam followed in Edward's footsteps. Like father, like son. I haven't found any reason in all the research I've ever done as to why Edward hated Lisa and women in general so much."

"I'm just glad Danielle never met Edward," Dr Loomis said softly.

Dr Stark shivered. "Me too, God, me too! He probably would've raped her or something horrific! Adam wouldn't have cared, hell he'd have probably encouraged it!"

"Exactly," Dr Loomis nodded. "Now get home to Luke you, I've got the doctors quarters for tonight."

Adam Hughes felt a wave of sadness wash over him as he headed for his car. Everything Danielle had told him had genuinely shocked him. Sure, he'd seen men who controlled and abused women and of course the other way around, but this was on a whole new level. He could remember only one time in his career where a woman had come close in her abuse of a man, and he'd thought that was bad enough. But this, this was a whole new ball game. Dawson's level of misogyny was literally enough to make him speechless, as he'd shown in the meeting room. The having to call him 'sir,' the numerous scars, the rapes, the total control. He'd done a bit of research as part of his job when Dr Stark had first told him about Adam and Edward Dawson, and it appeared that Edward was just the same and as bad as his son.

He'd met women who were as badly scarred as Lisa Dawson was, although he'd never actually met her, as she wasn't his job. But he couldn't stop himself feeling sympathy for her. It was as though both Adam and Edward wanted to set a record for how badly they could abuse women.

But the fact that Adam had dared and risked everything to snatch Danielle from Haddonfield Memorial Hospital in the middle of the day and broad daylight, showed how dangerous he had been. The knocking Joanne out with chloroform also showed there were no lengths he would not go to to get Danielle back. Property, that was all he considered her as. This was further shown by the fact he chained her to rape and sexually assault her, the fact she almost couldn't even breathe without his permission. That she was raped if she didn't call him "Sir," every single time. It made him feel sick. He thought he'd seen everything, but this was simply unbelievable, tragic and evil. He tried to help the abusers too sometimes, to help them realise domestic violence was not the answer. He remembered one case where the couple had got back together and married after the guy had attended a DV course, and the relationship was perfect, the female involved had called him a 'changed man.'

That said, Hughes knew nothing whatsoever would've changed Dawson, either of them. They were clearly set on a course to make women's lives a living hell. But how Dawson had not backed away after he'd known with photographic proof that Danielle was protected by Michael Myers himself, Adam would never know. He'd have been running for the hills!

"Hey," said a soft voice as he felt the warm hand on his shoulder. He started, lost in his thoughts. It was Joanne, Rick beside her.

"You alright man?" Rick murmured, clearly seeing his face.

Adam sighed. "I just…" he took a deep breath. "How? How could Dawson, father or son, have been so… evil? I normally try to see the good in people, including the abusers, I've helped several of them to completely turn around. One couple married because of it. But shit," he ran his hands through his spikey hair. "Dawson, they are just… a new ball game! I've… I thought I'd seen everything, but that?"

Rick squeezed his other shoulder; Joanne still had her hand on it. "I know," Rick said. "It's sickening, isn't it? I was there when Dawson, that's Adam, got his proof Danielle was being protected by Michael Myers, that would've sure made me give up, but he still didn't. I was there when Michael got his deserved revenge."

"Yeah," Hughes shivered a little. "I'd have been running for the hills if that Adam was me, that's for damn sure! But I'm glad I didn't see that. Seeing someone decapitated can't have been… easy."

Rick chuckled. "Jack nor I have slept properly since, pal. But by the same token, it was Adam Dawson, a purely evil man who deserved it. I've come to realise over time that Michael is kinder than him!"

Hughes smiled. "Not a statement I ever thought I'd hear regarding Michael Myers."

Rick smiled back. "I know, tell me about it! He saved my life one day. We had a patient who tried to choke me with his shackles, came very, very close. Myers knocked him out, gave me some water and then carried me out to the ambulance when it got here."

Hughes whistled softly. "Wow. I did sense some sort of bond between you two, that would explain it." He lowered his voice, considering they weren't in the confidential surroundings of the ward. "That was Derek Chancer, wasn't it?"

Rick raised an eyebrow. "How do you know?"

Adam sighed. "Because he killed one of the women whose husband I was working with. The guy was really working on his abuse issues, so much so they got back together to give their marriage another shot. The slimy little rat raped and killed her their first day back together when she walked to the shops. That was the final straw and why he ended up in Smith's Grove. Good riddance, 'old sparky' should've had him years ago."

Rick whistled. "Damn. She and his other forty-one victims."

"Quiet," Adam nodded. "So, the fact Michael saved your life when Chancer almost killed you says something, right? The old him would've tried to kill you too."

