Sweetest Devotion – Adele
With your loving there ain't nothing that I can't adore
The way I'm running with you honey means we can break every law
I find it funny that you're the only one I never looked for
There is something in your loving that tears down my walls
I wasn't ready then, but I'm ready now
I'm heading straight for you
You will only be eternally the one that I belong to
The sweetest devotion
Hit me like an explosion
All of my life I've been frozen
The sweetest devotion I know
I'll forever be whatever you want me to be
I'd go under and all over for your clarity
When you wonder if I'm gonna lose my way home
Just remember that come whatever I'll be yours all along
I wasn't ready then, but I'm ready now
I'm heading straight for you
You will only be eternally the one that I belong to
The sweetest devotion
Hit me like an explosion
All of my life I've been frozen
The sweetest devotion I know
I've been looking for you baby
In every face I've ever known
And there is something about the way you
Love me that finally feels like home
You're my light, you're my darkness
You're the right kind of madness
You're my hope, you're my despair
You're my scope of everything everywhere
The sweetest devotion
Hit me like an explosion
All of my life I've been frozen
The sweetest devotion I know
The sweetest, it's the sweetest
The sweetest, it's the sweetest
The sweetest, it's the sweetest
Devotion
Penelope watched as Cousin Jack reluctantly rowed a jubilant Prudence around the lake. Jack looked as though he was heading to the gallows. What had her mother done? It was obvious that Jack had no wish to marry Prudence or even had any interest in her other than that of a cousin. The poor man couldn't have been more obvious if he had blurted out 'the last thing I want to do is marry you' for everyone to hear. One day hopefully soon, Prudence would realise that and look for someone who loved her or at least wanted to marry her.
She couldn't help the smile that crossed her face as Colin walked up to her. "Your sister seems … happy." More like delusional but to anyone outside the Featherington family, it probably looked that way. Still, it was always good to see Colin and this time it seemed he had come looking for her.
"That is one way of putting it." Prudence's shrieking and hollering to get attention was embarrassing Cousin Jack. It did not bode well for the rest of the family either. She supposed that was the good thing about no one noticing her, the embarrassment would be heaped on her mother, Jack and Prudence. She couldn't help but feel sorry for her cousin.
"The new Lord Featherington seems an interesting fellow. A man of commerce, is he not?" Colin was taking an interest in her family? That was a first. Not that he avoided her but the rest of the family most people seemed to steer clear of. In moments like this, she completely understood why.
"He has ruby mines in America. They are flourishing, I hear." Although Jack didn't speak about them often in her presence, possibly because he didn't think it would interest her.
"Well perhaps I should introduce myself. After all, everyone else is finding some purpose to their lives. Antony is to be married. Benedict has his artistic pursuits. And well, here I am … feeding the ducks." How could he not think he had a purpose?
"Well, I am sure the ducks are most grateful." She could list his accomplishments, but he wouldn't take her seriously. He would just think she was being a good friend. "You have a good deal of time and plentiful opportunities to make your mark." She was certain his future held great things.
"As Eloise would no doubt remind me." Interesting that Eloise had not appeared to interrupt them. In fact, she had not seen her all day.
"Where is your sister? I have not seen her out today." It was unusual which in itself was unsettling. What was Eloise up to now?
"She mentioned something about flower arranging with you, today, in fact." He looked confused that she wasn't with his sister as if he had only just realised that she wouldn't be here talking to him if she had plans with Eloise.
"Indeed. I am in fact meeting her later." She certainly would be now. If Eloise was going to use her as an alibi, the least she could do was warn her first. She didn't like lying to Colin.
Clearly flower arranging held little interest for Colin as he excused himself, leaving her to wonder what trouble Eloise was getting into now. And what had prompted Colin to seek her out. Usually, it was the other way around. Not that she was not flattered but first things first. She needed to find Eloise.
