I've been waiting for this since I started the fic. It's entrance exam time lads. Let's do this.
Already Peter was uncomfortable. He knew going in he would have to deal with this, but that didn't mean he was happy about it.
All around him, people were pointing and whispering.
"Is that the Spider-Man?"
"He really is going here?"
"Crap, that means it'll be harder to get in."
Peter tried his best to ignore them, but that was a bit hard for somebody with super hearing.
"Hey! You! You're that damn Spider-freak, aren't you?" An angry voice came from behind Peter. Turning to face it's owner, he saw a kid with red eyes and spiky blonde hair.
"It's Spider-Man actually. Common mistake, don't worry about it. Who are you?"
"...Katsuki Bakugo. You probably think you're hot shit for taking down a few small time heroes. Well don't get cocky. You're just a pebble in my path, waiting to be kic-"
Bakugo's rant was cut short by a web to his mouth.
"Listen man, I really don't like people like you. It's fine to have ambition, but you shouldn't put others down just because you think you're the best. Also, don't ever call Mirko a small time hero. She's taken good care of me these past few months and is very important to me. Please don't insult her."
Peter spoke very slowly and calmly, knowing that would make the blonde boy angrier.
"Now, this can go one of two ways. You can calm down, and I'll take the web off for you. Or, you can stay angry, and wait 2 hours for it to dissolve."
The blonde tried to shout angrily, but his voice was muffled by the webs.
"Dissolve it is. I'd advise you to keep your mouth closed. I've heard the web fluid tastes really gross when it melts."
Turning his back on the furious blonde kid, Peter walked into the building, ignoring his unintelligible shouts.
The day started simply enough. He was led into an auditorium where he and all the prospective students were told they had 30 minutes to complete the written test. Turning his sheet over, Peter was surprised by how easy it was.
"This is the top school in the country? This is nothing compared to the tests Mr. Stark gave me." Peter almost laughed, but bit it back when he remembered they had to stay silent.
Thirty minutes went by quickly, and Peter was sure he'd gotten every question right. A voice over the intercom told the seated heroes-to-be to wait patiently. Before long, the hippy guy walked on stage.
"WELCOME TO TODAY'S ENTRANCE EXAM EVERYONE! CAN I GET A HEY!"
Peter was a bit annoyed by the volume, but he liked the guy's energy. Besides, he kind of owed him for the whole restraining him on live TV thing, so while everybody else stayed silent, Peter rose from his seat and yelled "HEY!" as loud as he could.
There were a few snickers from the crowd, but the hippie guy looked happy that somebody had responded.
"ALRIGHT! I LIKE YOU LITTLE LISTENER!"
"He probably wouldn't be saying that if he could see who it was." everybody in the audience thought simultaneously.
LOOK HERE LITTLE LISTENERS! I AM HERE TO PRESENT THE GUIDELINES OF YOUR PRACTICAL EXAM! IS EVERYBODY READY?! GIVE ME A YEAH!"
Again, Peter rose.
"YEAH!" he shouted.
More snickers, and some people were flat-out laughing at him. One blue-haired kid with glasses sent a death glare his way.
"YEAH! AT LEAST I'VE GOT AN AUDIENCE! NOW, AS YOUR NOTICES SAID, YOU'LL ALL BE THROWING DOWN IN OUR TOTALLY AWESOME BATTLE CENTERS! THAT'S RIGHT BOYS AND GIRLS, YOU'RE GOING TO BE TOTALLY ROCKING OUT IN A TEN MINUTE MOCK BATTLE. YEEAAHH!"
"YEEAAHH!"
Peter got the entire crowd laughing now. He could hear muffled screams of rage and looked down to see the Bakugo kid from earlier, webs still covering his mouth. Peter sent him a bright smile, which only made him yell louder.
The display behind Present Mic changed, now showing a map of the auditorium and 7 city-looking areas.
"ALRIGHT LITTLE LISTENERS! GET READY, CAUSE I'M ABOUT TO EXPLAIN THE RULES FOR YOU! OKAAY!?
"OKAY!"
Peter was honestly having fun with this. He didn't mind being laughed at, and it looked like he was making the hippie happy.
"IN THIS MOCK-EXAM, THERE WILL BE 3 TYPES OF ROBOTS, EACH WORTH A DIFFERENT AMOUNT OF POINTS! YOUR GOAL IS TO SMASH AS MANY AS YOU CAN BEFORE THE TIME LIMIT RUNS OUT!
Alright, that sounded simple enough. Peter had fought robots before, so this probably wouldn't be any trouble.
