All Along – Richard Marx

Stranger in the mirror,

I was just somebody else

Stumblin' through the night

So lost that I didn't even know myself

You came out of nowhere just in time

One more minute, I'd have lost my mind

And there was something' 'bout the way you looked at me

Shut the door on everything I used to be

I found myself in your arms

Now, I don't wanna know a world without your love nothin' but you could even be enough

Yeah you were the one

You were the one all along

Think about the years I was living' half asleep

Yeah goin' through the motions drowin' in an ocean that felt forever deep

Yeah and you came out of nowhere just in time (oh just in time)

I was days away from goin' blind.

And there was something' 'bout the way you looked at me

Shut the door on everything I used to be

I found myself in your arms (found myself in your arms)

Now, I don't wanna know a world without your love nothin' but you could even be enough

Yeah you were the one

You were the one all along

It was always, it was always, it was always you

It was always, it was always, it was always you (It was always you)

It was always, it was always, it was always you (oh whoa yeah yeah)

It was always, it was always, it was always you

And there was somethin' 'bout the way you looked at me (bout the way)

Shut the door on everything I used to be

I found myself in your arms (found myself in your arms)

Now, I don't wanna know a world without your love

Nothin' but you could ever be enough,

Yeah you were the one, you were the one all along (you were the one yeah, yeah)

It was always, it was always, it was always you

It was always, it was always, it was always you

It was always, it was always, it was always you (it was always you)

It was always, it was always, it was always you

Another day another promenade. He could see loud and boisterous Prudence Featherington on the lake with a miserable looking Lord Featherington. Happily engaged was not the picture they painted. Then there was Penelope watching them, a puzzled expression on her pretty face. It was an intriguing look on her, but she seemed as confused as the rest of the Ton over the engagement.

"Your sister seems … happy." Even if her future husband did not. Although the moment he had spoken to her, Penelope's face lit up with a beautiful smile. And suddenly the only member of the Featherington family he cared was happy, was her.

"That is one way of putting it." The puzzled look was back. Then it was almost as though she shook it off to focus on him.

"The new Lord Featherington seems an interesting fellow. A man of commerce, is he not?" As long as he took care of Penelope and her family, he wasn't really concerned what the man did.

"He has ruby mines in America. They are flourishing, I hear." Interesting. He bet Penelope knew more about him than Prudence did. But then Penelope was a good listener and Prudence liked to hear herself speak.

"Well perhaps I should introduce myself. After all, everyone else is finding some purpose to their lives. Antony is to be married. Benedict has his artistic pursuits. And well, here I am … feeding the ducks." He felt quite disgruntled with himself.

For a moment he thought Penelope was going to recite everything she felt he had achieved but then she seemed to change her mind. "Well, I am sure the ducks are most grateful. You have a good deal of time and plentiful opportunities to make your mark." When had she become so wise? She had always been intelligent but just now she seemed wise beyond her years.

"As Eloise would no doubt remind me." He was certain that his sister had become more annoying since he had returned from travelling.

"Where is your sister? I have not seen her out today." Just lately it seemed as though Eloise turned up and dragged Penelope away when they were in the middle of a conversation.

"She mentioned something about flower arranging with you, today, in fact." He had been certain at the time that Eloise was just trying to get out of any plans their Mother had made for her. But it was unfair of her not to warn Penelope that she had used her as an excuse. He doubted Penelope would have said no to covering for her.

"Indeed. I am in fact meeting her later." He had to give it to Penelope, she thought fast on her feet. Still, he had caught the flicker of confusion on her face before she covered for Eloise. She was a good friend.

Not wishing to put Penelope on the spot any longer, he excused himself. Though he would have preferred to have stayed. Penelope always seemed to see more in him than he saw in himself and was good company.
