The Soulbond
This story is based on the Kishin Douji Zenki manga, because I have the complete manga series but have watched only a few episodes of the anime.
Disclaimer: Kishin Douji Zenki belongs to Yoshihiro Kuroiwa (deceased), Kikuhide Tani, Shueisha and licensed entities. I'm just borrowing the characters for a bit of non-profit fun.
Prologue
The smell of a possession seed woke him up. He got up and started to run outside, towards the forest. There, in a tree was the seed. Zenki jumped and grabbed the seed and then...
Pain! There was a kind of wire binding him, and his surroundings faded into a cave with a pond that glowed yellow. Next to it was a shadow of a man that he had defeated before: Dokuro-sou.
"Now I will have my revenge, Zenki! This pond is filled with water from Yomi no Izumi. I will throw you in and your body will dissolve and your soul reincarnate, may it be as a lesser beast! I will bask in the sadness of your comrades!"
He threw Zenki into the deep pond and watched until he was completely submerged.
Chiaki and Gokimaru awoke in trepidation. They couldn't feel Zenki's presence anywhere near!
"Master, I can't feel Zenki in my range of sensing!"
"Me neither, Gokimaru-kun, I'll try to call him trough my armband!"
They were starting to panic when that didn't work. Suddenly, in the sky, there was the image of Enno Ozunu talking to them:
"My child, you and Goki must go to Zenki, he's in great trouble! If you delay he will be gone as you know him. Please help him adjust to the changes he will experience!"
In a flash Goki was in his kishin form and Chiaki was clad in the Divine Garment of Protection. Joining their forces, they felt for Zenki's presence... It was faint but, there it was! Fixing the location in their minds they pulled themselves towards the presence of Zenki... and appeared in a cave, with a glowing, yellow pond.
"Oh, you are here... No matter, your Zenki will be gone in a little while! My revenge will be complete with your desperation!
"Goki, take care of Dokuro-sou! I'll find Zenki"
Concentrating through the jewel on her hand, she reached for Zenki's presence, and pulled with all her soul's strength.
Meanwhile, Goki faced Dokuro-sou. Goki was baring his teeth to his enemy.
"How are you here, Dokuro-sou, you were dead!"
"It doesn't matter, I'm here to have my revenge on you three! You've grown, but are you stronger?"
Goki emptied his mind so Dokuro-sou could'nt read it, and readied his attack, while he was moving nearer his enemy in an aleatory fashion.
"Hyougazan!"
Dokuro-sou became a statue of ice that shattered into thousands of shards.
Chiaki was surrounded by a sphere of light, Zenki's presence surrounding her, in a vaguely human shape, She called in her mind: .:Zenki?:.
.:Chiaki? I can't feel my body, neither my sealed nor my true form!:.
.:You're in your astral body, and me too:.
Chiaki prayed to her ancestor: "Please Ozunu-sama, give me a way to get Zenki to have a body!"
In her mind a mantra was heard, while her soul was holding Zenki's soul with her, a warm feeling coursing through both of them... then the light flared and both of them fell to the ground.
Goki then ran to them to see if they were all right. Chiaki was okay, asleep in her pajamas, but Zenki was unconscious and naked... in a human body.

ドクロ僧: Dokuro-sou, an old enemy, subordinate of Inugami.
護法神衣: Gohoushin'i, Chiaki's Divine Garment of Protection.
氷牙斬: Hyougazan, Goki's ice attack.
黄泉の泉: Yomi no Izumi. Spring of the underworld where souls are cleansed of memories of their past life before reincarnating. (I may be wrong with the definition, I read about it a very long time ago. If I'm wrong, just treat it as true in this story)
