The Prologue and First Chapter

Prologue: Brother and Sister

Part 1

Spacequakes.

Terrifying natural disasters that claimed millions of human lives. The first documented spacequake was in Eurasia on a Christmas evening with a calculated death toll of nearly 200 million. That was only the beginning though. The spacequakes continued to echo all over Asia before seemingly settling in Japan.

Scientists all over the world tried to uncover what causes the disasters, but all their research has ended up with nil. So, unable to take up a preventive solution, humanity chose preventative measures to the great carnage and restorative approach to spacequakes. While their search for a cause came up empty, they learned to anticipate after constantly observing the energy that usually circulates the atmosphere before a spacequake. Now, humanity was able to react accordingly; it became a process similar to reading the currents to guess weather patterns or measuring the impact of an earthquake.

Or at least, that is what is told to the public.

The reality is that a private organization possessed the exact knowledge of what caused these spacequakes and has allied with governments all over the world in combating these spacequakes during civilian evacuations. Scientists that wished to continue researching these occurrences have either been paid off or gone missing. While there have been many whistleblowers and theorists, they have all been condemned as madmen and deranged conspiracy theorists and have disappeared one after another.

Another organization opposed the original, but they were deemed a terrorist organization and have been hunted by international agencies. This second organization wanted to stop the spacequakes too, but without the reign of terror that the former brought with it. This organization would be named 『Ratotskr』 and would fight a secret war against 『Deus Ex Machina』.

Part 2

April 1st

Itsuka Shidou had no idea what to expect when he returned home. At least, what he saw when he got home wasn't what he expected. He found his sister in a loose kimono that wrapped around her slender shoulders instead of over them. It revealed a portion of her budding breasts that he was uncomfortable with as her beloved Onii-chan. All in all, it was absolutely not what he expected to see. To top it off, literally in this case, a pair of white, oni-like horns extended from the sides of her head, decorated with black ribbons and golden flowers. Her bare legs, milky white, were bared by the short kimono, and her feet were clad in traditional sandals.

Shidou would have brushed these all off as very thorough cosplay if not for the flames licking her the edges of her kimono, the tips of her fingers, and her pink hair.

It always surprised him to see the transformation, but he recovered quickly.

"Is it that time of the year again?" Shidou asked, nonchalantly, as he laid down his bag on the sofa.

"Mmhmm," Kotori nodded her head.

Shidou sighed. "I'll cook up dinner then, please wait a minute."

"Can I help?"

Shidou's world grew gray, and he knew what was coming. Ever since that incident five years ago, he had gained a power that messed with him. It only did this though whenever Kotori's "curse" showed up.

Yes, her curse. At least once a year since that day, Kotori would look like this and start emitting flames. She'd look like an oni of fire, and her personality matured into a well-made woman. The first time her curse activated was really terrible, and she burnt much of the city until Shidou's power appeared and gave him the solution.

Was it a coincidence that both their powers appeared on the first day? Probably. Probably not. Shidou used to mull this often over and over in his head when he was younger before accepting that he wouldn't find any answers and remained thankful that he could stop her in the first place.

Shidou turned around to see his sister frozen in time. Unlike the rest of the world which was all shades of gray, Kotori would retain her color. It was… eerie to say the least. Seeing his cute little sister immobile was something Shidou had seen many times, but was still unable to get used to. Shidou's eyes scanned the rest of his surroundings, easily finding the secondary effect of his power.

Several "game menus" were floating. Calling them game menus was most accurate since there were floating buttons with words and numbers on them. Shidou saw the menu right beside Kotori and read it over.

Shidou then scanned the buttons closest to him. They were options, four of them decorated in flowers and flames, just an arm's reach away from Shidou. The font of the text differed for each option, but they all had the same pink color and outline. Shidou read them all from top to bottom.

We'll be having creampie for dessert. It takes two to make one~

Of course. Having my lovely little sister help out makes Onii-chan happy.

I got this. You can wait over there.

Sit down, have a lollipop.

As always, there were four options to choose from, time refused to even crawl as long as he didn't make a decision, and his body would be forced to follow through with whichever was chosen. The first option was horny; it always was. The second was a bit better, and the third was a rejection of their wishes. The fourth was always random. Sometimes, it would be a darkened box. Sometimes, it contained the text "Random," and sometimes, it contained something much lewder than the first option.

Shidou picked the second option, and the monochrome instantly drained from the world, returning back the beautiful vibrant colors.

"Of course," Shidou said automatically. "Having my lovely little sister help out makes Onii-chan happy," he smiled and watched as his sister flushed before giving him a confident grin.

"Heh, I will show you how much I've improved, Onii-cha~n," Kotori bragged haughtily as she entered the kitchen with Shidou. Shidou handed her a knife and some carrots and potatoes.

"Peel then dice," Shidou instructed as he pulled the pan and set it over the stoked stove. He pulled out his own knife and some onions and garlic. He set about his own orders, peeling and chopping them into small cubes. Shidou then poured a few tablespoons of oil on top of the pan and waited for the oil to heat up.

Once the oil was hot enough, Shidou threw in the ground beef. He added the onion, garlic, salt, and pepper on top of it, mixing as he did so.

"Done, Onii-chan," Kotori laid the potatoes and carrots in front of Shidou.

Shidou smiled. "Thank you Kotori," he gave her a light head pat with his clean hand and was pleased to see her smile widen. "I got this now, please set the table in ten minutes."

"Will do," Kotori said as she left Shidou's line of sight. As Shidou was mixing the beef and waiting for it to turn brown, he heard a ruffling of plastics and immediately knew what was up.

"Kotoriiiiii," he drawled.

"Eek! Uhm, yes, Onii-chan?" Kotori said in return but didn't turn to meet him.

"Turn around."

Kotori slowly turned around, and a lollipop was in her hands. Shidou crossed his arms. "What did I say about sweets before dinner?"

"Not to eat them…"

"Good, and now what will you do?"

"Put the lollipop away," Kotori sighed, thoroughly chided by her Onii-chan.

