I have returned. I realize the last chapter was basically the equivalent of a filler episode, but I wanted to take some time and write something simple before we get back to the more serious sections of this story.
On an unrelated note, this Summer heat has been taking me out. I've never done well whenever the temperature goes above 70 degrees, but it's 100 frickin degrees where I live right now! I really need to get myself a fan.
Anyway, I should probably mention why I was gone for a week. You know, I'm starting to think I'm cursed. The minute I think nothing will keep me from updating, this happens. What is "this" you ask? Well, let me tell you.
I didn't even have my laptop with me last week. I was visiting my aunt and wasn't able to bring it with me. Even if I did, the wifi is really bad at her house, so I probably wouldn't be able to do much anyway. I forgot to mention that in my update the week prior, so that's my bad. To all the people who have sent me private messages since then, I haven't been ignoring you, I've just been literally incapable of responding without my Chromebook.
On the bright side, it gave me a chance to finally catch up on the books I've been meaning to read. I finally finished the first 6 books of "Mushoku Tensei." Good times.
But anyway, you all know what time it is. Let's get into the recap.
"What's up nerds? Happy to see my sexy face again?"
Wade, you're so ugly you look like a human representation of Mark Zuckerberg's haircut. Nobody out there thinks you're sexy.
"Well that's just ridiculous. Lizards don't have hair, silly."
Ignoring the man-child for now, last chapter was… kinda boring.
"Let's see here, Petey talked about the future for a little bit. That's dumb. What kind of loser thinks about the future? Just let things happen."
After that, the loser squad invited the cooler half of the Peter-squad to the hospital to help them rescue the man in question.
"And then they snuck out of the hospital like a gang of really crappy ninjas. Wait, now that they've joined forces, they need a new name. Hm, loser squad and Peter-squad… OOH! What about "Mido and the Gang?"
… We are not calling them that.
"Oh come on! Just picture it for a second! "Mido and the Gang!" They sound like a bunch of mobsters. Or like a really lame boy band."
… Moving on, it turns out Captain Hobo has been tracking Peter for a few hours now, and is getting closer. That's… bad I guess? Wait, who are we supposed to be rooting for again? Isn't Peter technically a villain now?
"No. You see, Peter hasn't been caught yet, so he's still a hero. But he's still a student, so he isn't a hero yet. But before he was a student, he was a vigilante, which is a criminal, which is a villain, which means he's not a student, which means he's not a hero. He's a complicated man-boy who does what he wants even when it pisses off the boring government losers, which would make Peter… me."
… What?!
"Exactly."
I- HUH?! That didn't explain anything! Hey, Where are you going?! We've got a recap to finish!
"Do it without me nerd! I've got things to do.
AAAARRRR! Screw it! Shit happened, Peter beat everybody at arm-wrestling, and Mido and the Gang, along with Captain Hobo, are getting closer to the bar. I'm out of here. See you all in the next chapter.
Back To That Story:
"Seriously though, if you had a whole back room filled with movies, books, and video games, why did we always hang out in the bar?" Peter asked.
At the moment, he was stretched out on one of the couches in the TV room. Spinner and Toga sat beside him while Twice and Magne occupied the beanbags. Compress and Stain claimed the recliners, fully stretching out their cloth thrones to be as comfortable as possible. Dabi sat alone on the second couch, his body stretched out as much as possible. He clearly didn't want anybody settling down next to him.
"We figured if you did something to piss off Shigaraki, it'd be better for him to throw a tantrum in the bar rather than in here where he could destroy things we actually care about." Magne explained, sinking further into her beanbag chair as she spoke.
That was actually a pretty valid reason. Even though he hadn't spent much time in here, Peter would be pretty sad if something happened to ruin the room of wonders.
It was currently 1:30. After demolishing his friends in the arm wrestling tournament, Peter had suggested moving to the TV room. Once they arrived, everybody claimed their own seat and settled down. For the most part, they simply talked with each other as they always did in the barroom. Stain however had decided to just read a book, making him the odd one out.
