Short chapter here. Let's get this one over with.
It was an eventful time to say the least. After the teachers showed up, things somehow both calmed down and got more chaotic. All the street thugs that had been knocked out were detained and arrested. Unfortunately, the big players, the ones who were actually a problem, had all escaped. The students were questioned and examined by police officers and medical responders. It was annoying, but they all had one thing on their minds; Peter.
He was hurt badly protecting them and he desperately needed medical attention. When Recovery Girl arrived, she said his healing factor could do a lot, but it wasn't helpful when he lost as much blood as he did. She transported him to a hospital bed and helped him as best she could. She pulled the knives from his body and cleaned all his wounds before healing him. He had 23 broken bones, several fractures, torn muscles all around his body, and needed a blood transfusion.
3 hours passed before the students were allowed to see him. Everybody except Bakugo and Todoroki showed up. Peter looked alright all things considered. Recovery Girl's quirk along with his healing factor were working together to speed up his healing process, so there were very few injuries still visible on his body. A few of the students shuddered when they saw the 7 bloody knives on a table next to his bed.
They waited for about 10 minutes before Peter started to stir. His eyes opened and he was immediately jumped by his class. They clamoured over him worriedly as he looked around in shock. Of all the strange things he had woken up to in his life, being hugged by 17 people at once was a first.
"Hey guys. Uh, what's going on?"
"What's going on? Are you serious Peter?" Jiro stared at the confused boy. "Do you not remember what happened?"
"No, I do. I fought a bunch of people, got punched really hard, got shanked a few times, then passed out. Nothing new there for me." Peter shrugged as though it were an everyday occurrence.
The class might have been surprised, but they were used to Peter treating important things like they were no big deal.
They all took turns asking him questions for a while longer before Aizawa walked in along with a detective.
"I'm sure you're all worried about Peter, but I need you to leave now so we can ask him some questions." The class groaned, but they filed out of class anyway.
Peter recognized the detective. It was Mr. Tsukauchi.
"Hello Peter. Nice to see you again." He bowed politely.
"Hey sir. So what did you want to ask me?"
"Well, from what I hear, you had a conversation with one of the villains. Something you said made him not want to fight you, even call you a 'true hero,' whatever that means. I need you to tell me exactly what you talked about."
Peter opened his mouth to protest but quickly closed it. He couldn't lie his way through this. Tsukauchi's quirk told him when people were lying, and there really wasn't any way to spin the truth without either of them figuring it out.
Slumping his shoulders, Peter told them what Dabi had told him. About villainous quirks, unfair laws, and everything else.
"So the usual ramblings of a villain then." Aizawa concluded as Tsukauchi wrote everything down.
"Maybe not. There could be something bigger going on here. What about you Peter?
Something you said to him made him like you enough to not attack you. You had to have said something."
Both their eyes narrowed at Peter. He had no way out. They knew Dabi liked him, which meant he agreed with him. And by agreeing with him, he sided with a villain. Peter's only way out was to tell part of the truth.
"I agreed with him. I agreed that it's unfair that people are discriminated against because of their quirks. I think it's unfair that a petty thief is treated as a murder. I think it's wrong that a vigilante just trying to do the right thing is treated as a horrible villain. Nothing he said was wrong, so I agreed with all of it." Peter left out their conversation of what he would do with absolute power.
"...Peter, I know you. I know you're a good person and that you just want to help people. But I wouldn't recommend letting your opinions leave this room. There are things wrong in the world, that's for sure, but what you're saying goes against laws, teachings, and the government itself. You haven't acted on these things yet, so you won't be punished, but as an officer of the law, I should warn you against things like this."
Peter bit back a venomous retort. That's what he had to say? He tells him all this about things that are wrong with the world and his response was "That's bad, don't do it?"
"Yes...sir." Peter spoke slowly in an effort to keep the anger from his voice.
"Well, I've got everything I need. Good day to you both." The detective tipped his hat and left the room.
"...What was that?" Aizawa asked. "Don't play dumb. You shot something at Shigaraki before he disappeared. What was it?"
"A web." Peter could lie now that Tsukauchi was gone. "I tried to pull him away, but they disappeared and my web got cut."
Aizawa narrowed his eyes, knowing he was lying. But then he sighed. He seemed to understand Peter wouldn't tell him the truth anytime soon.
"Fine then."
They talked a while longer before Aizawa left the room. Peter lay alone in his room for a bit before getting out of bed. He knew he was nearly healed, and his healing factor could handle the rest. Climbing to his feet, he ripped the cords and needles from his skin. On the table next to him lay the 7 bloody knives and his nanotech compartment. He grabbed the compartment and, after some hesitation, the knives.
He ran out of the hospital. He wasn't going home, but to UA. Specifically, the development studio. School was closed, so he jumped over the wall and went in through a window. He made his way through the halls and walked to the development studio. Peeking his head inside, he confirmed that nobody was inside.
Setting down to work, Peter quickly repaired his suit. He didn't have any time to waste and needed to work fast. He didn't have any spare vibranium, so it was back to carbide steel. There was one major change made to the suit. Peter packed it with a range extender capable of picking up RFID signals.
Donning his suit, which looked the same as the one that had just been destroyed, Peter jumped out a window and swung into the city, perching atop a tall building. It was now 9pm, and the sky was dark
He remembered something Mr. Aizawa had said to him before he left his room.
"Peter, I don't know what you're planning. I don't know if you want revenge, or to prove yourself, or anything about you. But I need you to remember one thing; you're a student. You have no license and no legal way to go after the villains. Just sit back and let us handle this. We have our own ways of finding people."
"Yeah, I bet you do." Peter muttered to himself. "But what are you going to do once you catch them? Throw them in prison? Is that what you think they need? They've obviously done bad things, but they need help, support, not a jail cell. Throw them in a prison, they'll only become worse. You don't cure a mental patient by torturing them, you do it through love, care, and support."
Peter activated a command and a small map of the city appeared on his HUD. On it was a small dot, a dot marking the location of the spider tracer he had fired onto Shigaraki.
"Go ahead and take care of things your way Mr. Aizawa. Just don't stop me from taking care of things my way." Peter leaped off the building and swung off towards the location on his map.
What's this? Actual drama and creativity? In this story?
Real talk though, this is going to be a really important part of the story. Sorry this chapter was so short, but I didn't want to cram this and the next chapter together.
As always, thanks for reading and remember to leave a review.
Aren signing off.
