My apologies for being a bit late. I was going to be nice and give you guys an extra chapter a few hours ago. But then the newest chapter of "Mage and Demon Queen" dropped on Webtoons and I've been fanboying for the past few hours over what happened. Yeah, that's right, dudes can like "Mage and Demon Queen" as well. I'm not embarrassed to admit it. I've been following that series for 2 years now and I love it. It's hilarious. Vel and Malori are my life. It was a bit awkward though when my mom came into my room and saw me screaming in happiness at my phone. Yeeaah...
But you guys don't care about that, you just want the next chapter. So, let's get started.
Needless to say, the only people to be happy after battle training were Peter and Kirishima. Peter had achieved a dominating victory over the class and, by default, Kirishima had as well. Everybody else felt humiliated that one person had defeated all of them. Especially Bakugo and Todoroki, who believed they could handle anything.
It didn't take very long for everybody to get over it and bounce back to their happier, peppy selves. Except Bakugo and Todoroki, who were never very happy or peppy to begin with.
"Damn bastard. Probably thinks he's the best just cause he beat me once. I'll show him. Next time we fight I'll crush him into dust!" Bakugo seethed at his desk.
He continued like that for a while until Aizawa got tired of it and sent him home.
The Next Day
Peter was halfway to UA when he saw a familiar sight. Two of them actually.
"Eijirou? Mina?" He called out to his friends who were also making their way to school.
"Hm? Oh, hey Peter! How ya doing?" Kirishima yelled back, happy to see his friend.
"Same as always. You guys come through this way as well?"
"Yeah. We both live in the same area, so we take the same train to get to school." Mina answered excitedly.
"That's cool. You want to walk the rest of the way together?" Peter asked.
"Heck yeah bro! You know I'd never turn you down!" Kirishima pumped his fist excitedly.
Peter joined them and together the trio walked the rest of the way to UA. They mostly talked about battle training yesterday, Mina being especially curious about Peter's suit.
"Seriously though, how does that suit even work? It just builds itself out of nothing."
"Well, not exactly. The suit isn't a solid piece, it's all made of nanobots that join together. I can use a command to make them gather in one spot to perform other functions, like reinforcing my hand for harder punches. Of course, doing that would take away nanobots from another place on the suit." Peter explained patiently.
"Ahhh, that sounds so cool. I wish I had one." Mina whined.
"If you want, I could make you one." Peter told her, which immediately made Mina's eyes light up.
"REALLY!?" She bounced excitedly.
"Sure. The suit isn't that complicated to make. It'd only take me a day or two. But, there would be rules. You can't share the technology with people. It's for your use only. Also, I can't just give you the suit. It's really complicated technology and you could seriously hurt yourself if you misuse it. I'd give you small pieces of gear that would gather over a small portion of your body and have you train with that before I make you a full suit."
"Ugghhh! That sounds so boring." She groaned in response.
"Look Mina, it's no exaggeration to say you could accidentally cut your arm off. One wrong command, and the nanobots will start digging through your skin and bones to join together. I need to know you can use it properly so you don't hurt yourself, or worse."
Mina said nothing, but judging by the resigned look in her eyes, she understood.
"Can you make one for me to bro? Sorry to ask, but it's just so cool. I can't pass up the chance to get one of my own." Kirishima showed him a toothy grin.
"Honestly, you probably only need the small ones. Your hardening makes for a pretty decent suit of armor, so you would only need protection on your arms and legs to reinforce your hits. Although, I guess it'd be nice to have extra protection, or for when you overuse your quirk. And then there's…"
Peter's words became less clear, gradually shifting from clear speech to unintelligible muttering.
"Um, should we stop him?" Mina poked Kirishima's shoulder, sounding a bit nervous.
"Hey, bro? You good?" Kirishima nudged him, snapping Peter out of his muttering daze.
"Huh? Oh, yeah, sorry. I just got a lot of ideas all at once. I think I could also make stuff for Ojiro, Kaminari, and Midoriya, though Midoriya might be a bit hard since the nanobots need to be able to withstand his punches. Although I've got an idea for that, I just need Momo's help."
"Momo? What for?" Mina looked at him questioningly.
"Sorry. If I could tell you, I would. But it's just something I really need to keep to myself for now."