"Hey, uh, Stain? I get that you're like this edgy ninja dude, but you think you could talk with us a bit? We're kind of like your partners now, so we may as well get to know each other." Peter reasoned.
Stain barely glanced up from his reading. For a moment, Peter thought he would be ignored in favor of the book, but to his surprise, Stain actually set the book aside and began speaking.
"Very well. I appear to be a part of your group for the time being, so it would be foolish to not attempt to understand you better. In fact, I have an important question for all of you."
Stain rose from his chair, an intense expression on his face. The friendly atmosphere vanished, replaced by a more serious one.
"Why are you all here?"
"... Well, it was fairly boring in the bar. We came here because-"
"Idiot!" Stain snapped, silencing Mr. Compress. "I mean what made you choose this path? Why do you lead the lives you do? If I am to work with any of you, I need to know your goals. I refuse to work with common thugs who merely want to sow chaos and disorder. It may be beneficial to work with you, but I will not hesitate to leave if you do not give me good reason to stay here."
The assembled villains, along with Peter, all stared back at Stain, who looked expectant. He had taken a subtle step towards the door, making sure he could cover it at a moment's notice. It was clear nobody would be leaving this room until the ninja got the explanation he was looking for.
While the others were considering the question, Toga was the first to answer in her usual bright fashion.
"I just want to make society better." The vampire girl's vague statement drew a curious, yet no less hostile look from Stain. "The world sucks. People are mean to other people just because they've got weak quirks or because their quirks are 'villainous.' Toga switched to an almost mocking tone when she finished her sentence. "Things really need to change, and if the 'heroes' won't do anything about it, I may as well do it myself."
Stain thought for a moment, a curious look on his face. After a few seconds of thought, the lean man nodded, showing his approval for Toga's answer.
"I guess I'm kind of the same. I basically just want to change society as well. Though preferably, it would become a place where anybody could live as they want. Nobody judging them or ordering them around or acting superior to them. All I want is a place to live the way you like." Magne voiced her motivation next, drawing another semi-approving nod from Stain, though this one was smaller, and there was a small frown on his face.
"I can't exactly say why I'm here." Compress admitted. "Like the others, I too wish to change our current society, though I am unsure as to the change I want to make. I know I want to remove the heroes, the prejudice, and anything else making life difficult for those like us. That is the society I wish for, though I have not yet fully considered the state that would leave our world in."
Stain did not nod this time, though he also didn't frown. His face remained neutral as he looked to the next person in line, Spinner.
"I am like you gre-... Stain. I aspire to rid the world of all the fake heroes who pretend to be warriors of justice, yet only act in service to themselves. The world would surely be a better place without them weighing down the world, asserting their dominance over those weaker than them, delivering their false justice in the hopes of boosting their own image. They do not deserve to be called heroes, and I wish to make the whole world see this." Spinner recited his goal in almost a single breath. When he finally finished, the scaled-man had to take a few deep breaths.
As for Stain, he gave an approving nod, a tiny smile on his face.
"Another like me. I should have known based on his apparel. I'll be watching this one closely."
Next, Stain rested his gaze on Twice, who looked away uncomfortably. Peter could see his mouth moving underneath his thin mask, but he spoke too quietly to make anything out. From what Peter could hear, what he was saying made no sense. In the regular Twice fashion, he constantly changed the structure of his sentence and his voice.
It was strange, but Peter could tell that Twice felt stressed out. Even through his mask, the man seemed to be clearly unsettled.
"Come to think of it, what is it Twice wants to achieve?" Peter wondered.
He had known Twice for a long time now, but the two of them had hardly spoken to each other. Twice always sat and listened when Peter told his stories, but for the most part, he really only talked to Toga and Magne. In all honesty, Peter really didn't know much about him.
Stain tried to remain patient with the bumbling man, but he was clearly becoming increasingly annoyed. Just when Stain opened his mouth - likely to spit out an insult or to demand an answer - Toga got up and walked over to Twice. The short girl placed a comforting hand on his shoulder and gave a comforting smile.
