I understand the last chapter didn't sit right with a lot of people, so let me clear a few things up. Some of you were unhappy with Peter being like Tony. But the thing is, there are a lot of Marvel comics and a lot of Peters. He's not always a high schooler. Sometimes he's a college student, or an adult with a job, and yes, in some comics he's the CEO of a big company. I am not the first to make Peter a player in the business world. That's been a thing since...I think the 70's was when the first "CEO Peter" comic was a thing. No, that's not what they're called.
Also, I thought Momo was a clever way to get vibranium, but as one of you pointed out, it's a bit odd. And reviewing the chapter, I agree with you. It seemed like a good idea at the time, but I now realize it's a little weird, so I'm sorry about that
Anyway, I forgot exactly how big the time gap was between Iida becoming president and the trip to the USJ. I think it was like a week, but for plot purposes I'll be stretching it to 3 weeks. I'll be futzing with the timeline a lot, so you should get used to that.
Okay, that's it. On to the chapter.
2 days passed. As agreed, Peter provided the webbing and Momo provided the vibranium. Peter wasn't going to be using it just yet though. He had spent these last couple of days supervising his class's use of the smaller nanotech compartments. They were slowly becoming more and more creative. Some even joined hands and transferred their nanobots to each other, giving one of them twice as many to work with.
Now, as promised, Peter had created larger compartments that held a suit's worth of nanotech. Today was the day they'd be testing them. They were still made of plastic and aluminum of course, and they would need to be watched closely. Controlling a suit was very different from controlling a small amount. Just in case of an emergency, Peter called in Recovery Girl to join him and Power Loader.
Mirko had also joined, interested in seeing Peter's creation in action.
Peter had just finished explaining everything about the suits. As long as they all remained focused on the nanobots and controlled everything carefully, there wouldn't be any problems.
"Does everybody understand?" Everyone nodded their heads in response. "Great. Form a line please. You're all different sizes, so certain compartments are for specific people."
Peter had programmed the nanobots to take the shape of the hero costume of whoever used it, though he was unsure if it would work. His fears were quickly alleviated when Sero activated his. His familiar helmet, padding, and armor, now completely white, spread over his body. It was a perfect match.
"AWESOME! I WANT TO TRY MINE!" Mina shouted, trying to get hers. When Peter finally handed hers to her, she couldn't activate it fast enough. When the familiar pants and jacket design spread onto her body, she squealed loudly.
"THIS IS THE COOLEST THING EVER!"
"You made these kid?" Mirko looked at Peter seriously.
"Well, technically Mr. Power Loader did most of the work on these training suits. I will be doing some overtime work on their real suits though."
Power Loader looked proud of his creations, even though he had just followed instructions on how to make them. Peter didn't see any reason to take this away from him though, so he said nothing.
"Hey, you think that-"
"No." Peter cut off Mirko. "I'm sorry Mirko, but I can't make you one. I only agreed to make them suits because they're my classmates. I can keep a close eye on them and make sure the tech never leaves the school grounds. I have no control over you though. You could share it, you could lose a few bots, any number of things could go wrong. I might change my mind later, but that'll take a long time."
Mirko looked very annoyed, but she understood. Peter had good reasons for not wanting this technology to get out. It wasn't simply pride as an inventor, he was considering the consequences of the nanotech being spread around.
"Are you really only 15?" Mirko smirked as she ruffled Peter's hair. "You're growing up too fast. Remember to take some time to be a kid, kid."
"Yeah, I know Mirko." Peter smiled back at her.
Things were smooth so far. The nanotech hadn't jammed, forming everybody's costumes perfectly. There were no snags, and the practice of the last two days trained them fairly well for this. Of course, there was the occasional groan or yelp of pain, but that was to be expected.
Peter went around the room, gently offering advice to whoever needed it. He was curious about Tsuyu though.
"Hey Tsu." peter greeted her. She had reminded him many times to call her that. It took a while for it to stick.
"Yeah Peter, ribbit?"
"I was wondering, it might be a bit uncomfortable, but do you think it'd be possible for you to spread the nanotech onto your tongue?"
"My tongue, ribbit. Why?" Tsuyu brought a finger to her cheek, thinking about his question. "It's strong enough to inflict damage, and it's durable enough to take hits."
