Chapter 43: The Beast Within him

The glasses-wearing girl with the Eevee jacket checked her phone as she walked in the middle of a forest. She hated being out in this time of day, especially with the sun out to hurt her eyes like this, but she had to. By the time she went outside to catch up with Kai, she saw on her phone that he approached a Team Star base, and then suddenly left. He was starting to approach it again.

"I'm pretty far… so I should call him right now," The girl said. She dialed the boy's phone number and pressed the call button.

Ring…

Ring…

"Oh- What's up Cassiopeia?" Kai said.

Hearing that code name always brought a slight shiver to the girl's spine. The fact that she hid her true name felt like a double-edged sword. Like the consequences were going to bite her one day. But she felt like it was better than using her true real name, Penny, was always a nice name to her- but having people know her true name would be somewhat troublesome. Penny pressed another button on her phone to activate a voice modification to hide her real voice.

"I see you're approaching a team star base. I wanted to let you know who you're up against." Penny pulled her phone from her ear and checked where exactly Kai was. He was nearing the base of Atticus. What was it that he wanted to call himself again...? Ah- right.

"The name of the boss who leads the Poison crew is Atticus," Penny continued, "The Hazy Venomous Star. He has Ninja techniques of which no one has ever seen. His Shining Star Ability is Ninjutsu. When he weaves ninja hand signs, he can use any move- even if his Pokémon doesn't know how to use it."

"That's super cool that he does ninja hand signs! He's like a real Ninja!"

Penny couldn't help but smile. "Yeah."

"So basically, he has the move Metronome, except he can control it... That's what you're saying, right?"

"Yes, but he has a limited number of times he can use it. Every time he uses Ninjutsu, it cuts away at his Pokémon's advice? Make him use his Ninjutsu until he weakens himself to the point of exhaustion."

"It's not a matter of if, only when I beat Atticus- Ninjutsus or not!"

"Your confidence is welcome but- he's a legitimate threat."

"So am I."

Penny sighed.

"Anywho- I'm going to bring another assistant of mine. She's on her way right now- her name is Penny. Not only that, but Clive should also be on his way too."

"All right- so should I just wait in front of the Team Star base?"

"Yes. They're on their way. Good luck."

"I dunno if I'll need it."

Penny turned off the phone and chuckled lightly at Kai's comment.

"You definitely will." She muttered. "Atticus is no joke."

Penny dialed the number Clive gave to her and called him.

"Hello?" Clive said.

Penny pressed the button on her phone to modify her voice before speaking once again. "You remember what we have to do if Kai refuses to bring down Team Star, right?"

"Of course."

"I just wanted to call you to make sure. My agent and Kai will see you at the rendezvous point. Godspeed."

Penny turned off the phone and sighed. This was way too much social interaction for one day, but a plan was a plan.

Kai tapped on one foot and crossed his arms as he waited for his two companions to show up.

"Hello!" Kai turned his head and saw Clive, who waved as he approached.

"Hi, Clive," Kai said.

"...Hello," A girl's voice caused Kai to spin around. He saw a girl with a eevee backpack.

"Who're you?" Kai asked.

"I'm the one Cassiopiea sent. My name is Penny."

"Ohh! You're penny!" Kai said. "I'm Kai. Love the outfit, by the way."

"...Uh-huh," Penny said, putting her hands in her jacket's pockets and looking away slightly. Her social battery was a little low, so she didn't want to make too much small talk as of right now. Although- the way she was acting was a little standoffish, so Penny decided she would say something else. "N-Nice to meet you too."

Why did she have to stutter? She sounded like a total dweeb. She wanted to sigh again, but she held it back.

"Well- it's time," Kai said. Kai spun to the entrance of Atticus's base and knocked on the door.

"Who is it?!" the voice com cried. "We're bus- Oh jeez- it's Kai!"

"Dang right it is!" Kai cried. "Lemme in so I can kick your butts!"

"All right then- fine! We're ready for you! Open the door!"

"Don't mind if I do.." Kai cracked his knuckles before pushing the two entrance doors creaked open.

The moment the doors completely opened, they revealed several Team Star members all waiting with their invokers on and their Pokemon out. Most of the Pokemon consisted of Poison types, like Zubats, Grimers and Grafaiais.

"Kai," Clive said, "There may be a lot of them, but-"

"If you're thinking I'm scared, don't worry," Kai activated his invoker, and he became clad in armor. He pulled out a Pokéball from his pocket as he approached the battle-hungry team star members.

There had to be more than fifty of them. The odds were stacked against him, but that didn't stop Kai from dropping his Pokeball to unleash his Pokemon: Pawmo. Pawmo roared in excitement as Kai walked past it.

"That scared part of me… is dead." Kai spoke as Pawmo leapt onto his trainer's shoulder. Kai pulled out a Tera orb from his other Pocket. "Because the beast within me… has awoken!" Kai crushed the tera orb, and an explosion of light erupted from below his feet.

Once the light faded, it revealed that Pawmo had disappeared, and Kai had electric gauntlets pulsating with fighting-type energy. An electric-type aura surrounded the boy, sparks of electricity came and went around him as he stepped forward.

"I can't wait to beat this guy..!" One team star member cried.

"Yeah- he thinks he can come here like he owns the place..!?" Another team Star member cried. "He's got another thing coming!"

Kai heard the negative comments being hurled his way, and couldn't help but smile. He entered a battle stance, then dashed toward the crowd of enemies.