"It's okay. I'm here for you."
Twice hardly seemed to acknowledge her, but Peter was pretty sure he caught a glimpse of a smile through his mask.
"... I… I just want a place for myself." Stain raised an eyebrow. "I… I really just want a place where… where people are okay with me. With who I am, with how I am. I… already have what I want, and I'm willing to help them get what they want in return." The ninja spoke without a single break in his sentence. For once, his voice remained the same throughout his entire statement.
Peter was genuinely shocked. He had never heard Twice go that long without disrupting his own sentence somehow. It was a bit weird though. The whole time, it sounded like Twice was straining against something, like he was forcing his voice to remain clear.
"Hm. Only in it for yourself then." Stain commented coldy. His statement seemed to anger Toga, who stood up and glared fiercely at the hero killer.
"Hey, Twice is-"
"But," Stain raised a hand in a peaceful gesture to calm the girl down. "While I find it hard to stomach your selfish desire, I can appreciate your willingness to cooperate with the others. You may still be a useful ally yet." Stain admitted, his tiny smile once again adorning his face.
"So I'm next then?" Dabi asked nonchalantly. "I definitely don't owe you a full explanation. I could care less if you stay or go, but what the hell? I guess I'll tell you some of it."
Stain remained passive, his eyes never leaving the scarred man.
"To put it simply, I'm after somebody. I don't have some noble goal like changing society like everyone else. There's no politics, no uprising, just good old-fashioned revenge, you feel me? Though, I admit I wouldn't mind if a few things in our society were different." Dabi didn't bat an eye when Stain's gaze hardened.
That was a bit… troubling. Peter had seen what desire for revenge could do to people. It tore them apart, made them do things they regretted, caused them to throw their lives away in pursuit of something that brought them no relief from what they were feeling. For a short time, he himself had acted under the influence of a desire for revenge.
Peter made a mental note to have a talk with Dabi later.
"Of all of you here, I would consider 3 of you to be like-minded individuals, 2 of you to be questionable, and," Stain's gaze returned to Dabi, who flipped him off. "1 of you to be not worth my time. I have decided. I… am going to work with you, at least for now. You will have my full support for the time being, but there is one thing I want to know first."
Stain crashed back down into his recliner, adjusted himself to be more comfortable, then pointed a single finger at Peter.
"What about you?"
"... Huh?" Peter was taken aback by the question.
"You have shown me that you are a good man, but there are still a few things I don't know, some pieces of the puzzle I have not connected yet. So, here and now, tell me boy. What are you here for? Can I really trust you, a hero in training, to stick around and be loyal?"
"..."
"... Pft. HAHAHAHHA! ARE YOU SERIOUS?!"
Now it was Stain's turn to look shocked. After a few seconds of silence, Toga had begun laughing uncontrollably, with half the room joining her.
"Look buddy, I understand you wanting to be cautious, but there's no way in hell Peter here would ever betray us." Magne sauntered up behind the couch Peter was sitting on and lazily draped an arm over his shoulder. "Trust me, he's had a million opportunities to arrest us, betray us, or just generally throw us under the bus, yet we're still here, home free and enjoying ourselves. If Peter wanted to betray us, he would have done it a long time ago. He's a good boy. We can all trust him."
Peter felt a bit embarrassed by Magne's praise, though it felt nice that she was vouching for him, and it wasn't just her. The others in the room also nodded their heads in agreement, even Dabi.
"Hm. It is good to know the others would place this much trust in you, though my request stands. I don't care if one of you pulls out a phone and shows me a video of him taking a bullet for you, I still want to hear his reasons. I ask you again boy, why are you here? What do you hope to achieve? What do you plan to do?" Stain repeated, practically demanding a response.
Peter didn't really know how to respond. Without thinking about it, his goals were obvious. Help his friends, make their quality of life better, and help others like them.
