Chapter 26
Ava was in her lab picking up another Dark Aether Rift within the Tier 3 Zone. Largest one to date. Time was running out as the veil between our world and The Dark Aether was thinning by each passing moment. The time for running was long over. It was time to take the fight to The Entity once and for all. But she knows she can't do this alone. It was getting late at Deadbolt HQ so she used the opportunity to call in Jill, Soap and Ravenov to Ops for debrief.
"Sorry to interrupt any nighttime rituals but, I've just gotten wind of one last Anomaly within the heart of the Tier 3 Zone. As much as I'd love to remain upset at Ravenov, I'm gonna need some help. We need to take the fight to The Entity at her home turf. We take her out, we contain this outbreak once and for all." Ava explained.
"When do we start?" asked Soap.
"First thing in the morning. We head to the Tier 3 Zone, we jump right in. Suggest you lot come prepared." said Ava.
"Ava...If I may, I'd like to apologize for the things I said. Jill, Ava. It was all out of line. If we do intend to face The Entity head on, I'd like to do so united as a team." said Ravenov.
"We came here to end an outbreak, that's exactly what we're going to do. As a team." said Jill.
"Glad to hear we're all on the same page. Get some rest. If you have any last minute phone calls you wish to make, tonight's the time to do so. Maybe we don't make it out alive. Maybe we do." said Ava.
Soap in his room heads to his laptop to contact the 141.
"Johnny?"
"LT"
"I take it the containment Op is going well still?" said Ghost.
"Tomorrow it ends Ghost. We're making a play to hit them where they live and take out the source for good." Soap explains.
"We wrapped up her job here in Madripoor. Old Man is having us head back to New York. Hopefully we'll see you both soon." said Ghost.
"In case I don't..."
"You will Johnny. We didn't bust our arses trying to get you back to the land of the living just for you to die on us again. You got this." assured Ghost.
"Solid copy" said Soap.
"Anything you need from us before you go?" asked Ghost
"Actually...I do..." said Soap.
Jill sits in her bed holding the picture of her, Chris and Rose. She thinks of the memories she's made with her since Chris introduced her for the first time. She thought about what she told Ravenov about choosing to be her mother and she helped Chris raise her. Giving her toys, taking her to school and just overall giving the child a sense of normalcy away from their lives fighting bioterrorism whenever they can. Jill never considered herself a hero. But she's only driven to right the wrongs of the past. Tomorrow is finally the end in sight of the Urzikstan Outbreak and she will see it finished.
The Next Day.
Ava and Ravenov drove a heavily armored vehicle into the Tier 3 Zone with Jill and Soap in the back. The two brought out the big guns, literally in the form of Jill's loadout of her Samurai Edge JAK Intimidator Renetti and the JAK Annihilator Bullpup Kit for the Pulemyot 762 LMG with a reflex sight while Soap had the Reclaimer-18 shotgun and the JAK Shadow Titan Kit for the Bruen Mk9 LMG. On top of all that, both were decked out in Juggernaut heavy body armor.
"We're here. There's a lot of zombies in the area between here and that rift. Get ready." said Ravenov as the armored vehicle parks.
"You sure this armor will protect us?" asked Jill while putting on her helmet.
The sounds of the zombies were faintly heard outside.
"It'll buy us time. This is it Jill, The Entity can't enter this world, She's not leaving here alive."
Soap puts on his helmet as Jill readies her LMG.
"You with me Johnny?" asked Jill.
"You know it JV" said Soap.
"Let's fucking go!"
Jill shoulder bashes the back door open as she as Soap mowed down all the zombies by the rift, giving Ravenov and Ava a safe escort.
"All clear!" shouts Jill.
Ava and Ravenov armed up join up with the others right at the entrance.
"Too late to turn back now." said Soap.
"We're not running anymore." said Ava.
"Da, let us finish this and end this nightmare for good." said Ravenov.
