He didn't say anything after that. We grabbed my things and then headed back to Tris's place. We walked in silence. I had a lot to think about anyway. I want her to know. I just don't know when. She deserves to know.

We got back to Tris's place right in time. Dinner was just about done. I took my things to where all the Dauntless sleeping in the basement. I then joined everyone at the table for dinner.

*Tris's POV*

It was nice having Four here. It just felt right. Tomorrow, I can probably show Four around town. Show him where I grow up. I think he might like that. He told me he wanted to get to know me. This would be a start.

All the Dauntless kids were hanging out in the basement where we were sleeping. I was lying on the blow-up bed. My head was resting on Four's lap. We were joking and having a grand old time. Austin was telling them stories about our past.

"I can't believe our little Tris was a quiet thing." Chris told me.

"I wasn't a quiet girl. I would rather keep to myself. Austin was the only one that got me." I told them.

"But you helped the football team." Lauran commented.

"Well, she was the smartest girl at the school. The coach wanted to keep the players' grades good." Austin told them.

"I wasn't the smartest one. I can't even pass Faction History." I told them.

"You are smart. You just not studying right." Four told me. I looked up to him and smiled. He has so much hope and believing in me.

"He is right, Tris. You are smart. I wouldn't have passed last year without you." Austin told me.

"I am wondering one thing. Who was the guy that stared at you when we were at the restaurant?" Shaunna asked me.

"What guy?" Four asked, looking at me and then our friends.

I just kept my mouth shut. Everyone here is my friend, but I don't know if I can tell them about my ex. It did hurt me and everything, mainly after homecoming. I looked over to Austin, and he gave me a small smile. He then said,

"Tris, they have the right to know. If you don't tell them, I might."

"Tris, who is he? Is he dangerous or something?" Zeke asked me, worried.

"No. He is my ex. He isn't dangerous. Just an asshole." I told them truthfully. I know they have the right to know. Mostly Four.

"There is more. She is holding back. Tris, you need to tell them about everything. Tell them why he is an asshole." Austin said out loud.

"What is he talking about?" Edward asked me, consured.

I looked at them. They deserve the right to know. Mostly when I can't stand him after what he did. I know there is going to be one person that is going to be hell-as pissed about it. I looked up to Four. He smiled to tell me everything was alright. I then said,

"We started to date at the beginning of last year. I thought he loved me. I fell in love with him. We were called the it couples. Or I thought we were until homecoming. That is when I found out the truth. We were nominated for Queen and King for homecoming. We won. But it was all a joke. I got up on the stage, and I got Carried. You know blood falls on you. It was fake blood with gunk in it. I was horrified. He was cheating on me the whole time with the head cheerleader."

"Are you kidding me? That is horrible. Tris, I am so sorry." Chris told me.

I looked up to Four to see what his face was. He looked pissed. I know he would be. Everyone looked sorry for me and everything. I tried to change the topic. It did little work. Everyone still looked sorry for me. Four just held me to let me know he was here.

*Four's POV*

I couldn't sleep last night. I just tossed and turned. I knew what had happened to her. It was always painful to hear it, but it made me hear it more from her mouth. There was a lot of pain when she told us. I tried to comfort her.

"Four, are you awake?" Tris asked beside me.

She rolled over and was face to-face with me. I smiled and said,

"Yeah, what's wrong?"

"You know you don't have to do anything stupid to that guy if we ever see him. It's in the past. I have a better life now that I have all of you guys." Tris told me.

I gave her a smile and said,

"Oh Tris, don't you worry. I won't scare him too much, but he needs to know that he made the worse description of his life doing that to you."

She gave me a smile and just leaned into my chest. I wrapped my arms around her and told her,

"Go back to sleep. I will tell you a story to help you."

*Tris' POV*

I lay there listening to Four's heartbeat. He wrapped his arms around me and started to tell me a story.

"There once was a boy different from his parents, but he was misunderstood. He was the outcast of them all. His father was close, and what happened in his home was never to be spoken of. Their family had a secret, and it was never to be told. His mother passed when he was young, and he was left with a very controlling father. But there was always one place where he could go to get away. A little magical forest that had this wonderful treehouse. He would spend days up there, and one day, the sweet little girl came and helped him out. She would bring him food and blankets. They would leave notes for each other. She was his angel, and he was her treehouse boy. Their connection grew over the years, but they never met face to face. But no one knew the truth about the poor boy. He started to grow up and stayed in the shadows. No one knew his name. The girl called him Treehouse Boy, but he was also known as other things. Soon, he left the father who never truly cared for him and started new, but he never forgot about his angel, which changed his life forever. But they will see each other again."

"What happened to the girl?" I asked, almost asleep.