"Good, good," Shidou praised her and turned back to the stove. A small smile was on his face. Despite being a bit more mature and being inflicted by this curse, this Kotori was still his little sister that he had to look out for. Shidou mused to himself as he added the soy sauce, potatoes, and a tablespoon of sugar. It took a little while for the soy sauce to boil and for the potatoes to soften but soon enough, Shidou added the carrots and cooked it all until the last ingredient was steaming but still kept a bit of crunch.

"Could you set the table?"

"It's been done!"

"Good."

Shidou scooped the porridge up and put it in a large bowl before laying it on the table. The rice was also done, and he put a full plate of steaming white rice on the table with the beef,

"Itadakimasu!" both siblings said as they dug into their meal.

"Kotori, eat your vegetables," Shidou said when he saw her picking at her food. Said girl onlymade a face. "Kotoriii."

"Fine Onii-channnn," Kotori rolled her red eyes as she ate her carrots. "Happy?"

"Very much."

"Sometimes you nag too much. You're like a mother."

"Somebody has to be a mother to you."

"Why does my mother have to be my older brother? What did I do in my previous life to deserve this?" Kotori moaned.

"If you're going to make a 'Why did my brother give birth to me' joke, save it."

"You know that one manga where the older brother turns into a girl and—"

"No! You will not bring that up! You have to stop hanging around… what's her name again?"

Kotori stuck out her tongue, and Shidou flicked her forehead. He hid the fact that it hurt him more than it did her. Whatever that transformation did, she was probably stronger than him, but his sister never seemed to utilize her newfound strength.

"Ouchies~ Onii-chan~~!" Kotori held her forehead.

"Stop that, you big baby. That was just a love tap."

"Hmph!"

Shidou laughed at his sister's cute pouting face. Kotori joined in the laughter in a short while.

"Even in this form, you're still my cute little sister," Shidou teased.

"Sh-Shut up Onii-chan!" Kotori's face turned red, and she playfully punched him on the shoulder. Even with her heightened strength, he didn't fear her. She wouldn't hurt him… More than she normally did as a normal girl, anyway.

Kotori was always a bit violent.

"Ouchie, what was that for?"

"Shush, you big baby. That was a love tap," Kotori mocked with a smug smile.

"Touche," Shidou grinned back.

"Oh, right! Onii-chan, did you see that hurricane near Okinawa?"

"On the news? Yeah. It was crazy. Two hurricanes merging into one big one," Shidou said in between bites. "It was a good thing it didn't make landfall."

"I wonder…"

"Hm?"

"I was just wondering if there were fishermen nearby."

"I sure hope not. I didn't see anything on the internet about missing fishermen, so it should be good."

"Hey, no phones on the table," Shidou scolded when he saw Kotori reaching for her phone.

"I just wanted to see some more of it, though."

"You can do it later," Shidou chided further.

"Okay…" Kotori went quiet as she finished the food on her plate. Shidou finished eating a few minutes later.

"You done?"

"Yeah."

"I'm taking your plate then," he swiped her dish away and headed for the sink. He rinsed off the small pieces of rice and meat on the plate before putting them into the dishwasher. He went to his bag to fetch his bento. "Where's your lunchbox?"

"There," Kotori had gone to lounging on the couch and turned on the television. She lazily pointed with her foot at her bag in the corner.

"Please get it."

"I dun wanna."

Shidou rolled his eyes. While his sister was a bit more mature in this form, she was still his sister. He would have scolded her for her laziness but felt like he had given her enough "no"s for the time being. Shidou went to her bag and pulled out the bento that he had prepared earlier that morning. He opened it and was pleased to see that the food was finished. He washed both their bentos before placing them into the dishwasher.

"I will be taking a quick bath," he called out as he went up the second floor of the house.

"Alright," Kotori lazily replied. Her attention was stuck on the screen.

For all the toughness she loved to exhibit, he knew she was concerned about any potential casualties. His little sister was very caring and always wished to help.

That, and she probably held an underlying guilt for all the damage she caused all those many years ago.

Shidou dried his hair with a towel as he walked back down. He found Kotori still lazing on the couch, now watching anime on the television.

Time stopped, and the world turned gray once more.

quietly sneak behind her then ravage her

Shall we do it then?

Does it really have to be a kiss?

『████████』

Shidou picked the second option without question.

"Shall we do it then?" he asked Kotori.

"Do what?"

"The…" Shidou hesitated, "kiss."

"...yeah, we probably should," Kotori turned down the sound of the television but didn't shut it off. She got up from her position and sat up.

Shidou sat beside her. While he had been kissing her for the past years… it was still an awkward set of circumstances for him as her older brother, even if not related. His stomach felt a little queasy, but he swallowed his nervousness. This was the only way after all.

"Kotori…" he murmured, his voice barely audible over the faint sound of anime coming from the TV.

"Onii-chan…" Kotori whispered softly as she closed her eyes and tilted her head upwards. Her lips were puckered, and her mystical flames seemed to die away.

Shidou took a second to admire her pretty face, framed by her beautifully burnt but pink hair. The contrast there demanded his attention, but at their proximity, he could only stare at her face. Her pink lips complimented her pale complexion, and her eyelashes were cute and just a tad longer than usual.

Such a pretty girl… but, this was his sister.

Shidou closed his eyes and leaned forward, kissing Kotori. Their lips touched, and pleasure exploded like fireworks in Shidou. It was a guilty kind of pleasure. Shidou would admit that kissing Kotori… kissing his younger sister… aroused him. That thought alone filled him with immense shame.

But that shame was immediately crushed when Kotori moaned into their kiss.

"Onii-chan… Nnnn…" Kotori moaned into their kiss.

Before he knew it, Shidou had pushed Kotori down on the soft couch. Her body was naked, no longer hidden by the pink kimono of flames. Her face was flushed, and she hid her small breasts with her arms.

"What am I doing?" Shidou thought to himself. Blood rushed through his veins as he loomed over his sister. Kiss her again. He gave in and leaned forward, capturing Kotori's lips once more.

"Onii-chan…" Kotori's breathless voice echoed in his ears.

Shidou snapped out of his reverie and immediately took a hold of himself. He snapped back and looked down on his sister. Her face was flushed red and her breath heavy.

What has he done?

Shidou wanted to slap himself.