Ava uses her hand to enter the team into the Dark Aether Rift as it was the point of no return for them. The team arrived at none other than a familiar setting.
"About time, I wasn't sure how long I could sustain that rift, this is all very new to me." said Ava.
"Steamin' Jesus. You seeing this Jill?" asked Soap.
"Al Mazrah City. Back where this all began for us." said Jill taking in this full circle moment.
"This was where the outbreak in Al Mazrah happened?" asked Ravenov.
"The epicenter. Makarov set off the Nova 6 gas nearby actually. It took all of us to stop it and sent the cure airborne." explained Jill.
"Bastard Makarov got away as a giant monster terrorized the city. Laswell took control of an AC-130 to put it down for good." said Soap.
"So, where do we go from here?" asked Jill.
"Sister...You have returned..." said The Entity.
"Der'mo. It has sensed us already" said Ravenov.
Ava looks ahead at the Highrise tower covered in an Aether storm.
"That tower...I can feel her presence. But there's something else...by those lights."
Jill and Soap take point taking in the Dark Aetherfied familiar surroundings. Fog covering the area, crystals aimed at specific directions.
Jill walks up to one of the crystals as she's launched into the air and lands on a nearby roof.
"Jill? You alright?" asked Soap.
"I'm fine. We can use these crystals as a jump pad across."
"Good thinking Jill." said Ravenov.
Soap joins Jill as Ava and Ravenov teleport over. Soap sees a red crystal and goes to shoot it.
"Looks like the red crystals can be made into these jump pads."
"Good to note. Heads up, we got zombies incoming from all directions." said Ava.
The team fight their way and leap across buildings from a single bound until they come across an obelisk.
"The energy here feels familiar...nostalgic." said Ava.
"Careful, the Dark Aether is try to lull you"
"No. It's weaving physical forms from our shared memories. I can feel them nearby. Round them up for me?" asked Ava.
The artifacts from Jill's past adventures in the Dark Aether rifts scatter nearby as she goes to collect them for Ava as they all form around the Obelisk. Ava then focused her powers onto the Obelisk as it required souls from the zombies.
"Keep your distance, little soldiers. Those are OURS" said The Entity.
"These memories bind us together. Time to take them back!" said Ava.
The obelisk began to cleanse the artifacts as Soap, Ravenov and Jill held the zombies, buying Ava time.
"Don't take those...We'll have nothing left" pleaded The Entity.
The zombies dropped faster than flies with the obelisk is fed souls at a rapid rate.
"I can feel her grip loosening, nearly there!" said Ava.
The obelisk finishes as the influence of The Entity begins to weaken.
"I can feel the shape of our memories, but they are empty, hollow, their content is gone. You do not know what you are. you do not understand what we are" said The Entity.
"I don't care. I just want you out of my life." said Ava.
"There's gotta be more around. " said Soap reloading.
"Ravenov, I can feel more relics out there. We need to find them." said Ava.
The team found the next Obelisk on the streets below.
"Alright Jill, rinse and repeat." said Ava sending Jill to find the next batch of relics.
With each on the Obelisk, Ava got to work.
"Wow. I haven't seen these in an age. Let me get to work on how to untangle these."
"Take your time Doc, we got your back" assured Jill.
"No! You will not steal from us! Not again!" said The Entity.
"What a brat. You're only putting it off sister. I'm taking my life back!" said Ava.
"More zombies inbound!" said Jill.
"Sorry sis. It's time you stopped living vicariously, these memories are mine!" said Ava as the artifact cleansing finished.
"There is comfort in our union. There is safety here. We are begging you, stop." pleaded The Entity
"I'm sorry. This bond, it's destroying our world. I can't allow that." said Ava.
"Look, the storm above the tower is breaking!" said Ravenov.
"I can't feel anymore memories around here. Let's head to that tower." said Ava.
"Gonna be a long climb up" said Soap.
"It's always the tallest hills to climb when you're reaching the end." said Jill.
