A little while before
"And here is Aniki back." Johnny announced.
"Admit that you prefer yourself like this." Yosaku said. "You look better dressed."
"We see the difference right away," Azelma assured.
Despite the compliments from the trio in front of him, Zoro seemed less than pleased. True, with the money Nami had given, Zoro had managed to buy himself a sword in one of Water-7's shops. However, as he wore it on his belt with his two other swords, he retorted.
"It doesn't have the qualities of my Yubashiri."
Indeed, while his old sword was an exceptional weapon, the sword he had just bought was barely above average. If Zoro fought with his full potential, he was afraid that his new purchase would break into pieces.
"For now, I'll have to make do with this." He said, sighing. "Nevertheless, I must find another saber that can help me improve."
Then, knowing he had no choice, he looked at the little money he had left, before declaring.
"I'll try to console myself with a few glasses of sake! Are you coming with me?"
"Absolutely." Yosaku assured him. "Don't worry! I'm sure we can find a great place to eat grilled meats and some good alcohol."
However, placing his hand on his teammate's shoulder, Johnny retorted.
"Sorry, Zoro! But we're going to have to leave you."
"Huh?" The other two men asked in surprise.
"I have something to tell Yosaku and I think it will take a while." Johnny assured.
"Huh? Why don't you tell me here?"
"Just follow me." Johnny ordered him.
Finally, following him with a growl, Yosaku left Zoro behind, who couldn't understand the situation.
"Is Johnny sick?"
"It's true that he's acting strange." Azelma said. "Maybe it's because he's worried that the Navy could come here at any moment."
"Tssss! There's no reason to worry about that." Zoro retorted. "Instead of being anxious, it's better to enjoy some rest."
Then he started pushing Azelma's wheelchair.
"Do you want to go have some sake?"
"Huh? I admit I don't drink alcohol often." Azelma admitted, scratching the back of her head. "I've actually never drunk sake in my life! Before I was a slave, it was too expensive for someone like me."
"You've had a horrible life." Zoro said. "But whatever, with the money Nami gave you, you can afford whatever you want."
Having, indeed, money in her pockets, Azelma seemed embarrassed.
"I don't understand why she gave me money! I'm not part of your crew."
"Tssss! Stop asking yourself these kinds of useless questions." Zoro growled. "For once that Nami isn't totally stingy, I advise you to take advantage of it! Believe me, you'll never have opportunities like this again! As for me, I never want to get into debt with her again."
Chuckling at hearing it, Azelma noticed.
"I feel like Nami has a stronger will than you when it comes to money."
"She's a witch." Zoro growled.
"Hey, Aniki." Two voices shouted behind the duo.
"Huh?" Zoro wondered, turning around. "You're back already?"
However, he was surprised to find that the two people behind him weren't Yosaku and Johnny. In fact, they were two teenagers the man didn't know.
"Aniki, nice to see you."
"Aniki?" Zoro repeated. "I don't know you! Who are you?"
"I'm Michael." One of the teenagers announced, with a flute visible behind his back.
"And I am Hoichael." Announced the second teenager, who had a ruler visible behind him.
"And what do you want from me?" Zoro asked.
"We want you to be our aniki." The duo announced. "We're fans of the Mugiwara crew and we think you're super badass! We want to be your little brothers."
" What ? "
" Oh that's cute. " Said Azelma. "You have fans."
"We're not his fans," Michael retorted. "We're his little brothers."
"We're not part of the same family." Zoro roared. "I refuse anyway."
" What ? "
"I don't have time to babysit you! If you want, I'll give you an autograph, but then you leave me alone."
"What? Out of the question! Aniki, why are you so cruel to us?"
"I AM NOT YOUR ANIKI."
Then, going back to pushing Azelma's chair, the man felt a vein of anger form, as he heard the two teenagers follow them.
"Where are you going? To buy food? Meat?"
"If you want, Aniki, we can show you the way! We know this city by heart."
"Leave us alone." Zoro ordered them.
"But Aniki, family is sacred."
"You don't agree, Onee-san?"
"Onee-san?" Azelma wondered.
"Since Zoro has become our Aniki, you become our Onee-san."
"I AM NOT YOUR ANIKI."
"Don't be mean, Aniki."
Finally, seeing that arguing with them was useless, Zoro pointed in a direction.
"AHHHH! What is that?"
"Huh?" the duo wondered, turning around.
Barely having time to react, Azelma felt herself moving at full speed, while Zoro started running.
"Hold on, we have to lose them before he drives me crazy."
"It's hard being an idol." The young woman snickered, gripping the armrests of her wheelchair. "Are we going back to the inn?"
