Then

Lily was in pure survival mode at the moment. The second the door was blown open, she ran up towards her son's room. She could hear James' death and fought back the tears. She would have time to grieve later once she was safely away from their attacker.

She never thought that Voldemort himself would show up!

Working on autopilot, she threw everything she would need to travel with her son. Around her neck was an odd pendant that she had never taken off even once since finding out that there was a so-called prophecy that would put her son directly onto the Dark Lord's Must Kill list.

The diaper bag full, she went straight to her son and picked him up.

There were wards to prevent apparition and port keys, and Voldemort was between her and the floo. There was no way a witch could possibly escape in this scenario...not without taking some extreme measures.

Fortunately Lily was more than a mere witch.

[Teleport set.]

The mystery voice came from around Lily's neck. The odd necklace everyone had dismissed as a piece of odd muggle jewelry was now radiating a surprising amount of magical energy.

Voldemort arrived just as the circle was a scant second away from activating.

It was a good thing that her home world was one of the preset coordinates on her Device, otherwise it would have taken longer.

Voldemort realized that something was happening that was not in his calculations and beyond his control the moment he saw the unfamiliar circle.

He didn't hesitate.

"Avada...!"

The moment the curse was about to hit, Lily and her son teleported to another world entirely. The rebound from the magics involved caused the curse to reflect, killing Voldemort instead and turning him into a shade. It also caused an explosion, which resulted in the roof in the nursery caving in. The protective spells around the crib kept the debris from falling inside, but it was clear something had happened in the house.

Lily had no idea the repercussions of her actions, or the chaos caused when certain people arrived at the house and failed to find her or her son.

She also had no idea the headaches caused when the goblins kept the fact that both the mother and son survived, which meant the vaults were out of reach of the Ministry.

She would be less than pleased that the headmaster had written her off as dead, and claimed her son had been placed into hiding as the "boy-who-lived" when her past finally caught up to them.

Now

It was a perfectly ordinary day when the world was turned upside down. Metaphorically, that is.

Yuuno was staying with Nanoha, mostly to help her and Fate cram for the special tests to become full members of the TSAB rather than "civilian consults". Besides, Nanoha's grades had been slipping a little and Yuuno had the odd knack of breaking down the material into a way she could easily remember.

Lindy had once joked Yuuno was a natural teacher.

So you could imagine their confusion finding an owl that wasn't a familiar carrying a letter.

"Who is Harry Potter?" said Fate in confusion.

It looked like an official missive for a school of all things, but it would be rude to open up a letter to someone else. The owl made it clear that they weren't going to let anyone but Yuuno take the letter from it, so he reluctantly did so. He promptly backed off the second he felt magic coming off of it when his hand got close enough, before getting a pair of special tools to remove the letter (it looked like parchment) without any of the odd foreign magics coming into contact with his own.

You never knew what sort of things you could pick up from an unknown magic. While most people might call him overly paranoid, the simple fact was that Yuuno's mother had drilled in the fact that one should never pick up an unknown object that had magic coming off it. He had taken it to heart, which was the main reason none of the Jewel Seeds had gone active when he discovered them and sent them to the TSAB for safe keeping.

At least until Prescia's actions caused them to be scattered and ended up leading him to meet Nanoha and the others anyway.

"What are you going to do with it?" asked Fate.

Yuuno put it into a special box he always kept with him. His mother had called it a 'magical Faraday cage', whatever that was. It kept foreign magics from activating or touching him while the box was closed.

He immediately dialed a very familiar number.

"Yuu-nii! Did you finally get a girlfriend?" said a young girl about a year younger than Yuuno with familiar green eyes.

"Yuriko, is Mom there?" asked Yuuno.

"Hang on a moment Yuu-nii. Mom! Yuuno's calling for you!" said Yuriko.

Nanoha and Fate looked at Yuuno with amusement.

"Who is that?" asked Fate.

"My younger sister Yuriko. Mom was pregnant with her when dad died and we were forced to move back with the clan. She didn't want the man who murdered dad to find us," said Yuuno.

The girl's faces immediately went sympathetic.

"Yuu-chan! What's this I heard about you finally asking one of those cute girls to be your girlfriend?" said Yuuno's mom. Her hair was as red as Nanoha's, and she shared the same green eyes as her children.

"Mom, for the last time I don't see Nanoha or Fate that way. They're more like my sisters," said Yuuno, his voice that of long-suffering. "Anyway that's not why I called."

Nanoha and Fate were trying hard not to laugh at the tone of Yuuno's voice.

His mother gave a mock-pout.

"I notice you didn't say a word about that Hayate girl."

"Mom!" said Yuuno embarassed beyond belief. He just knew Fate or Nanoha would say something to Hayate now!

"So why the sudden call, Yuu-chan?" she asked.

"An owl just showed up with a letter for someone named Potter Harry, and it would only let me take it. The outside of the letter even had the room listed and had a weird crest,"said Yuuno.

His mother's expression went fixed.

"Did this letter happen to have a bird, a badger, a snake and a lion on it with the name Hogwarts?" she asked.

Yuuno carefully flipped the letter over.

"It looks that way," he said after looking a little closely.