But how would that happen? What exactly was the plan? Do things their own way, beat up other heroes, maybe spray paint some buildings? This wasn't some simple goal to achieve, they were talking about changing society here.
Was the goal to remove the current heroes? Was it to keep them around and convince them to do things differently?
Peter didn't have an answer.
"I… I don't know." Stain's eyes narrowed. "I know my endgame. I want to help you all to make this world better, to make things better for all the people out there who aren't treated well because of their quirks. But I honestly have no idea how I'll make that happen. I've been here for so long, told myself so many times what I want to happen, but never once did I come up with a concrete plan." Peter sunk deeper into his seat with every word. Stain still said nothing, though he waved a hand to prompt Peter to continue.
"... I think… I would start with trying to find others. Not all heroes are just in it for the paycheck. All Might, my teacher, Eraserhead, and lots of others are good people. If nothing else, it would be helpful having more people with us, especially if they're well-known heroes. Nobody's going to listen to a bunch of criminals and their vigilante friend, but if we had popular heroes with us? We could get a lot more support, especially since all the group's done so far is attack UA."
Stain raised a hand to his chin in thought. Only a second or two passed before he dropped his hand.
"You haven't planned out anything. You have big dreams, but never considered the path to get there. I find it difficult to see you as the Spider-Man I saw on that news report all those months ago. Tell me, how are you the same person? Why should I consider this practically useless child in front of me to be the same as the true hero who preached his views to the nation?" Stain inquired. His voice wasn't hostile, though it wasn't exactly friendly either.
Peter felt Toga bristling next to him. Before she could start yelling, he placed a hand on her shoulder and lightly kept her in her seat.
"It's fine. He's got a point." Peter spoke in a calming tone. "I admit, I don't sound very trustworthy right now. As for why Peter the nerd and Spider-Man the hero are the same…"
It was now the young hero's turn to pause and think. This needed to be good. Stain was an undoubtedly useful ally, and losing him would weaken the group as a whole.
But in all honesty, this went beyond convincing Stain, it was also about Peter convincing himself. Why was he the same? Peter knew he meant what he said before, but how could he follow through on his words? It was like somebody saying they wanted to be a doctor, but skipping out on actually studying any sort of medical knowledge. Peter had a dream, but no plan, and that was the major problem here.
So, the question was, what would the plan be? Sooner or later, the small group had to move forward, and they needed a direction, orders to follow, a path to tread. The only thing that was certain was that they couldn't continue what they had been doing. If the random attacks from before went on, not a single person would see them as anything more than a group of villains.
Then, in a sudden flash of inspiration, Peter got an idea.
"I'll tell you why I'm the same, Stain. Peter and Spider-Man both want to help people. We both hate when people are mistreated, pushed down or walked over because of something they can't control. Everything Spider-Man wants to do, Peter wants the same. I want to change society, I want to change the way people are looked at and treated, and I've got a plan on how to do it."
Peter was standing now, and Stain's eyes reflected a bit of interest.
"The only problem is, I would need all of you to play a part, and I don't know how well what I'm about to say would go over. I'll be honest, a lot of you probably won't be happy about this." Peter admitted, earning a few sharp looks from the room's occupants.
"Oh, well that's a great start to your pitch. At least you're telling us in advance that we'll be pissed off by the end of this." Dabi snarked, chuckling slightly.
"I have to admit, I'm not exactly filled with confidence right now Peter." Spinner added sheepishly, scratching the back of his head nervously. The rest of the criminals shared similar thoughts.
Obviously, Peter expected this reaction. It would probably be stranger if they were all overly eager after hearing his… questionable pitch. Before speaking again, he took a quick breath and steadied himself, ensuring he was prepared for any negative reactions.
"I think you should consider vigilantism."
Yeah, the following reaction was more or less expected. None of them outright insulted Peter, but…
"THE HELL ARE YOU THINKING!?"
"VIGILANTISM?! YOU'RE SERIOUS?!"
"I don't think the public would appreciate my pretty face as much as you do." Dabi was the only one to remain somewhat calm. The others… not so much.
