Listen as I speak cos I'm careful as I creep

You got me going crazy and you know I can't sleep

No fortune your moves and you hypnotise me

You got me trembling like a little baby girl

You're so special, you're like diamonds and pearls

You got me spinning and you got me in a twirl

You're my number one baby and you come to rock my world

You're dangerous. Just get it up

The way you move so scandalous

It's all about the two of us

A one night stand just ain't enough

I need some stimulation baby

A little conversation maybe

You got me spinning out like crazy

There goes my baby

He had to know if Lord Debling had proposed to Penelope. He had watched as they had a discussion before Lord Debling had left and then what looked like a tense discussion between Penelope and her mother, before Penelope stormed off, but he had to be sure. He had raced after her in time to see her carriage pulling away.

Spurred on by the need to ensure he still had a chance, he ran after the carriage. "Wait!" Thank God the Featherington driver saw nothing unusual with him wishing to speak with Penelope. He tore open the door out of breath. "Penelope."

"I do not wish to speak to you." She looked less than pleased to see him. He had become so used to her beaming in his presence through previous seasons that it stung when she was angry with him.

"Please! Let me in." If she said no he would respect that. He wouldn't like it and he would find another way, but he would respect it. Luckily she shifted back in her seat so he could climb in.

"We will stop at Bridgerton House first." Well, that put him in his place.

"Yes. Miss." If he wasn't careful she would have him thrown from the moving carriage. That is if she didn't push him out herself.

"What do you want?" Straight to the point. Perhaps that was best.

"Did Lord Debling propose?" He could be straight forward as well.

"What business is that of yours?" Penelope had clearly reached her limit of accepting his behaviour without explanation.

"I need to know. Did he propose?" He would have held his breath for her answer if he wasn't already out of breath having run after the carriage.

"It is odd. When I asked for your help in finding a husband, I did not realise you might try to deny me one as well." He guessed it must look that way when it was actually that it had taken him a while to see what was right in front of him.

"It is my business because I care about you." Care wasn't a strong enough word. He had completely fallen head over heels in love with her. "You cannot marry that man." He couldn't even bring himself to say the man's name. "He will leave you and he is too particular. And he is … He is just not right for you, Pen." His reasons even sounded weak to his own ears.

"He did not propose." Relief flowed through him. "In fact, he rejected me because of you." He hadn't intended for that to happen, even if he was a little pleased. "Because the scene you caused led him to believe you have feelings for me. An idea so preposterous, I do not know what to do besides laugh. Now, will you please let us ride home in silence and leave me alone."

"I cannot." How could she not see how he felt about her? He was certain that he had not hid it well.

"Please!" She was giving him no other choice than to come clean about his feelings for her.

"I cannot. Because …What if I did have feelings for you." He had ignored his feelings for her for years and had even convinced himself that they were nothing more than friends. Pin pointing when he had fallen in love with her was impossible as these feelings had snuck up on him when he wasn't looking.

"What?" And it seemed this was coming as a surprise to Penelope as well.

He fell to his knees before her. "I have spent so long trying to feel less, trying to be the kind of man society expects me to be. And for a moment, I thought I had succeeded." Actually he had found society as difficult to navigate as she had. "But these past weeks have been full of confounding feelings. Feelings like a total inability to stop thinking about you. About that kiss." The mere memory of her soft lips on his left him hard as a rock. "Feelings like dreaming of you when I'm asleep. And in fact preferring sleep because that is where I might find you." His mother had even come close to calling the doctor for him. "A feeling that is like torture. But one which I cannot, will not, do not want to give up.""

"But … Colin, we are friends." Now he realised how she must have felt every time he had said that to her. Until now he hadn't known how insulting it could be.

"Yes, but we…." So he was too late. He had waited too long. "Forgive me. Umm I do not know what I was thinking." He felt waves of regret and embarrassment as his heart broke.

"But I'd very much like to be more than friends." His heart started racing. "So much more."

Searching her face to be sure they were on the same page, he moved in to kiss her. Unlike their last sweet and gentle kiss, this sparked a flame within him that burned fiercely. When they came up for air she ran her hand through his hair with a smirk that he found such an unbelievable turn on.

Kissing her seemed as necessary as breathing. He gripped her waist as he kissed her neck encouraged by her breathy moans. He tugged her sleeve off her shoulder to expose her creamy skin before moving back to her neck. His hand moved to her breast which held a special place in his fantasies. When her hand covered his, he knew there was no going back to them just being friends.

Lost in the passion and desire flowing over them he still managed to maintain enough control to slow his actions so that Penelope could still put a stop to this. Catching her eyes so that she could follow his movements, he ran his hand up her leg, gathering the skirt of her dress as he paused at her knee to allow her to nod her consent before moving to her centre.

It was incredibly erotic watching Penelope come undone at his touch. Her beautiful face changing from stunned to aroused as she moaned with pleasure. He moved back to kissing her neck, the soft skin beckoning him on while his fingers moved encouraging her to grip his shoulders in pleasure.

Knock, knock. They couldn't have already arrived. "Colin. We are at your house."

"Oh God. Could the carriage driver not keep on driving?" This was absurd. When had his friend become such an enchantress? Obviously Penelope was struck by how out of character this was for them as well as they both burst out laughing.

"Do you think anyone saw us? I was not paying much attention to anything." She was not the only one and yet he couldn't bring himself to care about anything other than enticing those breathy moans out of her.

Kissing her passion swollen lips he re-arranged her dress and adjusted some locks of hair so it was less obvious as to what had happened in the carriage.

"What are you doing?" She was amused by his actions. Clearly she had no idea how difficult it was for him not to ask the driver to continue circling the block.

There was no one who could compare to Penelope Featherington. How had it taken so long for him to realise that? There was only one thing for it. He climbed out of the carriage and offered her his hand. "Colin?" She thought he could walk away from her? After what had just happened?

"Are you coming with me?" Propriety dictated he speak to her family first, but they had never played by the rules.

"What?" She looked so adorably confused. "But your … Your family will see me."

His mother probably would not be surprised and the rest of his family already treated Pen as though she was part of the family. Possibly with the exception of Eloise recently. "For God's sake, Penelope Featherington. Are you going to marry me or not?"

So it was not the most romantic way to propose, but the mixture of fear and elation on Penelope's face was confounding. It was with some relief that she took his hand and stepped from the carriage. He was going to marry Penelope Featherington and suddenly all seemed right with the world.