"That and there's no guarantee this plan will even work. It all depends on her." Peter reminded himself.
"That's fine. It's your business after a- Hey, what's going on?" Kirishima stopped mid-sentence. In front of them, the gates to UA were being swarmed by reporters.
Peter could make out some of their words amid the random shouts.
"GIVE US ALL MIGHT!"
"AND THE SPIDER-MAN!"
"WE WANT TO HEAR FROM THEM!"
Peter groaned, dropping his face in his hands. Kirishima gave him a smirk while Mina tried to hold back her laughter.
"You're pretty popular huh bro?" He playfully nudged Peter's shoulder.
"I really don't want to deal with this. I'm not good with crowds."
"Just ignore them Peter. Keep your head down and stay behind us. We'll walk in with you." Mina offered kindly.
"Thanks, but you don't have to. We're trying to be heroes here. Sooner or later, for some reason or another I'll have to deal with this."
Peter raised his head, striding towards the crowd. It wasn't long before a reporter saw him coming and ran to him, as did the others. Peter wasn't going to hide from them, but he also wasn't going to be late to class just to give them a statement for some newspaper he didn't read. Keeping his head down, he lightly pushed past all of them, ignoring their questions. Kirishima and Mina followed behind him, also receiving questions as the "friends of Spider-Man."
They quickly made their way through the mob of reporters, reaching the school gates and entering the building. When they finally reached class, Peter's fellow student's made sure to remind him of what was happening.
"What's up Peter?" Kaminari greeted him. "Look at you Mr. popular. Not even a hero yet and already you're famous."
It stung a bit hearing somebody directly say he wasn't a hero. He really should be used to it by now, but for some reason, he just wasn't.
"Don't remind me Kaminari. I'm already trying to forget. Oh, right! I wanted to ask you about something. Also...HEY! MIDORIYA, OJIRO! CAN YOU GUYS COME HERE?!" Peter called over his friends.
They both walked over, Midoriya followed by Iida and Uraraka.
"Yeah? What is it Peter?" Ojiro asked, unsure why he was called over.
Peter quickly explained what he had been talking about with Mina and Kirishima and asked if they wanted to be part of it.
"It'd take a bit, but I could improve your costumes a lot for you. Ojiro, I can create a nanoweave to cover your tail and let you hit harder. Midoriya, I can create lightweight gauntlets capable of withstanding your hits. And Kaminari, I can probably make something to help you aim your electricity."
They all seemed to like the idea. They weren't the only ones.
OOH! Can I have one too?" Uraraka raised her hand, beaming at Peter.
"Yes, I would like one as well. I apologize for my selfish request, but I would greatly appreciate having such a helpful tool to support me in battle." Iida respectfully bowed as he made his request.
Peter thought for a moment and couldn't find any reason why not.
"I'm doing fine with school, and even with training, studying, and my community service, I have plenty of free time. As long as I could personally watch them train, I could make something special for everybody. If they want it of course."
Peter went around the class and made everybody the same offer, to make them equipment with similar functions as his suit so long as they were willing to practice first.
Almost everybody agreed to it, even Tokoyami. Peter had a few ideas on how to armor up Dark Shadow.
Tooru was a bit hard to convince, as she thought it would defeat the purpose of her quirk. But she also agreed once Peter told her he could implement technology similar to tech used on stealth planes to add image-reflective panels to her nanobots.
Todoroki, surprisingly, agreed. He didn't seem to want to admit it, though he was hard-pressed to find any reason to turn down useful gear.
Bakugo, to nobody's surprise, rejected the offer. His response was something along the lines of "FUCK OFF YOU DAMN BASTARD! I DON'T NEED YOUR FUCKING HELP!"
Still Peter was happy with the results he had gotten. A few students were worried that he would be troubled, but he assured them it was fine. Inventing was his hobby, and it gave him plenty to do in the meantime.
He only needed to do 2 things to get this program of his to work. Get permission from Mr. Aizawa to have access to the training grounds after school hours, and to have that conversation with Momo.
Speaking of Mr. Aizawa, it was at that moment, just as Peter finished talking to Jiro about her suit, that he walked into class. He looked even more annoyed than usual.
"Peter, in the 3 days since we started school you have given me more trouble than most students do in an entire year."
He was obviously talking about the reporters.
