Chapter Forty-Seven
The Day of Unity approaches. Before even landing back on the Boiling Isles, Danielle and Luz ended up in a huge argument which resulted in Danielle tossing her bracelet in front of Luz. The rest of the trip was silent though King silently grabbed the bracelet which looked like it was cracking. At one point when he was sleeping, King had an out of body experience that resulted with him in the In Between. Startled by some crying and whimpering, King wakes up before realizing it was Aster he was hearing. After waving bye to Cap'n Salty, the girls, Hooty and King walked around the pier.
"Hmmm. "Mom took Pensta, but we're safe. We'll contact."" said Luz, reading a text from her Tamagotchi. "Aww, she sent so many hearts! Hope she's doing okay."
"Is that Amity? It's okay if you wanna check on her," said King, looking at Luz. "I can get to the Owl House on my own."
"After what just recently happened it's not happening," said Danielle, looking at King. "You're to be with one of us at all times."
"There are no Titan Trappers on our isles," said Luz, looking at Danielle. "As long as King sticks to the usual path he'll be fine."
"I am not putting our little brother life in danger after what transpired," said Danielle, glaring at Luz. "End of discussion Noceda. I'm not taking any chances…"
"Hey, look! Everyone missed us so much they put up pretty signs!" said Hooty, seeing posters of everyone before Danielle's magic flares up and incinerates the posters. "Whoa!"
"I do not look like that," said Danielle, eyebrow twitching.
"Let's take the long way home," said Luz, pulling up her hood alongside Danielle.
Taking the long route like suggested, they finally reach their destination. Only to find a smoldering pile of ashes where the Owl House once stood. The girls and King walk closer to the house before slumping to the ground. The girls scream out in rage as King clings to them with tears in their eyes and Hooty coiling around them. Not noticing something flying nearby, the girls, King and Hooty are scooped up by the Clawthorne's Guardian.
"What the…" said Luz, staring at the Guardian. "Is that the ceiling art from the living room?"
"All the Clawthorne residents have artwork of me in their house," said the Guardian, flying towards the Knee.
"Who-what are you?" asked Danielle, staring at the Guardian.
"I am the Guardian of the noble house of Clawthorne," replied the Guardian, soaring through the sky. "Though you may not be of blood, Edalyn recognizes you three as her kids, so you're honorary Clawthorne's. It is nice to know that Edalyn has taken care of you quite nicely since finding you, young King."
"The Clawthorne's were nobles?!" said Danielle and Luz, surprised.
"Not in a way that you think. They have always been… how you say, wild," said the Guardian, setting a barrier around the girls, King and Hooty as they drew closer to the Knee. "Though honorary members, you won't be having palismans carved as birds unless that is what you desire."
"I don't know yet," said Luz, looking at the Guardian.
"The Knee?" said Danielle, looking down. "Eda and Lilith are hiding here?"
"That they are. It's quite interesting a bunch of kids Edalyn has adopted," said the Guardian, looking at the girls and King. "A mortal human, a semi-immortal Titan, and an immortal Celestial."
"What about me?" asked Hooty, looking at the Guardian.
"A crazy fun loveable uncle," replied the Guardian, before descending. "Here we go."
"What in the name of Titan…" said Eda, running out of a cave alongside Lilith. "Is that the ceiling art…"
"That's the Guardian of our family Edalyn," said Lilith, as the girls and King hop down. "Surely you remember the stories mom and dad told us."
"Give or take," said Eda, before rushing to hug the girls and King. "Oh, you all are all right."
"Hey, Lulu!" said Hooty, coiling around Lilith.
"Hootsifer," said Lilith, lightly hugging Hooty.
"I will take my leave," said the Guardian, taking flight. "Though when a new house is built, I will be there, adorning your ceiling once more."
"What?" said Eda, confused. "What about my house?"
"Eda…" said Danielle and Luz, looking at Eda. "The house was burned down."
"My house!" said Eda, slumping to the ground.
"Lulu! I got you a shirt!" said Hooty, coughing up a t-shirt in Lilith's hands.
"I was sacrificed to the Grand Huntsman?" said Lilith, reading the text on the shirt
"What the…?" said Eda, looking at the t-shirt.
