Chapter 6 – The Zappys

It was late one night in Dimmsdale. Chloe was in the bathroom getting ready to brush her teeth, when she noticed something odd. She touched one of her front teeth with her finger, causing it to wiggle. "Aw, pumpernickel!" she exclaimed. Cosmo and Wanda appear behind her in their night gowns. "What's wrong, Chloe?" asked Cosmo. "It's a disaster! My one tooth is loose!" she exclaimed. "Hey, you're my fairy godparents. Could you guys fix it so it won't fall out?" "Sorry, Chloe, but that's Tooth Fairy territory," said Cosmo, causing Wanda to shake in jealousy. "Why is she the most popular fairy?" she asked Cosmo. "What do you expect? She puts money under people's pillows," explained Cosmo. "Hate to lose this tooth now. I won winning smile three years in a row with a full set of teeth," said Chloe, showing her winning smile awards on the bookshelf. Timmy walked up to his sister, half-asleep, wondering why she was complaining about her teeth late at night. Chloe rolled her eyes as Cosmo and Wanda checked out her trophies. "Wow. Must be nice to have all of those awards," said Wanda. "We've never won anything," said Cosmo, feeling disappointed. Just then, a fairy mailman appeared in the twins' bedroom, causing the four to look in his direction. "Message for Cosmo and Wanda," he said. He opened the letter and started reading. "Roses are red, violets are blue, sugar is sweet, and you guys have nominated for our 'Outstanding Godparenting Addition' at this year's Zappy Awards." "Hey, that last part didn't rhyme," said Chloe. "Who cares? Did you hear that Wanda?" Cosmo asked his wife. "We're up for a Zappy!" the two fairies cheered. "We've never been nominated for anything," Wanda explained to Timmy. "Why not?" he asked. "Well, Timmy, our godparent career has been speckled with," Cosmo began. "Failures," finished Wanda, obviously disappointed. Timmy read the letter and exclaimed, "It says here that we have come with you." "What are we waiting for?" shouted the fairies. They held up their wands and disappeared with their godchildren along with them.

At Planet Fairywood in Fairy World, the Zappys were being broadcast live on FTV, Fairy Television and being hosted by a reporter fairy named Wizzy. "Yes sir, there's certainly no shortage of magic celebrities here tonight," he said while reporting for his channel. As he spoke, Merlin the Magician, Santa Claus, Mother Nature, Jack Frost, and the pink-haired fairy, Cupid, flew over the red carpet. Just then, Jorgen walked along the red carpet and stopped in front of Cosmo and Wanda, who were with their godchildren. Timmy had on a black tuxedo, white shirt, and dark blue pants. Chloe was wearing a yellow-and-white dress with purple dress shoes. "Hello, tiny creatures," said Jorgen, as the crowd was booing him. "Hello Jorgen. This is Timmy and Chloe the kids we watch over," said Cosmo introducing the kids to him. Timmy and Chloe waved politely to the tough-looking fairy. "And this is Winston," said Jorgen, holding up a scared boy with red hair and a red-and-yellow shirt. "He's the boy I watch over. Make a wish. Now!" He held his wand up close to his godchild's face. "I WISH I COULD SEE THE AGE OF TWELVE!" cried Winston. "Ha, ha. He always makes that one," said Jorgen, thinking it was a joke. Timmy and the others looked at each in utter confusion, not knowing what to think of Jorgen.

Later on, inside the auditorium, the announcer introduced the host of the Zappy Awards, the fairy who would hand out the awards as Billy Crystal Ball. He was a fairy with blue hair, a white shirt, and a blue necktie. He was about to do a joke for the audience when Jorgen blasted a hole in the stage wall with his powerful wand. "Start the show. Do it now!" he demanded. Billy fled to the podium to start the award announcements. "And now, the nominees for best costume design," he announced. There was a fairy with bright blue pants and neon lights, another one with a fountain for a hat, and then there was Jorgen, who forced the host to give him the award just as he was about to give it to the first nominee. "Thank you," said Jorgen, flicking him away with his finger. "You like me. You really like me. You must like me!" The audience stopped booing and started cheering for the muscle-bound fairy. Billy then announced the best magical appearance award nominees. First, a fairy in a red dress appeared in magical swirls. Next, a robotic-like fairy appeared from pixelated graphics. Finally, Jorgen appeared from a huge explosion. Billy gave the award to Jorgen to keep the drill sergeant happy. "I don't want to thank anyone but me!" he gloated, taking the Zappy. "Are you kidding me? Is everybody afraid of that guy?" asked Chloe. "Yes," said Cosmo and Wanda, nodding their heads.