"Wait a minute sir, this handout we were given clearly shows that there are 4 types of robots. If this is a mistake, it needs to be corrected immediately, lest it taint the image of such a prestigious university as UA." The glasses kid spoke up.
"Jesus man, you're this worked up over that?" Peter thought, annoyed.
"And you," he pointed to some kid with green hair a few rows down, next to Bakugo. "Cease you muttering at once. It's distracting and I find it hard to believe you are taking this seriously."
That did it. Peter stood from his seat and faced the glasses kid.
"Hey, just calm down, alright? We're all nervous all right? If the kid wants to mutter, let him mutter. Don't get angry just because you think it's annoying."
"You," glasses stared at Peter now. "You've been shouting this entire time. Are you taking this seriously at all? Do you even know what we're doing?"
"Fake cities, robots, points, smash robots for points. And I only yelled when the hippie down there asked us to. You on the other hand are making a scene and bothering everybody for no reason."
Glasses paled before facing Present Mic. "I apologize for the interruption Sensei." He quickly bowed before sitting back down.
"NOT A PROBLEM LITTLE LISTENER! AS FOR THE 4TH ROBOT, YOU DON"T NEED TO WORRY ABOUT THAT. IT'S WORTH ZERO POINTS. DESTROYING IT WILL GAIN YOU NOTHING. IT'S MORE OF AN OBSTACLE THAN ANYTHING."
"I see, I apologize." Glasses muttered, still embarrassed.
"ALRIGHT YOUNG HEROES! IF YOU'LL TAKE A LOOK AT THE CARDS YOU WERE GIVEN WHEN YOU GOT HERE, YOU'LL FIND A LETTER TELLING YOU WHICH BATTLE CENTER TO GO TO. OKAY EVERYBODY! HEAD OUT!"
Peter looked at his card, which said 'battle center D' on it. Leaving the auditorium, he saw buses outside, each marked with a letter. Boarding bus D, he settled down and waited.
"Hey, you're him. The Spider-Man, right?"
Peter faced his right, where he saw a kid with spiky red hair and a small scar over his right eye.
"I'd ask you to keep it quiet, but I guess there's no point since everybody knows me. My name's Peter Parker." He extended his hand to the red-haired kid.
"Eijirou Kirishima. Pleasure to meet you."
"Thanks Eijirou. Er, Kirishima, sorry. I'm still not used to calling people by their last names." Peter added, embarrassed.
"Hey, it's cool man. Call me whatever. A manly man like you doesn't need to ask permission."
"Manly? Me?"
"Yeah dude! You've fought pros and won! You even beat the number 5 hero. And now you're trying to better yourself and become a proper hero. That's super manly."
"I like this guy. He's a little energetic, but he seems nice."
"If you say so Eijirou. Just call me Peter, alright?"
"Sure man, whatever you want."
The bus pulled to a stop and all the examinees stepped off. In front of them was a massive gate, beyond which Peter could see a city.
"Hey, Peter. You aren't just gonna go in like that are you? Where's your suit?" Kirishima asked curiously.
"Hm? Oh, right, thanks for reminding me." Peter tapped the spider-shaped container and his suit formed around him. Everybody nearby looked in amazement at Peter's suit.
"That...is...AWESOME!" Kirishima yelled excitedly. "Where did you get that?"
"My mentor made it for me."
Before KIrishima could ask any more questions, Present Mic's voice came over the loudspeakers.
"ALRIGHT EXAMINEES, GO!"
While everybody else charged through the gates, Peter hung back.
"Grab onto me and hold tight." He said.
"Huh? Okay, but why?" Eijirou responded.
Not answering, Peter shot two weblines onto the top corners of the massive gate, pulling them back.
"Wait, what're you-"
Peter pulled his legs off the ground, launching Kirishima, who was clinging to his back, and himself far into the city, way past all the other examinees.
"HOLY CRAP!" Kirishima yelled in his ear.
Angling his body, Peter shot another web line onto a nearby building, slowing their descent to the street. Peter landed lightly, dropping his new friend next to him.
"You good?" Peter asked.
"Hell yeah! I'm fired up now. Let's do our best Peter!" He held up a fist, his arm hardening and becoming contoured.
Leaving Eijirou to find his own robots, Peter went down the street until he saw a mob of 2 pointers, 6 of them in total.
"This should be fun." Peter charged directly towards them. He shot a web line into the ground behind them and yanked himself forward, his free hand angled forward in a fist.
He flew through all the robots, creating massive holes and toppling them like bowling pins. Not stopping, Peter continued looking for more robots.