"So... turns out King's letter was sent by a bunch of Titan Trappers," said Luz, looking at Eda and Lilith. "And they may have tried to get Danielle to sacrifice King to Aster, who they worship."
"Oh, so you found of a commune of bloodthirsty fanatics in a place that was supposed to be empty!" said Eda, glaring at Lilith then looking at the girls. "Wait, they worship Aster? And they tried to get Danielle to kill King?"
"They thought I was one of them cause of my markings. And Aster…" said Danielle, holding out the bundle which contained the shattered tablet. "Was almost freed before their elder decided to shatter the tablet they had which we tried to fix."
"Yeah… Danielle did not take it that well," said Luz, slightly backing away from Danielle.
"They had it coming," said Danielle, mumbling under her breath while pulling the bundle close.
"Well, they couldn't have been that scary without any Titans to trap!" said Lilith, looking at Eda.
"Actually..." said Luz, looking towards King.
"Yeah, King's a Titan," said Danielle, looking at Eda and Lilith. "Congratulations, you raised and become the adoptive mother to a god."
"Looks like I'm... due for a growth spurt soon... heh, heh," said King, as Eda and Lilith gasp in shock.
"At least, they didn't pass out," said Danielle, eyeing Eda and Lilith.
Still in shock, Eda and Lilith gestured everyone into the cave. Grabbing some blankets, the girls bundle up while telling Eda and Lilith what happened while they were gone. Eda didn't like the big argument the girls had towards the end but couldn't do nothing about it now. The girls and Eda watch King build a snowman version of Francois.
"I can't believe that little guy is gonna turn into that big guy," said Eda, watching King from a distance.
"Certainly explains his strange new powers. He's just dealing with so much," said Luz, also watching King. "I wish there was a way we could give him some comfort."
"We're all dealing with so much," said Danielle, leaning against the cave wall.
"I can't believe this! All this time you've had a Titan under your roof!" said Lilith, before gasping. "I've eaten ice cream with a god!"
"Just because he has tall genes doesn't mean he's a god," said Luz, looking at Lilith. "Besides, Danielle can be considered one too."
"Don't you dare worship me!" said Danielle, looking at everyone. "I don't need that on my plate as well."
"And he falls into the toilet like once a day," said Eda, looking at Lilith. "While she goes kitty."
"Eda!" said Danielle, blushing.
"Perhaps he's still too young. His powers haven't... awakened yet," said Lilith, looking at Eda. "But who knows how he can help us against Belos!"
"King is going no where near Belos!" shouted Danielle, stomping over.
"Don't worry you two, we're not putting him in danger," said Eda, while pulling Danielle away from Lilith. "He's a Clawthorne and technically your nephew, remember, dear sister?"
"Right, of course," said Lilith, before running off. "I'm a god's aunt! But is he a gentle god or an angry god?"
"The moment I see her making an altar or such for me, I'm burning it," said Danielle, glaring at Lilith.
"So? Fill us in!" said Luz, looking at Eda. "How are we gonna defeat Belos and his Draining Spell and free Aster?"
"Uh, right. Well... it's a secret!" said Eda, as Luz pouts and Danielle looks her way. "Just for now. I'll fill you in closer to go time!"
"Ah, so if we're captured we can't give anything away!" said Luz, looking at Eda. "Smart thinkin', Owl Lady!"
"There! All done!" said King, finishing his snow bunny. "Nice to meet you Fran-snow...ois."
"Aw, King, let me help with that," said Luz, running over to King.
"Maybe I can sneeze myself inside wherever Belos is keeping Aster and Danny and end him myself," said Danielle, mumbling to herself.
"I heard that and you will do no such thing," said Eda, walking over to Danielle.
"The sooner Belos is dealt with, the sooner I can free Aster and Danny," said Danielle, looking to the side.
"I highly doubt your mom and dad would like to hear their daughter killed an emperor in cold blood," said Eda, placing her hands on Danielle's shoulders.
"Don't meddle in what I do, I'll clean Belos from this land and scorch the air he breaths," said Danielle, before being slapped across the face by Eda.
