If I Told You That – Whitney Houston/George Michael

If I told you that, I wanted to see you

And if I told you that, I beg to please you

If I told you that, I'll always keep you

What would you say, if I told you that

Now tell me how you feel if I told you that I have feelings for you

And would it be so wrong to say what's on my mind, I'm sorry I have to

We were friends but with time

What I feel deep inside for you has changed

But I'd give up on love, if I thought that it was untrue for you

If I told you that, I wanted to see you

And if I told you that, I beg to please you

If I told you that, I'll always keep you

What would you say, if I told you that

I know that we are just friends but what if I decide to bring something in

I hope it won't offend the trust we have 'cause I don't want this to end

If you think that we'll lose what we have

Then I'd just rather stay (rather stay) the same

Cause I don't wanna choose

Between two of the most precious things to me

If I told you that, I wanted to see you

And if I told you that, I beg to please you

If I told you that, I'll always keep you

What would you say, if I told you that

If we take this chance and extend to each other romance

And I hope it would be the right thing for you and me

If I told you that, I wanted to see you

And if I told you that, I beg to please you

If I told you that, I'll always keep you

What would you say, if I told you that

If I told you that, I wanted to see you

And if I told you that, I beg to please you

If I told you that, I'll always keep you

What would you say, if I told you that

Would you be there for me

Could you dare to hold me

Will my feelings leave me

Lonely, if I told you

The day had gone from being the wedding of the season to possibly the wedding that wasn't. Everyone was waiting on the bride to say I do or I don't. Still at least it was a lovely day, not that many noticed, as most were gossiping about what may or may not be the reason for the wedding service coming to halt.

She found Colin by himself taking a swig from his flask. "A celebrity drink? Succeed already Colin?" Judging from his expression, he had not found his purpose yet and today was a harsh reminder of that.

"Only if whatever I've been looking for can be found at the bottom of this flask." He tucked the flask away but managed a smile for her.

"I am certain you will find your purpose one day. Everyone does eventually." She had faith that Colin would do something great one day.

"Have you found yours?" It was quite frankly, flattering of him to ask. Most people would have just assumed she had no purpose.

"Of course not. But I imagine it to be something both animating and satisfying." She had had plenty of time to consider this. "The type of venture that speaks not to who I am but rather who I am to be. My purpose will challenge me to be brave and witty. My purpose will propel me far beyond the watchful glare of my mama. My purpose shall set me free." She had become so comfortable in his presence that she saw no need to censor herself.

"What could possibly measure up to all that?" The admiration on his face was humbling. "Your dreams are grander than you let on, Pen."

"Yes, they are mere fantasies, but I do believe we must allow ourselves those private moments so we may face reality armed with our reveries." She felt as though Colin was truly seeing the real her and not just his friend.

"Lady Crane was right about you." Oh that could not be good. What had Marina told him?

"Lady Crane? What did she say?" And did she really want to hear it repeated?

"That you cared for me." How could he not already know that? "That you would never forsake me. I am beginning to believe that now." He held her gaze for what felt like the longest time. She could have basked in the glow of his smile forever. "It appears we had better nab a piece of cake before it's all gone."

And just like that she was outdone by food. When it came to Colin Bridgerton, some things never changed. And that cake did look good.
