Beautiful ..Cause You Love Me – Girls Aloud
Standing over the basin I've been washing my face in
Jet black mascara racing down my cheeks till I taste it
Staring at my reflection Every slight imperfection
Staring back at me naked as a girl can be
And who would have thought that I'd be so content in my own skin
Right now the whole world could call me ugly
So what, to you I'm not
You don't love me cause I'm beautiful Oh no (my baby, my baby)
I'm beautiful cause you love me (my baby, my baby)
I can tell you the deepest and darkest of my secrets
Knowing that you will keep it. And it won't change our feeling
Every mark on my body, you know every inch of me.
All the parts that I used to hate to glorify
There's a new meaning to freedom when I'm with you
Right now the whole world could call me ugly
So what, to you I'm not
You don't love me cause I'm beautiful Oh no (my baby, my baby)
I'm beautiful cause you love me (my baby, my baby)
There's a new meaning to freedom when I'm with you
Cause right now the whole world could call me ugly
So what, to you I'm not
You don't love me cause I'm beautiful Oh no (my baby, my baby)
I'm beautiful cause you love me (my baby, my baby)
Beautiful cause you love me
She couldn't believe what she was seeing. It was like a knife to the heart. Colin dancing with Cressida Cowper. Cressida glazing up at him, flirting with him and loving being the centre of attention as only Cressida could, but Colin was staring straight at her instead. Didn't he know how often Cressida tortured and belittled her. How could he dance with that witch in her Mother's house?
Just as she was considering leaving the ball to go and nurse her breaking heart in the privacy of her bedroom, Colin walked over to her and took her hand. "Come with me."
He didn't let go of her hand until they were in her father's old office and that was only to close the doors. It was then that it hit her that she was alone with Colin Bridgerton. Truly alone. "Colin, it can be thought quite scandalous the two of us …" Although she wasn't sure she cared to be concerned about this.
"There are no gemstone mines in Georgia." He spoke as though he hadn't heard her. "Your cousin Lord Featherington. I am sorry to be the one to tell you this Pen, but well I have looked into him." This was the most serious she had even seen Colin. "I believe that he is nothing but a mere shallotin."
Surely Colin was mis-informed. Cousin Jack had gone into so much detail regarding the gemstone mines. How could they not exist? "What? What are you saying?" This couldn't be true. Jack was the only family member who didn't treat her like a joke. She didn't know if she was more shocked or disappointed.
"I'm saying if I'm right, then this necklace …" It was the necklace that Cressida had been wearing. The one Cousin Jack had given her. Had there been an altera motive to his dancing with Cressida.
Before he could finish his sentence, Portia and Lord Featherington burst into the room. When Colin shattered the necklace proving it was a fake, her world came crashing down around her. Cousin Jack was supposed to solve their problems, not add to them. Had her Mama known about this?
Colin issued a final warning to Jack and strode out of the room. "Mama?"
Portia looked stunned. "I'll deal with this." Well she had dealt with everything else since her Papa's death. Leaving her Mama to sort the situation with Cousin Jack out, she went in search of Colin.
How could this be happening? Thank goodness for Colin. They had already had to get rid of most the staff once this season. Goodness only knows where the funds had come from to host this ball tonight. She found him downing a glass of champagne. "Colin!"
"Are you alright?" Was she alright? He was the one who had stood up to her cousin and confronted him over his dodgy dealings.
"I believe so." Her heart was beating fast but apart from that she was fine. And she wasn't so sure that Colin wasn't the cause for that rather than the situation that had been uncovered.
"Good." He took her hand again. She could get used to this. "Because we are dancing. I had been rehearsing that speech for hours. If your cousin does not return the money and leave your family alone, I will have another thing to say to him."
He would do that for her family? "You're astonishing Colin. I can not thank you enough for looking after us." If they hadn't been dancing and with other people, she would have hugged him.
"I will always look after you Penelope. You are special to me." Now her heart was skipping beats.
"As are you. To me." Although she was fairly certain that he already knew that. It hadn't escaped her attention that they were dancing to one of the slower tunes. Glancing around her, it appeared others had noticed as well. Other gentlemen were paying close attention to them. That had never happened to her before.
She was slightly disappointed when the dance came to a close. She always enjoyed dancing with Colin and it didn't happen often enough for her liking. But this had been the highlight of her evening.