"I had the feeling this might happen. I was hoping you'd accidentally miss the cut-off date for new students while you were off-world, but I suppose it was inevitable this would come out," she said unhappily. "Yuu-chan, the letter wasn't mislabeled. It was using your original name from when we lived on earth before Yuriko was born."

"What?" said Yuuno in absolute shock.

"Your father was a 'wizard', which is what they call male mages, that came from a long magical bloodline on Earth. There is an entire society of 'wizards' and 'witches' on the Earth, but they have a strict code of secrecy since there were a few purges that got out of hand," said his mother tiredly. "As such unless you already know where to go or have the luck to stumble into one of their enclaves, it's nearly impossible to find it."

Nanoha and Fate were stunned.

"There's a mage society on Earth?" said Nanoha in shock.

Yuuno's mother looked at her.

"Takamachi Nanoha, right? There is a society, but the enclave Yuuno was born into only brings in 'new blood' once they turn eleven. That's when they're considered 'old' enough to hold the focus most 'wizards' use on Earth...at least in England anyway. I suppose if you girls are really interested, we could make arrangements for you to attend with Yuuno as international transfers. I know there were a few from Asia that attended when I went to school there anyway."

Yuuno had an odd look on his face.

"Is that why you weren't shocked when I managed to turn myself into a ferret when I was eight?" he asked.

"They call people who turn into animals animagi. Your father took the form of a large stag, and his best friend slash cousin took the form of a large black dog," said his mother helpfully. "My old teacher could turn into a cat."

She wouldn't mention that traitor Peter. The only way Voldemort could have found them was if that bastard had given up their location. She had never trusted him, but James and Sirius insisted.

"I think we need to talk to Lindy-kaa-san about this," said Fate.

There was no way the TSAB wouldn't be interested in a hidden magical society...not when it was from the same planet as Hayate and Nanoha. The odds of finding equally powerful mages that could add to their ranks was too tempting to ignore.

Particularly since they had access to a female mage that had successfully infiltrated it before, and had given them an easy access point into their society!

The second Lindy heard about a 'secret magical society' hidden on Earth, she took it to her superiors. And they were very interested in seeing if it was worth making contact.

Which was why Yuuno's mother...who's name was Lily...was giving those being sent in a "crash course" so to speak, about what she knew of the society from the viewpoint of a mage.

"The first thing you have to understand about the English magical society is that it's very isolated. They have limited knowledge of electricity and have a bad habit of looking down on those from mundane origins like I appeared to be because they see us as threats to their fantasy view of how things are."

"Exactly how bad are we talking about here?" asked Lindy.

Lily winced.

"Sirius' parents were second cousins and I know for a fact Molly Prewitt married her third cousin Arthur by tricking him with a love potion their seventh year. Last I checked she had two boys, but I have no idea how many of my old friends had children. Inbreeding is a major problem there as they only marry into lines that are 'pure' enough, but at this point most of the older bloodlines have become so intermingled that finding one that doesn't have at least three or more common ancestors is nearly impossible," admitted Lily.

Lindy cringed at the mere thought.

"And they never considered marrying outside their country?" asked Fate appalled.

"British wizards have an overinflated sense of superiority," said Lily bluntly. "They likely think marrying outside of British stock 'beneath' them or some such nonsense. James was considered an oddball and a 'blood traitor' because he married an apparent 'muggleborn', which is what they call those from mundane origins. Yuu-chan would be considered a 'half-blood' because of it."

"And my superiors think sending in half-trained children is a smart idea," said Lindy, already regretting this. It sounded like a mess and a half, and they weren't even in this school yet!

"Unfortunately the best way to infiltrate their society is through the school. Most of the 'old bloods' and the more influential muggleborns go through there at some point, as do a number of half-bloods. There are trade schools, but Hogwarts is considered the best because it's been a fixture in English magical society for the past thousand years. However the recent strife with Voldemort might have caused a few...changes. I haven't been back to Earth since I fled the night my husband was murdered," said Lily.

"I really don't like this," said Lindy.

"If it helps, I do know my way around and at least I can act as their magical guardian so no one can attempt to entrap them through a magical contract."

"That would be a big help," said Lindy with relief. If what Lily said was true, then it was doubtful they'd accept Lindy's authority as part of the TSAB. Having someone considered 'local' and was already an adult in their eyes would help ease a lot of her concerns.

"Besides, Yuuno needs to go through at least two years of schooling at Hogwarts to claim his inheritance and I still need to list Yuriko as a member of the Potter family," said Lily. "I'm sure you'll love the Hogwarts library, as they have a plethora of books that have been collecting dust...figuratively speaking...since it was first created."

After all, no house elf would dare allow the Hogwarts library to collect dust.

"So Yuuno, Fate, Nanoha, Vita and Hayate will be going in as students...provided the school accepts them of course," said Lindy.

"Yuuno was marked as a potential student when he was born, and so long as the girl's magical potential is high enough and they afford the fees, I don't see that being a problem," said Lily. "We could probably get an acceptance letter for them if we go through the goblins...the Ministry is too chaotic and they might charge us extra if we tried to go through them."

She had no idea of the headache they were about to walk into when she said that.