"No way! These two kids aren't going to stop me from drinking my glass of sake! Try to find a bar."
However, taking a turn, Zoro suddenly stopped, as he saw Michael and Hoichael in front of him.
" ANIKI ! "
" What ? "
"No point in trying to lose us! Unlike you, we know this city by heart, as well as its smallest shortcuts."
"No one can escape from us."
Suddenly, Zoro placed his hands on their shoulders.
" Huh ? "
Then, the next second, he threw them towards the nearest canal.
"AHHHHHHH!" the duo shouted, before diving into the water.
Staring at the canal for a few moments, Zoro eventually saw them come back up to the surface.
"Aniki, why did you do that?"
"Have you gone mad?"
"Tssss! I don't have time to waste on you." Zoro retorted. "Now stop following me."
However, a huge figure suddenly landed between Azelma and him.
" What ? "
"How dare you hurt my children?" A female voice roared, as two carpet beaters were thrown towards Zoro.
Raising his hands, Zoro managed to grab the weapons. However, gritting his teeth, he noticed that the person wielding them had a lot of strength in their arms.
"Gnnnnnn! Who are you?"
Facing him, an obese woman said.
"I will destroy anyone who harms my children."
"Your children? Then I guess those two stubborn donkeys are your sons! Perfect! Tell them to stop following me."
"Who do you think you are, playing the tyrant with my children?" the stranger roared, forcing Zoro to back away.
However, flexing the muscles in his arms, Zoro managed to push her away.
"Hey! I don't feel like fighting today! Why don't any of you make the effort to listen to me."
With a confident smile, the stranger declared.
"I see that you have a minimum of character! I like people like you! But I hate more those who hit my children! HISSATSU BAM BAM TORNADO !"
Suddenly spinning at full speed, the woman took on the appearance of a top, as she approached Zoro, all the while intending to hit him with her carpet beaters.
"This is the first time I've seen someone fight like this." Azelma said.
For his part, feeling no fear, Zoro ended up sighing.
"If this gorilla wants to fight, I have no choice."
However, Michael and Hoichael stood in front of him.
"Mom, stop! He didn't do anything wrong."
"This is our new aniki."
" YOU ... " Said Zoro.
However, he was surprised, as he saw their mother stop.
"Your new brother?"
But, the next moment, her two weapons struck the skulls of Michael and Hoichael.
"You two... weren't you supposed to be at school? And what's with the firecrackers going off in front of our neighborhood chapel? I haven't stopped getting complaints from the neighborhood since this morning."
"Ouch! Sorry mom."
"Please! Don't get upset."
"Who are these weirdos?" Zoro asked.
"Maybe we'd better take advantage of this to escape." Azelma remarked.
Too late. Turning her gaze towards them, the fat woman declared.
"My name is Aunta! I'm the mother of these rascals! Excuse them! Hey, you guys! Come say hello."
At that moment, Azelma and Zoro saw five children appear behind Aunta, while three of them had a baby in their arms.
"Hello… I'm Yoko."
" Yuuya ! "
" Shou !"
" Arato!"
"Akihiro."
" Huh ? " Said Zoro.
"Your family is really large." Azelma remarked.
"HAHAHAHA! Don't worry! If you need a place to live, you're welcome to come to my place! Besides, it's time to go home."
" What ? "
At that moment, several of the children grabbed Zoro's arms and forced him to follow Aunta, while another pushed Azelma's wheelchair.
"Hey! Where are we going?"
Finally, a few minutes later, finding himself in a rather dilapidated house, Zoro displayed an angry face, as he growled.
"Why are we here?"
"No need to get upset." Azelma assured him. "I doubt your pirate life will end here! Just take advantage of a moment of inattention to escape from here! Unless, you want to start a new life as a babysitter... aniki."
" SHUT UP ! "
" Onee-san is right, Aniki. " Said Michael.
"Our family needs you," Hoichael assured.
At that moment, one of the babies began to cry. Seeing this, Michael grabbed him, before starting to rock him in his arms. However, seeing him still crying, he affirmed.
"He must be hungry."
"I'll take care of it." His brother assured him, heading towards the kitchen.
Seeing the baby continue to cry, Azelma held out her arms before proposing.
"Do you want me to hold it?"
Handing him the baby, Michael saw Azelma holding him tenderly in her arms. Then, like a real mother, Azelma began to rock him. Continuing to cry, the baby finally calmed down.
"There... that's good! I'm here." Azelma assured him.
Staring at her without moving, Zoro then saw Hoichael return, with a bottle in hand.
"Here's something to feed him."
Taking the bottle, Azelma then began to make the child drink. Beginning to drink without complaining, the baby calmed down completely, which made Azelma smile.