"Yeah but you could make the same argument for Eijirou." Peter countered. "It doesn't hurt to have some extra coverage. Besides, I just really want to see if it'll work."
Tsuyu shrugged. "Alright, ribbit." She stuck her tongue out in front of her. She just kept it there for a few seconds, but soon, the white nanobots began spreading along it, albeit rather slowly.
"That makes sense. I know I'd be pretty careful if I wanted to spread it on my tongue."
It wasn't long before Tsuyu's tongue was covered in the white nanotech. Of course, that meant most of her suit was gone, but it was still cool to look at.
"That's awesome. Thanks Tsu."
"No problem, ribbit. You made the suits for us, so I may as well do you a favor." She gave Peter her signature blank look.
Stepping away, Peter then walked to Sero.
"What's up man?" Sero greeted him. The two had bonded over similar methods of traversal. Sero was a bit jealous that Peter's webs came from his wrists while he had to aim from his elbows though.
"Not much. Listen, I may have an idea for when I make your actual suit."
"Really? Well what is it?" The tape-boy asked excitedly.
"If you gave me some of your tape to study, I might be able to break down it's chemical compound. If I do that, I can specifically design your suit's nanobots to not stick to your tape. That way, you can cover your tape and create flails." Peter slowly explained his idea.
Sero seemed to like it. "That sounds great. You need my tape right? Here."
Sero shot a strand of tape at the ground in front of him, which Peter then broke away and tore off the ground. The two had confirmed a while ago that Peter was more than strong enough to tear through Sero's tape
"Thanks Sero. This'll be really helpful."
Peter walked back to the table with Power Loader and Mirko. He had come up with plenty of special ideas for each of his classmate's equipment. For Todoroki, he planned to implement a dual heating and cooling system. Whenever needed, his suit had separate heaters and cooling units on both sides of his body which could help regulate the negative side effects of his quirk. The only problem would be trying to make the bots resistant to the cold and heat.
For Mina, he planned to make some kind of system that would cause her body to create more acid and store excess acid, reducing the strain she would be put under when she had to create lots of acid all at once.
For Midoriya, he would need the vibranium. Peter had seen firsthand how strong he was. If he had any hope of creating a suit that he wouldn't destroy immediately, he would need to implement vibranium in its design.
For now though, they still had to prove they could handle the practice suits. Few mistakes were fine, but they were only mistakes here, when the consequences were minor. If they made those same mistakes with the actual suits, it wouldn't be such a minor issue as plastic digging into their skin. The groans of pain would turn into screams of agony with just one improper command.
Peter wanted to avoid that no matter what. So until every single one of them could go without hurting themselves, he wouldn't even begin to work on their suits. He wasn't too worried though. At the rate they were going at, he could begin making the suits within two weeks.
The Next Day
Peter was walking through the halls. School had just let out and he was late to meet his classmates at gym gamma. He stopped though, when he heard shouting down the hall.
Arriving at the source of the noise, he saw a blonde boy yelling at an orange-haired girl and a guy with silver hair and unnaturally thick eyelashes.
"That damn class 1A! I saw them the other day at gym gamma! They've got some kind of fancy technology. Why do only they get special equipment!? What about our class?"
"Because Monoma," The orange-haired girl began. "What probably happened is they liked how Spider-Man's suit worked and asked for similar designs. We could have done the same."
"IT DOESN'T MATTER! SHOULDN'T WE ALL HAVE SPECIAL SUITS LIKE THAT?! WHO'S THE DAMN BASTARD WHO ONLY MADE SUITS FOR 1A?!"
Peter decided he'd listened long enough. This kid, "Monoma" apparently, could insult him all he wanted. But if he said that "damn 1A" one more time, he was going to lay him out right here.
"That 'damn bastard' would be me." Peter said reproachfully. Monoma whirled around, surprise written on his face. His friends looked surprised as well, though for a different reason.
"Hey! You're the Spider-Man! Didn't you take down the number 5 hero? And that speech you gave afterwards! You're super manly bro!" The silver-haired boy half-shouted at
Peter, who smiled at him.
"Manly huh? You know, there's a guy in my class I think you'd get along pretty well with. My name is-"
"Peter Parker." The redhead cut him off. "Believe me, everybody in school knows who you are. My name is Itsuka Kendo."