Stain looked intrigued, though still angry. Twice and Compress wore masks, though it was easy to guess what kinds of faces they were making. Spinner seemed curious, but apprehensive, and Toga… it was hard to trace her emotions. She looked as if she was caught between smiling and frowning, and her mouth stayed shut after Peter finished talking. Magne simply looked annoyed.
"Just hear me out." Peter raised both hands in a peaceful gesture. It took a few seconds, but the room eventually quieted down.
"Thank you. Just think about it, okay? None of you are out to hurt people right? That's why you didn't side with Shigaraki before he left. And I know none of you like associating with casual criminals who act just to improve their own lives."
Peter received a few begrudging nods in response. Nobody tried to stop him, so he continued.
"Well then, why is vigilantism such a bad idea? You'd be helping to get rid of the people who give a bad image to those with so-called 'villainous quirks,' and you'd be helping people. Plus, nobody will listen to the villains who only attack them, but they might listen to the people who keep them safe. Besides, it could help draw out the real heroes in the world."
Spinner perked up when Peter finished.
"Wait, what do you mean? Draw out the real heroes? I don't understand." The scaled man tilted his head to the side quizzically. Peter smiled, happy to explain further.
"Think about it. The heroes always say that people only become vigilantes for the attention of fame, but they're the ones who really do that. They're the ones who are paid to help people. Vigilantes like me do it for free, even if it means people hating them or trying to arrest them. If we all start going out there helping people for nothing in return, we could inspire others to do the same, and find more people who think the way we do."
"That doesn't solve any of our problems though." Magne pointed out. "Fine, we'll find others who think like we do, but that doesn't actually accomplish any of our goals. We won't remove the current heroes, we won't change the way people are treated for their quirks, we'll just find more people we have to take care of. If anything, it adds a problem."
"You're only seeing the negatives. They're not just people we have to look out for, they're people who can look out for us. They're people who will be out there helping people for the right reasons and drawing attention to themselves in the process, which would hopefully show people what real heroes look like. People who don't need rewards to help others. The heroes will try to twist it and call them criminals, but look at me. I spent two weeks as Spider-Man, the illegal hero, but even I had a few people who liked me in that short time. Think about the response to a lot of people doing the same. It'd be a message, one that doesn't require killing anybody." Peter sent a not-so-subtle look at Stain when he was done speaking.
Nobody in the room looked convinced, but they didn't appear hostile anymore either. Many of them seemed to be deep in thought, especially Spinner and Stain.
"What would you propose for the false heroes then? Are you saying they should be allowed to continue going around, sullying the title of hero, pretending they stand for something besides themselves?" Stain questioned.
"I'm not saying anything about them. One thing can be taken care of at a time. I haven't thought of something for them yet, but I have the first step planned out. We can do this, get people on our side, and see how it goes. Obviously, we won't be very popular at first, but you're all well-known criminals by now anyway, so what does it matter? This is a chance to make people see you as something more, not as heartless criminals, but as people who just want to make a change for the better." Peter replied patiently. So far, nobody had freaked out too much, so this was actually going better than expected.
"I don't like this." Toga admitted. She already seemed guilty for saying just that. "I-I'm sorry, but I don't think this is a good idea."
"It's fine." Peter assured the vampire girl. "It's just an idea. If something's wrong, you're free to say what you think is bad about it."
Toga hesitated for a moment, then opened her mouth to speak.
"We… maybe we don't want to hurt people more than we have to, but I don't know how much I want to protect them either. These are the same people who went along with how things are, the people who pushed us all down because of our quirks or our appearances. We were treated badly our whole lives, and now you want us to forget that and help them?"
That was a fairly valid argument. Years of insults and hatred didn't just vanish. It was only natural that nobody in the room was very eager to turn around and become heroes to the same people who made them miserable.
Peter realized he was still standing. Quickly reseating himself, he turned to Toga and addressed her statement.