The team reach the Highrise Tower as Ava teleports herself and Ravenov to the top.
"Sorry guys, I can't take you with us. You'll need to find your own way up.
Soap sees a floating train passing by.
"Jill" he nods over.
The two jump on and take in the sights as they slowly ascend upwards.
"That train should take you about halfway up, you'll have to find another to take the rest of the way up." said Ava.
Jill and Soap land on a floating platform and take a floating bus the rest of the way up.
"Jill? You alright?" asked Soap.
"I'm fine. Just locked in. That's all." she explained.
"Home stretch right? We finish here, we have a beer to celebrate."
"Sure Johnny." Jill said as she finishes a reload.
They reached the roof and cleared it out. Ravenov noticed a green Aether tear for Jill and Soap to take.
"That Aether tear should allow you to continue towards us."
Jill and Soap took jump pad to jump pad ascending further upwards towards the boat floating.
"Do not forsake our protection, Sister. There are other beings here. Powerful. Ancient. They see you. They sense your power. They desire it." said The Entity.
"I never wanted any of this. Why can't you just leave me alone?" asked Ava.
"All we have ever done is keep you safe. We are family." said The Entity.
"And all my safety will cost is our world? No sale" said Ava.
The team finally arrived onboard the boat.
"This is the right path. I can feel that she's...scared?" said Ava.
"Good. She should be" said Jill.
They clear the deck and fight through to one last Aether tear.
"What...What is this place?" asked Ravenov.
"She's watching us. She's close. This is her place."
Jill and Soap see an altar ahead and parachute towards it.
"See ya there" she said.
They both land as Ava and Ravenov appear by the altar with the cleansed artifacts.
"This ends now! Show yourself!" demanded Ava.
Ava powers up the artifacts as The Entity at long last, makes her appearance.
"Holy shit..." said Jill in genuine awe at the otherworld being.
"Hell's fucking bells..." added Soap.
"Sister, if you will not join us, we will do what we must to protect you!" said The Entity.
"Ava, do whatever you need to do. Jill, Soap, weapons free!" said Ravenov.
They all opened fire onto The Entity after it fired a laser beam blast from her hand.
"Let's send this bitch to Hell with everything we got! A Deadbolt all expense paid trip!" said Soap.
The Entity takes more damage as orbs formed on its body.
"Target those orbs!" shouts Jill.
As The Entity continues to take more damage, she retreats to other floating platforms in the area.
"Johnny, Ravenov, take the other platforms. Maybe we can split up and take this bitch down faster. She can't dodge us forever." said Jill.
The three took turns from different positions, getting their licks in against The Entity. Their combined efforts were enough to defeat The Entity.
"Is...Is she gone?" asked Ravenov.
"Seemed a bit too easy" said Soap.
"I'm...I'm not sure. I can't feel her...But..."
Jill then sees a rift, as she goes for it, it disappeared all part of a trap.
"She's still here, watch out!" said Ava.
"We are done trying to reason. You will join us." said The Entity letting out a scream.
"I told you, GET AWAY FROM HER YOU BITCH!"
Jill opens fire onto The Entity having enough of all of this.
"Pizdets! Our weapons have no effect. She is shielded somehow." said Ravenov.
"I think I can burn out the last of our connection to overload. Buy me some time!" said Ava.
"You heard the good doctor. We need some cover here." said Ravenov.
The Obelisk needed souls as the trio killed enough for Ava to get The Entity vulnerable again.
"Ngh...Try now!" shouted Ava.
"We do not think so!"
The Entity targets Jill and Soap.
"We have had enough of you Little Soldier and Little Star."
They both get their Juggernaut armor shredded and stripped down to their gear and tossed to the ground.
"JILL! SARGEANT!" shouted Ravenov.
"You will not stop us either!"
The Entity stops and holds them all in place as she infiltrates Jill and Soap's mind.
Jill and Soap awaken within a new location.
"Jill?"
"Johnny?"
"Our armor got shredded. Where are we?" asked Soap.