" He is cute. "
"You seem to be used to taking care of babies," Michael remarked.
"I've never been able to take care of a baby." Azelma retorted. "I always wanted to give birth to one but..."
Suddenly, his eyes widened, while Zoro raised an eyebrow.
"Have you never taken care of a child?" The swordsman wondered, immediately thinking of Shun-Day.
Lowering her gaze, Azelma remained silent. About to insist, Zoro was surprised when another bottle was thrown in his direction.
"Hey, don't sit around idle." Aunta ordered him, handing him another baby. "Give him his bottle."
" What ? "
"Hurry up! We still have a lot to do before dinner time."
Wanting to groan, Zoro heard the baby start to cry. Having no other choice, he shoved the bottle's nipple into his mouth to silence him.
"Damn it! Why did I find myself in this situation?"
Suddenly, stopping drinking, the baby made strange noises, as if he were choking.
" Huh ? "
" BURP ! "
Burping, the baby spat out some of the milk he had just drunk onto Zoro's t-shirt.
"THE BASTARD! HE THREW UP ON ME!"
Hearing her scream, the baby started crying again.
" DAMN IT ! "
Blushing in embarrassment, Zoro was now dressed in an embarrassing t-shirt.
" What is ... ? "
Next to him, with a hand over her mouth, Azelma was trembling, while she did everything she could not to laugh.
"Admit that you want to make fun of me." The man roared.
"Not... Not at all..." Azelma assured, her face red. "Hihihihi!"
" I HEAR YOU ! "
Now alone in the house, the duo had to take care of the three babies, while the other children seemed to do the chores.
"So this is what living in a family is all about," Azelma remarked.
"You make me feel like you don't know what it is." Zoro remarked.
Having no trouble remembering the conversation from earlier, Zoro repeated.
"You said you always wanted to have a baby... Did you forget you had a daughter?"
Again, Azelma remained silent. Seeming to understand the reason for her gesture, Zoro questioned her.
"Shun-Day...is she really your daughter?"
"What do you think?" Azelma asked. "To tell you the truth, I was surprised that no one noticed the lack of common points between our faces."
Eventually turning to Zoro, she declared.
"I was a slave for three years! But Shun-Day had an even more chaotic life! She was born a slave."
"Born a slave?"
"Her parents were both slaves! No one knows why my former master allowed Shun-Day to live! But, in any case, before our escape, Shun-Day had never known freedom."
"What is your connection with her?"
"When I became a slave, Shun-Day's parents were long dead, forcing her to survive alone in an environment where any other child would have long since died! I didn't have the heart to leave her all alone! That's why I became her new mother! I wanted to give her a reason to live."
Suddenly, positioning the face of one of the babies in front of hers, she began to stare at it before smiling sadly.
"I'm a horrible person, aren't I?"
" Huh ? "
"Shun-Day watched her parents die in front of her and never knew freedom! She must have had the most miserable life ever! Yet, I finally arrived and I could think of nothing better to do than to advise her to continue living! It's as if I took pleasure in ordering her to continue living her miserable life as a slave! You really have to be a horrible person to do that to a child."
Suddenly, a tear rolled down her cheek.
"Shun-day... what would have happened if we hadn't had the courage to run away! Would she have remained a slave her entire life because of me? What mother could do that to the person she considers her own daughter?"
Suddenly, the scabbard of one of Zoro's swords struck her skull.
"IT HURTS!" Azelma shouted, as a bump appeared on her head.
"Bakayaro!" Zoro growled. "I'm used to hearing Menma talk nonsense! But what you just said is the stupidest thing I've ever heard in my life."
" What ? "
"What did you want? To never meet Shun-Day? To make sure she dies without the chance to experience freedom? Don't talk nonsense."
Placing his face in front of Azelma's, Zoro questioned her.
"Even though you're not her real mother, have you seen Shun-Day think of you differently? Have you seen her hate you or loathe you for some reason? Of course not! And do you know why? Because she owes you for giving her a reason to live! Seriously, if she was dead, do you think she'd be free right now?"
"But... because of me, she had to live three more years as a slave."
"How is this your fault? You're the one who sold him? You're the one who told your asshole owner to buy him? You're the one who turned Shun-Day into a slave? Stop your bullshit! You should be proud of yourself for giving him the right to be free! You could never have given him a better gift."
Trying to put on a softer face, he assured.
"Azelma... you did exactly what a mother should do to protect her children! I don't believe in god but... maybe it's because of your kindness that he decided to give you a chance to live as free people."
Hearing this, Azelma wanted to say something. However, remaining still, the young woman remained silent, while more tears flowed down her cheeks.
