Chapter 1 The Best Christmas Gifts
Christmas Day, 1990 was very emotional for the Sonoyama family.
After breakfast, they all sat down, and Migi and Dali told the old couple the whole truth about their past and why they came to Origon Village. They also profusely apologized for having taken advantage and using them.
"You two have nothing to be sorry about", Osamu reassured them. "We completely understand why you did that."
"Right", Yōko agreed. "Besides, because you used us, we were blessed with not one, but two wonderful sons!"
Upon hearing these words, the tears Dali was crying at breakfast began flowing once more.
"Look who's the crybaby now", Migi teased him, with tears forming in his own eyes.
Before long, the pair of twins had burst into sobs, and the old couple held them in a comforting embrace.
...
As nighttime began to fall, Migi and Dali took a bath together as they thought back on the day.
"Today was amazing", the former said with a huge smile on his face.
"Yeah", Dali said with a small, soft smile on his face. "It almost feels too good to be true. Like it's just a dream."
After hearing this, Migi suddenly pinched Dali's arm.
"Ow", he exclaimed. "What the hell, Migi? Why did you pinch me?"
"To show you that you're not dreaming", Migi replied happily, before grabbing onto his brother's arms. "Dali, this is real!"
After hearing this, a look of realization came to Dali's face. Then, tears started falling from his eyes once more.
"Who knew you were such a crybaby, Dali", Migi teased him.
Then, he was suddenly squirted with water when Dali squeezed their rubber duck.
"Hey", Migi exclaimed. "What was that?"
"It's a trick the old man taught me", Dali revealed.
"Oh really? Well, two can play at that game. Take this!"
After saying this, Migi splashed Dali, and the two got into a splash fight.
...
After their bath, the twins returned to their room, where they found a pair of formal outfits waiting for them.
They nearly finished dressing, before each picking up one specific part of their outfit.
"Dali, what's this", Migi asked.
"I've seen the adult men wear it", Dali revealed. "I think it's called a 'bow-tie?'"
"How do you put it on", Migi asked.
Then, there was a knock on the door. On reflex, Dali was about to run into the closet, before remembering that he no longer had to do that.
"Migi, Dali, can I come in", Osamu asked from the other said of the door.
"Come in", Migi replied.
Then, Osamu opened the door.
"The photographer is here, so I wanted to see if you two were ready", he asked.
"Almost", Dali replied, before his cheeks turned slightly pink. "We're…trying to figure out to put on our bow-ties."
Hearing this made Osamu chuckle.
"I also remember not knowing how to put on a bow-tie when I first had to wear one", he revealed, before walking into the room. "Come, let me help you."
With this, Osamu began helping the twins put on their bow-ties. As he did this, a smile came to his face.
"Why are you smiling", Migi asked.
"I was remembering when my father helped me to put on a bow-tie", Osamu revealed. "Now, after waiting for so long, I finally get to do the same with my own sons."
When they heard this, the twins looked at each other in shock. Then, they both smiled.
...
Downstairs, Yōko (wearing a formal, glittery gold dress) was waiting while a photographer set up his equipment in front of the couch.
Then, Osamu and and the twins walked the room. He was wearing a silver, sparkly bow-tie, while they wore a red and a green bow-tie respectively.
When Yōko saw them, she beamed at them with pride. Meanwhile, the photographer looked at the pair of twins in shock and confusion.
"Oh my", Yōko started. "Look at my dear husband, and my wonderful boys. You all look so handsome."
Being called 'my wonderful boys' made Dali looked down with another small smile on his face. Meanwhile, Migi had a huge smile on his.
"Thank you so much, ma'am", he said happily.
"Now then", Yōko started. "Let's all go sit down for the photo! Migi, Dali, why don't you two sit in between us?"
"Sure", Migi replied excitedly.
He then grabbed Dali's hand and pulled him to the couch, with the old couple following behind them.
"Um…", the photographer started. "Pardon me, Mr and Mrs Sonoyama, but I thought you only had one son?"
"So did we", Yōko revealed. "But as it turns out, we actually have two!"
"Yes", Osamu added. "Isn't it wonderful? After being unable to have a child for so long, we have been blessed double the amount of happiness!"
Hearing this made Dali and Migi emotional once more.
"Could…could we hurry up and take the photo", Dali asked, wanting the photo to be taken before he started crying again.
The photographer was still confused, but decided not the ask any further questions.
"Oh, okay", he said, before getting into 'professional mode.' "Everyone, into positions."
With this, the Sonoyama family all looked at the camera.
"On the count of three, everyone say 'Merry Christmas'", the photographer instructed. "One, two, three…"
"Merry Christmas!"
...
After their very long day, Migi and Dali were laying in their bed in matching pajamas. However, despite everything, the two were wide awake.
"Dali, are you awake", Migi asked.
"Can't sleep either", Dali asked.
"Yeah", Migi replied. "Today was so amazing. If I go to sleep, I'm afraid I'll wake up, and it all turned out to be just a dream."
After hearing this, Dali suddenly pinched Migi's arm.
"Owie", he exclaimed. "What was that for, Dali?!"
"To show that you're not dreaming", Dali replied with a smirk on his face.
Migi pouted at him. Then, he suddenly sat up.
"Migi", Dali asked in confusion.
"I still can't sleep", he revealed, before suddenly getting out of bed. "So, I'm gonna test this out!"
With this, Migi pulled out his Christmas gift.
"The clay set the old couple gave you", Dali asked as he sat up.
"With everything that happened today, we didn't get a chance to play with our Christmas gifts", Migi pointed out.
"It's already past midnight", Dali pointed out.
"Like I said, I can't sleep", Migi pointed out.
"You have a good point", Dali stated.
Then, he got out of bed, and picked up his science kit.
"The old couple went out of their way to get these gifts", he pointed out. "Therefore, we should use them."
...
It was the next morning, and Yōko opened the door to the twins' room.
"Good morning, my dear boys", she greeted. "Breakfast is ready!"
After saying this, Yōko looked in front of her, and the sight she saw melted her heart.
"Darling", she called out. "Come quick!"
"What is it", Osamu asked as he rushed up to her.
"Look", Yōko asked as she pointed in front of her.
Osamu then looked up, and saw Migi and Dali fast asleep, with their bodies laying half out of their tent.
Osamu and Yōko smiled widely at this sight. Then, they went to the bed, covered the twins with a blanket, and put pillows under their head.
Then, they slowly lowered themselves to the floor, and Yōko kissed both of their foreheads heads.
"Sleep well, my two precious boys."
"You two were the best Christmas gifts ever."