"… …" said Eda, making everyone else gasp and Danielle to back away. "Danielle, I…"
"Congratulations Eda, keep your favored student while losing the other," said Danielle, walking away.
"Danielle, I didn't mean it like that," said Eda, turning around and facing Danielle. "I…"
"You what? Luz has been your favored student from the beginning and I've known it. I worked and did everything you taught me but you were more interested with Luz," said Danielle, looking at Eda then King. "I know you just realized you're a Titan but you were no better King. You always flocked to Luz whenever I said no. You ditched and no longer come to my Polish lessons and I highly doubt you'll stay for Italian lessons. I try to be a good big sister to you but it's like you're playing Good Sister, Bad Sister."
"I-I'm not," said King, looking at Danielle before thinking. "I-I couldn't… am I?"
"There was so many things but the icing on the cake is when you gave Luz your letterman jacket Eda," said Danielle, looking at Eda. "You never once considered it, you just instantly gave it to Luz."
"I slapped you for good reason. The wording made you sound like the Archivists that are Aster's siblings," said Eda, looking at Danielle. "Do you really think Aster would like to see you like that?"
"… …" said Danielle, taking a deep breath in and letting it out. "No, he wouldn't. I don't want Aster to see me as such a thing. He's the only one that truly paid any attention to me. I just… I just…"
Taking a deep breath, Danielle lets out the loudest scream she could muster. Everyone covers their ears, as they see Danielle start punching a tree quite a few times before kicking it. Each blow made the tree crack before it finally fell on the last strike. Danielle slumps to the ground before crying.
"This Day of Unity is tearing us apart. I can't take it anymore!" shouted Danielle, crying. "I just want it to end! I want to go back home and open the front door and see my mom and dad being silly with each other. And-And trying to live as much as a normal life I can with magic!"
"You good?" asked Eda, looking at Danielle. "Let it all out?"
"Not quite," replied Danielle, before releasing a stream of her magic around the vicinity, vaporizing the snow around them. "There… I'm a little better, not quite, but better."
"Besides, you wouldn't have fit in it," said Eda, pulling Danielle into a side hug. "Luz was closer to my body build when I was your two's age."
"Like a twig?" said Danielle, looking at Eda.
"Yeah, like a… you little," said Eda, ruffling Danielle's hair.
"Besides, there were things King only does with you," said Luz, looking at Danielle.
"Like this," said King, jumping into Danielle's arms and nuzzling into her cleavage while kneading.
"King!" said Danielle, slightly blushing. "Stop that!"
"Hey, I had to deal with that when he was much younger and I still remember some of those nips," said Eda, looking at Danielle then King. "Besides, it usually calms him down enough to start to fall asleep."
"True," said Danielle, petting King as his breathing slows down enough to want to fall asleep. "Why don't we build Fran-snowois a little family so he's not alone?"
"Now you're thinking," said Luz, starting up a new snowman. "How big should we go?"
"One for each of us. Fran-snowois is basically King so…" said Danielle, putting King down. "Animal themed?"
"Eda can be an owl, you'll be a kitty," said Luz, rolling a snowball. "Hooty will be… Hooty. And Aster can be a… hmmm?"
"A fox. I feel like that would work for him," said Danielle, looking at Luz.
"Hmmm?" said King, feeling the small satchel he hid in his collar shift before taking it out and seeing the beads from the bracelet slightly fix themselves. "Whoa."
"Alright, kids!" said Eda, walking over after talking to Lilith. "The uh... plan isn't gonna be ready till tomorrow, but if you could do anything in the world today, what would it be?"
"Thanks, Eda, but I just want things to be normal right now," said King, stuffing the satchel back in his collar.
"Well, I wanna go on a heist!" said Luz, looking at Eda.
"Who knows, maybe the scouts salvaged some of our stuff," said Danielle, before looking at Eda. "Highly doubt your nest made it though."
"Well, hop on," said Eda, as the girls mounted her staff and they took off.
"They're probably holding everything at the Bonesborough Precinct, Francois included," said Luz, as they flew closer to Bonesborough.
"Are you sure you wanna do this for a stuffed toy?" asked Eda, looking at the girls. "Wouldn't you rather, oh I don't know, have a beach day?"