"And I'm Tetsutetsu Tetsutetsu!" The silver boy declared.
"...I'm sorry, can you repeat that?" Peter asked as politely as he could.
"Tetsutetsu Tetsutetsu!" The boy repeated, none of his energy lost.
"...Got it. And you're Monoma, right?" Peter shifted his attention to the blonde boy.
"Hah! That's right you 1A fool. I know you think your class is superior to ours, but 1B will-"
"Okay, got it, you've got an inferiority complex." Peter raised his hand to silence the boy. "Listen dude, I don't know what you're going on about, but I don't think I'm superior to you. And you shouldn't think that either. Having ambition is fine, but you shouldn't believe you're better than others just because you're strong. And just because you aren't strong doesn't mean other people are superior to you, it just means you have to try a bit harder than everybody else."
Peter had meant to be kind and gently teach the boy a lesson, but of course Monoma interpreted it as Peter calling him weak.
"WHAT DID YOU SAY TO ME?! I'LL KILL YOU, YOU 1A BAS- GAK!"
Monoma's sentence was cut short when Kendo chopped the back of his neck, knocking him out.
"Sorry about him. You're right, he's got a pretty severe inferiority complex. He's a good guy whenever he's not acting up over class 1A."
"Uh, okay." Peter was a bit worried about how easily she had knocked out the noisy boy.
"So, did you really make those fancy suits he's talking about? They sound cool." Kendo continued, disregarding Monoma, now passed out on the floor.
"Yeah. Well, no. Mr. Power Loader made those suits for practice. I gave him the schematics though."
"I really hope she doesn't ask me to make her one. I don't have time to make suits for her class as well. Plus, I can't supervise their use of it, so there's no guarantee the nanotech won't get out."
Peter decided to take care of this right now.
"Um, I'm sorry, but if you're about to ask me to make you one I can't. I'd invite you to watch my class use theirs, but that would be kind of cruel." Peter sheepishly rubbed the back of his head.
"That's cool man. You don't know us, so you're under no obligation to make us stuff." Tetsutetsu assured him.
"He's right. It was nice meeting you Peter. I've got to get this idiot back to class now." Itsuka picked up Monoma, hefting him over her shoulder and walking down the hall.
"...Met some interesting people today." Peter said to himself before continuing on to gym gamma.
2 Weeks Later
Peter was taking a day off from supervising his class. He had carefully explained everything he could to Power Loader and Mirko, so he was sure they could handle watching his classmates and provide them with advice.
Right now, he was in the development studio. Mei had gone with Power Loader to watch Peter's nanotech in action. The whole time until now, she was busy with her own projects. Today though, she finally took a break and decided to watch somebody else's work.
Which meant Peter had the entire development studio to himself. That worked just fine for him. For the past week, not a single groan of pain was heard. Everybody had perfected their control, seamlessly operating the suits. Which meant it was time to build them some proper equipment.
He opened his bag and pulled out the 100 grams of vibranium he had gotten from Momo. He would get a full kilogram from her at the end of the month, but for now, this fist sized lump was all he had. Peter was thankful nanobots were so tiny. This was more than enough to improve his own suit and create Midoriya's suit with reinforced nanobots.
Peter had more than a few ideas on a new suit he could create using the vibranium. [1]
Sadly though, that specific idea would have to wait until he got enough vibranium to build a complete suit out of it. Peter spent the better part of 2 hours modifying his suit. It wasn't much. All he did was replace 40% of the carbide steel in his Iron Spider with vibranium and change its color scheme a little. That left him only a lump of vibranium about the size of a spoon head. Pausing for a moment to consider this, Peter shook his head. He used the last of his vibranium to create special nanobots made of 20% vibranium and 80% carbide steel. It was enough for a full suit, but still wasn't strong enough to withstand all of Midoriya's powers. He would hang onto the suit for now, and when he got his monthly vibranium from Momo, he could finish it.
"Sorry Midoriya. You'll have to wait a bit longer than everybody else."
Peter pulled out everything he had gathered for this project. Notebooks, pictures, and design ideas. He made sure to ask everybody what they wanted. There was no reason to ask for suit designs as the nanotech would form whatever the user thought of, but there were other things to consider.