About 2 minutes passed, and Peter had destroyed plenty more robots. He had stopped counting after 70 points, so he wasn't sure how many he currently had. He now found himself perched on a building, looking down at a large clearing filled with robots and students. He saw one kid with a tail who appeared to be surrounded and in trouble, so Peter moved towards him to help.
Springing off the building, he landed directly on top of a 1 pointer's head, crushing it completely. He then moved on to the other robots surrounding the tail kid, pulling them away from him so he could destroy them.
"Thank you for your help." He thanked Peter.
"No problem dude, just helping where I can."
Peter saw another student, one with horse-like legs and horns on her head, who was having trouble.
Running to a nearby lampost, Peter webbed the building behind it and pulled himself roughly towards the post. Catching the side with his hands, he spun around it a few times before releasing, flying feet first towards the girl. He soared like a missile, crashing straight through multiple robots before punching the remaining one's head off.
"Thank you." She bowed lightly."
"Just doing my job." Peter responded as he swung off again.
The Monitor Room
"We have some interesting students this year." Nezu remarked."
"Indeed. They're all making use of their strengths. The information gatherers, the tactical fighters, and the raging berserkers have all found their place." Midnight agreed."
"Then there's Mirko's boy, Peter. He's done very well. We're barely 3 minutes in and he's already got nearly a hundred villain points." Snipe sounded impressed.
"And he hasn't looked away from his fellow students in need either. He's stopped to help whoever needs him." Thirteen commented as one of the screens showed Peter holding a robot with his webs while a large boy with big lips destroyed it.
"He's certainly interesting." Nezu noted.
The Training Grounds
"Whoo. I'm actually enjoying this." Peter laughed to himself as he casually used his webs to toss two 3 pointers together, demolishing them.
He heard a yell of pain and saw a small boy with clawed fingers take a hit to the side from a 2 pointer. He was quickly mobbed by several robots, totally surrounding him.
"Crap, they're too spread out. Gonna need some help for this."
As Peter ran to the boy, he activated the Iron Spider's armaments. 4 large, metallic spider legs sprouted from the back of his suit. He dashed into the crowd of robots, punching and kicking them apart. Whichever ones he didn't hit, the spider legs impaled, quickly destroying the robots' critical components.
The Monitor Room
"WHAT THE HELL?!" Power Loader sprang out of his chair, a look of disbelief on his face as he stared at the screen showing Peter. "His suit doesn't have a compartment or storage area. Anybody can see that it fits against his skin. Where did those come from!?" He questioned madly, desperately wanting an answer.
"Did you know he could do that Mirko?" Recovery Girl asked, also surprised.
"I...I had no idea. I've never seen those before."
Mirko had been allowed to sit in on the viewing to see how Peter did, and she couldn't hide her shock at the spider legs. Her shock quickly turned to annoyance however.
"Kid's been keeping secrets. We're gonna have a talk about this later." She lightly growled.
"Principal, there's only 3 minutes left. Is it time?" Midnight questioned.
"I suppose there's no reason to keep them waiting any longer." Nezu smiled as he pressed a large red button.
The Training Grounds
Peter could feel the ground shaking beneath him, along with the buildings.
"What's going on?" One examinee shouted fearfully.
His question was soon answered. A massive green hand gripped the top of a building, before a large robot came into view. It dwarfed the buildings around it by a considerable margin.
Many of the examinees fled fearfully, while Peter merely shrugged.
"Meh, I've fought bigger." He thought to himself.
He was about to leave and find more robots to destroy when he saw something. There was a group of examinees, about 5 of them, all trapped under rubble. When the zero pointer gripped the building, it had likely broken off pieces of it, which then landed on the group.
"Damn, it's always something." Peter complained as he dashed towards them. There were too many to web in time and the robot would reach them by the time Peter lifted the rubble and cleared them out. So he did the only thing he could do. He reached the group just before the robot's foot came down and stood there.
He watched as the robot's foot descended towards him.
"Come on Peter. Come on Spider-Man. You got this. Yougotthisyougotthisyougotthis!"
Peter yelled internally as the foot dropped on top of him. Peter raised his arms and CAUGHT the foot, holding it in the air and keeping it from crushing the others.
"Jesus Christ this thing is heavy. HEY! CAN SOMEBODY HELP THESE GUYS?! I'M A BIT BUSY RIGHT NOW!"
"PETER!" a voice responded to his yell.
Peter turned ever so slightly and saw Kirishima running towards him.
"IGNORE ME! GET THE RUBBLE OFF THEM AND HELP THEM GET AWAY!
