One could say that it all started with a harmless, common wish of all children who were the only child.
Adrien Agreste wished for a little brother or sister to play with.
The thing was... neither of his parents expected anything to come of it. But on his seventh birthday, something happened that would change everything.
A little boy about the same age as Adrien with adorable green eyes appeared on the lawn right after Adrien blew out the candles and made his wish.
For the first week, they sent out private investigators to find his family. Nothing. Not even a hint of where he had come from or how he got there.
Then they took him to a doctor... Mrs. Agreste was livid when she got the news of systematic abuse, neglect, and extremely bad parenting. No parent worth the title should ever call a child a "freak". Especially if the child was magical!
And hadn't that been a shock, learning that the boy-who-lived had been so hated and mistreated in his own home that he had latched onto Adrien's childish wish for a brother?
In less than a month, several things changed for the innocent boy who had teleported himself onto the lawn.
One, he now had a proper family who actually WANTED him. Especially the rather enthusiastic Adrien who was glad his wish came true.
Two, he was now legally a French citizen, complete with a brand new name. Never again would he be called a 'freak'. His new name was Christopher Agreste, or Chris for short.
Three, and this was all he currently cared about seeing as how he was going to have to learn French, he was discreetly enrolled into a magical school in deep in a relatively untouched part of France called Beauxbatons Academy for the Magical Arts, or Beauxbatons for short.
Apparently because of his 'status', all the official documents had been pushed through much faster than normal and the entire thing kept hush-hush from England. He didn't get it, but after having people poke and prod him with sticks, he was just glad they quit staring at his scar.
A scar that was quietly removed by 'medi-wizards' six months later and some parasite permanently taken out.
Eight years later...
A cheerful voice was whistling as he walked up to a school in Paris.
For the past four years he had attended a rather exclusive school boarding school. This year he decided to cut a lot of needless studying short and took the advancement tests a full year early. It wasn't that they were that hard... O.W.L.'s were mostly a formality to take the N.E.W.T.s exams in two years.
And after that mess last year with the Tri-Wizard tournament, which only seemed to prove the leading theory that the Boy-who-lived was rendered a squib by whatever he did to take out the Dark Lord (at least that was the OFFICIAL story anyway).
The Malfoy family had tried to claim the vaults (mostly on the basis they had a claim via the Blacks) but the goblins cut them and any other attempts off by informing all comers that the owner of the Potter vaults had already claimed them and had the records sealed on his request. The bulk of the vaults were moved to France as a result.
Thanks to a rather hurried conversation with his father, Chris would be attending the same school and classes as his twin brother.
At the moment Adrien was off at a photo shoot and wouldn't be back for two days at the least.
Which meant Chris could be up to all sorts of no good before he surprised his brother.
His grin widened slightly. This was going to be hilarious.
"Everyone, I'd like to introduce a transfer student. I know it's a little sudden, but he'll be with us for the rest of the year."
"Hi. I'm Chris," said the boy with a black cap and a pair of glasses on that were just tinted enough to make it hard to see what color his eyes were. His hair was up in his cap, making it hard to tell what color it was, and the cap itself cast his eyebrows into shadow.
"Chris, why don't you take Adrien's seat for now? He won't be back for another day, so we can find another one when he returns," sais Miss Bustier.
"Yes Ma'am," he said politely.
Nino looked at Chris, and held out a hand.
"Hi, I'm Nino. That's Alya and Marinette."
"Hi," said Marinette.
"So why'd you transfer?" asked Alya. She had a nose for a good scoop, and this had all the earmarks of one.
"In the boarding school I attended, we had these advancement tests. I took mine early, but it's rather specialized so my dad agreed to let me join my twin brother in his school until next year, or until the next set of tests. Though my brother has no idea I'm here, and I want to surprise him."
"Who's your brother?" asked Alya.
"Not telling~" said Chris with a grin.
For the most part Chris was a cheerful, but rather strange teenager. He never took off his tinted glasses (apparently he had trouble reading small print) and he always wore a cap that hid his hair and most of his face.
It wasn't until Adrien came back and found the new kid that things became really interesting.
"Who's in my seat?" asked Adrien to Nino.
"Transfer student. He won't say where he's coming from, only that his brother attends this school," said Nino.
Adrien walked up to the kid.
"Hi, I'm Adrien," he said, holding out his hand.
What happened next had everyone buzzing either from shock or disbelief.
Chris took one look at Adrien, grinned evilly, then proceeded to hum some strange song that had Adrien's eyes widened in shock.
"Did you miss me?"
"Chris?! I thought you were in Beauxbatons!"
"I took the tests early, so they let me come home for the year. Makes it easier to keep up with the regular studies anyway, since it's too specialized," said Christ, removing his hat and switching his glasses to a pair of contacts.
Most of the girls were stunned into silence.
"T-t-two Adriens?" said Chloe in shock.
"Adrien, what's going on?" asked Marinette.
"This is my twin brother Christopher. He attended an invitation-only boarding school for the past four years. Why didn't you say you were coming?"
"And ruin all the fun of seeing your face when you realized who I was?"
Adrien grinned, looking a lot happier than anyone had ever seen him.
Later that night...
Ladybug noticed something was going on with Chat. He looked far happier than he should be while dealing with an akuma.