"Maybe if we had time for 20 more adventures, but we don't," said Luz, looking at Eda. "Besides, this is for King! He needs his buddy."
"And I need to finish the toy I was making for Aster," said Danielle, looking at Eda. "Me not thinking straightly lately has postponed it from being finished."
Flying closer to Bonesborough, Eda lands in an alley. Dodging scouts that were nearby, Eda and the girls head towards the precinct. Luz and Danielle notice some of their stuff as the scouts take them into the precinct.
"There, look!" said Luz, noticing Francois. "Francois! Let's pounce!"
"And Aster's plush," said Danielle, as Luz looked at her. "Yeah, I went with a fox."
"Hold up!" said Eda, pulling the girls to the side. "If we're gonna do this we gotta do it right. Belos isn't taking any more chances with us after your two's little trip into his mind. If we wanna stay alive we have to be inconspicuous."
"Think these will work?" said Danielle, holding up some discarded scout uniforms that have seen better days.
After having cleaned the uniforms up with the Cleaning Glyph, Eda and the girls change. Walking over to the precinct, Eda kicks open the door. Danielle pales seeing how many guards and scouts there are.
"Take me to my..." said Eda, changing her voice. "I mean the Owl Lady's confiscated junk!"
"Nice save," said Luz, looking at Eda before seeing the scouts and guards going back to work.
"Not the reaction I thought," said Danielle, watching the guards and scouts.
"Hey you, fellow guard!" said Eda, walking over to a scout that was busy writing. "We just found a lot of illegal Hexes Hold'em cards. Can we get the key to the warehouse?"
"Way too easy," thought Danielle, as the scout gave Eda a key and they headed over to an elevator.
"Maybe our luck's finally turning!" said Luz, as they descended.
"Maybe some of our hidden allies are here," thought Danielle, as they reached their destination before seeing the mass amount of stuff. "This is… gonna take a while."
"Woo, boy, we're gonna need to split up if we want to find Francois and Danielle's stuff," said Eda, looking around. "If things get hairy, you two fly out of here as fast as you two can. Hey! Don't give me those faces, just say okay, okay?"
"Okay," said Luz, looking at Eda.
"Fine," said Danielle, looking away.
"Oh, and if you find a box labelled, "Eda's Longest Toenails", grab that, too," said Eda, looking at the girls.
"Ew," said Danielle and Luz, as Luz chuckles while Danielle is disgusted.
As the girls checked around, Eda was able to get in contact with Raine. Looking around and checking every box they could, Luz and Danielle finally found what they were looking for. Luz had acquired Francois and Danielle had acquired her unfinished fox plush and some other things she bagged. Looking at each other, Danielle and Luz head in the direction they heard Eda but did not like what they heard.
"Eda? Are you sending us away?" asked Luz, staring at Eda as she remained silent.
"You are sending us away!?" said Danielle, a little miffed. "Don't you understand that we can help? Why haven't you gotten that yet?"
"CALL RAINE BACK! TELL THEM THERE'S NO PACKAGE TO RECEIVE!" shouted Luz, staring at Eda not knowing they were overheard by a scout. "WE'RE NOT GOING ANYWHERE UNTIL BELOS IS DEFEATED!"
"No," said Eda, staring at the girls.
"After everything we've been through, I can't believe you're still underestimating us," said Luz, before walking away down the steps with Danielle. "Fine. Let's just get back to King."
"Eda, did you just go harpy on us?" asked Danielle, glaring at Eda.
"You're going with Raine," said Eda, looking at the girls. "They'll keep you two safe!"
"You can't make us," said Luz, holding an Ice Glyph.
"Move aside Eda," said Danielle, glaring at Eda. "Or there will be a fight."
"No," said Eda, as Luz activated the Ice Glyph.
A battle ensued between Eda and the girls. Eda was able to call Owlbert back to her as Luz almost tumbled to the ground if it wasn't for Danielle enveloping her with some wind. The girls blind Eda before splitting up. Eda was able to hear Luz when she used the Invisibility Glyph to hide. Danielle was able to stop Eda by blasting her into a pile of boxes. Shaking her head, Eda spots Danielle grabbing hold of Luz's hands and lifting her up in the air as they flew. Slapping her wings, Eda makes the girls tumble to the ground before approaching them.