"But-"
"NOW EIJIROU!"
The hardening user looked conflicted, but eventually complied and lifted the mass of rubble away. As he was doing that, the zero pointer began putting more weight on its foot, forcing Peter down lower. His legs broke through the street, creating holes in the concrete.
"HURRY UP!"
"I'M TRYING!"
The rubble now gone, Kirishima was helping the trapped examinees to move away. When only one was left, the weight of the zero pointer became practically unbearable.
"Okay that's it. I'm done. Come on Peter. You lifted stuff heavier than this before. I've done it once…"
"And," Peter groaned as he rose to his feet, pushing the zero-pointer's foot up slowly. "I can do it," he continued pushing the foot upwards, now standing at his full height. Far down the street, a crowd of examinees watched, amazed by Peter's strength.
"AGAIN!" Peter shouted, his voice full of energy and determination. He forced the massive foot back as hard as he could. He used so much force that the robot's other foot came off the ground. For a few seconds, Peter held the zero-pointer above his head before tossing at away. The robot flew for a few dozen meters before landing on it's back. The entire fake city shook from the impact.
The Monitor Room
To say the room was chaos would be a total understatement.
"HOLY FUCKING SHIT!" Was the general consensus among all the teachers watching.
The only ones who remained calm were Mirko, who knew to expect greatness from Peter, Nezu, and Aizawa, who controlled themselves but still looked greatly impressed.
"HOW STRONG IS THIS KID?!" Snipe shouted.
"He," All Might's voice boomed through the room. "isn't quite on my level, but he's certainly very strong. He could probably even injure me if I took one of his hits."
The room went deathly quiet. In all the history of quirks, nobody had a quirk that came anywhere near the level of All Might's in terms of strength. That was still true, but now the man himself was acknowledging the boy's power, and that said something.
"I'm not sure if I should be terrified or amazed." Ectoplasm breathed out.
The Training Grounds
"HOLY SHIT PETER! ARE YOU OKAY?!"
Peter heard Eijirou's concerned yell, but he didn't say anything. He currently had so much adrenaline pumping through his veins he was practically numb.
There was a problem though. They had saved the trapped group, but there was still about a minute left and the zero pointer was slowly climbing to its feet. He could have just left, but because of all the adrenaline, Peter was excited and wasn't really thinking properly. He wanted to finish the robot off.
Then Peter got an idea.
"Hey, Eijirou, I kind of got an idea of your abilities from watching you fight, but your quirk let's you harden your skin, right?"
"Huh? Well, yeah? Why?"
"So you're capable of taking really damaging hits that could kill a normal person with barely a scratch to show for it?" Peter inquired.
"Yeah, probably. Can you tell me what you're planning?" Kirishima's voice was slowly becoming more and more panicked.
"Not much." Peter sprayed a small amount of webbing from his wrist, allowing it to hang loosely. "Just itching to throw a fastball."
Finally Kirishima understood, and the plan made him smile.
"You're crazy, you know that? Alright, I'm in."
Kirishima made his entire body as hard as he possibly could and tucked into a ball. Peter shot 4 strands of webbing onto his back and swung him in a circle around his body a few times.
When the zero-pointer finally found its footing, Peter released him. Eijirou shot towards the zero-pointer like a cannonball. He moved so quickly he was nothing more than a red blur, doing countless flips as he tore through the air. The zero-pointer did nothing to stop him.
Kirishima hit its face plate and kept going, tearing completely through its head and emerging from the other side, none of his momentum lost. [1]
"Oh crap. I didn't think this part through." Peter yelled in concern.
He sprinted forward, running up the leg of the dead zero-pointer, now falling backwards with a massive hole through its head. Peter continued running across it fast enough to blur. When he reached the robot's neck, he shot 2 web lines at the top of its head and launched himself forward, flying after Kirishima, who was still in a ball, flipping through the air.
Finally close enough to him, Peter webbed the human cannonball and pulled him towards him. Holding him safely on his back, Peter shot countless webs between the two buildings in front of them, creating a massive web that caught them and absorbed their impact.
Just then, the alarm went off, signaling the end of the exam.
"You alright Eijirou?" Peter asked worriedly. The boy looked dizzy and very out of it.
"Oh, h-hey...Peet-ur. Did-did I kull the robit?"
Peter chuckled at his friend's strange words.
"Yeah man, you killed the 'robit.'"
Peter set about returning to the city entrance, which took longer than it should have since Kirishima was stumbling around like he was drunk.