Rick nodded. "Yes, but he's still terrifying when he's angry." He told Hughes about what'd happened with Gregory that morning.

"Shit," Hughes stared at him. "See? I was right, he clearly does care for you."

Jack arrived at that moment, clearly having just got a shuttle to the staff main parking lot. Adam smiled at him; it was a little more genuine this time. "Hi my friend."

"You're a good man Adam," don't forget it. You have done an amazing job with helping Danielle, she can call you Adam now and we were sure that would take months," Joanne said, squeezing his shoulder again.

Hughes smiled at her. "Thanks. Yes, after Dr Stark told me everything I, too, thought it would take a while. But that's not my influence."

"Bullshit!" The three guards said together.

"Yes, it is," Jack said. "You've been so kind and patient with her, we've all seen it! Hell, even Michael thanked you today. What does that tell you? Then the way you whistled and let her touch your ears, that was just the finishing touch. You are a great guy, Adam; I can say that in only the short time I've known you."

"Well, thanks," Hughes blushed. "I appreciate it."

"Now get home," Jack clapped him on the back. "We'll see you at 9 tomorrow?"

"You sure will," this time Hughes' smile was real. "Thanks guys, you're all so kind too. Danielle's come as far as she has partly thanks to you as well."

"Us and Michael," Joanne smiled.

Hughes grinned. "Well, yeah."

Joanne and Rick got into his car, and they saw Adam's knowing smile. They smiled back at him and nodded; he'd obviously twigged they were a couple very quickly. Not that they were necessarily keeping it a secret anymore.

"Bye Adam," Jack smiled at him. "Have a good night pal, take it easy."

"You too," Hughes got into his own car, started the engine and headed towards the main gates, home to his wife and daughter.

Danielle switched her phone to 'do not disturb,' so that only the four members of her family, Nigel, Michael, Joanne and Rick's phones would ring if they called her. There was silence so she assumed Michael was still reading and she wasn't surprised to feel her hands shaking. At least she knew he wouldn't be angry this time. Or at least, she hoped not.

Don't be stupid Avery! She told herself sternly. What does he even have to be angry about? You're trying to proposition him sexually for fuck's sake! Why would he be angry about that? Idiot!

She hated herself for having parts of Adam still with her, but then, she reasoned, she couldn't blame herself too fast. She was sure that was what Dr Stark would say if she broached the subject anyway. Not only that, but she'd be right.

Right on cue, her phone buzzed with a text. For a second she thought it was Michael, but when she looked, her heart surged with just as much love as it would've if it had indeed been him. It was Nigel.

Night kiddo, no change yet. Speak to you tomorrow. Love you to pieces, grandad.

One of them always texted the other every night before bed. Smiling, she replied. Good night grandad, thanks for the update. I love you too lots and lots. D.

Her heart picked up speed a few seconds later once again, when she felt Michael sit down next to her on the double sofa and pull her into his arms. She smiled up at him as he kissed her.

"I'm better at writing than talking," she whispered. "Kind of like you I suppose" she smiled again and heard his quiet chuckle. Then, he replied.

I love you too, Danielle. It's mutual, you have helped me in more ways than you know. Hell, looking at, holding you or even just your photograph silences my need to kill. I didn't think anyone would ever be able to achieve this. In truth, I am also glad I didn't kill you in your sleep that night, and nothing to do with solitary confinement. It's because if I had, I would've lost a woman who now means a lot to me. I still don't fully understand it yet, but we could learn together.

"That sounds amazing," she murmured. He held her tighter and helped her to her feet, leading her over to the bed. Pulling off her clothes, tonight she didn't put her pyjamas on and got in completely naked, for one of only a few times since they'd become a couple. Michael did the same and got in beside her. She reached for him, and they moved into a cuddle.

Thank you for the letter, I will keep it for life.

She blinked back tears. "Thanks, Michael. I meant every word it says. I talked to Dr Stark about wanting to write it and Joanne worked with me to type it. I typed it, she just checked it."

Well, it means a lot to me, and I appreciate it.

Danielle knew they hadn't talked about the biggest part of her letter, but also knew they had to. She took a deep breath, but he silenced her with another soft kiss. Clearly, he knew what she was about to say.

Danielle, I acknowledge what you say, but I do not want you to do something you might regret later. But if you really feel ready for it, I stand by what I said to you when you took that last huge step for that cuddle. I will do whatever you need if you instigate it, anything. That includes this. This time, the ball is entirely in your court, you are not under my or anyone else's control. Yes, I won't deny I have felt… sexual desire when you have nibbled my ears and so on. I suggest that we play it by… ear. Sorry, I mean ears, ears!