Jill then looks around and sees she's wearing a familiar outfit.
"This hallway...Oh no..." said Jill picking up a Beretta handgun for her and Soap.
"Wait Jill!"
Soap follows as Jill took the lead to confirm a suspicion. She busted the door open and saw a man in a black trench coat and sunglasses with a dead old man next to him.
"Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star, Lost in Nightmares is where you are!" said The Entity as she took them to the Spencer Estate the night Jill died.
The Man looked back at the two as lightning flashes in the background.
"Wesker!"
Jill opens fire along with Soap. Wesker dodges each gunshot with effortless ease.
"What the fuck?"
Wesker goes for Soap first as he disarms him and hits a palm strike with a force to send him flying into the bookshelf.
Jill continued to fire shots until she ran out of ammo. Wesker hits a series of attacks so fast, Jill couldn't react and pins her to the wall with a choke.
Soap then makes a running right hook only to miss and starts swinging until his fist gets caught.
Jill goes for kicks onto Wesker with all her might and pent up guilt and frustration. Wesker tosses Soap onto Jill and sends him flying onto a pillar. He then grabs Jill by the neck and slides her across a table sending her flying by the window.
Wesker slowly walks up to Jill and picked her up by the throat.
Soap comes to and realizes what's happening.
"Shite NO!"
Wesker was about to go for the killing blow.
"Let's finish this!"
Soap lets out a scream and hits Wesker with a tackle to free Jill from the grasp sending them both out the window.
"SOOOOOAAAAAP!" screamed Jill.
However Soap grabbed onto some rock as he dangled on with Wesker falling to his death.
"Jill!"
"Hold on. Take my hand!"
As Jill takes Soap's hand, a blinding light washes over them. They're both taken elsewhere with a sense of familiarity.
"Johnny?"
Jill rushes over to hug him with relief.
"I know this place..." said Soap.
The Entity took them both to the London Chunnel the day Soap died.
"Jill, the bomb!"
The duo set up shop by the bomb and pulled out snake cams.
"I'm in. Talk to me Jill. Let's see if your Delta Force Training still works."
"Bomb's dirty Soap. C4 and radioactive powder. I need the manufacturer logo on the circuit board." she said.
"The logo on the circuit board is a Bear." Soap answered.
"Copy Bear. Cutting the wire. Got it! That bought us some time." said Jill.
"Be advised, Makarov is in the chunnel. He's heading your way" said The Entity mocking them."
"Soap, you hear that?"
"I'm not leaving this bomb Jill. What's next?" he asked.
"Locate the blasting cap. Bottom left hand corner" said Jill.
"Copy, blasting cap is attached to the C4"
"Good. There's a serial number on it. Gimme the third number." Jill asked.
"Third number is a nine!" said Soap.
"Copy, good work! This bomb has two fuses! We need to cut both at the same time. Red wire." Jill instructed.
She then hears footsteps behind her as they turn to see Makarov.
He shoots at Jill first, then Soap.
"JILL!...Jill..."
Soap sees her down and out as Makarov steps on his forearms.
"I told you I'd see you again. MacTavish.."
Jill rushes in with a knife with one good arm and stabbed Makarov's shoulder. But she doesn't go down without a fight. She pulls it put and goes for another stab and takes them both down. Makarov pummels her until Jill hits back with a headbutt. They tussle as Soap began to finally put the pieces together on how he died. Time slows down for Soap as Makarov gets Jill into the same position he was on that day. And that's when it clicked.
Soap got flashes of Price down and out as he goes for the save and sees how Makarov blew his head off clean with Gaz and Ghost arriving a second too late. Soap sees his cremation and his ashes scattered across the Highlands of Scotland. Soap with all the strength he has left saves Jill from Makarov and took his gun.
"The next time I see you again Vlad, I'll make sure I won't bury my enemy alive."
Soap takes the shot as the white flashing light engulfs them again, this time back to the fight with The Entity.