"Listen guys, I never got mistreated because of my abilities, so I won't pretend to understand how you feel. But you have to think of it from their perspective. They were raised to think that there's nothing wrong with how things are now. From their point of view, there's nothing wrong with the way they treated you because of your quirks. I know that might not make it better, but this is an opportunity. We can show them that they're wrong, that the things they're taught are wrong. It'll take time, but it could be the first step to changing society."
Toga considered Peter's words. Her bright smile wasn't back yet, but she wasn't frowning anymore. That was something at least.
"You know, not one of you has asked the important question yet." All heads turned to Dabi. The scarred man had remained mostly silent ever since Peter announced the beginning of his plan. Dabi wore his usual annoyed scowl on his face, though it carried more anger now.
"What happens when heroes come? You think we're never going to be in a situation where some idiot shows up and tries to arrest me? Let's say I play along with your plan. I play the part of the good little hero and start helping people. What do you expect me to do when somebody shows up to arrest me? I'm guessing I'm supposed to just knock them out, not kill them? And what am I supposed to do that with exactly? Fire's not known for it's low fatality rates, you know." As if to prove his point, Dabi raised his hand and lazily created a small flame in his palm.
Once again, that was a fair point. Some of the villains may have been fit enough to simply evade and knock out a hero, like Spinner or Magne, but the others didn't have those abilities. Toga could simply hide, Compress could shrink the heroes and leave before returning them to normal, but what about Twice and Dabi? They didn't have many options for hiding or safely dealing with a hero. To escape without killing somebody, they would have to rely on luck, which wasn't good enough.
"Well-"
"If that's the problem, how about you get off your lazy ass and do some training?" Spinner jumped in, surprising Peter. Dabi looked annoyed by the insult, but didn't give much reaction to it.
"Lazy, huh? You talking to me, scaly?"
"Obviously. You've done plenty of training with your quirk, but how often do you train your body? What happens when you overuse your quirk? Are you just going to hope your opponents will have worn themselves out by then? Look at me. I've spent plenty of time training my body and fighting skills, and this is the result." Spinner flexed both arms, showing off his impressive muscles. Seeing this gave Peter an idea.
"Actually, he's got a point. My teacher has a quirk that lets him erase other people's quirks. What's your plan if you go against him? He could easily detain you if you aren't prepared to fight without it. I might have increased strength and speed, but I still took the time to learn how to fight properly. Your quirks are strong, but you should still consider learning how to fight without them." Peter reasoned. They didn't have to start now, but it would be unwise to go forward without anybody spending time on themselves rather than their powers.
Dabi didn't look happy, but he seemed to be done with the conversation, so he returned to silently brooding.
"Look, I know this isn't perfect. There's a lot of holes in this plan, but it really could benefit us. There are so many upsides to you all becoming vigilantes. You're all criminals already. It can't get any worse, so you may as well try and make things better. You want people to listen to you, right? Who do you think they're more likely to listen to? The criminals who hurt people… or the criminals who save people?"
There were no replies. Everybody present seemed to be trying to find a flaw in the argument, but it was admittedly sound logic.
"While I will occasionally help an endangered citizen, rescuing has never been my first priority. My M.O. has always been to go against the false heroes. However, what you say is true." Stain surrendered the argument to Peter. "Hm… I will… try your way. My mission against the heroes can wait. For now. But if we do not get results, I will not continue going down this path."
With no further words, Stain turned to the door and began to leave.
"Hey, wait! Where are you going?" Peter asked."
"I am going to get results. I have rested and none of my current injuries will impede me. I see no reason to not get started on your plan. The sooner I begin, the sooner I will see if this plan has merit or not." Stain replied before leaving the room.
"So then, he's going on patrol? Well, that's what I wanted, so I guess it's good news." Peter thought.
There were a few more questions exchanged, before Spinner also stood up.
"I agree with Stain. The longer we sit around, the longer it will take to see if we can truly make a difference this way. I will… become a vigilante. I trust you Peter. If I didn't think this could work, I wouldn't even bother."