This happened every time. Whenever they performed this ritual to relieve Kotori of her curse, she would end up naked as the day she was born.

Shidou threw his damp towel over her as he retreated away from her. "I'll get you your towel, wait a bit."

Congratulations! The tutorial has finished.

The real game is starting now.

Shidou stared blankly at the notifications as they popped into his peripheral. He frowned and hoped it wouldn't be anything too troublesome. He shrugged it off, it might just have been his power acting up. That said, he became more weary. It might pull a fast one on him tomorrow. Shidou knew that while his power was annoying, it didn't mean anything bad for him… maybe.

Chapter 1: To Woo a Princess

Part 1

April 10th

"Onii-chan! Onii-chan! Wake up Onii-chan!"

Itsuka Shidou was woken up by his little sister dancing on top of him.

Name: Kotori Itsuka Ifrit

Heroine Summary:

Your little sister. Since she was eight, she has been "cursed" by a spirit of flames. Ever since then, you have kissed her on the lips every year to stabilize the curse. Her personality changes depending on the color of the ribbons she is wearing. She is the commander of the Fraxinus and a core member of the Ratatoskr organization.

Time stopped and Shidou groaned.

grab her and pull her to bed, stripping her as you do

grab her and smooch her

grab her and hug her

grab her and strip off only her panties

Shidou took a deep breath.

"WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU THINKING ABOUT, YOU LECHEROUS POWER!"

Shidou wasn't one to curse. But, this was a great moment for it. He sighed as he read at his choices top down, left right, right left, and finally down up. Only the third option was a viable choice, so Shidou picked it—

His finger slipped and clicked the second option.

"Shit."

The world gained its color and Shidou's body moved on its own. Shidou screamed curses in brain as he watched in first person as she grabbed Kotori by the shoulders and pulled her so that they were lying side by side on the bed.

"Onii-chan!" Kotori yelped.

Shidou silenced her by stealing her lips.

What a disaster of a morning…

"I'm sorry Kotori…" Shidou apologized for the nth time that morning.

"..." Kotori pouted as she slowly ate the steaming omurice. Her white ribbons bounced lightly with every chew, and Shidou was nearly distracted by how cute it made her look.

Shidou thought long and hard. "Fine, let's have dinner at the Pizza place you like so much."

"Really?"

"Of course," Shidou smiled, seeing Kotori's eyes brighten up.

"Yay~! I love you, Onii-chan!" Kotori jumped and gave Shidou a hug. "It's a promise? You have to promise me, alright?"

"I promise," Shidou patted her head.

"Even in the event of a spacequake?"

Shidou rolled his eyes. "Yes, yes. Even if there is a spacequake."

"Yay~"

"Now finish your food, so you can go to school," Shidou said. "I've put your lunchbox in your bag already."

"Will do~" Kotori sang as she quickly finished her meal. She happily skipped over to her shoes and put them on. "Bye bye! Onii-chan! Don't forget your promise later!"

"I won't," Shidou said. He spied some packaged sweets on the table. "Hey, Kotori! You forgot your candies!" he swiftly swiped them and ran outside but saw no sign of his sister left or right. He pocketed them, intending on dropping by and returning them later on…

Part 2

The tenth of April, a Thursday, Shidou had relaxed. Besides acting up more often than usual, his power didn't do much other than pester him. That said, he could now see the information on more girls.

"Shidou," a monotone voice called out to him. Shidou turned his head to see a girl with hair as white as snow. Shidou immediately recognized her as the girl with no sense of personal space, a face and voice with fewer emotions than a doll, and a mind so perverted that the power was actually scared of her.

Speak of the devil and she shall appear. Origami was the only other girl on whom the power worked on. It wasn't like this before. There wasn't an information menu when he looked at her before.

Name: Origami Tobiichi

Heroine Summary: A classmate that has had an obsession with you since you knew her. Her parents died in the fire five years ago, when you saved her from that blaze five years ago, and she stuck by you since. Under her emotionless gaze, lies a mind so perverted that even I am scared. She also works for the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force [JGSDF]'s Anti-Spirit Team [AST]. Her current goals are to kill the spirits, regardless of whether they cause spacequakes or not.

Relationship Level: 1 A Weird Classmate

Affection Points: 30/100

Origami scared even Shidou's power. He nearly snorted in amusement. But his amusement was broken by the latter half of her summary. He understood half of that but the rest left him confused. What was the AST? Shidou knew about the JGSDF, but the AST was alien to him. They might have some connection to the spacequakes though, but Shidou knew nothing about those things other than they were a wildly destructive phenomenon.

"Good afternoon, Origami. Do you need anything?"

"Yes, please accept this," she handed Shidou an envelope before leaving for her seat.

Shidou felt like he should be expecting something… x-rated as he checked the envelope. He glanced inside and immediately slammed it shut. His cheeks burned beet red. It was but a glance, but Shidou saw it all. Technically almost all of her, since Origami was wearing a micro bikini in the pictures… but it was nearly everything! Only her sacred place and her nipples were safe from his view.

Even then, his mind supplied the peaks of pink just at the edges…

"Like what you see?" Origami asked, suddenly appearing behind Shidou. Her voice was monotone, but Shidou could detect the slightest sense of teasing.

"F-For the last time Origami, you can't just give me these things!"

"...so you like them that much huh," Origami whispered to herself.

"No!"

"I'll try in a naked apron next time."

"Again, stop it."

"So you want videos?"

The school bell rang and Origami ran to her seat. It was the final class for the afternoon. And despite her debauchery, the girl preferred upholding her image as a perfect student.

Shidou sighed to himself. This girl… honestly was too transparent!

The teacher came in, the cute Okamine Tamae-chan, who was affectionately labeled "Tama-chan" by the whole class. She was a rather small woman (but don't call her small, call her "cute") and looked like she was a high schooler despite being in her late twenties. Shidou gave a sigh of relief when he didn't see the information menu beside her.

The entire class rose to greet her.

Stand. Bow. Sit.

Just as Shidou took his seat for the final class of the day, a terrifying sound echoed all over the city. It was like the screaming of a tornado siren but much louder and much more damning: a spacequake alarm.