"S-sorry sir." Peter ducked his head down. "If it makes you feel any better, I don't like it any more than you do."
"Whatever. We have more important things to talk about. Most of you did well during battle training yesterday. But now we move on to bigger issues. Sorry to drop this on you so suddenly."
The student's stiffened. What was next? Some kind of brutal training? Did they have to fight Peter again?
"It's time for you to pick a class president."
"THAT'S JUST A NORMAL SCHOOL THING!" The students yelled at their teacher.
"Hey, vote for me! I want to do it!" almost everybody shouted.
Peter honestly didn't care about this. He never was the kind of person to seek a leadership position. He still didn't know many of his classmates very well, but if he had to pick somebody, it would probably be either Momo or Iida. Both were well suited to a leadership role and would probably do a good job.
As Peter was thinking about who he should vote for, he noticed Iida had just finished a speech about how they should vote for whoever was best suited to the job.
A.N.: Yes, I only wrote it like this because I'm too lazy to write out Iida's long-ass speech about democracy and trust.
Peter didn't see any issue with it, so he went along with Iida's plan. The idea sounded fair and he liked it.
At least he did, until it turned out that 7 people had voted for him.
"...Okay, why?" He asked the class.
"YEAH, FUCKING WHY?! WHICH OF YOU DAMN BASTARDS VOTED FOR SPIDER-FREAK?!" Bakugo shouted.
"You didn't seriously expect us to vote for you, did you?" Kaminari asked the angry blonde.
"I'LL KILL YOU!"
"You just seemed like you'd be good for the job Peter. You were a decent leader for Kirishima in battle training and you make rational decisions quickly. Plus, you're really smart." Ojiro explained.
"Alright then." Aizawa spoke. "Peter Parker will be the class president and Momo Yaozorozu will be the vice rep."
"I refuse." Peter declared bluntly.
"EH?!" Mina made a confused noise.
"But you got so many votes!" Kaminari argued.
"And I appreciate that so many put your faith in me. But I refuse. I didn't ask for this position, and I don't want this position. I'm proud that you guys think I'd be good for this, but I just don't want to. I'm sure there's somebody better suited to the job. I'm sorry, but you should choose somebody else." Peter finished and sat down again.
Some students looked like they wanted to argue, but then the lunch bell rang. Aizawa dismissed them to lunch and told them to decide who would replace Peter by the time they got back.
"You guys go on ahead. I'll catch up in a second." Peter waved off his friends. He still had to talk to Mr. Aizawa.
"Excuse me, sir? I need to ask you something."
Mr. Aizawa, who was about to pass out in his sleeping bag, looked up at Peter in annoyance.
"What is it? Make it fast."
Peter explained how he wanted permission to use one of the school's training gyms after school hours so he could help his class use his new technology.
"You came to me for that?" I don't care as long as a teacher supervises you. Ask Power Loader. He'll never say no to watching new tech in action." Aizawa closed his eyes, showing that the conversation was over.
Peter left the room and headed to the development studio. There he found Power Loader and, unsurprisingly, Mei.
"Hey Mr. Power Loader." Peter greeted the short man.
"Hello Peter. Anything you need?"
"Actually yes." Peter asked him about supervising the gym, to which Power Loader agreed. "Also, there's this."
Peter had cast his vote immediately and spent the rest of homeroom sketching designs in his notebook. They were the schematics for how to recreate his nanobots, only using weak plastics and aluminum. There were also several schematics for compartments that held enough nanobots to cover only an arm or a leg. Or, in Ojiro's case, a tail.
"I need you to make these for me before the end of school today, 19 of them in total. I know you probably have a lot to do, but it's really important. I'm sorry to ask, but-"
"Not at all Peter. My job is actually pretty boring. Most of the time I just babysit Hatsume to make sure she doesn't kill herself. But she'll likely be working on this with me, so I have nothing to worry about."
"Really? Thank you so much sir. I'll make this up to you, I promise." Peter swore to the teacher, earning him a laugh in return.
"Yes, yes. Now get to lunch. You don't have much time left."
"Yes sir. Thank you sir."
Peter left the development studio and went to lunch. Grabbing some food, he joined his friends at their table.
"Took you long enough Peter. Where were you?" Kaminari asked the American boy.
"Just getting some stuff ready."
