Chapter 9: Of Convoys and Dates
It was the weekend after Wheeljack had left Jasper to start traveling the universe again, and right now Tiberius was being picked up by Miko and Bulkhead at Knockout Burger to go on the two teen's 'not date' as Miko insisted on calling it with Jack there after his shift was over for support.
This was a bit of a role switch since usually it was the boy who picked up the girl in these situations, however since Optimus was busy at the base, his parents being out of town and the fact that his vehicle mode was way too conspicuous. The teen genius was left with very little other options at the moment.
"Oh man, this is nerve wracking…" He whispered to himself, though was still heard by his friend who put his hand on the blonde's shoulder.
"It'll be fine. Seriously it's a monster truck rally with Miko, what's the worst that could happen?" Jack told him, getting a morse code flash of 'not helping' from Arcie, who had been listening to them talk in her vehicle mode as Tiberius became even more nervous. "Okay… bad choice of words, but you get the point." He amended.
"I guess so… I just hope none of our other classmates are gonna be there and see us." The hybrid sighed. The last thing he needed was the entire school teasing them.
Before either Arcie or Jack could say anything to help him, Bulkhead drove up with Miko in the passenger seat. As the passenger side door opened, Miko stepped out and the three saw that instead of her usual attire she was wearing her same cut off jean shorts, and black tog boots, but she wasn't wearing her leggings and she wore a strapless Slash Monkey crop top T-Shirt.
This of course had the effect of making Tiberius stare at her since he wasn't used to seeing her show so much skin.
'Wow, she looks amazing.' He thought appreciatively. His gaze drifted from her shoulders downward until he reached her legs, which the site of caused his hormones to make his mouth water. Yeah, he had a serious leg fetish.
However, he was snapped out of his thoughts (quite literally in this case) when Miko snapped her fingers to get his attention.
"Hey, my eyes are up here, smart guy." She teased. Jack let out a chuckle while Arcie and Bulkhead vibrated slightly as if they were laughing silently as Tiberius blushed at being caught.
"Uh, sorry, I'm just not used to seeing you showing this much skin is all." The blonde nervously told her, his blush not leaving his face but instead becoming an even deeper shade of red as he added. "You… look really good in that outfit, by the way."
"Aw, thanks." Miko giggled with a blush of her own.
"Alright, let's get moving, you two." Jack said with a grin as he got on Arcie.
"You're going too? I thought you had work?" Miko asked.
"My shift ended early today, so I was able to get some tickets." He said as he held up three of them. "There's one for Raf, one for Sierra, and one for me." He smiled as he and his autobot guardian drove away. "See you guys there!" He called back. The Bioformer and Japanese girl looked at each other before they got in Bulkhead.
"Let's roll." Miko said with a grin.
"Make sure you share the details of what happens." The wrecker replied with an unseen grin as they left for the rally.
(Later)
-Road to the Autobot base-
Optimus was driving back to the base as the sun started to set, when he saw out of the corner of his rear view mirror a very familiar looking car he had seen numerous times when he stayed parked at the Darwin residence. And in the two front seats were two familiar faces: it was the Darwins! They were tailing him.
'Why are they following me?' The Autobots' leader wondered. In truth the husband and wife duo had planned to go out of town to a business convention for the weekend, but decided to make a quick detour when they saw their son's ride driving to the middle of nowhere when said boy was on a date in Vegas.
Naturally, they grew suspicious and started following it to see what was going on. Optimus, not wanting to reveal the location of the base in fear of their safety should the Decepticons be watching, decided to pull off away from prying eyes and highway surveillance and stopped.
This action was copied by the Darwins who then got out of their car and then made their way towards the Semi Truck in front of them.
"Okay, time to solve this little mystery." Serena said as she and her husband continued walking toward the truck. However, both were soon shocked to see that there was no one within the driver's seat!
"What on earth?" Mathias said, dumbfounded as he looked inside the truck.
"There's no way this is a ghost truck. It doesn't work like that." The Darwin matriarch commented with a shake of her head.
"That is because I am not what you refer to as a ghost at all, Mrs. Darwin." Optimus spoke, seeing that his cover was already blown and deciding to face the inevitable.
"What the-?" Mathias got out before Optimus transformed into his robot form, causing the couple to take a few steps back as they looked up at him in surprise.