With that, Spinner too left the room.
"It seems like an interesting idea. Besides, I find myself growing bored. Perhaps I will find enjoyment in combat against my fellow lawbreakers. And, as you said, we may attract others like us. Our goal is to go against society itself after all. It's a revolution I suppose, and a revolution needs manpower." Mr. Compress was the next to leave.
"... Hell with it, why not?" Magne huffed.
"Wait, really?" Peter was honestly surprised. "I didn't think you'd agree this quickly."
"I'm not agreeing just yet kid. I figure this plan has got a 30/70 chance of working. I haven't decided just yet if I want to prove myself wrong or right. Like the lizard and the edge lord said, the sooner we start, the sooner we'll get answers. I don't want to put this off any more than I have to."
Her explanation finished, Magne followed Mr. Compress out the door.
Nobody else rose to leave. It was now just Peter, Toga, Twice, and Dabi in the room.
"They'll be fine right? They won't kill anybody?" Peter asked nervously.
"Well… I don't think lizard boy or Magne will. Compress… eh, he's a bit of a wild card. I'd be worried about Stain if I were you." Dabi shrugged.
Peter leaned back on the sofa. Already he was trying his best to come up with more plans for if this plan worked, as well as plans for if it didn't. Hopefully, the latter plans wouldn't be necessary.
Stain was a concern, but Peter decided to trust him. The man was committed to sending a message that matched his agenda, and he seemed to be genuinely interested in assisting Peter with this particular step of the plan. As long as Peter wasn't misplacing his trust, Stain wouldn't kill anybody.
"Well, that's it then. What now?"
"...Hey, Toga. You drained a bunch of his blood right? Why don't you try turning into him?" Dabi suggested. Toga brightened up a little, seemingly interested in the idea. Peter, however, was not.
"Uh, i-is that really necessary? You don't have to turn into me, do you?" After all the freaky people he fought in the past, Peter still wasn't totally comfortable with people assuming his appearance. Unfortunately, Toga paid his protests no mind.
The short girl stood up from the couch and walked to the center of the room so everybody present could easily see her. She clasped her hands behind her back and sent a teasing smile at Peter, who was still protesting. It wasn't long before her skin shifted into the familiar grey slime that appeared whenever she used her quirk.
There was no stopping it at this point, so Peter stopped protesting and slumped in his seat. Not even a second passed before he bolted upright once more.
"Wait, her quirk doesn't copy clothes, right?!"
Jumping out of his chair, Peter dashed to the far corner of the room where there was a small rack with thin blankets on it. Grabbing the first blanket he could reach, a simple black one, he whipped around…
To see that he was too late. Toga had finished transforming into him, and was now standing as a perfect copy.
Internally screaming, Peter dashed back and threw the blanket over his clone, covering it from sight.
"PUT THIS ON!" The first problem taken care of, Peter turned to the other two people in the room, making sure they weren't watching anymore.
Twice, for some reason, was covering his eyes, though he uncovered them every now and then to look through his fingers. Dabi retained his neutral expression. When he caught Peter looking at him, he simply said-
"Nice unit Peter."
Groaning loudly, Peter fell to his knees.
"It could be worse. At least it was just them, and not everybody else. Wait a minute…"
Peter whirled his head around to look back at Toga, who seemed to be covering herself carefully, but Peter could see her trying to subtly look underneath. She was very slowly moving the blanket away from herself while also peeking downwards.
"TOGA, NO LOOKING!" He screamed.
Outside the Bar:
Aizawa was hunched on another rooftop. He found himself in front of an unassuming brick building. There were no signs or storefronts on the building, nothing at all to make it look special.
After several hours of tracking, he had continued to find himself in front of this one building. It wasn't anything special and it was fairly isolated, which made it the perfect place for a hideout.
"This might be it. I'll need to scout around and make sure that-" A loud clanking noise made Aizawa duck down, pressing himself onto the roof.