First Chapter: Princess

Difficulty level: C (Chances of dying is 20%)

Several notifications popped up at the edge of his vision. This was the first time a scenario such as this happened. Was this the "real game" that the power was talking about days ago? That did not bode well with Shidou, not at all. He repressed the urge to fidget, to bite his thumb.

"Everyone! Please exit the school in an orderly manner, and head to the shelter! Remember, no running, but please do not dawdle either!" the teacher immediately commanded the students. The students, having been drilled about spacequakes since childhood, filed out quickly but lazily. Nobody had died once they understood how to check for spacequakes, so the teenagers didn't need to rush.

"Man, what a bust…"
"Nice. That means no school for later!"
"I hope my brother made it home."

A chorus of conversation flooded the school without a hint of mad panic. Some even joked about staying outside to look at the spacequake for themselves. Though, no one would try and risk becoming the first person to break the deathless record.

Shidou had joined the throng of students, lining up to leave the building. As he turned the corner, his eyes caught a glimpse of white hair. Knowing only one person had hair like that, Shidou quietly extracted himself from the group, chasing after her.

"What is she doing?" he whispered to himself as he ran through the hallways. "Origami!" he called out, chasing after the girl. He rounded the corner but saw nothing. Not a single sign of the girl either.

Shidou was left alone in the hallways, even as the sirens sounded noisily. He slowly walked to his classroom and opened the door silently. He looked left, he looked right. Still no sign of Origami. Shidou closed the door as he left the classroom. "Where did she go?" he asked no one as he started walking back to catch up to his class.

There was no sign of life in the school, making it eerie. Shidou was so used to the hustle and bustle of the students chatting and teachers that seeing the hallways so… so lifeless gave his stomach a weird feeling. His footsteps and only his footsteps were the sounds that echoed throughout the long hallways.

Shidou sped up his pace and his heartbeat echoed in his ears. A chill shot up his spine and a cold sweat drenched his inner shirt. He remembered something. Someone. "Kotori," he whispered to himself and pulled out his phone to check on her. It had no battery. "Shit," he cursed.

Calm down, he told himself. Middle schoolers were dismissed much earlier than high schoolers. Kotori is at home, safe, probably watching anime or those idol movies. If the spacequake warning reached their house, he was sure she would evacuate into the lower floor of the house where there was a safe room, secured against spacequakes.

Shidou heard a classroom door open, and he felt his anxiety spike, hoping it was his friend. "Origami—"

BOOM!

The building split wide. Dust and debris flew in the air. Steel bent like plastic straws, cement crumbled like sand, and wood shattered like glass.

Shidou coughed, harshly and rapidly. It only got harder as a sinking feeling accompanied the searing pain blossoming within him. It was a struggle to even rise to his feet. Everything hurt. It hurt so much. He was sure a broken steel pipe had entered his guts, and glass into his skin.

"Origami!" Shidou waved the dust away from his eyes. His jaw slackened when he saw the floor. Or what was left of it. His feet were close to the jagged edge of what should have been the hallway, but was now an empty space. A step forward, and he would have fallen at least a dozen stories. What would have happened if he was just a few more meters closer to the epicenter of the spacequake?

He was lucky. Incredibly lucky.

Or not…

Shidou felt the stone slab he was standing on shutter. He jumped. Or… He thought he jumped. His legs were still frozen in fear and shock. Shidou screamed as he fell down, down, down…

Which was useless as he heard the grotesque sounds of his flesh tearing, bones cracking, and the surrounding environment collapse inwards after him. His body should have been like a splattered tomato in a Spanish festival. But it wasn't. He wasn't. Instead, Shidou was little more recognizable than roadkill.

The pain grew to staggering magnitudes as he continued to lie there, a mangled mess. He wasn't even sure if he was breathing. He couldn't feel his lungs inflate as a strange numbness overtook him. It seemed to take away his nightmarish pain.

Soon, the tingling numbness vibrated into a soothing warmth. It washed away all his mental anguish. It was enough that his eyes that were once squeezed shut in fear, panic, and pain gingerly opened slowly.

The first thing he noticed was an aura of fire surrounding his body, but it didn't burn. There was a heat, but it was comforting. It didn't scare him in the slightest, despite his logical side urging him otherwise. If anything, it was faintly familiar.

But, he couldn't focus on that.

"A… Ah… Ack…" Shidou grunted, feeling blood drain from him as he tried his best to stand. His twisted ankle mended itself, his broken arm cracked itself back into position, and all his wounds were, for the lack of a better word, melted away.

Except one.

He was still blind in one eye, he finally noticed.

"Erk… Uck… AHHHH!" Shidou screamed as he pulled out a long shaft of wood from his left eye. He threw the offending piece of construction material away as he clawed at the ground, nursing his eye in pain. "Haaa… Haaaa…" Shidou whimpered as he got back up to his feet.

Both eyes blinked the tears away as he scanned his surroundings. His legs wobbled once before giving out, losing all their strength. It left Shidou on his bloodied knees.

The sight of the destruction was… scary. Terrifying. Harrowing. All that was left of this half of the school was a pile of stones and steel. The walls that he was confident could protect him from almost anything were now no better off than abandon ruins. Steel turned into something akin to sparkling metal spaghetti, exposed to the elements. The trees and grass that were once a vibrant so green were just gone..

His peaceful school was just gone.

Shidou continued looking around, and his breath hitched suddenly. Not because of the ruins of the school. No. It was because he found someone. A beauty like never before, among the worst of the carnage but wholly untouched.

Her long hair was like the purple night sky, cascading from a large hairpiece that matched her outfit. The "clothes" she wore was something like Shidou had never seen before; a royal set of purple armor rimmed with gold attached to her shoulders and hips, a long, twin-layered frilly skirt of pure white but dusted with pink, and a violet corset which revealed her cleavage and sides. But what struck Shidou the most was her eyes. Dark, cold eyes of purple that matched her hair, but all the same, there was an unmistakable sense of sadness gleaming from underneath the facade of ice.