"You're… You're the same as Tiberius's true form!" Mathias gasped. Optimus nodded as he knelt to their level.
"Yes, I am an Autonomous Robotic Organism from the planet, Cybertron. Otherwise known as an Autobot." The Prime explained. "And my name is Optimus Prime."
"I'm going to assume that your reason for being on our world is due to your own no longer being habitable, correct?" Mathias theorized, getting a nod in return.
"That is correct. I am also here with what remains of my fellow Autobots to protect your world from the Decepticons, Cybertronians who wish to cause harm to Earth and humanity at large." Optimus explained.
"How do you know our son, Tiberius?" Serena asked.
"Some time ago, he was caught in a skirmish between my allies and some Decepticon soldiers, where he began accessing his heritage for the first time. Since then, I have taken him on as my student." The large warrior explained.
Both parents looked at him before looking at each other. "Are you sure that he's taking this well? We're a bit worried about him." The family's patriarch questioned.
"He didn't take it well when his heritage first awoke, but myself and my allies have helped him adjust." Optimus replied. Serena then realized something.
"Wait, there's no way the two of us and our son are the only ones to make contact with you. Are there others?" She questioned.
"Four of his friends, who are all watched over by my allies." The Prime nodded, this clues them into who they were.
"Now things are starting to make sense." The two nodded.
(Elsewhere)
At the Las Vegas arena, Tiberius and Miko were getting their refreshments and then went to their seats. Tiberius, being the gentleman he was, decided to pay for both of their snacks.
"You didn't have to." The girl said as they went to their seats.
"Maybe, but it's the gentlemanly thing to do." The blonde replied with a shrug. This earned him a light punch on the shoulder.
"Some people would call that sexist… I don't though." She grinned as they sat down.
"Wonder which trucks are gonna be here…" The genius mused as they waited.
"I hope we have some famous ones." Miko said in a giddy tone. Soon the lights started to dim as spotlights moved around the arena and Thunderstruck by AC/DC started to play over the speakers and several monster trucks started blasting onto the dirt of the track.
There was El Toro Loco, Blue Thunder, Bulldozer, Bounty Hunter, Dragon, Devastator, Grave Digger, and…
VROOOOM!
The most famous monster truck of them all, Bigfoot, who entered the arena by jumping through a ring of fire as fireworks went off behind it and it spun into a Doughnut before doing a wheelie and stopping in the center of a ring made of the other trucks. The audience instantly went wild and cheered loudly.
"Oh man, this is gonna be awesome!" Miko exclaimed in delight as she took a sip of her soda.
The monster trucks started driving in a circle around Bigfoot before they all took their places at the sides of the arena as forklifts placed cars, trucks and even a couple busses around at different areas for them to drive and jump over. Once that was over, the show began with Blue Thunder going first.
Blue Thunder started out by driving over a ramp and jumping a line of four cars before it slammed into a bus and busted through it after going full speed off the adjacent ramp to the stack it just jumped and then involuntarily did a backflip on another one of the ramps after not being able to stop. This of course caused the tailgate to fly off after it landed on said area after the flip.
"Now that's awesome!" Tiberius said with a grin. Blue Thunder then went and jumped another ramp, but that was pretty much it after that since it took too much damage to drive again afterwards.
Miko, meanwhile, was practically bouncing in her seat as the next truck to go was El Toro Loco, who started doing doughnuts and slamming into cars and trucks while flipping around and going into a tailspin, hitting itself on one of the dirt mounds full force and busting up its hood in the process. Smoke started to billow from the truck as the driver attempted to do another jump, but unfortunately one of its wheels came loose and it skidded to a halt before anything could be done.
Being thoroughly entertained by the show, both Tiberius and Miko reached their hands into their large bag of popcorn while still watching Bounty Hunter, Bulldozer and Dragon doing a triple run, before they felt their hands touch. Both of them looked at each other before they looked away while chuckling nervously.
After the three monster trucks finished their runs, next would be Grave Digger and Bigfoot, but first, the announcer decided to do something that they weren't exactly expecting.
"And now ladies and gentlemen, before we begin our next part of the show, we will do something a little different: The Monster Jam Freestyle couples kiss cam!" The man announced, which got a varied set of reactions from the audience. Tiberius and Miko blushed at what they just heard, and we're honestly hoping that they weren't the ones that got chosen. That would be beyond embarrassing.
