Slow Dance – Kelly Clarkson

You're tall dark and handsome

You're charming and then some

Know how to romance 'em

But I see through it all

You do everything too fast

You move like a whiplash

You're missing the romance

And I see through it all

How did you go from being a momma's boy to a ladies man?

I'm not goin' home with you tonight

But you can hold my hand

And we can take it slow and

I can show you how to slow dance

We can take it slow and

I can show you how to slow dance

You're so unassuming

You know what you're doin'

You're looking right through me

And you don't realize

I just see a scared boy

Who's lookin' for new toys

Just tryin' to fill a void

And you don't realize

How did you go from being a momma's boy to a ladies man?

I'm not goin' home with you tonight

But you can hold my hand

And we can take it slow and

I can show you how to slow dance

We can take it slow and

I can show you how to slow dance

How did you go from being a momma's boy to a ladies man?

I'm not goin' home with you tonight

But you can hold my hand

We can take it slow and

I can show you how to slow dance

We can take it slow and

I can show you how to slow dance

And we can take it slow and

I can show you how to slow dance

We can take it slow and

I can show you how to slow dance

He had entered the ball with one intension: to take as many of Miss Thompson's dances as possible. Unfortunately, he could not spot her anywhere. He had hoped to get at least one waltz. Then he spotted Penelope. She would know where her cousin was.

"Pen." He was surprised that she was not dressed head to toe in yellow. It seemed he had surprised her by the way she had jumped when he had called out her name.

"Colin! I did not know you would be here." But he had been certain she would be here. She would have to be on death's door for her mother to allow her to miss a ball.

"Sorry to disappoint." He was joking. Penelope never seemed disappointed to see him which was quite the boost to the ego. "Have you seen Miss Thompson?"

"She is ill." Well now he was disappointed. "My Mama had to stay home with her." That would surely make Miss Thompson feel worse. "Papa had to chaperone. I am quite enjoying the fact that he is here." Her father seemed pre-occupied and appeared to have forgotten that he had three daughters, let alone that he was supposed to be chaperoning them. "Mama would never allow me to wear a dress like this. Not uh yellow enough I think." He had to admit she looked quite pretty. Yellow did absolutely nothing for her. The colours she wore tonight were much more becoming.

"Mr Bridgerton." Cressida Cowper. The last person he wanted to speak to right now and she always seemed to target Penelope with her cruel jibes. "I believe you owe me a dance this evening. And I have only one more space remaining on my card at present." There were many other young ladies he would prefer to dance with. All had much more pleasing dispositions than Cressida Cowper.

"How convenient." Penelope said exactly what he had just thought. Although he seriously doubted Cressida would have tipped her drink down him as she had just done to Penelope.

"Penelope, I did not see you." That was unlikely since Penelope was a redhead in a sea of blonds and brunettes.

"I'm afraid I cannot offer you that dance, Miss Cowper." Nor did he want. "I am to escort Miss Featherington to the floor." I reached and take her hand and lead her to the dancefloor. She looks stunned but when the music starts up she really starts to enjoy herself. She is an excellent dancer and always a joy to dance with. My disappointment at Miss Thompson's absence vanishes.

My evening is definitely better than Cressida Cowper's evening. Every time she goes near a Bridgerton, my siblings walk in the opposite direction. Benedict asks Penelope to dance later in the evening and I feel relief that Cressida hasn't ruined her evening. That is another successful ball under my belt.