A.N.: I'm going to be skipping the whole thing with Iida. It'll happen pretty much the same as it did in the anime, with Iida restoring peace and being nominated as president. It fits here and I see no reason to write out the whole scene. I apologize to anybody who enjoys that scene.
At the end of the day, before everybody could leave, Peter went to the front of the class and made his announcement.
"Okay, listen up guys!" All eyes in the class focused on Peter. "I was able to get permission to use gym gamma for our 'test.' Anybody who doesn't have something they need to do is welcome to come. We'll be starting in ten minutes."
Peter stepped away from the classroom and made his way to the training grounds.
10 minutes later
Everybody except Bakugo showed up to the gym.
Miraculously, nobody had anything they had to do and after a few phone calls were made, everyone had gotten permission to stay late at school.
Peter was standing with Power Loader next to a table loaded down with the brand new nanotech. The rest of Peter's class had assembled in front of them, eyeing the table excitedly.
"Before we begin, I need to say a few things. First off, this is not the same material used in my Iron Spider suit. These nanobots are made of plastic and aluminum. Even if you mess up, they won't tear into your skin enough to do any real damage. It'll hurt, but you won't lose anything."
The class collectively shuddered at the idea.
"Secondly, these are not full suits. To get you used to running the program, each device will only cover a small part of your body." To demonstrate, Peter grabbed one of the circular devices off the table and placed it on his shoulder. Tapping the center of it twice, it began to expand, entirely covering his right arm in pure white nanobots.
"Along with the containers is a small chip you place on the back of your neck. It reads the signals your brain sends and controls the nanobots. Your task is to simply move them around on whichever body part you've placed them. Change their shape, move them around your body, focus them in one spot, that kind of thing. If you feel confident, try and make something, like an arm blade."
As he spoke, Peter moved the white nanobots around his body like flowing sand. When he mentioned the arm blade, they gathered on his wrist and formed a long dagger.
"Please don't try to kill each other with the arm blades, and don't be afraid to make other things. If you have any questions, just ask Mr. Power Loader or myself. And be careful."
His instructions over, the students walked forward, each grabbing their own container and chip to use. Everybody placed theirs somewhere different. Kirishima and Midoriya put the devices on their arms. Ojiro, naturally, placed his on his tail. Jiro put hers on her head, forming a helmet that also covered her earphone jacks. Tooru put hers on her chest, forming a suit.
The first 20 minutes or so went about how Peter expected them to. Many of his classmates constantly yelped in pain as they sent an improper command that made the nanobots dig into their skin. But just like he promised, nobody lost anything.
Some did much better than others. Kirishima, surprisingly, was one of the best. He rarely hurt himself with the nanobots, easily moving them around his body to cover different limbs. Within 10 minutes of starting, he was forming hammers, maces, and blades on his hands.
Others, like Tooru, did very poorly. It seemed Tooru was crying out in pain every other minute. Peter went over to see what was wrong and to see if he could help her.
"What are you having trouble with?"
"They keep digging in harder! I keep trying to move it from one arm to the other, but they just dig into my arm instead." She complained.
Peter had a feeling he knew what was wrong. "Tell me exactly what you're thinking. What are you imagining them doing?"
"Well...I just think of them forming on my left arm."
"And that's it? Nothing else, they just go to your left arm?"
"Yeah. Is that not right?" She asked him.
"It's a bit tricky trying to work with nanotech. You see, you can't just think of it being there, you have to visualize the journey. Don't just think of the nanobots appearing on your left arm, think of them traveling to it. Visualize them moving across your body and forming around it."
Tooru did as she was told. It took a few tries, but it worked. The nanobots flowed off her arm, moving across her back and forming around her other arm perfectly.
"IT WORKED! I DID IT!" She jumped excitedly, happy she had done it properly.
"Good job Tooru. Keep practicing now, and remember to try new things."
Peter let her be, returning to the table with Power Loader.
"You know, you can try it to sir. You made them after all. There's no reason for you not to."
"That's okay Peter. I'm not very eager to make a fool of myself in front of my students." The short man waved him off.
Peter shrugged in response. He watched his class continue to practice, all of them trying to do more and more things with their respective nanotech.
An hour passed, and they had all improved. Groans of pain were a rare occurrence, and nearly everybody had moved on to forming their own special things. Most stuck with creating weapons, but some were a bit more creative.