"She stayed quiet and unseen and grew to be a wonderful woman. One day, she found out the truth about where she belonged and came to a place where she knew she was. The boy and girl meet again, but she doesn't know it's him. Sleep Tris. Sweet dreams." Four told me.

I dreamt of the boy in the treehouse and a few other memories that night. None of it made any sense. It reminded me of Four's story, but his story felt real. Like I have heard it or knew it somehow. I woke up jumping. I looked around, and I was still in Four arms, and he was sleeping. I sighed and got up. I walked upstairs and saw my mom was still awake. She smiled at me and asked,

"How did you sleep?"

"Alright, but I had weird dreams. Like something that deals with a treehouse and a little boy." I shared.

"Well, when you were younger, you would sneak out to the woods to see your friend who lived in a treehouse." My mother said.

"Wait, you knew about that? I thought I was sneaky." I asked.

"Of course, I knew about it. I let you do it because you were always happy to help. I couldn't stop you. You are stubborn like that. I think it was a boy who lived down the street who was the one staying up there, but I can't remember." My mother shared.

I nodded and remembered all the times with Treehouse Boy. I heard a noise and saw everyone waking up. There I was, face to face with Four. He smiled at me and said,

"Morning. Did you sleep alright?"

I nodded and asked,

"Would you want to go on a morning run with me?"

"Sounds great. Let me go and get ready." He went back downstairs.

I sighed. I was going to get my answers. I need them now more than ever. I have too many questions for him. I would take him to the place where it all began.

We didn't say much when we were running. But I did do what I was going to do. I took him to the treehouse. Where did it all begin? Where I met one of the best people in my life.

We then stopped to take a break. I went over to the swing and touched it. I must ask him, or I might have exploded. I then asked him,

"Four, the story you told me last night. Was that a true story?"

He didn't say anything right away. I know he was probably thinking his answer over. He then looked over to me and then answered,

"Yes."

Then, it all became clear to me. The girl in the story was just not anyone. It was me. Then that means… Four is the treehouse boy.

"You know this is one of my favorite spots to be. I come here whenever I need to get away from everyone to clear my head or do something. There were only a few people who knew that. But you are ready to know that Four. Or should I say, treehouse boy." I said to him.

He looked right at me and gave me a small smile. He didn't move from his spot. He just looked at me.

"Yeah. So, the story told it all." He said.

"Yeah. But why?" I asked.

"Why what?" He asked me.

"Why didn't you tell me when we first met? Why all the secrets?" I asked him.

I wasn't mad at him. I was just confused. I know the treehouse boy was always here because it wasn't good for him to be home. He didn't have anywhere else to go.

"Because I thought I was never going to see you again. So, I needed to start a new at school, and I did. But then you came, and everything changed. I never said anything because I thought it was better that way. Then I got close to you again. I couldn't hide it anymore from you." He told me.

I went closer to him. He didn't move from his spot. It was like he was stuck right there. I took his hand. I had a few more questions, but there was only one I really wanted to know.

"Are you also the shadow man?" I asked him.

He gave me a smile. He then said,

"Yes. I always wanted to protect you. You were my angel. I was not going to let anyone hurt you."

"That makes sense now. Why I never got hit, and everyone else has. You were my guardian angel. My project, Four." I told him.

*Four's POV*

I couldn't stand hearing her call me that. All I want to hear is her to say my name. The name I haven't heard in forever.

"Tris, I must tell you a few other things now. You know most of everything." I told her.

"Yeah. What is it?" She asked me.

"I came here to hide away because I couldn't be at my house anymore. It wasn't safe for me. My father used to bet me. So, I lost the one person who could protect me from it. I had to get out of there." I told her.

I could see her mind going. She was pasting everything together now. Then I saw it. She figured it all out.

"Four, there was a rumor that Marcus used to bet his son. Was that you?" She asked me.

"Yes. Marcus Eaton is my father. Which makes me Tobias Eaton." I told her.

"But everyone thinks Tobias Eaton is dead. How could that be?" She asked me, confused.

"When I finally left, he just said I was dead to make it easier and so people don't question him and his actions. But everything is true." I told her truthfully.

She stood there looking at me with sorrow. I really don't want her to look at me like that. But I know she can't help herself. It's who she is.

"I am so sorry, Four. I can't believe you went through that. It must be weird being here. I understand if you don't want to be here." She said to me.

"Tris, I won't lie to you. It is weird, and I don't like being so close to him. But for you, I will do it. I came here to be with you." I told her.

"Really?" She asked me.

"Really." I told her.

"Four…" She was saying. But I had to cut her off there.

"Tris, please don't call me that?" I asked her.

"Then what should I call you?" She asked.

"My real name." I told her.

"Okay, Tobias." She said.

I couldn't help but smile. I could never love hearing that name when it comes from her mouth. I looked at her. Standing here with her. Having Tris know everything now. It just felt perfect. It just felt right.
