"Do you honestly think Joey is going to be with you?" Dawson barked snidely throwing off his life jacket and coming up on his ex-best friend. "You won't graduate high school, you won't make anything of yourself, you're just going to be some loser townie who won't be anything." The blonde didn't wait pushing past him and heading toward the square.

"Don't listen to him." Will remarked with the toss of a hand stepping into the spot Dawson vacated.

Pacey caught sight of Joey across the square, her chestnut locks gleaming in the sun. "No, he's right…" Pacey swallowed, his mind on overdrive. "Will you help me?"

"Of course." Will raised his brow in confusion but nodded. "With what?"

One month later

Joey with a determined stride ran down the dock. "Pacey! Pacey!" When she got to the boat, she stopped in shock finding the True Love bobbing in the water, a film of dust and sea water covering the whole of the boat. "What?"

"Pacey's not here." Doug's voice startled her causing her to turn. Doug stood before her in uniform, an unknown expression on his face.

"Doug…" Joey stuttered in shock her eyes bouncing to the boat and Pacey's brother. "Where is he?"

Licking his lips Doug sighed crossing his arms across his chest. "Boot camp."

"B…boot camp? L…like military boot camp?" When Doug nodded Joey felt her heart clench in her chest. "W…why?"

"I don't know…but he came to me two weeks after the regatta saying Pop gave him permission and Will helped him get his GED."

"Where is he?" Joey repeated breathless, her mind racing.

Doug looked at her in sympathy, a soft smile on his lips. "He's at a Marine boot camp in San Diego."