The arena soon went dark as the spotlight from before started moving all over the place rapidly before it landed on its randomly chosen targets… Tiberius and Miko. This caused them to feel small, which was a little ironic in the case of the former.
The two were then shown on the Jumbotron and they both looked away from each other as a beet red blush covered their faces accompanied by embarrassed expressions.
"Well this just took an embarrassing turn." Tiberius muttered. He was about to just tell Miko that they should just ignore the prompt, but before he could, the Japanese heavy metal fan suddenly planted a kiss on his cheek. Immediately after, she turned away with her entire face being beet red while the green eyed boy looked stunned.
This was followed by a chorus of 'aw's from the crowd and in the crowd, several of them took videos or pictures of what just occurred. Who were they exactly? The two's classmates.
This was going to be a very long week.
(Later)
The following Monday, everyone was going back to school, but this wasn't an ordinary school day. Why? Simple: The entire school was a buzz with gossip concerning rumors that Tiberius Darwin and Miko Nakadai were dating. And some people just couldn't stop teasing them, either.
"Seriously, Tibs? Why didn't you tell us that you got a girlfriend?" One of the boy's friends from the science club, Tim McKinley, asked him. Tim was an African American boy who wore round glasses and was in a special custom wheelchair.
"Because the two of us aren't officially dating." The blonde replied in irritation with a twitching eyebrow. "It was a friendly outing that got misinterpreted." He added.
"You sure? Cuz she seemed pretty into you." The boy said with a grin.
"I'm sure." The hidden hybrid replied as he looked away with a faint blush on his cheeks. This incessant teasing continued the entire day from pretty much everyone except Jack and Sierra until the group left to go to the base.
"Are you feeling well, Tiberius? You seem rather agitated." Optimus asked as the boy climbed in.
"Let's just say I had to put up with people teasing me and Miko all day and leave it at that." The Bioformer bit out as he buckled up.
"Very well." The Prime replied as the gang set off for the base. When they arrived, Optimus decided to make the humans and one hybrid aware of some new information. "Children, there is something you need to be made aware of." He began, drawing their attention.
"That being…?" Tiberius asked, right before he noticed two new people in the base talking to Ratchet, his parents. "Oh shit…"
"What?" Jack asked.
"My parents are here." The Bioformer replied, causing the teens and one child to follow his gaze and take notice of them.
"... Oh." Was all Sierra uttered, her eyes wide. They then walked towards them and the lone human adults in the room looked down at them.
"Let's put a pin in that conversation for now, Ratchet. I'm very interested in learning further about the evolutionary patterns of Cybertronian life." Mathias said to the medic.
"And I'd love to share my knowledge of human biology and genetics to help you better learn how to treat humans if needed." Serena added.
"I look forward to continuing those discussions." Ratchet nodded, needless to say he found having a pair of fellow intellectuals to talk to being a good change of pace. The two parents walked to the group of children before they focused on their son.
"... When did you two find out?" Tiberius asked, unable to come up with anything else to say in this situation.
"We saw Optimus as we were heading out of town. We knew you were in Vegas with your girlfriend over there, so we got suspicious and followed him." Serena replied as she gestured to Miko, who blushed at her words.
Tiberius just nearly busted a gasket. "She's not my girlfriend!" He nearly yelled in embarrassment.
"That's what they all say before it's official." Mathias said knowingly. This made the two in question blush like mad at the situation they were in. However, this was interrupted by an incoming call from Fowler.
"Prime? PRIME!" The agent yelled as his contact image appeared on the screen.
"We read you, Fowler. What's the situation?" The Autobot leader responded.
"What do you think? Cons. I managed to chase them off some heavy ordinance, but not before they shot me out of the sky." The man said.
"What were you transporting?" Tiberius asked. This made Fowler notice that the entire Darwin family was present.
"Okay, who are the new faces?" He questioned with a sigh.
"My parents. Now, what were you transporting?" The hybrid replied before repeating his question.
"I was trying to transport the DINGUS." Fowler explained.
"The what?" Miko asked, confused by the name.
"Dynamic Nuclear Generation System, aka DINGUS. It's an experimental power source that needs to be brought up-state for testing. And the cons are after it." The man explained.
