Two months later.

"He's graduating basic in a few days, then he's got a week of leave before he starts combat training school."

Joey's heart crumbled with Doug's words, her body shaking. "C…combat?"

Doug smiled at her sadly, nodding as he leaned against the porch rail of the bed and breakfast. "Once he's done with combat training, unless he has signed up for more, then they will send him into a permanent post."

"Oh my god." She had spent many nights up pacing her room, wondering how Pacey was and if he was okay. She realized that she had fallen in love with her archnemesis months ago, but he was already gone, thanks to Dawson. And now she would have a week maybe less to let him know that. "Let me know as soon as you hear from him."

"I will Joey." Doug nodded, offering her a polite smile before nodding to Bessie as he stepped off the porch.

"So, what's the word?" Bessie asked taking over the spot that Doug had vacated.

"Pacey is graduating from boot camp in a few days then he's coming back for like a week…" Joey cringed feeling the tears escape her eyes. "Some sort of leave, as Doug called it…then its combat training and I don't know when I'll see him after that."

"So, what are you going to do?"

"I don't know Bess…but I love him." Joey whimpered falling against the worn railing.

"I know you do Joey but what are you gonna do when he finishes training and gets deployed?" Joey's whimpers turned to tears as she shook her head.

Two days later Joey got the call she had been waiting for, Doug calling to say that he was picking up Pacey from the airport the next day. She made it clear that she was coming with him which just made him chuckle.

The drive to Boston's Logan Airport felt like days for Joey, the ache she's had for this man deepening by the minute. Following Doug to the gate she tried to keep calm, but she could feel herself losing breath waiting to see Pacey's handsome baby face.

When the sea of khaki exited the gate she held her breath, waiting.

"Hey, Dougie, I thought Pop…Jo…"

Her breath caught in her throat at the sight of him. He looked more lean and fit, his baby face was more chiseled, lines from his dimples down to his chin, even under the hideous color uniform she could see new muscles that sculpted him. He was downright sexy. "Hi…"

Pacey shook his head pulling off his cover, his eyes moving from his brother to the brunette. "What are you doing here? Does Dawson know you're here?"

"Don't know don't care." Joey breathed stepping up to him, her arms gliding up the arms of his pressed uniform. "I came here for you Pacey."

"Jo…" Her name came out in a breath before her hands slid up his arms, cupped his cheeks, pulling him in and capturing his lips.