"Something good happen today?"
"Someone I haven't seen in four years came home early. Knowing him he's probably reacquainting himself to a certain addiction that's in his room. They don't really have games in his school."
Chris was a Dance Dance Revolution and Guitar Hero nut. He could play extreme mode on both at the same time without missing a beat. Which was kinda weird to watch considering he had to keep one eye trained on both screens while moving his feet and fingers.
He was a major multi-tasker like that.
With the akuma dealt with, Adrien headed straight home without trying to flirt with Ladybug.
And was immediately busted by Chris with Plagg in full view. To be fair, he wasn't expecting his brother to be in his room with a camera already prepped.
Chris had an odd look on his face.
"And here I was hoping to catch some typical teenage rebellion. You're Chat Noir?" he said with some amusement. Adrien winced.
"You can't tell dad. Or Natalie," he said quickly.
Chris rolled his eyes.
"I still haven't told anyone that I'm actually the missing Boy-who-lived. As far as I'm concerned, the fact you put on a leather outfit and have a weird familiar is about as newsworthy as my birthname. Your secret's safe with me, and I can probably cover for you. I got a time-turner and it's not like we haven't switched places before."
Adrien relaxed. If Chris gave you his word, he always kept it. Even if it was something major like the secret identity of Chat Noir.
"Sooo hungry..." said Plagg.
"So what does your weird familiar like?"
"*sigh* Camembert cheese, or any stinky cheese really."
"I'll have a cheese platter sent up to my room. So does he have a name?"
"I'm Plagg."
"Nice to meet you Plagg. I'm Christopher, or Chris for short. Do you mind if I interview you for my magical familiar thesis for my Nastily Excruciating Wizards Tests in a few years? There's no rule that I can't write it now and submit it later."
"You feed me cheese like Camembert, and I'll tell you as much as you want provided it's allowed."
"Past owners and personal history okay?" asked Chris.
"That should be safe enough. This does explain why Adrian took to his powers so fast."
Adrien had declined the invitation to Beauxbatons, mostly because he was just starting as a model. Instead he had a plethora of magical tutors. Like Chris, he had taken his exams early in the hopes of attending normal school this year.
He had gotten straight "Exceeds Expectations" across the board, though his charms, potions and transfiguration were rated Outstanding.
Chris had gotten almost straight Outstandings, save for Arithimancy. His calculus needed work, and he had barely scrapped together an Exceeds Expectations.
One lousy decimal point had nearly given him an Acceptable.
It was still really weird, seeing the Agreste twins sitting together. Nino hadn't given up his seat, but they had added an extra one next to him and Adrien.
Adrien fully admitted he was using his brother as Chloe repellent.
It wasn't that he hated Chloe...he just found her a bit much to deal with.
Chloe seemed over the moon finding out Adrien had an almost identical twin brother.
"So Chris, you interested in an interview now?" asked Alya, holding her phone.
"Sure, I'm game. I just didn't want to spoil the fun of seeing Adrien's expression when he realized I had transferred into his school," grinned Chris. Alya snickered in agreement.
"So which school did you transfer from?"
"Beauxbaton's Academy for the Arts. They don't really have a website, but I've heard some forums are dedicated to the top three schools in Europe," said Chris. He made a face. "Of course the ratio of girls to boy is tipped more in the girl's favor. There' less than a hundred boys in a school of about four hundred and fifty, and very few of them are above thirteen at the moment."
He was one of thirty to have hit puberty, and none of the other boys were as "handsome" as he was. In a school filled with mostly girls, you would think that was a good thing.
Far from it. After his first attempt at dating, he had sworn off the entire thing until he was out of magical schooling and the ratio was a bit more even.
The irony being that his best friends were both female, Veela, and suspected he might be gay because he had little to no interest in them.
"So what did you specialize at that school?"
"Dance, martial arts, and music," said Chris without skipping a beat. Adrien couldn't help the snicker when he heard the word dance.
"What's so funny?" asked Marinette.
"You're talking to the Dance Dance Revolution champion of France for the past four years. Chris can dance to any song on the game in extreme mode without looking after the first five seconds. He's that good at it."
"Prove it," said Alya, not believing that.
Adrien grinned, and hummed several bars of a popular song. Chris couldn't help himself, and Alya was quick to catch him moving his feet and legs to match a very rapid pace of dance.
At the end of it she was staring at Chris in disbelief.
"He has a pair of full machines and updates it as often as possible to enjoy the new songs. And I've seen him play Guitar Hero while dancing in extreme mode for both without missing a note," said Adrien grinning.
"That is some serious multitasking."
"Makes doing research and studying for exams way easier. At least the books don't change as rapidly as the games," said Chris.
"So do you model like your brother?"
"Only when Adrien wants a break. We switch places and Dad never catches on," grinned Chris.
"So do you have a girlfriend?"
"I've decided to wait until I'm eighteen and old enough to enjoy it. Considering I was outnumbered by girls, it made things less hectic long term."
"What's your opinion on Chat Noir and Ladybug?"
"Ladybug is pretty hot, and Chat Noir is a big goofball."
Marinette managed to reign in her blush...barely. Adrien grinned at his brother when he called him a goofball. To be fair, that word suited his brother better.
Chris was always up to mischief when he was bored.
