Knocked Out – Delta Goodrem
Pushed out from a standing start
Forced to run
I was minding my own heart
Before the gun
I'm the silence in the noise
Just tryin' to break through
Say it's only for the best
So I can breathe
Phoenix buried in the mess
Inside of me
I don't understand the hurt
Or why you put it on me?
So you be who you wanna be and I'll be me
But when I get knocked out
Before you count to ten I'll get up again
And if I get knocked down
After I hit the floor, I'll be coming back at you
Don't underestimate me
Be careful when you hate me
Don't underestimate me
When I get knocked out
I know where I wanna go
That's up to me
Might not be there yet you know
But I will be
There's always something in the way
If you let it stop you
So you be who you wanna be and I'll be me
But when I get knocked out
Before you count to ten I'll get up again
And if I get knocked down
After I hit the floor, I'll be coming back at you
Don't underestimate me
Be careful when you hate me
Don't underestimate me
When I get knocked out
Say its all just been a test, to get back to me
Send an arrow where it hurts, and I'll be ok
There's only one way I can live and that is my way
So you be who you wanna be and I'll be me
But when I get knocked out
Before you count to ten I'll get up again
And if I get knocked down
After I hit the floor, I'll be coming back at you
Don't underestimate me
Be careful when you hate me
Don't underestimate me
When I get knocked out
Don't underestimate me
She shouldn't have been so surprised that she couldn't find Eloise. After all, she detested attending these balls. She tried to get out of every one of them. But she needed to apologise to her. They had both said horrible, hurtful things to each other. But she hated arguing with Eloise and she had lied to her.
Then she spotted Colin. Perhaps he knew where his sister had disappeared to. Just as she reached the statue he was standing in front of, she caught the tail end of a discussion she wished she could un-hear.
"Penelope Featherington." Colin was laughing with the very gentlemen who had been watching them earlier when they were dancing.
"The way you were dancing with her looked rather interesting." Lord Fyfe who had earlier spent 20 minutes in a closet with a young lady. He was hardly one to talk. "You courting the girl Bridgerton?" Dancing together was probably the least scandalous thing they had done this evening. Although she still was not sure how her mama had overlooked Colin being along in a room with her. Possibly the shock of Cousin Jack being a fraud was enough for her to deal with at the moment.
"Are you mad? I would never dream of courting Penelope Featherington." That hurt like a dagger to the heart as she had dreamt of him courting her. "Not in your wildest fantasies, Fyfe." But in every one of hers.
She ran to her room not caring who saw her crying. Her heart was broken into a million pieces. She had not thought that she would ever marry Colin Bridgerton, but she had dreamt of it, and it had been a fantasy or three of hers. She just hadn't expected them to be dashed so publicly.
Whether Colin Bridgerton knew it or not, he had just ensured her future as a spinster. It wasn't so much that she hadn't foreseen that particular future it was more that apparently so had he. This evening had been one disaster after another. And yet when she had been dancing with him though, it had been a dazzling spark in an otherwise dull life.
She sobbed into her pillow until she fell into an exhausted sleep. Perhaps everything would look better in the morning.