"Hey... what's wrong with you?"
"Sorry..." Azelma apologized, trying to stop herself from sobbing. "I'm sorry! I can't stop crying."
Rubbing her eyes, she affirmed.
"I... I just... I just want Shun-Day to not hate me! After all... even though we're not related by blood... she's my daughter."
Hearing this, Zoro sighed, before placing his hand on her head.
"Baka! You're worrying for nothing."
"Hey, Aniki!" You should be ashamed of yourself for making Onee-san cry. Michael stated, arriving with the rest of his family.
"You are hateful." Hoichael assured.
"Bad! Bad! Bad!" the other children repeated.
" SHUT UP ! " Growled Zoro.
Nevertheless, Aunta's huge fist hit the back of his head.
" ARGH ! "
"Stop being a bully! You're the big brother! So it's up to you to set an example! Azelma... if he bothers you again, tell me! I'll spank him."
Looking at her, Azelma couldn't help but imagine Zoro, lying on Aunta's lap, while being spanked. Imagining the scene, the young woman stopped crying and began to giggle slightly.
"Hehe... I wouldn't want to miss that."
" OYE ! " Said Zoro.
Finally, he ordered.
"I think my T-shirt needs to be clean! Give it back to me! I want to go home."
"But you're at home." Aunta retorted.
"Don't talk nonsense." Zoro growled. "I don't have time to waste here! I have to find my friends."
"Ungrateful son! Are your friends more important than your family?"
"You are not my family."
Suddenly the door of the house opened. Immediately the children hid behind Aunta, while three men entered the dwelling.
"I came to collect my money," said the man, who appeared to be the leader of the trio.
"I order you to get out of here." Aunta ordered them.
"I came yesterday and the day before! But you refused to pay, you bitch."
"I've already paid you back everything I owed you." Aunta retorted.
"Baka! It is obvious that every debt must be paid with interest! And now your debt is 12 times higher than before."
"Because you think I'm going to pay a crook like you! Stop dreaming."
"What are you saying, witch? Why all the fuss? If you give me your kids, I'm sure I can make a lot of money off of them."
Hearing this, Azelma couldn't help but widen her eyes.
"What did you dare to say?" Aunta asked. "Do you seriously believe that I would sell you one of my children?"
"And why not? After all, everyone knows you're not their real mother! So what's the problem?"
Hearing this, Zoro noticed.
" Now that I think about it, this family is like Azelma and Shun-Day! No two are alike! This woman would have taken all these children into her home to care for them? "
Continuing to smile, the crook affirmed.
"No matter where they are sold, I am sure your children will have a better life than here."
Suddenly the man was surprised, as he saw Azelma rolling her wheelchair before stopping in front of him.
"Huh? What do you want?"
Without saying anything, Azelma positioned her head back. Then, targeting a target, she tilted her head forward with all her strength before headbutting the man in the crotch.
Immediately turning white, the man made a strange noise, before collapsing to the ground. Staring at him in disgust, Azelma stated.
"Given your mentality, I would have regretted the fact that you could have had children! They would have lived through hell living with you."
"You bitch." Another man roared, reaching out his hand towards her.
However, a saber appeared in front of him and stopped him.
"If you touch her, I'll kill you." Zoro said, his gaze arousing.
Frightened, the man and his companion backed away. Finally, picking up the crook on the ground, they preferred to back away, before fleeing at full speed.
Seeing this, Zoro growled.
"They are just cowards."
Then, he growled at Azelma.
"And you... why did you react like that?"
"He made me angry." Azelma said.
Suddenly, applause broke out. Clapping their hands, Aunta and her children seemed impressed by Azelma and Zoro's actions.
"Well done my children! I am proud of you! You defended your family as you had to."
"Aniki, you're the best."
" You're impressive, Onee-san. "
Seeing them act like this, Zoro growled again, while a smile appeared on Azelma's face. No matter what the scammer's arguments were, he was completely wrong. These children could never be happier than here.
"Okay! Now we're going to go shopping for tonight's dinner."
"AYE!" The children assured.
"When will they realize we want to get out of here?" Zoro growled.
Suddenly, he felt Azelma's hands grab his arm.
"Zoro..." She said, her gaze lowered. "Can you crouch?"
"Huh?" The man asked, stooping to her level. "What's wrong? Do you feel bad?"
Suddenly, Azelma surprised the man as she touched his cheek with her lips, and gave him a kiss.
"What?" Zoro wondered, stepping back while blushing.
"Thank you." Azelma told him, giving him her sweetest smile. "You really are a wonderful person."
"Tssss!" The man growled, looking away, unable to make the redness on his cheeks disappear.
