Chapter 4 – The Fairy Flu
One lovely afternoon in Dimmsdale, Timmy and Chloe had received an invitation to a birthday party. "Aw, rats," said Timmy. Just then, Cosmo and Wanda appeared as rats behind the twins, scaring them. "He said rat, right?" asked Cosmo. "I'm pretty sure that's what he said," said Wanda before transforming back into their normal fairy forms. "You guys don't understand. This is a totally disaster! I've been invited to a birthday party by the weird girl, Tootie," said Timmy while making a grossed-out face. Chloe slapped her hand on her face in frustration at her brother's expression. "Seriously, Timmy? Why do you complain about that kid so much?" she asked. "She's got a huge crush on me and she's Vicky's little sister!" he explained. Chloe screamed and darted her eyes nervously. "Icky with a V," she said before sticking out her tongue. "There's no way I can get out of it, either," he said to her. "I guarantee you our parents will tell us it would be a nice gesture if we'd go." He opened the door and their parents said exactly the same thing to their kids. Timmy slammed the door in frustration.
"Well, we're your fairy godparents," said Cosmo. "Why don't we go with you two?" suggested Wanda. "Yeah, we might even liven things up a little," said Cosmo, as he laughed with Wanda. Just then, he sneezed and a carousel landed on top of the twins. Wanda immediately made the amusement ride disappear with her wand. "Uh-oh. I must be catching IT," Cosmo said in fear. "What's IT?" asked Chloe, raising her left brow. "The Fairy Flu! It's a disease only us magic folk get," Cosmo explained. "It causes us to temporarily lose control of our powers," said Wanda. "Anything can happen!" cried Cosmo. "Well, we can't take you with us. No telling what problems you'll cause," said Timmy, panicking. "Maybe it's better if I stay here with your parents," suggested Cosmo. Then, without warning, he sneezed again, teleporting the entire house to the moon's surface. "On second thought, you better come with us," said Chloe.
Later that day, Timmy and Chloe were on their way to Vicky's house with birthday presents for Vicky's nine-year-old sister, Tootie. Timmy held Cosmo and Wanda, disguised as balloons towards their babysitter's house. "How do you feel, Cosmo?" he asked. "Great, Timmy. In fact, I think I'm over it," said Cosmo. The twins walked up to Vicky's front door and Chloe rang the doorbell. No sooner than when she did, did Cosmo let out another sneeze, transforming Timmy's head into a toilet. "Is that you, Timmy?" asked Tootie, answering the door. "Happy birthday, Tootie," said Timmy with his toilet head. Tootie screamed in horror and ran back inside the house to get her sister. "What's her problem?" asked Timmy. Wanda transformed his head back to normal as Chloe just rolled her eyes. "Your head was a toilet thanks to Cosmo," she said. Vicky opened the door and angrily scolded Timmy. "If isn't two of the twerp scouts out on their daily patrol," she said. "Are you trying to scare my little sister?" Tootie glanced from behind the door and noticed that Timmy had a normal face. "Great Halloween costume," she said and then dragged the twins inside. "Welcome to my party."
Kids in the living room were having fun at Tootie's birthday party, even messing with a clown who was questioning his life's choices. "Alright, you little skid marks. Listen up!" announced Vicky, causing everyone to stop what they were doing. "Hello there. I'm Vicky, and I'm THE ABSOLUTE RULER!" "How come you're the absolute ruler?" a snobby boy asked as the others backed away. "Because, my little artichoke. I'm sixteen and you're ten. DO THE MATH!" she explained to him, putting him in his place. "These are the party rules. I'm only going to say this once. So pay attention." Before she could start, however, Cosmo sneezed, transforming her into a frog, causing her to only be able to say ribbit. "Gasp!" exclaimed Wanda, transforming her back to normal. "Everybody got that?" asked Vicky, unaware that she was a frog a little while ago. The kids cheered, thinking that her changing was a party trick. Vicky mumbled to herself as she walked away. "Show-off," said the clown. "Come on Timmy and Chloe, let's play spin the bottle," said Tootie, dragging the twins to her room. The clown grabbed Cosmo and Wanda and asked the other kids, "Who likes balloons?" The kids responded enthusiastically.