Shidou decided that no girl as beautiful as her should have eyes as cold as the ones she had. Without thinking, Shidou stood and slowly hobbled towards the girl. The girl took notice of him and reached for her throne, of which he hadn't realized was even there. It was a floating chair of gold, and it was there, she pulled at the top. The throne acted as a sheath too, apparently, as the girl hefted a sword larger than her and pointed it at Shidou with a single hand.

"Wait!"

Shidou dodged a strike from the girl, suddenly feeling very lucky as the ground was split cleanly where the sword landed.

"Hm? Why should I? Are you not here to kill me?" she asked, her voice as cold as her eyes.

The world turned a hundred shades of gray.

"Here we go again…" Shidou sighed to himself. Despite all the insanity going on, of course, his power was the thing to return first.

Because I can let you handle my sword.

Shidou wanted to kill whoever was in charge of this thing. Here he was in a life and death situation and the first thing he sees as an option is a bad joke? Power, please, know the time and place for a lewd joke. MAYBE, it did want him to die or something.

Why would I want to kill a girl as beautiful as you?

I just want to know your name.

Parry this you filthy casual. CAMAEL!

Alright. Shidou should never pick the first or the last option in this scenario. That left the second and third options.

Shidou picked the second option and watched as the world slowly gained back its color. His body was seized by an invisible force and he raised his arms, showing that he was unarmed. "I just want to know your name!" he shouted.

"My name?" the girl tilted her head. "What is a 'name'?"

Was… Was this girl serious? Shidou felt a bead of sweat on his forehead. How could anybody not have a name?

"A name is what people call you."

"What is your name?" the girl asked in return.

"My name is Shidou. Itsuka Shidou."

"shi…dou. Itsuka shidou," the girl rolled his name in her mouth.

"Uhh, yes. But, you can just call me Shidou."

"shidou."

She had a funny way of saying it. Shidou wanted to correct her but found the way she rolled around the "s" in his name to be rather cute, so he refrained.

"I do not have a name, shidou," the girl said. "Maybe if you do not try to kill me, you can give me a name."

That… That was a wildly naive way of looking at it. Shidou felt his heart both melt and break slightly. She was both trusting him with something so important, but almost in the same measure, so wary from past attempts on her life? His not-death earlier made him never wish such pain onto anyone else.

Nevermind someone as enchanting and naive as her.

Even if she had attacked him with an oversized broadsword

"I don't want to kill you. I will not kill you, I promise."

"We will see about that," the girl said, still suspicious of Shidou.

"Do you want to talk some more?"

"I suppose so, since we are here."

Shidou sat on a nearby rock that was high enough to function as a chair. The golden chair/sheath combo device floated closer to where they talked. It landed on the ground and the girl promptly sat. Their line of sight was direct, equal, without Shidou having to look up nor down to stare straight into her cold indigo eyes.

"Why do you think I was going to kill you?" Shidou asked, but felt like he knew the answer to that.

"It has always been this way. I appear in this world, and people try to kill me. So, I fight them."

Shidou's fears were confirmed. This girl was the cause of the spacequakes and an organization… presumably, the government… was trying to kill this girl and stop the spacequakes.

Shidou blinked and saw the boxes beside the girl update.

Relationship points: 10/100

Shidou felt a bead of sweat on his forehead. For once, he was grateful to his powers. He knew that the girl was no longer hostile towards him and was willing to talk. While she had said so, Shidou was still doubtful about that, seeing as she was able to split the ground in half with frightening ease.

Understandable, really.

"I'm curious, what's that in your stomach?" the girl asked, pointing at Shidou's belly.

Shidou looked down and his eyes widened. The metal pipe that penetrated him earlier was still stuck. And now that he took notice of it, the pain returned.

"Crap," Shidou cursed as he tugged at the metal.

"I don't think that's—"

"AHH!" he screamed and threw the bloody pipe away. Fire appeared around the wound and closed it, sealing the flesh and skin until not even a scar appeared. He huffed. Red blood on his skin and clothes remained, the only sign that there was a wound in the first place.

The girl watched the fire in fascination. She stared intently at Shidou's stomach for a few seconds more, before asking, "Are you like me?"

Shidou gave the girl a look and wanted to refute. His mouth opened and closed as thoughts swirled in his head. "I guess, I would have to be, huh?"

The girl hummed, seemingly content with his answer.

Shidou, now able to feel his torso without the numbing sense of invisible pain, felt something in his jacket pocket. Perhaps she liked sweets? Most girls did, anyway… "Would you want some candy?"

"Candy?" her head tilted slightly. "What is that?"

If Kotori was here, she would pull out the history of candy and how it was made. Shidou cracked a small smile as his memories played that very scene. He then pulled out Kotori's favorite lollipop from his pocket. "This is a piece of candy." He offered it to the nameless girl, who took it into both hands, gingerly and sparkling eyes, "You can eat it," And just in case, he pointed into his mouth.

Shidou feared that she might suspect it of being poisoned, but she did no such thing. What the girl did instead was put the lollipop in her mouth… with the plastic packaging still over it. Shidou snorted then laughed.

He knew he forgot something!

"What's so funny?" the purple girl asked, looking slightly offended.

"I'm sorry– it's just," Shidou tried to stop himself from laughing any more. "You have to remove the plastic first."

The girl removed the candy from her mouth and inspected it. "Please show me what you mean," she offered the lollipop back, slathered in saliva.

Shidou gave her a wry smile but took it anyway. He wrapped it for her, revealing the pink candy on the stick, before giving it back to the nameless girl. The girl took it back from him and marveled at how different the candy looked before popping it into her mouth. Her eyes widened!

"This is so good!" she exclaimed with a full mouth. "Ne, shidou, you should try it!" she offered the lollipop back to Shidou.

Shidou's smile twitched. "N-Nah, I'm good. I still have a lot more," he claimed. "Thank you though. It's all yours," he gave her a knowing look.

The girl's eyes were like his little sister's as she suckled the candy. "I have some more if you want," Shidou offered the girl some more candy from his pocket. The girl reached forward for them.

—Only to shove Shidou away with one hand as she swung her massive sword with her other. Explosions wracked the area as Shidou tumbled backwards before landing flat on his back. "Hey!" he shouted, worried for the girl's safety. "Are you okay?"