"Impossible. What would Starscream want with such primitive technology?" Ratchet questioned.
"Uh, maybe a primitive weapon of mass destruction?" Miko said in a deadpan tone.
"Exactly. If the core of the DINGUS melts down, it'll release enough radiation to contaminate this state and the four next door." Fowler nodded.
"Um, did he mention what state he's in?" Raf asked nervously, hiding behind Sierra and Serena.
"No he did not." The Bioformer replied, a small bead of sweat running down the side of his head.
"So what I'm thinking is that you fire up your ground bridge and transport it there directly." Fowler stated, however Optimus shook his head.
"That is ill advised. If something were to go wrong with it inside the vortex, then the radiation would be released and contaminate all fifty states and beyond." He replied, getting a few gulps in response.
"Uh, let's not do that." The cheer captain said nervously, getting a few nods of agreement.
"Well, got any other ideas in mind?" The man asked.
(Later)
The DINGUS was now loaded into Optimus's trailer. Bulkhead and Bumblebee would act as escorts with Arcie hiding in the trailer just in case someone attacked them while Creator provided air support and surveillance from above just below the stratosphere to avoid detection via radar.
With that, Fowler climbed in with Optimus and was about to take the wheel. "That won't be necessary, Agent Fowler. I'll be taking care of the driving." The Autobot told him. The man just sighed in response and folded his arms.
"This is going to be a long trip." He sighed.
"At least you don't have to travel barely below the stratosphere! Seriously, I'm freezing my nuts and bolts off up here!" Creator snapped as he hovered at said position as the others started driving.
As they traveled, the government agent grew agitated when they came across a slow moving truck (a rather rundown looking 50s era ford model pickup) and started honking Optimus' horn.
"Come on! Move it gramps!" He yelled as the truck got out of the way.
"Agent Fowler, is that really necessary?" Optimus asked.
"Yeah, road rage much?" Creator chimed in.
"Aw don't tell me you're one of those textbook drivers." Fowler huffed. A little later, a helicopter coated in green paint and some cars with the same shade suddenly appeared. Fowler took notice of this and alerted them. "Those are the cons that shot me out of the sky!" He exclaimed.
"Are you sure? I can see them, but my sensors aren't picking up any Energon coming from them. Optimus?" Creator queried.
"Neither am I, Creator." The Prime said before one of the cars pulled up beside them and a person popped their head out from a sunroof.
"Pull over!" He yelled, holding up a gun.
"Well I'll be dipped!" Fowler gasped in surprise.
"Autobots, our assailants are human!" Optimus exclaimed over the comms.
"Yeah, I noticed!" Bulkhead exclaimed as he was boxed by three cars.
"Alright guys, I think I better go in and try out my new upgrade." Creator said as he swooped down from the sky and dropped behind the helicopter that was tailing the Autobots. The people who were flying said craft were quick to take notice.
"What the-?! Where'd that thing come from?!" The pilot exclaimed in surprise.
"And now, for my first trick: A tractor beam!" The Bioformer said as the nose of his jet form opened and a gold beam shot at the helicopter and hit it, and then started reeling it in like a fish on a line.
"What's going on?!" One of the passengers questioned in alarm as the aircraft shook.
"It's that damn jet! It's using something to pull us toward it!" The pilot exclaimed in reply.
"Ha ha! Suck on that, ya cocksuckers!" The grandson of Primus laughed as he hacked the radios of the aircraft.
"Who the hell are you?!" A caucasian skinned man with scars on his face in the co-pilot seat growled.
"That's for me to know and for you to not know. Now prepare to crash, bitches!" The hybrid cackled as he did a barrel roll and sent the helicopter into a tailspin before he started shooting his new special heat seeking nano missiles at the cars which caused two of the six to crash, giving the Autobots the opportunity to crash two more before Arcie came out of the trailer to crash another one.
"Optimus, you're about to reach the rendezvous point. And Creator, keep an eye on your radar, I don't think your assailant is done yet." Ratchet told the group.
"I'm well aware of that." The Bioformer nodded as he suddenly heard someone click onto his radio. "Alright, who's the wise guy who hijacked my radio?" He questioned.
"My name is Silas. You certainly have quite the skill of flying despite being so young." The voice from before spoke.
"Whoever said I was young?" Asked the Autobot.
"I know the voice of a greenhorn when I hear it." Silas stated.