Meanwhile, in Tootie's room, Tootie explained that the winner would have to kiss her. Timmy spun the bottle, hoping that it wouldn't land on him. The bottle stopped on a boy on the opposite side of Timmy. The boy blew on the bottle, pointing it in Timmy's direction. Back downstairs, the clown had finished tying Cosmo and Wanda into two balloon boa constrictors. Shortly after, Wanda sneezed, turning Tootie's teeth into metal fangs. The twins ran out of the room, screaming. Cosmo and Wanda continued sneezing until Wanda scolded her husband. "Thanks a lot, Mr. Contagious. Now I've got it!" she said. Tootie chased the twins around with her head continuously changing thanks to the effects of the Fairy Flu. "What cures the Fairy Flu?!" shouted Chloe. "An enormous amount of sauerkraut usually does the trick," said Cosmo. He transformed Tootie's head back to normal from being a Swiss army knife. "Tootie, we need sauerkraut now!" Timmy shouted in a panic.
During all of the chaos, Vicky had managed to get to her room to avoid dealing with Tootie and the guests. "Maybe now I can catch up on my beauty rest. Not that I need any," she laughed. As soon as she was on her bed, though, Cosmo and Wanda sneezed, turning her into a purple, green-spotted dragon. She ran out of her room and burst through the wall to wreak havoc downstairs as a dragon. Down in the kitchen, Tootie and Timmy were stuffing Cosmo and Wanda's mouths with sauerkraut while Chloe decided to try some. She stuck out her tongue in disgust. "This is so totally disgusting!" she cried. "Why are we stuffing sauerkraut into your balloons?" asked Tootie. "They're um… rare German balloons," Timmy lied. "Now stuff! Stuff like the wind!" Back in the living room, the dragon Vicky roared loudly, scaring both the clown and the guests at the party before breathing fire from out of her mouth. She eventually walked into the kitchen, scaring the three children, causing Tootie and Timmy to let go of Cosmo and Wanda. Wanda burped, causing the two fairies to return to normal and have their flu cured.
"Nice dragon. Good girl," Timmy pleaded to the dragon Vicky. He quickly dodged her face, which landed into the pot of sauerkraut that was on the table. "You guys, I don't mean to be a pest, but…" said Timmy, terrified of Vicky's dragon form. "Perish the thought," said Wanda, appearing with Cosmo in fairy form. "Just change her back to normal!" shrieked Chloe, equally as terrified. Vicky eventually got the pot off of her head and swallowed the remaining sauerkraut before Cosmo and Wanda changed her back to her normal human form in the nick of time. She ended up roaring in the twins' faces, resulting in them commenting on her bad breath. Vicky walked into the living room and was surprised to see it was destroyed and partially burnt, unaware that it was her doing, due to not knowing that she was a dragon a little bit ago. Tootie peered out from one of the chairs and ran up to Timmy in delight. "My hero!" she exclaimed, giving him a kiss on the cheek. Unfortunately, later that day, Timmy and Chloe found themselves in their beds with an allergy illness. "Hi, kids. It's Dr. Dad and Dr. Mom," said Mr. Turner, entering the room with his wife. Cosmo and Wanda quickly changed into two posters on the wall to avoid being discovered. He then explained that the sauerkraut allergy runs in the Turner family. "Great. Now you tell us," said Chloe, feeling stupid for trying the dish earlier at Tootie's party. Vicky poked her head in the doorway and said hi, causing Chloe to yelp in fear. "Well, we'll leave you kids alone," said Mr. Turner as he walked out of the room with his wife. Vicky then held up her little sister Tootie, who said hi to Timmy. "Nooo!" Timmy screamed, upon seeing his nine-year-old stalker. "I'll pick you up later, sis. Have fun," said Vicky, laughing at the twins' misery. "I'll sit by your side every second," said Tootie, getting on to Timmy's bunk. She then took out a bowl of sauerkraut, causing Timmy, Chloe, Cosmo, and Wanda to cringe, due to its almost inedible taste.