Peter asked his classmates about anything that could be useful. How their quirks worked, the tolls they took and the effect they had on their bodies, and how strong or weak the suits needed to be. Having everything he needed, Peter began to work.
"Cue the montage." He jokingly thought to himself as he started the first suit.
First was Midoriya. He had mostly finished creating the nanobots for the suit, but according to Midoriya, his quirk also caused his body to generate a large amount of heat, so Peter added thermo-reflective panels to counter that. Having a feeling it would make the boy happy, Peter designed the compartment to look like All Might's symbol with Midoriya's color scheme, a simple dark green star with small black stripes on its sides.
Next was Uraraka. She was a bit tricky, as the suit couldn't be allowed to cover her fingertips. Peter had to code the nanobots to specifically stop short, forming a fingerless glove-like design. It also had a command to create a minor anti-gravity field in a small area, allowing her to float herself around without using her quirk on herself. Her compartment was a pink and grey meteor.
Iida was third. Again, Peter added thermo-reflective plating to protect the nanobots from Iida's engine heat. He also provided a cooling system which would keep the engines from overheating. The nanobots could also enter his engine tubes and attach themselves to his engine, essentially upgrading it and making them capable of more explosive movement. His compartment was modeled after a motorcycle engine and was completely silver.
Kirishima was easy. Peter knew a protection wasn't his main concern thanks to his hardening quirk. Because of this, Peter used a metal slightly more bendable than the carbide steel. Due to the metal being less stiff, the nanobots could move around much faster than the other suits' bots could at the cost of durability. By Peter's calculations, they could move from the heel of Kirishima's foot to the top of his head in 7 milliseconds. The compartment was styled as a red fist.
Kaminari was one of the easiest ones out of everybody. Because he was immune to his own electricity, Peter didn't need to add insulation. The metal could freely conduct the electricity with no negative effects on Kaminari. Peter added a function that made it so that Kaminari could launch his nanobots and still control them. That way, it'd be like a remote targeting system, allowing him to fire accurately at long distances. His compartment looked like a yellow lightning bolt that faintly glowed.
Mina was peculiar. Her acid was secreted from her body like sweat, which meant Peter only needed to stimulate her sweat glands. He programmed the nanobots to begin pressing onto her skin when they reached certain areas, causing her to produce more acid with less strain. He also added multiple sealable compartments that were resistant to corrosive substances, as was the rest of the suit. Her compartment, at her request, looked like a Xenomorph head.
Koda was easy. His suit didn't need any special protection, resistances, strength amplifiers, or anything really. He only requested that his suit appear non-threatening to animals, something Peter assured him he could do himself if he thought of it. Laughing a bit at the irony, Peter made his compartment look like a roaring lion.
Tooru was troublesome. Her suit needed to be strong but light, and it needed image-reflective plating. But of course, the development studio didn't have any, so Peter had to waste 45 minutes making his own. Her compartment looked like a silver and blue 4 [2]
Shoji was fun. His compartment had to be very large and be filled with plenty of extra nanobots to make up for his large size and extra arms. Peter double layered the carbide steel, making his suit very strong. He also added a fabricator function to the compartment that could produce extra nanobots for when Shoji extended his arms. His compartment looked like an octopus.
Sato was...strange. Peter had made plenty of suits, for both himself and others. But this was the first time somebody had explicitly requested "sugar compartments" in their suit. But Peter complied. He designed the suit to form large packages on the belt area, each one capable of holding about 5 pounds of pure sugar, or whatever else Sato loaded them with. They sealed completely with nanobots and could only be opened with a command from Sato. His compartment resembled a slice of cake.
Ojiro was interesting. He told Peter he wanted his suit to be light and relatively weak on his body and strong on his tail. It would be up to Ojiro to tell specific nanobots to go to certain places, so Peter didn't worry about it. He filled 80% of the compartment with nanobots created from ordinary steel and filled the other 20% with the double-layered carbide steel nanobots for his tail. His compartment resembled a squirrel tail.
Todoroki was a bit difficult. It's not very easy to apply dual heating and cooling systems in tiny nanobots while also programming them to move around and function properly and make them resistant to extremely high and low temperatures. But Peter did it. He once again used thermo-reflective plating for his fire and gold-titanium alloy for his ice. The bots could take a beating from Todoroki's quirk and with one simple command, any number of them could produce cold or hot air. His compartment looked like a blue block of ice with a red flame inside it.