Tears of love rushed to her eyes as she hugged him tightly. "That's fine," she whispered when she could speak over the lump in her throat. "I agree."

Hey, don't cry. I hate to see you do so.

"It's out of love you idiot," she hugged him tightly and laughed shakily. "You are the kindest, most patient man I have ever known. Ok I know that's not saying much but damn it it's true!" He kissed her again, moving his head, so her hands were on his ears. Grinning, she softly pulled them. He chuckled again.

Ow, my ears! I see what Nigel meant. They might not stay attached if you keep pulling them like that!

She burst out laughing. "Oh, shut up!" There was a comfortable silence between them for a few seconds, before she softly spoke again. "But Michael, I meant what I said too about longing to feel your touch. I'd love to know what your hands feel like upon me, as my lover." Leaning forward, she again nibbled the top of his left ear. Just like last time she heard his sharp intake of breath, but this time he didn't pull back and she felt his erection against her. This would've terrified her before, and she knew he knew that. Now, it thrilled her, with this man and him only.

"Whoops," she smirked. "I wasn't trying to get… his attention."

You lie. Yes, you were.

She grinned at him. "Well, it worked," she pressed against him and moved in for a long, deep kiss. For the first time, their tongues moved in a sensual dance, different to any way they'd kissed before. Danielle never wanted it to end. Very slowly as if not wanting to hurt her, she felt Michael's warm hand move to her left breast and start to stroke it, his fingers pinching her nipple. She was the one to draw in a sharp breath this time, but pressed against him to show he could and should carry on.

Reaching out her own hand as they still kissed deeply, she started touching his muscular chest. This was something she'd wanted to do for so long. Damn. He was just as sexy as she'd always thought. Pulling her mouth back from his, she again nibbled his ear, the right one this time. She could hardly believe what he did then, but God, she loved it! Michael moved his lips to her breasts and deliberately started to kiss them, taking his time as he kissed each one of her scars. Danielle had never felt so loved and almost worshiped in her life.

Reaching her hand down, she very carefully and almost cautiously took hold of his cock, just as his tongue started licking her left nipple. This time she gasped and again pressed against his mouth, as she slowly moved her hand up and down his length. She felt his breath speed up against her, just as hers had. As she did so, she wondered was she ready for oral? Would he stop her? Only one way to find out Avery, she thought. Don't think about wanting to try, just try!

But she didn't get the chance to think about it further, because now Michael's hand had slipped between her legs and his soft finger was against her clit as another carefully slipped into her. Now she did moan in pleasure.

"Oh God," she gasped. "Yes, Michael, yes! Please keep going?" Almost desperately, she sought his mouth again and they resumed their passionate kiss. She continued to stroke him, as he reciprocated. Before too long, she felt her orgasm building and clutched at his hair, then softly pulled his ears. Pulling them if anything turned her on even more. When it hit, it was so intense she almost screamed his name. She'd put the sound proofing screen up just in case and was now very thankful for this. Something that had been designed to protect her, was now being used for her and Michael's very first sexual and private moment. She tensed up against him as she came, it felt like it lasted forever before she slumped back, fulfilled.

She could hardly believe what had just happened. Michael gently put his hand on hers, stopping her.

"It's ok," she murmured. "Dr Stark knows and will give us new sheets if we ask." She could hear his breathing and for the first time since she'd known him, it wasn't calm and steady, it was fast. She could feel his heart hammering against hers. Fuck it, she thought. He deserves to know the meaning of real pleasure."

Before she could think about what she was doing, she moved and took him in her mouth. She heard his quiet gasp and smiled to herself. His hand rested on top of her head, and she could tell he was trying not to push her mouth down further. Almost greedily, she took the hint. It wasn't long before he did try to pull her back and she knew why, he was about to ejaculate. For the first time in her life, she resisted a man's wishes and kept going. She knew he was trying to warn her, but she didn't listen.

Sure, enough seconds later, he released his load into her mouth, and she didn't think, she just swallowed it. She'd had to do this so many times with Adam, it was almost second nature. But this time, she felt as though she'd never tasted anything so sweet in her life.

Moving back up, she took his mouth in a gentle kiss now, not passionate. "How was that?" She breathed, licking her lips like a cat who'd literally, just got the cream.

She heard him try to take control of his breathing and grinned. A second later he messaged her.

Damn, Danielle. I have never felt anything like that. I did try to stop you.

"I know you did," she smirked at him. "But there was no way that was happening. I wanted to show you how good it can feel."

You certainly succeeded in doing that. Someday soon I will return the favour.

"You already did," she breathed. "That's a mark of how much I love you and appreciate everything you've done for me. There was a time not so long ago I wouldn't have dreamed or dared to even think about doing that, and that's all thanks to you, darling Michael Myers."