Jiro was constantly extending her earphone jacks as far as she could, spreading the nanobots onto both of them as they went. Kaminari focused them all onto his right hand, making them form a long, thin line that began at his finger and stretched forward. He constantly made it longer, sending weak electric shocks through it, making it spark and glow yellow.
Peter was proud of them. He had expected to be here for a few days with them mastering this first stage, but they had all nearly mastered it in only an hour.
Then he remembered something important he had to do. He walked over to Momo, pulling her aside from the others.
"What is it Peter?" She asked him, a quizzical look on her face.
"Momo, your quirk allows you to create anything you know the molecular structure of, right?" Momo nodded her head, still a bit confused. "And your family runs a big company, 'Yaoyorozu Industries,' yeah?" Again she nodded.
"Peter what's going on? You're acting strange."
"I have a...proposal I'd like to make to you and your parents. I know they're busy and probably don't have time for a high school kid, but I can offer something that will make both of us happy. Is it possible for me to meet them?"
Momo smiled at him. "Of course. They are most likely busy, but they'll agree to meet you once I show them your nanotech."
"Oh, no. Nonono, that's not it. Besides, the nanotech isn't technically mine, it's my mentor's. No, I'm talking about something different, something better than the nanotech."
"Something better?" Her eyes widened slightly. "What could be better than this?" To emphasize her point, she gathered the nanotech on her hand, forming a large hammer.
"Just trust me. I know it's a big ask, but it'd mean a lot if you could get them to meet me. And to bring a lawyer."
"I...a lawyer?" Peter nodded his head. "...Alright. They get back from a business trip today anyhow. If what you're offering truly is better than the nanotech, I can arrange a meeting by tomorrow."
"Seriously? Tomorrow?" Momo smiled in response.
"Crap. That's a bit earlier than I was expecting. I don't have any fancy clothes. The best outfit I own is a pair of khakis and a polo shirt. Here's hoping her parents aren't too hung up on that kind of thing."
"That's perfect Momo. Thank you." Peter bowed lightly and sent her back to the others.
Power Loader allowed them to continue for another hour before calling them back.
"This was a good first day guys. You did better than I thought you would. I'll be gone tomorrow, but Mr. Power Loader will be here if you want to continue. Now, please pass up your containers and chips. I understand some of you probably want to play around with them more, but I really don't want this tech getting out just yet. Sorry, but for now, the nanotech stays with me."
Peter knew first-hand what it was like when your creations fell into the wrong hands, how it had tortured Mr. Stark when he found out terrorists were using his weapons. These may be weak copies, but it could be devastating if somebody figured out how they worked and made stronger versions.
The class complied easily, everyone passing up their compartment and chips. Peter did a quick count and confirmed they were all there.
"Alright guys. We'll keep practicing with these small ones for a few days. I'll have full suits ready for you soon."
"REALLY!?" Midoriya shouted before quickly blushing red at his volume.
"It should be rather interesting receiving a full suit to use." Shoji commented.
"It might be a bit strange though, ribbit. For all us to have a suit. We'd be like a small army of metal soldiers." Tsuyu added.
A thought came to Peter after hearing Tsuyu's words. They were far and away from the real thing, and still would be even once they had proper suits. But it didn't hurt to give them a name, even if the original belonged to something very different.
"Mr. Stark always did have the best names for everything."
"It won't be long guys. Keep practicing, keep getting better. Before long, we'll be UA's very own Iron Legion."
I had fun here. I know many of you won't like Peter giving the class nanotech suits, but once the idea came to me, I couldn't get it out of my head. It just seemed so cool. I have literally dozens of ideas in my head, from specific suit designs for each person, to functionality, even uses in combat. I'm sure a lot of you were happy with just Peter having a nanotech suit, but just imagine how cool it would be if everyone in 1A (except Bakugo) had one. Also, I wasn't originally planning on calling them the Iron Legion. The name kind of just came to me at the last second. It likely won't be a consistently used name though, just a little one time thing for this chapter.
EDIT: The next chapter was...not liked, to say the least. After you read it, I'd appreciate if you read my added note at the end before you dash to the reviews.
Next chapter will be short, so it should be up in less than 2 hours. Thanks for reading, remember to leave a review.
Aren signing off.
