Prompt: I thought you were cute when I saw you at that restaurant and it turns out you're friends with my brother AU
Characters: Wendy and Romeo
Wendy blushed and quickly looked away, letting her blue hair fall around her face. She hadn't meant to be staring at the boy sitting at the table across from her, he'd just seemed cute and kind of familiar in a way. She just really hoped he hadn't caught her staring, that would be too embarrassing.
"Hey," a voice called from behind Wendy's shoulder. Slowly the bluenette turned to look. Oh no, she thought, it was the boy from the other table. The one she'd been staring at.
Wendy could feel the heat rushing up to her face as the blush climbed her round cheeks. She just barely managed to squeak out a "h-hey" of her own, sounding way too breathy and high-pitched.
The boy chuckled, stretching his arms behind his head, lightly ruffling his dark hair which was spiked up a bit with some sort of gel. He was wearing a vest, shorts, and a yellow scarf, and looked to be around Wendy's age. His black eyes met hers and he flashed her a big, friendly grin.
"You here by yourself? Mind if I join ya?" the boy asked.
Wendy just nodded and weakly managed to gesture to the chair across from her. The boy happily sliding in and giving her a friendly grin.
"I'm Romeo."
"Wendy" she managed to reply. She could still feel a bit of a blush, but her voice felt steadier at least. Maybe staring hadn't been such a bad thing, it had gotten him over here.
"I don't think I've seen you around here before, and I come here pretty often. My dad is a horrible cook, he always burns everything." Romeo chuckled, his hand going back to his hair.
Something about the gesture helped Wendy relax, maybe he was a little nervous too.
"Not super often, my brother really loves it here though."
"Yeah, Fairy Tail is the best! You've gotta try the chicken tenders, they come with a whole bunch of different sauces. I've been trying to work my heat tolerance up so I can try their volcano sauce but the hottest I've managed is the Red Hot which is the one below it," Romeo enthusiastically explained. It was fun seeing the sparkle in his eye as he talked about his love of chicken and hot sauces.
Wendy shifted her gaze to the table, "I'm not a big fan of spicy food" she said.
"No worries! They've got a really good Honey Garlic that's more of a sweet savoury."
Wendy gave Romeo a smile. "That sounds really good!"
The two were soon lost in their chatting, each ordering a plate of chicken tenders with their own preferred sauces. They were just in the process of exchanging numbers when a booming voice startled the two of them.
"YO!"
Wendy had to turn her head to see who was calling over to them and immediately recognized her brother, Natsu. His spiky pink hair was always a dead giveaway.
What surprised Wendy however was that Natsu didn't seem to be calling her. Instead, he strolled over to Romeo who had already jumped up to give Natsu a handshake that turned into a half hug, the two of them patting each other on the back.
"Romeo! You finally going to eat some Volcano Chicken?!"
"Nah, not today but soon! I'm gonna beat your record before you know it!"
Natsu cackled, "I seriously doubt that. Oh, hey Wendy!" The pink-haired young man finally noticed his sister who was frozen in surprise, her brain working to process what was happening.
"You two know each other?" she asked.
"Oh yeah, Romeo and I go way back! He and his dad are good friends."
"Oh wait, Wendy, you're THE Wendy! I didn't make the connection you two were siblings!"
Natsu gave another cackle, sneakily stealing some of the fries from the table. Wendy's brain spinning as she observed the two of them. Natsu's unruly pink spikes, Romeo's styled spikes, they were both in vests and shorts. Natsu fidgeted with his signature white scarf and Wendy's brown eyes went to the yellow scarf around Romeo's neck.
Romeo and I go way back Natsu had said.
Wendy felt the heat rise to her face as she realized why Romeo had seemed a touch familiar. He reminded her of her BROTHER. The way they were dressed, the large grins, the hot sauce. And she'd thought he was cute, did she think her brother was cute? No, maybe, what no! Like objectively, she knew her brother was attractive, but she wasn't attracted to him but she thought Romeo was cute and Romeo reminded her of Natsu…
Wendy's head was exploding. This was a lot.
The bluenette jumped up from the table, leaving some cash next to her plate.
"Where ya going, Wendy?
"Yeah, aren't you going to finish your food?"
"Full. Have to feed cat." Wendy managed to stammer out some responses to the two young men before sprinting out of the restaurant. She needed some serious self-reflection time with Carla and her diary.
