I slightly turned to see Tris and the others. I am not surprised they would come here. This is everyone's favorite place. I was wondering if they had come here yet or not. Our friends would love this place.
"There are two of my favorite sweet peas." Granny said, walking over to them.
I then turned away and went back to my food. But I was still listening to everyone around me.
*Tris's POV*
I was walking to the booth by the counter. But I couldn't take my eyes off the counter. A guy was sitting there with his hood up. Is that who I think that is? So, he has returned. I thought he was gone. But looks like I was wrong. Granny came over and hugged Austin and me.
"Hello, my darlings. Miss you guys. Hope that school is treating you well." She said, coming over to our table.
"Yes. It's great. We miss you too." I said.
"I see you brought new faces." She said.
"Yes. This is Chris, Will, Edward, Lauren, Uriah, Zeke, Lynn, Myra, Shauna, and Marlene." I introduce them to her.
"Hi, sweets. I am Granny." She introduced.
We ordered our food, and she left to take care of others. I still can't take my eyes off the counter. I then felt a hand tap me. I looked over to Austin. I looked at him. He then asked,
"You okay? You spaced out there for a moment."
"The guy at the counter." I said, nodding over to him.
"No. Is that really him? I thought he was gone." Austin said.
"Looks like not. Trouble is here." I said.
"What are you two talking about?" Lauren asked.
"The guy over there in the hooded is the shadow man. If you piss him or Tris here, you will be in trouble." Austin said.
"What do you mean? He is probably just another guy." Chris stated.
"No. He is not. No one knows who he is except what you see. He gets revenge on people for doing wrong in his eyes. In my opinion, he is giving justice for their wrongdoing." I told them truthfully.
"Because he always got revenge for you. Never on you. You are his special person." Austin said.
"So, he never hit you?" Uriah asked me, confused.
"No. He never has. Maybe because I never really did wrong." I told them truthfully.
Then our food came over to us. Granny then said,
"Here you go."
"Thanks, Granny. I have a question. You would know it. Is that really him?" I asked him.
She looked over to the counter. She then said,
"Yes."
Before I could say anything else. She walked away from us. I just smirked. I know it. He is back. Some trouble is going to happen.
*Four's POV*
I smiled to myself. She would be asking about me. I put money down to pay for the bill. But Granny came over to me before I left. She then said,
"On the house."
"I know I can't fight with you on that. Then pay for her food." I said.
Granny smiled and nodded. She then said,
"I will see you around, sweet pea. Stay out of trouble."
"Always." I said.
I then left. I have some things to do. I am home, and I am not here to play nice. I have a list of people to get revenge on. They won't know what will hit them. The shadow man has returned.
*Tris's POV*
I watched him walk out the door. That is nothing good. I have a feeling something terrible is about to happen. Right after he left, we all heard a scream. So, everyone ran to the door and windows. We looked out to see my ex-boyfriend on the ground with some blue gunk on him. It looked like paint. That wasn't it. There was a message. It read,
BEWARE OF THE SHADOWS!
I smiled to myself and went back to sitting down at our booth. This was going to be an exciting holiday. Austin looked back at me from the window and said,
"Well, let the fun begin."
I just smirked and laughed lightly about that. I was glad he was back. The town felt empty when he was gone; it had been a few years since he returned. Everyone returned to their seats, and our friends looked at us in shock. I smiled and said,
"You just seen what the Shadow man can do."
"Well, that was interesting. Can he get away with that? What do the cops think of it?" Chris asked.
"Well, they tried for years to get him, but he was too quick for them. He even got them a few times. But they just gave up now. Since he is only here for a short time." I explained.
"Yeah, my dad said they should just mind their own business and let the man do what he needs to get done." Austin explained.
"Well, that Shadow man would be perfect for Dauntless. But how do you know it's a he? What if it is just a really manly she?" Will asked.
"Because Tris just knows. I asked her the same thing, but she stuck to what she knew. I learned not to go against her on her thought like this. She is usually not wrong." Austin explained.
There were no more questions about the Shadow Man. But I thought it was weird that Lauren and Zeke did not look that interested in the conversation. I would ask them later. I thought this would be right up their lane.
We started back to my place. Everyone was talking about everything. We were having a great time. I couldn't help but think about Four. I would have to call him later. I haven't heard from him since we left. I sighed, pulled Austin aside, and whispered,
"Cover for me."
He gave me a look and then nodded. He walked up with the group and led them back to my house. I went towards the woods and found my favorite spot. A big tree with a treehouse is in the middle of an open area. Under the tree house is a swing hanging there. I smiled to myself and whipped down the swing to sit. I started to push off. I looked up towards the treehouse. There were so many memories here.
"Are you up there?" I asked.
"It's been a while since you have been back. I hope that you have been safe. I haven't been in town myself."
I looked around and knew that there was someone there. There were new footsteps. They were not there yesterday. I sighed and felt stupid. I was talking to myself. I sighed and then said,
"Well, if you ever want to talk, I am here. You know where to find me. Please stay safe and warm."
I got up and started to walk away. Then, a paper airplane came flying down to me. I smiled to myself and opened it. It read,
Beatrice,
It's great to know you have been gone from this hell hole. I am safe and sound. Thanks for caring for me. More will be coming from where that first thing came. Happy Holidays. I will be watching.
I smiled to myself and looked up towards the treehouse. I saw a movement in the treehouse. I sighed and said,
"See you around, friend."
I then headed back home. When I got home, all my friends looked at me. I know Austin could cover me from my parents and brother. But our friends were a different subject. I went downstairs to where the Dauntless was sleeping.
"So, where have you been?" Chris asked me when she came down.
"Places." I told her.
"What places?" She asked me.
"A special place of mine. Don't worry. I was fine." I told her.
"Okay. I will trust you on that." She told me.
I looked at my phone. I know I should text or call Four. I haven't heard from him for a while. I was wondering how he was. I then walked away from Chris. The rest of my friends were now in the basement, too.
*Four's POV*
Tris just left. I was relaxing in my favorite place. The treehouse I lived in before I left. I was lying on an old sleeping bag I kept up here. I then heard my phone buzz. I looked at it. It was Tris. I answered it.
"Hello, Tris." I said to her.
"Hey Four. How are you?" She asked me.
"Good. How are you doing?" I asked her.
"I am good. How is your break?" She asked me.
"I needed up traveling. To an interesting place." I told her.
"To where?" She asked me.
"To a nice small town. Don't worry. I am fine. How is your break going? Hope our friends are not driving you crazy." I asked her.
"It's going good. They are not driving me crazy. Still have my sane mind, you know." She told me.
I could tell something was bothering her. I think I know what. I then asked,
"Are you okay?"
"Yeah. Why do you ask?" She asked me.
"You seem like something is bothering you." I said to her.
"No. Nothing is bothering me. Just thinking." She told me truthfully.
"Okay. Hey, I have to go. Talk to you later. This time, I will call you." I told her.
"Deal. I will be waiting." She told me.
"Talk to you later, Tris." I told her.
We then hung up. I know what was bothering her. I just need time to do something before her wish comes true.