There was a metal door on one side of the building. It looked as if it had been broken many times in the past, and it clanked loudly when it was pushed open. And from the building came…
"So, where do we start?" The familiar lizard man from the USJ attack came into view. Just like Midoriya's group had said, he was wearing Peter's suit.
"It looks like Stain's already long gone. What a team player he is." A feminine voice responded. It was another of the USJ attackers.
"This is our first outing of this kind, so I suggest we simply stay together and look for incidents that need resolving. While staying hidden of course." And there it was. Another of the USJ villains was here. Aizawa was absolutely certain now. This had to be the villains' hideout, and Peter had to be inside.
The shaggy man watched the 3 villains leave. He waited until they were out of sight before he pulled out his phone. Aizawa scrolled through his contacts before finding the one he needed. The phone only reached it's second ring before somebody picked up.
"Hello?"
"Tsukauchi, I found where Peter is being held. It looks like the main hideout for a villain group. I'm sending you my address. Send other heroes here immediately."
"Understood. I'll be there as soon as I can." The detective was experienced enough to not ask questions. He would do what was asked of him before heading over himself to make sure everything was fine.
Aizawa put his phone away and moved to another rooftop where he could keep a better eye on the door to the building. He wasn't foolish enough to rush in. It would be smarter and safer to wait for backup before making a move on the complex.
What he didn't know was that he wasn't perfectly hidden. Barely a block away, there was another man who had seen him arrive and was now keeping a watchful eye on him.
"A fake? Should I kill him? Hm… not yet. I'll wait to see what he does first." From his own position, Stain slumped against a brick chimney and kept his gaze trained on the lone hero.
Outside the Bar (Again):
"Is this the place?"
"Did you not see the villains leaving just now? Obviously this is the place." Todoroki bit back, making Kaminari sweatdrop.
Thanks to their suits giving them the means to track Peter's suit, the 5 boys had found what they were looking for after just a few short hours. Of course, it would have gone faster if they didn't have to remain out of sight of any and all heroes they encountered, just in case they were recognized.
"What's our plan now?" Kirishima asked.
The boys were huddled behind a dumpster. When the door to the building opened, they had ducked for cover to make sure they remained hidden.
"Normally I would say that we should wait and call for backup, but that would make it clear that we snuck out here. But since so many of the villains just left the building, this could be a good opportunity to head inside. There will be fewer people inside, so we might be able to get Peter quickly without anybody seeing us." Midoriya explained.
"And if we are seen, there's enough of us that we should be able to fight our way out." Todoroki added.
"R-right, but hopefully it won't come to that." Midoriya replied nervously.
"Makes sense to me, but shouldn't we find another way in? The front door seems like a bad idea to me. What about, like a back door or a window or something?" Kaminari suggested. Todoroki gave a slightly surprised look.
"Did you just say something smart for once?" Kaminari didn't bother to respond, instead turning his head with an offended look.
"Don't start fighting now, not when we're this close. Come on, let's look for a way in." Kirishima stood up and crept out from behind the dumpster. The other boys soon followed, sticking close behind him.
The small group wandered around the sides of the building, looking for an entry point. There weren't any doors, but they had found a few windows. There was one window that was noticeably bigger than the others. The boys agreed that it would be their entry point.
"See anybody?" Midoriya asked quietly. Kirishima had wedged a hardened finger into the crack between the window and the wall and quietly pried it open. He was now leaning his head through the curtains on the other side and peaking in.
"Nah, I don't see anybody, it's just a big bar. This is probably the best we're gonna get."
"Then let's go. We get in, get Peter, and get out."
"Right. What could possibly go wrong?" Kaminari asked jokingly.
I feel like this chapter will have some pretty mixed reviews, most of which will probably be fairly negative. Then again, I've thought that before and I've been surprised, so I guess we'll see.
Obviously, next chapter is going to be a big one. Let's all send up a prayer for Peter, who definitely won't be having a good time.
I don't have much else to say, so I guess I'm done.
Thanks for reading and remember to leave a review.