"I think he has a concussion. I'm gonna need to take him to Recovery Girl."
Finally they reached the gate, where all the examinees were waiting.
"Hey, they're back!"
"It's the guys who took down the zero-pointer."
Peter and Kirishima were met with cheers and applause over what they had done. Peter just smiled and thanked them. Kirishima sort of just hung limply, his arm around Peter's shoulder and his clothes torn in many places.
"Okay that's enough. Let me through." Recovery Girl made her way through the crowd to Peter. She stared disapprovingly at him before kissing Kirishima on the forehead. A few seconds passed and nothing happened, then Kirishima's eyes suddenly shot open and he was wide awake once more.
"WHOA! What happened? I remember you throwing me at the big robot, and then after that, nothing." Kirishima still seemed a bit out of it, eyes unfocused a little.
Peter only laughed at his now healed bro. "I'll fill you in later man. Right now we have to go."
"He's right." Recovery Girl broke in. "all of you, the exam is over. Please head home and your results will be mailed to you within a week.
"Hey Eijirou, I'll see you when school starts, yeah?" Peter extended his hand to the spiky haired boy.
"You know it Peter." He took his hand and shook it a bit forcefully.
It had been an uneventful week so far. Peter returned home and was chewed out by Mirko for not telling her about the spider legs, to which he simply responded "you didn't ask." After that, there was nothing to do but wait.
A week passed and there still was no word from UA. Mirko was grumbling about the teachers being lazy and how her result had been mailed to her the day after she took the exam. Then, finally, there was a knock on the door, and a man handed Peter his letter.
"Hey! Mirko! The letter's here!" He yelled excitedly.
She emerged from her room, a bit cross that Peter was yelling, but allowed it because she understood he was excited.
"Hurry up and open it then. I'm not getting any younger kid."
Peter sat down on Mirko's couch and opened the letter. Inside was a small metal disk.
"It's a projector. Flip the switch and set it down." Mirko told him.
Doing as she said, Peter watched as a large projection came from the disk, displaying All Might in front of him.
"Hello young Parker." Peter and Mirko both winced at his booming voice so close to their faces. "You'll have to forgive us for our late response, but we had many examinees this year and many things to consider. Overall, you did very well. You fought your way through a large number of robots and still made time to help your fellow students. And what kind of hero school would this be if we turned away those who helped their fellow students in need? Which is why there is a second scoring system known as rescue points. Take a look."
The display changed from All Might to a score chart. There was a list of 36 names, each one with 2 boxes saying 'villain' and 'rescue' respectively. It turned out Kirishima had taken 2nd place with 60 villain points and 42 rescue points.
As for Peter? He was first, with…
"An impressive score young Parker. 134 villain points and 72 rescue points, putting you at a total of 206 points, totally leaving your fellow examinees behind."
Peter was shocked to see how high he had scored. That was over twice as much as the score of Kirishima, the 2nd place scorer. Then All Might put a hand next to his mouth and whispered, as though he were sharing a secret.
"Between you and me, I'm the record holder, with 163 points. With your score young Parker, you are the new record holder of the highest score in the UA entrance exam. Be proud of what you've accomplished my boy. You've passed with flying colors and are hereby welcomed to UA high school. I expect great things from you, as do many others."
With those final words, the hologram disappeared. Along with the projector, there was a sheet of paper that said Peter was accepted into class 1-A.
"You beat All Might's score, huh? I should probably be surprised, but honestly, I kind of expected this. Still, I'm proud of you. Good job kid."
Mirko graced Peter with one of her rare smiles. Not one of her condescending smirks or fake grins, but a genuine smile.
"Wait, they didn't give me any supplies."
"Course not, you buy your own."
"...Hey Mirko-"
"Nope. I already bought you clothes and shoes. You can figure out the backpack and supplies yourself." The smile was gone and the amused smirk was back.
Peter said nothing, his face falling.
"There's the Mirko I'm so familiar with."
How's that for an entrance exam? As you can see, Peter will not be taking any shit from Bakugo. And to appease the people who say I made Peter too strong, I didn't. In the comics, he caught and lifted half the Empire State Building after it got cut in half. I don't know how much half the Empire State Building weighs, but it probably weighs a whole hell of a lot more than the zero pointers do.
Also, please, leave reviews. I enjoy hearing from you guys, and they're important for the story. I want to hear what I'm doing right, what I'm doing wrong, things I should change, add, or remove. Everything helps me to make the story better. Remember, drop reviews. And thank you for reading. Now I'm going to bed because it's 4 in the morning where I live.
Aren signing off.