I love you too, Danielle.

"Is that just because of just now?" She smirked and kissed him, feeling his mouth move in a smile beneath hers.

Well, if I'd known, maybe.

"Ha ha," she snuggled against him as they kissed again. "You gave me an amazing orgasm too," she murmured. "God, that was the best I've ever felt."

I'm glad. We can feel them together, we have years ahead to do so. If that was the start, I can't wait for the rest.

"Me neither darling," she stroked his hair then, for the first time. His forehead was damp with sweat as was hers. "Do you want some water?" She asked.

Yes, but I'll get it, you stay there. Do you?

"Thanks Michael, and ok if you say so," she smiled.

That's not an order.

"I know sweetheart, I know." Her heart surged with love for him all over again if that was possible, as he always went out of his way to tell her this. Seconds later, he handed her a cool glass of water. She drank it down almost in one, which didn't surprise her considering what they'd just done. Michael took it from her and refilled it. "Thanks babes," she murmured.

You are so beautiful, Danielle.

"Thanks," she felt the lump swell in her throat again. She once more found herself asking the question she'd asked herself several times over the last few months. Was this real Michael Myers? "You are so hansom, Michael." This time he didn't tease her about that comment coming from a blind woman, not after what'd just happened, and she couldn't deny she was grateful for this. There was a time to be playful, and one to be serious. He simply slid into bed again and pulled her into a kiss. "I love you," she whispered in his ear. This time, he didn't message her, he whispered back, something she was still in awe she'd managed to break, his silence.

"I love you too, Danielle."

Before she closed her eyes, she again found herself thinking of the time Jefferson had ejaculated in her face. Michael had killed him for this, and now just months later, had done so into her mouth as her partner. Consensually, amazingly and to her, romantically. She was asleep tight in his arms less than 5 minutes later, fulfilled, happy and above all, loved.

"You're glowing!"

It was the next morning and for one of only a few times since arriving at Smith's Grove, Danielle had slept right through until the breakfast bell sounded. When she woke, Michael had lowered the screen a little so they would hear it. "Good thinking," she said as she kissed him. "Morning darling."

Now as they headed down the corridor towards breakfast, Michael with Rick but for one of the first times he was not chained, Joanne playfully nudged her. "You are so glowing, Danielle Avery!"

She blushed. "I expect I am. I… gave him the letter and things… went well."

Joanne squeezed her arm affectionately but didn't ask anything more, for which Danielle was grateful. She didn't want to discuss what'd happened with anyone, not even Dr Stark. This was private, purely between her and Michael. Damn, she loved him.

One week later.

Danielle could hardly believe how happy she felt over the next few days. She and Michael were getting closer all the time, including physically. He had brought her to orgasm twice more and she had returned the favours. Her orgasm when Michael first performed oral sex on her was nothing short of explosive. Softly pulling his ears as he'd done so had only made it even better. The other nights they had just talked about whatever was on their minds. Even now she found herself still asking the age-old question. 'Is this really Michael Myers?'

"Michael," she said quietly one night as they sat on their sofa, eating some late-night chocolates. "Could you please do me a favour if you don't mind? Can you answer the question I asked you in my letter? I really would like to know the answer, if you're willing to give it."

He didn't answer by text, instead she heard the rustle of paper and realised he was reading her letter once again. She waited for about a minute or so before his reply came.

Are you referring to where you ask if I heard Jack's words while I was killing Dawson?

"Yes," she nodded. She guessed he was thinking because the silence was a couple of minutes this time before he replied.

To be completely honest with you Danielle, I can't remember. I do know all I was feeling was rage, and I did hear Dr Loomis tell you I was keeping Dawson's eyes well away from you. This is true and was not an accident. I didn't want that slimy little worm to see you any longer or get any further satisfaction out of everything he'd done to you.

"Thanks," she hugged him. "So, you didn't hear Jack commentating, if you like?"

I did not, no. I guess you could say that by that point, everything was indeed blocked out accept my need for this kill.

She nodded again. "That makes sense. Thanks for answering that, Michael."

You're welcome. Sorry, I forgot until you mentioned it. However, I will say this. The rush of pride I felt when you stood up to him the way you did, that I heard loud and clear. I was so proud of you in that moment, and in several since, too. Chancer's execution, for example.

She blushed. "Thanks, but I didn't really…" He stopped her by covering her mouth with his.

No, don't say that. Don't put yourself down, I don't want to hear that from you. You know as well as I do you stood up to those guys so don't try to play it down.

"That's me told," she smiled. "Ok, I'll try not to."

That's all I can ask.

Danielle smiled at him, snuggled into his arms and within minutes, she was fast asleep.