The dust cleared with another swing of the girl's glowing sword, showing that she was unfazed and unharmed by the explosions. Her rapt attention was no longer on Shidou, and it seemed like she hadn't heard his question.

Instead, she narrowed her eyes into the distance.

Shidou followed her line of sight to several silhouettes in the horizon, flying at the girl at impossible speeds. The girl raised her sword, ready for combat. The silhouettes veered to the side, keeping themselves at range. Their weaponry had the range advantage, while the nameless girl only had a melee weapon. Shidou squinted and saw that the silhouettes were also girls. More specifically, women in suits that one would expect from mecha anime that were required to enter said mechs.

Shidou watched the battle raged. The swarm of women sent a barrage of missiles and bullets at the nameless one. At first, the girl only defended; slashing the missiles, dodging the bullets, and weaving around the battlefield. However, the women looked like they knew what they were doing though and maneuvered, keeping their space. They refused to approach and seemed to pay no mind to his presence.

It wasn't much longer until the nameless girl stopped in her tracks. She seemed quite tired of this cat and mouse game. She hefted her sword in the air and quickly slashed downwards, creating a blades of wind that flew towards the women attacking her.

"DODGE!" the commander of the group screamed as the women broke formation. This allowed the nameless Princess to leap in front of them, engaging them in the melee. The closest girl fought pulled out her own sword, although much slimmer in girth, shorter in length, and seemingly much less spry as it flagged.

The girl was unable to handle the nameless girl's strike and rocketed towards the ground, where the nameless girl followed.

Shidou's eyes widened.

"Is that Origami?"

There was no mistaking it. That was indeed the girl that always greeted Shidou in the mornings, but was now fighting the nameless girl.

Origami and the nameless one dueled. The girl had the upper hand, but Origami was able to hold her ground with pure dexterity and sheer skill. The comrades of Origami stopped firing their barrage, not wanting to hurt their ally. A few of them flew close to the melee, discarding their range advantage, joining the brawl one after another to spot each other's weak points.

Despite it being one versus many, the nameless girl still had the upper hand. Her battle instincts were better than all the women combined, ramping up her own speed accordingly. Still bored, she forced every altercation to be with one opponent, forcing the comrades of Origami to stumble into each other, unable to flank or encircle her. In her freedom of flight, without the need of jet propulsion like her opposition and not beholden by the rules of gravity, the purple-armored girl was an angel of war. Unfazed by any tactics, she forced her way through anything thrown at her.

The swarm of women paused and nodded at one another before rushing forward in a full offensive maneuver. With yet another flick of her mountainous greatsword, the bored purple-hair girl sent them back reeling.

And as the recovered, a small lull took over the battlefield. In doing so, Shidou finally got a better look at them. The opposite was true as well since one of them found him.

Origami and Shidou's eyes met, and her eyes widened in recognition. She seemed to have said something and her face twisted with such uncharacteristic anger, but Shidou was too far to hear, much less clear up the situation. She near instantly pulled something out of the machine she was using and threw it at the nameless girl.

Protect Her Smile activated

There was a huge explosion. And with it, his vision went black as his body flew back.

Part 3

Shidou woke up in what looked like an infirmary. There was the cliche, rhythmic beeping of the monitors, the pungent smell of disinfectant, and the curtains all around to give semblance of privacy. Shidou grunted as he slowly got up to his feet. He wasn't in a patient's garb like he expected but still in his dirty student uniform. He took quiet steps towards the curtain and pulled it slightly to the side.

"So you're finally awake," a tired looking woman in a scientist's garb greeted him. She looked every bit of what Shidou imagined of a scientist: tired eyes, white lab coat, and a "I'm gonna die from overwork" expression. A cute stuffed bear that looked handmade hung from the edge of her coat pocket and her hair was tied up in a messy side bun.

Name: Reine Murasame Phantom

Heroine Summary: Mommy.

Shidou rubbed his eyes and blinked.

He might have been imagining things.

Heroine Summary: A woman in her late twenties. She hasn't slept for 30 years. She looks permanently sleepy but does her job as the Head Analyst for the Fraxinus rather well. She has been going around distributing Sephira Crystals for the past years, purifying them, for the sake of the revival of Shinji Takamiya. She is the second half of Mio Takamiya.

Relationship Level: 2 My Love, My Dearest

Affection Points: 50/100

…what a weird summary. Shidou only understood the first half. The rest turned into gibberish. Sephira Crystals? Shinji Takamiya? Mio Takamiya? All those words seemed important but Shidou did not know what they meant. And also, why was her relationship level 2? He has never met this woman in his entire life!

"I'm Murasame Reine," the woman introduced herself.

"Itsuka Shidou."

"I know."

"So, where am I, Murasame-san?"

"You are in the medical bay of the Fraxinus," Reine replied.

"Fraxinus," Shidou felt like he should know that name. It was at the tip of his tongue, the back of his mind. He couldn't quite recall though. Was it a government organization he studied?

"Follow me," the woman said and Shidou followed her without question. They traversed long hallways, the walls lined with LED lights and the gray of steel. Doors occurred rhythmically, all with plaques above them describing what they were for. Shidou could only properly read a few, like "cafeteria" and "weapons storage."

They kept walking until the hallway ended, leaving Shidou looking in wonder at the bridge of the ship. Glass panes perfectly lined the front, giving clear sight of what was in front of the ship, above, and below. Many screens hung from extensions from the ceiling, showing a live broadcast of Tengu city. It gave Shidou a bird's eye view over his home city.

"Commander, he is here," Reine led Shidou up to the commander's platform, where a tall, intimidating man of blonde hair stood in front of the commander's chair.

"You must be Itsuka Shidou I have been hearing about so much," the man approached Shidou and offered his hand. Shidou gulped as he shook it.

"I will be in your care," Shidou said.

"Move it Kannazuki," a voice that Shidou was all too familiar with spoke up from behind the man. The man stepped aside and the commander's chair swiveled around. "Hello, Onii-chan," Shidou saw the smug smirk on his little sister's face and decided he had had enough.

"Kotori."

"Yes?"