"Danielle, Luz, please!" said Eda, only for the girls to create a sheet of ice they slide under and encase her feet before smashing it. "Raine will be here soon. I'll have King join you afterwards."
"But we can help with the plan!" said Danielle and Luz, looking at Eda.
"It's time to go," said Eda, before being struck by a beam from a Guard Captain.
"Hands up, Owl Lady!" said the Guard Captain, as Eda attempts to attack.
"Eda!" shouted Danielle and Luz, only to be netted by some Coven Scouts.
"Lock 'em up, and use the heavy-duty stuff this time," said the Guard Captain, as some Abomatons drag Eda and the girls away towards a cell. "An envoy from the castle is coming to collect the human and half witch. The Owl Lady is to be taken to the Conformatorium for petrification. A real one this time."
"I destroyed that statue remember," said Danielle, glaring at the Guard Captain. "There should be no way that it was able to be rebuilt in time."
"Why don't you just save yourself the trouble and put me down now," said Eda, looking at the Guard Captain as they walked away.
"You happy now? This way, none of us can stop Belos," said Luz, as Danielle struggled against her chains while Eda looked away guiltily. "Why couldn't you just let us help with your stupid plan?! Is it 'cause we're still kids? Do you think we're still that weak?! Well?!"
"It's because there is no plan, okay?!" said Eda, snapping at Luz.
"What!?" said Danielle, looking at Eda.
"Me and Lilith don't have magic and we don't know who our hidden allies are, we're useless. We have you two and King. So, I was gonna do anything to make sure that you two were safe. But now..." said Eda, before turning away. "It's all over."
"Let us go!" shouted Danielle and Luz, as they were separated from Eda and taken to a carriage.
"Belos is a witch hunter! You… you have to listen!" said Luz, as she and Danielle were tossed into a carriage.
"Belos isn't even a witch! He's a human!" shouted Danielle, looking outside the carriage. "He wants to end your realm! Listen to us, dangit!"
"Eda? Eda, can you hear me? I'll listen to you now, I'll do whatever you say, just fight back!" said Luz, looking towards Eda in her carriage. "Please! Eda!"
"You've never given up before, don't start now!" shouted Danielle, looking at Eda. "Eda!"
"I can't believe this is happening," said Luz, slumping to the floor before thinking as the carriage started moving. "Danielle, is it possible you could flare your magic in a way to get your mom and some celestials to notice?"
"I'd probably black out afterwards," replied Danielle, looking at Luz. "Nor do I know if they would even notice. Mom yes, but any others…"
"Then try," said Luz, looking at Danielle. "Anything to give us an edge over Belos."
And so, Danielle tried what Luz suggested. Trying to flare her magic as much as she could as a signal, even trying to pulse it, Danielle passes out in Luz's lap afterwards. Not knowing if it worked, Luz pulls Danielle in as best she could as she waited for the carriage to stop. It had taken a while before the carriage came to its destination and Danielle had finally woken back up.
"I blacked out, didn't I?" said Danielle, situating herself better. "Where are we?"
"Not staying long," said Luz, before kicking the doors open and jumping out. "Where is she? Take us to Eda!"
"Luz!" shouted Danielle, as Luz was grabbed by abomination goo before jumping and biting the abomination goo. "Let her go!"
"Luz, Danielle," said Eda, chucklingly as she gained the girls attention. "Luz! Danielle! It's okay."
"I'm going to set you down, and you stop biting," said Darius, setting the girls down.
"What's going on?" asked Luz, seeing allies galore. "Are these all our hidden allies?"
"Luz! Danielle!" said King, hugging the girls as Eberwolf chomps their handcuffs off.
"Eda's been bragging about you two for hours," said Raine, approaching the girls.
"It's nice to meet you again Raine," said Luz, standing up. "I heard all about you adventures with Eda, and how you became Head Witch of Bard Coven, where you're secretly a spy! A-And then you and Eda played that duet and…"
"Is Raeda back to being a thing?" asked Danielle, making Eda and Raine blush.
