After You - Meghan Trainor/AJ Mitchell
Is this all we get, one short life
Tell me we got time
I saw a world without you there
Somehow you were mine
And no, please don't go
Please don't go and leave me alone
Don't wanna give my heart to someone new
Won't be anybody after you
And even if one day our time is through
Won't be anybody after you,
After you
I'll never find another lover, after you
If you have to go, be my ghost
Hope you haunt my dreams
So I won't be alone cause I'd give up hope
If you weren't there for me
And no, please don't go
Please don't go and leave me alone
Don't wanna give my heart to someone new
Won't be anybody after you
And even if one day our time is through
Won't be anybody after you,
After you
I'll never find another lover, after you
I won't be able to move on, baby
I won't be able to love nobody else
So if you go
Won't you take me with you?
Don't leave me alone
Don't wanna give my heart to someone new
Won't be anybody after you
And even if one day our time is through
Won't be anybody after you,
After you
I'll never find another lover, after you
This had gone far enough. It shouldn't have gotten to an engagement. When Colin excused himself from Prudence's awful singing, she followed. Part of her couldn't handle another off-key note from Prudence anyway.
"Colin! Might I have a word?" She had partaken in three glasses of wine already tonight so had built up quite a bit of Dutch courage.
"Pen. Of course." Sometimes he made her feel as though everything she said was so important when the rest of the world made her feel invisible.
"It is a rather delicate matter. I wish I did not have cause to raise it, but I believe you deserve to know." She also wished she had another glass of wine.
"Is there something on my face? Has it been there all evening? It has, hasn't it?" She would have found him adorable and amusing if she wasn't attempting to stop him from being used and hurt in the process. "Sorry. Um, go on."
"I have wanted to talk to you since the engagement was announced, but we were always in company." Her Mama seldom left her alone with Colin these days, even if it meant her sisters sticking to her like glue which annoyed them as much as it annoyed her.
"So, this is something about Marina?" He doesn't seem too surprised. Perhaps he had been paying attention to her earlier attempts.
"Her heart belongs to another." Her own heart belonged to Colin and if Marina's feelings for Colin had been true she would have kept quiet and suffered in silence.
"What?" So perhaps he hadn't been paying attention. Well there was no stopping now. "His name is Sir George Crane. He is a first son, a soldier. They grew up in neighbouring properties in the country. I am sorry, but I have seen their love letters. I felt you should know before it was too late." Also, she was still hoping that Sir George would find his way back to Marina.
When Colin took hold of her hand, her heart skipped a beat. "You really are very good. You know that?" Then why did she feel so traitorous? "Did you think that I would care that she had fond feelings for another before we met?" Well it was more than just fond feelings. "It would be rather rich of me considering I have flirted with half the girls in London at one point or another." Nobody ever became with child by flirting. At least she did not think they did. She was still trying to find out more information on that.
"No, you misunderstand. Theirs was no mere flirtation. Marina loves this man. She loves him still." Which made it so much more worse that she would be willing to trick another man into marrying her and convincing him the child she was carrying was his. What if Sir George came back for Marina and his child? Where would that leave Colin then?
"And yet she's marrying me." Unbelievable. "Trust me Pen, do not fret. I know my mind and Marina's. We understand each other." The understanding in this relationship is definitely one sided. How well could you really know a person after a few weeks anyway?
Marina appeared to tell her that Portia was asking for her and Colin remained oblivious. She headed back to her sister's terrible singing. Colin is a step closer to marrying someone who didn't love him and she is a step closer to spinsterhood. She would never marry. Colin had ruined her for anyone else. Even if someone else was interested.