Shidou approached her and grabbed her by the face with one hand. "Kotori! What did I say about eating sweets before dinner?"

"Onii-chan no! Give it back!"

"No!" Shidou pulled out the lollipop from her mouth and put it in his own. With a tug, he pulled off the candy from the stick and crunched it mercilessly in front of Kotori. "Kotori, I have had enough of this. You will stop eating sweets before meals from this point on. I already told you this morning to stop it, did I not? I told you the next time I catch you, you will be grounded."

"But Onii-chaaaan!" tears appeared in Kotori's eyes.

"No is no. Seriously Kotori… I did not raise you up to be a spoiled brat like this…" Shidou sighed to himself. He turned to Kannazuki. "I'm sorry about that. I will have to teach my little sister some lessons later," he heard half the crew snickering while the other half was struck dumb, "Now, you were saying, Captain Kannazuki-san."

"Uhm… Shidou-san," Kannazuki began, he was one of the people struck dumb by Shidou's treatment of Kotori. "Your sister is the commander."

"Eh?" Shidou looked at his sister, who was on the verge of tears, and back to Captain Kannazuki. He looked at his sister again, who was wiping her tears (Shidou held himself back from giving her a hug), and back to the imposing Captain Kannazuki. He laughed. "Ha-ha-ha! You nearly got me there Captain Kannazuki-san but there is no way that my beloved little sister is a commander of this ship."

"Actually, she is," Reine spoke up. "You just manhandled the commander of the Fraxinus."

Fraxinus.

Something clicked in place.

Shidou remembered something. He looked at Kotori.

Name: Kotori Itsuka Ifrit

Relationship level: 1 My Beloved Imouto

Affections Points: 60/100

He had just bullied their commander in front of the whole ship. Shidou's smile turned wry as he looked at his beloved little sister. "I'm sorry, Commander Kotori."

"Onii-chan!"

Part 4

Shidou sat in a seiza position in front of his little sister. He was rather apologetic for his actions but didn't regret them. His little sister had been getting too cheeky lately and he did give her a fair warning that morning.

"Seriously my onii-chan…" he caught Kotori sighing to herself.

"Now that you're done scolding me," Shidou began. "Can you explain what just happened?" He was able to piece some things together with the help of his power but his deductions might be wrong.

"I suppose we owe you an explanation," Kotori took a lollipop out from her jacket. She glanced at Shidou, who was giving her a glare, before gingerly putting it back. She pouted at her older brother who gave her a stare. Kotori silently sighed before settling into her chair. "That girl that you met, the one with dark hair, she is what we call a Spirit. They are the cause of the spacequakes."

"So whenever a spacequake happens, she appears?" Shidou asked. "Wait, there are more of them?" he quickly added.

"Yes. The girl that you met is codenamed Princess. Others are called Ifrit, Berserk, and so on. We are aware of five Spirits residing in Japan and they have caused spacequakes and destruction wherever they went," Kotori explained. "They are very dangerous and have killed hundreds if not thousands of people."

So… Those girls who were fighting against "Princess" were trying to stop the spacequakes? What were these Spirits anyway? Where do they come from? What was their goal? From what Shidou could determine from his small encounter with Princess. She did not mean any harm. She only attacked to defend herself from those girls with Origami.

Origami—

"What happened to Origami?!" Shidou nearly shouted.

"The AST girl? She is fine. They are all fine."

Shidou exhaled in relief.

"Do note, Onii-chan, that the AST does not work with us," Kotori fiddled with her pockets, probably with the lollipop sticks. The action was not lost to Shidou.

"Kotori, you can go ahead and eat a lollipop," he said.

"Can I?" Kotori's eyes grew wide.

"You may."

"Thank you Onii-chan!" Kotori got up and hugged her brother. She quickly composed herself when she realized what she was doing and coughed into her fist. She took out a lollipop and unwrapped it. She rolled it around with her tongue as she sank into her commander's chair. "Now, as I was saying," she carried on. "The women with Tobiichi Origami-san are not with us. They believe that they can stop the spacequakes by defeating the Spirits, killing them."

That did not sound right to Shidou. "Is there another way?"

"There is," Kotori nodded. "In fact, the secret weapon we have is right here," she pointed her wet lollipop at Shidou.

Shidou looked behind him and saw nothing, only the Tengu city on the monitors. He turned back to Kotori who looked at him in amusement. "Me?" the gears in Shidou's head started moving.

"Yes, you."

"...don't tell me Kotori… That you are a Spirit?"

Kotori nodded as she stood up once again. With a wave of her hand, a large axe was in her hands. The axe breathed fire, quite like the fire that healed Shidou's wounds. Shidou dreaded it but somehow he knew it to be true. The curse that Kotori was suffering from… His ability to calm down her curse…

"Yes, Onii-chan," Kotori spoke. "I am a Spirit, codenamed Ifrit ," a pair of terrible, ebony horns appeared on the sides of her head.

"I…" Shidou didn't want to admit it. "...I see," but the fact of the matter was that his sister was a Spirit and had caused all those spacequakes. His thoughts went back to the fire five years back, back to when Kotori's curse first appeared. It was sad. It was grim. Shidou didn't know the guilt that plagued his sister's heart, but all he wanted to do was hug her, embrace her, comfort her.

"Onii-chan?" Kotori asked as Shidou caressed the back of her head, his hands softly stroking her pink hair comfortingly.

"I'm sorry, Kotori… I didn't know you were carrying such a heavy burden," he whispered softly.

Kotori turned pink in embarrassment. "...It wasn't that heavy. Thanks to you, Onii-chan." Despite the embarrassment, she leaned into the hug and pressed her face into her brother's chest.

"Ehem," the siblings heard Reine cough to get their attention. "May we please carry on with the explanations."

"Oh, right," Shidou slowly, unwillingly, released the hug and stepped away from his beloved sister. "Please carry on."

Kotori's horns and axe disappeared into fractals of red light, leaving her in what could only be called a "commander's uniform." A crimson coat over a long sleeved blouse and a neat necktie. A frilly skirt was secured by a belt and the sight of her milky white of her smooth thighs was quickly ended by dark thigh highs. She looked so mature…

What happened to Shidou's cute little sister? She looks all grown up now.