Tsuyu was next. Peter made some of the nanobots extremely strong compared to the rest. The idea was for Tsuyu to divert them to her legs, where they would stimulate her muscles, allowing for more powerful jumps while also remaining undamaged. There wasn't much else to say about her suit. The symbol resembled, of course, a frog.
Momo gave Peter a challenge. He really couldn't see any way to improve her quirk. Because it required her to have skin uncovered, a full-body suit kind of defeated the purpose. So he loaded the compartment with a small amount of nanobots. That way, even when undamaged it could never cover her entire body, always allowing some part of her body to be free. Her compartment looked like an atom.
Jiro came next. Peter loaded her compartment with more nanobots than most of the others. The main weakness of her earphone jacks was that they weren't very tough. Her compartment needed more bots to allow her to spread them on her jacks regardless of how far they extended. Peter debated for a while on if her compartment should look like a guitar or a music note. He eventually decided to make both and let her choose.
Tokoyami required 2 compartments, one for him and one for Dark Shadow. The shadow did in fact have a physical body, so Peter was able to make it a suit. Tokoyami's was nothing special, merely providing him protection. Dark Shadow's was totally black and light reflective. With this suit, no light could enter the suit, meaning Dark Shadow wouldn't get any weaker. Of course, it fell to Tokoyami to place the suit on Dark Shadow whenever it emerged from his body. Tokoyami's compartment looked like a hawk while Dark Shadow's looked like a raven.
Sero's suit was as Peter promised. The nanobots used were strong but very light. That way, Sero could cover his tape with them without them sagging or losing speed when they were weighed down. There wasn't much Peter could do to amplify the effects of his quirk, so he let it be. Sero's compartment looked like a roll of tape.
Last was Aoyama. He had requested that Peter make him "glow fabulously." So Peter made all of his nanobots a very shiny gold color that sparkled when light hit it. Aoyama had asked about a cape as well, so Peter made some nanobots out of weak yet very flexible material that Aoyama could form into a cape. He also made them heat-resistant to counteract his laser. His compartment looked like a twinkling golden star.
And that was it. Peter had finished each of their suits. Now he could finally get home. Wait, what time was it?
Peter looked at the clock and saw that it was 8 in the morning. He had worked through the entire night making these suits.
Unknown to Peter, about 15 hours ago Power Loader had come to the development studio to see if he was still there. Seeing him hard at work and totally unresponsive, Power Loader left. He believed Peter would be more responsible than a certain pink-haired student and would get himself home.
Peter hadn't. To make it worse, now that his creations were finished and his inventor's adrenaline had worn off, he was very tired.
"Oh god, I've got to go to school like this." Peter groaned.
Just then, Power Loader walked into the room, surprised to see Peter.
"Peter? How did you...You stayed here all night didn't you?" His surprise shifted to a knowing smirk.
Peter sighed and slumped his shoulders. "Yes sir."
"Well, you wouldn't be a proper inventor unless you've got one or two all-nighters under your belt. Just don't make it a habit alright?"
"Yes sir."
Peter gathered all the compartments and placed them in his backpack before heading to class. At least he finished the suits. All that was left was to give them to his classmates.
"Man...Mirko's gonna kill me."
And scene.
[1] Type "Vibranium Spider-Man" into google and go to images. You might get different results than me, but I'm talking about a Spider-Man suit that's red, gold, and black. He never actually wore it, it's just concept art, but it looks so cool. It's the most epic looking Spider-Man suit ever. As soon as I saw it, I knew I had to include it in the story.
[2] For any of you who missed it, it's a reference to the Fantastic Four, more specifically Invisible Woman.
This was fun. I enjoyed thinking about what would go into each person's suit, and also thinking about what they would make their suits look like. Believe me, nanotech is going to have a huge effect on the story from here on out.
Apologies, but I had very little time today, so this will be the only chapter. I'll be taking tomorrow off for Christmas, but I'll give you an extra long chapter on Saturday. That's the chapter we'll finally be getting to the USJ.
Thanks for reading, remember to leave a review.
Aren signing off.