"Which means you're an experienced veteran." Creator deduced.
"That I am. I lead the organization known as MECH. War is brewing in the horizon between the new world order, and the newest. We intend to be on the winning side." Silas declared.
"Ya know, Si, you remind me of a guy who said something similar to that. His name was Megatron, a real megalomaniac." Creator said as he flew above Optimus. "And ya wanna know what happened to him? He got himself killed by his own hubris."
"Then I'll do my best to not end up like him." The man rebuked.
"That's what they all say." The Bioformer said before switching to talking to Optimus and Fowler. "I don't like this guy Optimus, he gives me some serious Megatron vibes."
"I concur." The semi truck transformer replied in agreement.
"Humans and Cybertronians are so alike, it's almost scary." The Bioformer sighed.
As they reached the rendezvous point, everyone veered off into a train tunnel to meet up with the transport and to make sure they weren't followed, Creator shot some of his missiles at the top of the tunnel and made it collapse before flying ahead.
"And now to go into phase t-oh come on!" The golden jet groaned as he dodged a squadron of seekers that flew right at him and nearly crashed into a mountainside that happened to be in the direction he was dodging.
"Creator, status!" Optimus requested.
"I've got a squadron of seekers attacking me! Ugh, this is annoying!" The Bioformer replied in obvious annoyance. That was when a very familiar looking predator drone nearly t-boned him. "Shit! Now Soundwave's joined the party! When'd he get here?!" He squawked.
"Creator, if Soundwave is here personally, then it is a bad sign. Do whatever you can to escape, now!" Optimus ordered.
"On it-Whoa!" The Bioformer said before he was suddenly grabbed by the wings by the Con's tentacle claws and tried to struggle free as static suddenly came onto his com and Soundwave started replaying Optimus's warning in a bit of a remix before…
"Soundwave superior, Creator inferior." The Con said as he sent an electric shock through the bot and hurled him into the mountain side below. The hybrid grunted on impact as he was forced back into robot form and fell to the ground.
"Damn, that smarts." He hissed before he blinked. "Wait… Did Soundwave just talk? He never talks." He said before he tried to transform but found that he couldn't. "Scrap, he shorted out my T-Cog… guess I'm walking." He growled as he started limping towards the rendezvous point.
(Elsewhere)
Back at the base Mathias and Serena were understandably worried about their son. "Ratchet, who was that?" The man asked.
"That was Soundwave, one of the most dangerous Decepticons we've ever encountered." The medic explained with a frown.
"Will Tiberius be alright?" Serena asked in concern.
"Yes. A shorted out T-Cog is a problem that's easily fixed." He replied with a nod.
"Poor Tibs. I hope he'll make it out okay." Sierra said in concern. This got a nod from the other three.
Back with the Autobots, they now were forced to drop their cover as Soundwave and the seekers transformed and landed in front of them. Tiberius was able to get there as well, but his progress had been slowed due to the hit to his leg.
"You're gonna regret that, Soundwave." Creator growled as he deployed his missile launchers and pulled his finger back, sending six nano missiles at the silent Decepticon. Said target whirled around at the sound of missiles being fired, and was greeted by six of said missiles sending him flying into a wall, knocking him unconscious.
The Bioformer slowly stumbled after using up that much energy after a crash landing and fell to his hands and knees before he reverted back into his human form and fell unconscious on his face. This however unfortunately didn't go unnoticed by Silas, who had been watching the Bots and Cons fight.
'Well well well, would you look at that.' He thought as he looked at the hybrid with intrigue. However, first he had to catch the DINGUS.
"Prime! Silas has wised up to phase two! And it looks like our flyboy is out of commission right now!" Fowler told Optimus after having just talked to Silas a few seconds before Tiberius arrived and after the Cons blew up Optimus's trailer.
Before Optimus could say anything, a seeker suddenly whacked him in the head with a tree trunk and aren't him off a cliff. He tried to stay conscious, but the force of the fall won out and he lost consciousness.
Back at the base, the others had just gotten wind of the situation. "What do we do now?" Jack questioned.
"Why don't we just bridge onto the train and run some human on human interference?" Miko suggested. This was answered by a groan being heard on the other end before someone spoke up.
