Chapter 2 Not One, But Two
After Christmas, the Sonoyamas spent the next few days adjusting to their new family dynamic.
Before long, New Years Eve had arrived, and they were holding a party to bring in the new year. However, the party had another purpose.
In their room, Migi and Dali were helping each other get ready while they discussed something.
"Migi", the later started. "I was thinking that one of us should go down first, and then, on the old couple's signal, the other will reveal themselves."
"Good idea, Dali", Migi said. "Which one of us should go down first?"
"If I go down, everyone will begin asking questions about my scar", Dali pointed out. "So you should go first, Migi."
After this, there was a knock on the door.
"May I come in boys", Osamu's voice asked from the other side.
"Come in", Migi replied.
Then, Osamu opened the door.
"The guests are beginning to arrive", he revealed. "Is one of you ready to come down?"
"Migi will come down first", Dali revealed. "And then, I'll come down once you two are ready to make the announcement."
"Excellent", Osamu said. "We'll try to do it as soon as all of the guest have settled in."
With this, Osamu was about to leave…when Dali started speaking.
"Mr Sonoyama", he started. "Are you and Mrs Sonoyama really okay with this? After everyone finds out the truth, they may question your choice to accept both Migi and I. I really don't mind staying in the shadows and letting Migi continue to be Sol…"
"Absolutely not", Osamu said, interrupting Dali. "Your mother and I want the both of you to be free to live your own lives. If the rest of the village judges us for accepting the two of you, then so be it."
After hearing this, tears started forming in Dali's eyes.
"Mr Sonoyama", he said, before wiping his tears away, and smiling. "Okay!"
Hearing his brother say this made Migi smile, before turning to the old man.
"Come on, Mr Sonoyama", he started. "The party's started, so let's go downstairs!"
...
Even though the party had just started, the house was already filled with guests.
Migi stood at the front of the living room with the Sonoyamas, and Yōko got everyone's attention by knocking her wine glass with a knife.
"Can I have your attention, everyone? First of all, we wanted to thank all of you for coming to our New Years Eve party!"
After saying this, Yōko looked at her husband, and they both nodded. They then looked at Migi, who nodded as well.
"However", Osamu started. "There is actually another reason why we invited you all here tonight. It's because…there's someone we'd like to introduce you all to."
Upon hearing this, all of the guests (minus Akiyama and Matura) looked at each other in confusion.
"Oh dear", Yōko called out. "You can come out now!"
When he heard this, Dali took a deep breath. Then, he walked out from the wall he was hiding behind, and into the view of all the guests.
When they saw this, they looked back and forth between Migi and Dali in confusion and shock.
"Is that, another Solo?"
"There's two of them?"
"How can that be?"
"What's going on?"
These are some of things Dali heard as he walked up to his family. Once he reached them, he stood next to his brother and looked up at the guests.
"Surprise everyone", Yōko started. "Turns out we actually adopted two boys instead of one!"
"Why don't you two introduce yourselves", Osamu suggested.
"Right", Migi said happily, before turning to face the guests. "It's nice to meet you all again, everybody! My name is Migi!"
"H…hello, everyone", Dali greeted. "My name is Dali."
Hearing this made the guests even more confused, and they began discussing what was going on.
"Migi and Dali?"
"Wait a minute? Are they twins?"
"Which one of them was Solo?"
"You must be all very confused right now", Osamu started. "So, I'll allow Migi and Dali to explain what happened."
"What happened", Migi asked, not sure how much of the truth they should reveal. "Well…"
"When we were really young, we used to live with our mother on top of a hill that overlooks Origon Village", Dali revealed, taking lead of the situation. "Every night, she would stand on that hill and look at the village longingly. She died before we could find out why she loved the village so much. So, when we heard that a couple from here was coming to the orphanage to adopt a child, we thought it'd be the perfect chance to find out more about our mother. However, we heard that the couple was planning on only adopting one child. So, we decided to pretend to be one child, and took turns playing the role of 'Solo.'"
"However", Yōko started. "Despite Migi and Dali's best efforts to pretend to be one person, we began to notice the differences in the two, and eventually figured out what was going on."
"And now", Osamu started. "We have been blessed with not one, but two wonderful sons, and we couldn't be happier!"
"We know that this all a lot to take in", Yōko started. "But, we please ask you to be kind to our dear Migi and Dali. These two have been through so much, and they deserve to live happy lives!"
After hearing this, Migi and Dali looked down as their cheeks turned pink with the warmth they felt in their hearts. They then looked at each other, and smiled.