"Danielle!" said Eda and Raine, looking at Danielle.
"We'll be able to win this time," said Daruis, looking at the girls. "If it wasn't for what happened and teaming up secretly within your mind, we would have been doing the same thing over again."
"Things aren't hopeless!" said Lilith, looking at Eda.
"Really?" said Luz, before gasping. "Wait, wait, before you get into that, please tell me you have a cool rebel name!"
"Actually, we do. Allow me to introduce..." said Raine, walking around the group.
"Wait, hold on," said Daruis, looking at Raine.
"The Covens Against the Throne..." said Raine, looking at the girls. "AKA…"
"We did not discuss this in the meeting," said Daruis, looking at Raine. "We are not…"
"The CATs!" said Raine, as everyone hissed.
"Nya!" said Danielle, as her cat ears and tail came out before covering her mouth in embarrassment. "Forget I did that."
"Everything's come full circle, baby!" said Luz, laughing while pulling her hood up.
"So, this is where everyone has been hiding," said Danielle, as she and Luz were geared to a building.
"I got something for you," said Eda, pulling out Francois and Danielle's stuff from a bag.
"Eda…" said Danielle, grabbing the unfinished plush toy and hugging it.
"Francois!" said King, grabbing and hugging his toy.
"Look what else is in here," said Eda, holding a cardboard box.
"Oh, please no," said Danielle, covering her eyes. "Don't open it."
"It's... our palistrom wood," said Luz, as she opened the box and making Danielle gasp.
"I thought you two wanna carve your palisman," said Eda, holding a chisel. "What do you say?"
"I shouldn't. The Day of Unity is in two days, we have to focus…" said Luz, before Eda hugs her and Danielle.
"I don't want my palisman to see this war," said Danielle, cuddling into Eda. "I'd want them to see a Belos-free world."
"You goobs," said Eda, holding the girls. "Hey, this isn't all on you two."
"Kinda feels like it," said Danielle, sighing.
"Yeah, we have teammates now," said King, before lightly clawing the air. "Meow, meow!"
"Thanks, Eda," said Luz, looking at Eda. "I think I'm ready to carve."
"I'll leave you two be," said Danielle, getting up before Eda and Luz grabbed her wrists.
"We're doing this together," said Luz, getting Danielle to sit down. "Um, you're gonna show us how to do this, right?"
"I actually remember Mr. Wilhelm showing me his carvings," said Danielle, looking at Eda and Luz. "And a little whittling lesson or two."
"Oh, duh. My dad taught me the ropes. Here, let's make sure we have some space," said Eda, before setting the wood upward. "Lay the wood here..."
"Are you two gonna carve me?" asked King, eagerly.
"Calm down, King," said Eda, chucklingly. "Now, let's take it slow. We've got all the time in the world."
And so, Eda showed the girls what to do. It took most of the night but the girls finally settled on a design, an egg and a chrysalis with intricate patterns. Eda, King and the girls were going to remember this moment for the rest of their lives.
Owl Pellet #115
"Hold it down!" shouted Jacob, as the cage fell over the rats in the alley near the Robin's Roast Café. "Gross gross-gross-gross."
"Vee, do your thing," said Camila, holding the cage down alongside Jacob. "I know you're not fond of it but these rats need to be dealt with before it becomes a bigger problem."
"Aah, it touched me!" screamed Jacob, as the rats struggled for freedom.
"O-Okay," said Vee, steeling herself before beginning to such the magic out of the rats.
"So that's what magic looks like when not contained in an earthly vessel," said Jacob, watching the magic being sucked out and seeing the rats going back to normal. "Well, that's over."
"Vee, mija, are you okay?" asked Camila, seeing Vee looking sick.
"That was the most disgusting magic ever," replied Vee, covering her mouth. "It took on the rat's…"
"Vee!" said Camila, as Vee threw up in a nearby trash lid.
"Yeah, let's bottle that up so it's not ingested again," said Jacob, as the rats ran away.
"Agreed," said Camila, while rubbing Vee's back as she threw up some more.
"Good thing I brought these," said Jacob, unbagging some large mason jars.
