The day was coming to an end, with the sun sinking low on the horizon, wind slowly swaying with the flicker of the glow bugs dancing in the meadow. Among the flowers littering the meadow sat a green haired beauty, slowly weaving flowers into a ring to pass the time, and even though the air was cooling down from the lingering heat of the sun it had bathed in from the day, the Omega sat there and weaved the flowers.

He came from a line of elves that could weave the very life force of any living being into an object as a means to feel connected to a loved one when they were unable to be there to comfort them. It was an old standing tradition that when you became mated to your pair, that both of you would receive a gift weaved with each other's life force.

Izuku's gaze was set to where the sun dipped down, the mating gift from his Alpha, a furred cape that sat over his shoulders, his fingers not stopping in their motions. When he first received the furred cape, the fabric felt warm in his hands, filled with magic that flowed with the life essence of his Alpha, a way to keep his worries at bay while he was away.

It had been six months since the blond had left for war, his parting words still sitting in the Omega's chest. There was no news yet as to what had been happening on the front, the trade and messenger routes had been cut off by the war, leaving everyone in a sense of looming dread. He already knew what was happening though, thanks to the cape that he had.

"Mamma! Mamma!" Izuku looked up to see his pup running towards him, his pudgy face stained red from exertion. When the little one finally reached his dam, he promptly sat down in the grass in front of Izuku, his breath heavy as he tried to calm down.

"What is it my little bug? Is Nana looking for me?"

Once the pup had regained his breath, he spoke. "Nana said food is ready and that you need to come eat."

The Omega smiled softly. "Alright pup, let me just finish this weave and then we can go eat."

"Is it still warm Mamma?"

The question didn't startle the Omega like it did the first time after his Alpha left. The thing with mating gifts, only the one that was mated to the other could feel the magic that had been weaved into the gift, so others wouldn't be able to feel if it was warm or not.

"Yes my pup, it is still warm."

He watched as his pup's face morphed into an excited smile. "Do you think Papa will come home tomorrow? I miss him and he said he will help me build my first fort!"

The Omega listened as his son babbled on while he finished weaving the flowers. The sun had almost finished setting by the time he was done, the wind getting cooler and cooler. He needed to finish and get his pup back home before it got too cold.

"Then Nana said that when I finish my first hunt, she will make me a mighty feast and let me eat as many sweets as I want!"

"I hope Nana knows that you will be sleeping by her until you have worked the sugar through your system." He stood up and dusted himself off. "Come on my little bug, it's time to go home now, it's getting cold."

The pup stood up and bounced around his dam. "Is it still warm Mamma?"

"Yes darling, it's still warm." They started making their way back to their cottage, the pup excitedly speaking of his plan to catch the biggest beetle he could find tomorrow and show his sire when he got back home.

Once they had entered their cottage, the Omega's dam was waiting by the hearth, stirring the contents in the cauldron. "Come dish up my sweets, foods ready."

The Omega looked down to his pup. "My bug, why don't you go wash your hands and I will dish for you."

Once the pup had left to do as his dam had told, Nana had turned to him with a worried expression. "You can't keep lying to him my dear, it will only get harder as time goes on."

"I know Ma, I just don't want to break his heart." He stepped towards the hearth and made two bowls full with stew.

"It will hurt more the longer you wait."

The thing was, every time his pup asked if it was warm, he lied each time. He just couldn't bring himself to tell him that the cape had turned cold a few weeks prior, and he felt that if he told his pup the truth, then he would have to accept it. So as time went by, he kept the cold cape over his shoulders, hoping against all odds that the warmth would come back, even though he knew it never would.