"Onii-chan, you have a gift. You have the power to seal a Spirit's powers."

"You mean… by kissing?"

"Yes," Kotori nodded. "Only you can do it. You are the only one who can."

"But… why me?"

"We do not understand either," Kotori said. "What we do know is that your body can hold the Spirit's powers, called Reiryoku, and seal them away. Like you did with me."

"So only I am able to seal the Spirit Princess and all the other Spirits?"

"Yes."

Shidou inhaled and exhaled loudly as he rubbed his face in between his palms. He didn't understand. Why was it him? Couldn't it have been anyone else? He was just a regular high school boy who had nothing to his name.

Shidou remembered the cold eyes of Princess. He remembered how her first instinct was to kill him. He remembered her fight with the AST, hunted by those who wanted to stop the space quakes. He decided that he didn't want that. Princess, who never had a name, deserved to have one. She deserved to have a happy life. A girl as beautiful as her deserved to live peacefully, without being hunted down for something she couldn't control.

Shidou raised his head. "I'll do it."

Kotori grinned widely. "I knew you would," she stood from her commander's chair. "Welcome, Itsuka Shidou, to Ratatoskr! Your code name will be [Sealer]!"

Part 5

Shidou found himself in front of the pizzeria that Kotori loved so much.

"It's closed," he commented.

"Mouuuuu~" Kotori whined. Shidou noted that she changed personality when she changed her ribbons, seeing that they were now white compared to the black pair she wore earlier. This little sister of his was adorable either way though.

"Come on," Shidou told Kotori.

"Where are we going?" she asked.

"To the supermarket to buy some pizza and ingredients," he said.

Kotori's eyes brightened and there was a skip in her step. "Oh, oh, oh! Yay!" she cheered. "Let's go! Onii-chan!" she jumped ahead and tugged Shidou by the arm. They barely got many steps forward when they bumped into Origami at the corner.

"I'm sorry!" Shidou apologized as he offered the girl a hand.

"Thank you, Shidou," Origami took his hand and stood up, dusting herself a little. Her light skin looked a bit pale and Shidou got worried.

"Or-"

"About what you saw earlier," Origami interrupted before Shidou could begin. "Please forget everything," she whispered.

"...I'm sorry, but I can't," Shidou said.

"I see," her eyes narrowed.

"But I won't tell anyone," Shidou added.

Origami's tense face relaxed. "I trust you."

"Are you Onii-chan's friend?" Kotori asked.

Origami turned to her. "No, I'm his wife," she said without skipping a beat.

"That's a lie!"

Kotori glared at Origami before scoffing. "Impossible, because I am going to be Onii-chan's wife."

"That's also a lie!" Shidou sighed. "We'll be having homemade pizza for dinner, do you want to join us?" he asked Origami.

"Yes."

"No! Onii-chan! Why did you invite herrrrr?" Kotori glared at Origami.

Origami gave Kotori a deadpan look. "Heh," she said in monotone, but Shidou felt the smugness radiating off of her.

"Why does it have to be a kiss?" Shidou asked quite dumbly. He mentally apologized to his sister who frowned.

Flames licked her clothes, lapping up at the light pink kimono. A pair of wicked, ebony horns protruded from the sides of her head, decorated with black ribbons with golden highlights. She pulled out the cleaned lollipop stick from her mouth and threw it into the trash bin.

"Onii-cha~n we went through this already," she moaned. "We tried everything already and only a kiss could seal my Spirit Powers."

"Did we try headpats?"

"Yes."

"Hugs?"

"Yes."

"...h*nd h*lding?"

"You degenerate. Yes," Kotori sighed. Adoptive, younger sister of Itsuka Shidou.

"And none of them worked?"

"Yes, yes, now kiss me already!"

Shidou's world turned black and white and all shades of gray. It was a sensation he could say wholeheartedly that he didn't miss. Four options appeared in front of him, exactly like those gal games he played. It was a "power" that he discovered he had when he was twelve, along with Kotori's fire powers.

The four options appeared like buttons in the air, floating just an arm's reach away from Shidou. The font of the text differed for each option but they all had the same color and outline. Shidou read them all from top to bottom.

You will be getting more than a kiss from me, sister dearest. It's time for some correction you little brat! PLAP PLAP PLAP

Gladly.

We can't do this! We're siblings!

███████

Yeah, this was exactly why Shidou hated this power of his. WHY? Why exactly did it show up now?

He stood up from the chair and walked around the kitchen. The fire on the stove that was cooking their lunch was frozen solid but still gave off heat. Shidou idly noted that the clock had stopped ticking, bringing his eyes to the calendar right below it. It was a Saturday, April 1, to be exact. April Fool's! So that's why his power was acting up now!

Shidou tore at his hair. No, that wasn't the point. His power acted up right now because his sister was having trouble with her spirit powers. It only acted up whenever her "seal" was loosening.

This also happened a year back, and Shidou didn't have second thoughts about kissing his sister back then. Now it was different though, Shidou thought that he had grown wiser. There had to be a more permanent solution than just kissing his sister every single year. That was just weird now that he thought about it!

But no, his gal game powers were forcing him to make a decision. As always, there were four options to choose from, time did not move as long as he didn't make a decision, and his body would be forced to move after he had made the decision. The first option was horny, it always was. The second was a bit better and the third would lead to a "bad end" as the games called it. The fourth was always random. Sometimes it would be a darkened box, sometimes it contained the text "Random," and sometimes it contained something much lewder than the first option.

Shidou picked the second option and color quickly returned to the world from its black and white.

"Gladly," Shidou was forced to say as he closed the gap in between him and his sister. His arm compulsively wrapped itself around Kotori's slim waist, pulling her towards him such that their lower bodies touched— much to Shidou's ashamed arousal. His other hand snaked its way behind Kotori's nape, gently cupping the back of her head.

"Onii-chan…" Kotori whispered softly as she closed her eyes and tilted her head upwards.

Shidou took a second to admire her pretty face, framed by her beautiful burnt pink hair. Her pink lips complimented her well and her eyelashes were cute. Shidou closed his eyes and leaned forward, kissing Kotori.