Finally, there was the Outstanding Godparenting award that Cosmo and Wanda are nominated for. "For this award, each child or children must explain why they love their fairy godparents," said Billy, now covered in bandages, with an IV and heart monitor, due to Jorgen's actions during the previous categories. Up first was a blonde girl with a ponytail named Sally and her tuxedo-wearing fairy, Stan. "Why do you love me, Sally?" he asked her. "I don't know," she said with her arms folded like a snob. He then showed her a dollar bill, which jogged her memory and gave him a hugging saying that she loved him. Jorgen and Winston were second in the nominations. "Why do you love me, Winston?" asked Jorgen, picking up the scared child. "Because you tell me to," he said nervously. "Because I tell you to WHAT?" the fairy clarified. "BECAUSE YOU TELL ME TO, SIR!" cried Winston. Billy was about to give the award to Jorgen when he asked Timmy and Chloe why they loved Cosmo and Wanda. "What do you mean why? They're our best friends," said Timmy, causing Chloe to smile at her brother. Everyone else, aside from Cosmo and Wanda, were shocked at his statement. "Friends? They're like the Partridge Family," one fairy said in disbelief. "They make us feel safe. They make us feel special. They make us feel loved. They may make a few mistakes like my sister, here, but they're our pals." Chloe, Cosmo, and Wanda shed a few tears as Timmy was talking. "And like my sister, I love them more than anything!" The four hugged each other and Chloe couldn't help but cry at her brother's speech. "I love you too, Timmy!" confessed Chloe. Billy denied Jorgen his Zappy and instead gave it to Cosmo and Wanda, due to Timmy's touching speech.

Suddenly, Jorgen blasted the wall again with his wand in a fit of rage. "I beg your pardon, but I think you have something that belongs to me," he said, threateningly. "No way, buster! You're not getting this award!" said Chloe, narrowing her eyes. Jorgen reached for the pillow, but Chloe leapt for it and grabbed the other end. Timmy, Cosmo, and Wanda helped Chloe attempt the pull the Zappy towards them, but then the pillow ripped and hit Chloe's tooth, knocking it loose under the pillow. Just then, the ever-popular tooth fairy appeared in her bath robe, as she was in the middle of taking a bath with a shower cap over her light blue hair. Cosmo sniffed her scent and said, "Minty, not mediciny." She quickly posed for a photographer before asking why Chloe lost her tooth one week early. "Well, ma'am, he made it fall out," said Chloe, now with a gap in her teeth, pointing to Jorgen. The muscular fairy nervously hid his wand behind his back and said, "Hi honey." Everyone was shocked to discover that Jorgen and the tooth fairy were dating. She admitted that her sweetheart has nice teeth. "Jorgen, darling. How many times have I told you how I hate being seen in public WITHOUT MY MAKE-UP?!" she scolded. She just smiled at the audience, letting them know that she was still the same person before dragging Jorgen by the ear. "Now then, I think you should apologize for knocking this young lady's tooth out." Jorgen nervously agreed with his girlfriend, knowing that he was in deep trouble with her. "Chloe, is there anything me or my muscles can do to make it up for you?" "Well, can I at least have some new toothpaste? I'm running out of my old one," said Chloe, nervously. Jorgen gave her a new tube of toothpaste, whereas the tooth fairy gave her the quarters in exchange for her tooth. "Cool, bubblegum flavored! Congratulations on winning the award, you two!" Cosmo and Wanda then admitted that winning didn't matter anymore, because the real prize was being with their godchildren.