"Are you crazy, Miko? No way am I letting you do something that stupidly dangerous." Tiberius groaned in pain. "Oh, my internal organs…"
"Want us to bridge you back to base so you can recover?" Raf offered.
"If you wouldn't mind, I won't be any help in my current state." The boy nodded as Ratchet bridged him back and he limped his way into the base, immediately falling forward into the helpful arms of his mother and Miko.
"Part of me finds it hard to believe you've been doing this stuff behind the backs of your own parents." Serena sighed as she and Miko carried him to a medical bed.
"Heh, this is nothing. You should see the other guy, besides it only hurts when I-breathe-ohhhh…" The boy groaned as he felt his bruised ribs ache.
"Okay, tough guy, into bed you go." The Japanese girl sighed as she and the Darwin matriarch helped him into the medical bed.
"Ah, lying on this feels nice…" He sighed in content. Ratchet meanwhile started scanning him to make an assessment of the damage while Raf tried to lock onto the train.
"The damage you sustained from the crash is minimal but nonetheless decent, so you'll need treatment." He said before turning to Jack and Miko. "As for you, you want to be ground-bridged into a moving target moving at ninety miles an hour? I can't even count the ways that could go wrong. Mass displacement trauma, twisted limbs, metal burn!" He listed as he started trying to assist Serena in giving Tiberius first aid. At the last one, he got some odd looks. "... Well, maybe not the last one, but still!" He amended.
"Yeah, what are you trying to do? Intentionally get yourself into heaven?" Tiberius asked before yelping as Serena tightened the bandages around his ribs.
"Well we gotta do something!" Miko retorted.
"Would it help if we had the train's coordinates?" Raf asked as he pulled them up.
"And a map of possible routes to help avoid MECH?" Sierra added as she got a map on her laptop.
"Both of those will be helpful." Mathias nodded. This seemed to get a skeptical look from Ratchet but they had no other option unfortunately. So he fired up the ground bridge and both Jack and Miko went on the train.
Tiberius groaned as he sat back as he finished getting patched up and Serena started stroking his hair.
"They'll be fine." She told him.
"Doesn't mean they won't get hurt any less if things go south, but thanks." The boy sighed as he instinctively leaned into his mother's touch.
(Elsewhere)
Back with the Bots, they managed to beat the Seekers, and Soundwave was already fleeing, however unfortunately despite Sierra and Raf's best efforts MECH was about to steal the DINGUS and they had no idea what they'd do to Miko and Jack to get past them.
Meanwhile, Optimus finally came to and saw the train before he got up and took off after it. This of course was enough to make Silas think that grabbing the DINGUS and have a giant robot on them was a bad idea so they decided to ditch it.
"Never let the enemy have the spoils." Silas said as he shot a rocket at the tracks and destroyed them. Jack and Miko noticed this and called it in.
"Guys, they just destroyed the tracks!" Jack said into his comm. This of course caused Tiberius to shoot up.
"WHAT?! Ohhh… *cough cough cough*" He yelled before he started coughing and groaning in pain.
"Don't do any actions like that, young man!" The black haired woman scolded. Tiberius glared at her angrily.
"My friends are probably about to die and you're worried about that? Seriously?!" The boy snapped.
Though luckily for both teens on the train, Optimus was on the scene quickly and just as quickly grabbed the train by the engine and started manhandling it to a halt, with a couple inches to spare.
"Phew…" The two sighed as they were finally able to relax, and up in the air Silas saw what Optimus was capable of and was impressed.
"Well played, visitor." He mused as he scanned the Prime and recorded the data. "But we still have the home field advantage. We'll find a way to level that playing field in due time." He declared before flying away.
(Later)
After the whole thing with MECH, the Decepticons and the DINGUS, Tiberius was just glad to finally be able to lay down in his bed and let his injuries continue to recover.
Though before he could go to bed, he got a message from Miko. "Hey, so there's a new movie coming out this weekend. You wanna go with?" The message read. The boy smirked before he sent a reply.
"If my injuries are well enough by then, sure. What's the movie called?" He replied.
"Well, there's RED, A-Team and The Spy Next Door. Those are the ones I thought were worth seeing." The girl sent back.. The Bioformer thought for a moment before sending back his decision.
"Let's settle for A-Team." He replied.
"Sounds great, should me and Bulk pick you up at around say, seven on Saturday?" Miko asked.
