"Feels like we're going in circles at this point." Rosa complained, as the duo re entered Floccesy Town.
"Relax, we can spend the night here and tomorrow we'll head to Virbank City." Ash said calmly.
"And what are we going to do in the meantime? We could've had lunch at my house, and relaxed." Rosa said.
"There's plenty to do if you just look around." Ash said, before noticing the signs of a battle. "Like over there!"
Ash and Pikachu raced towards the north end of the city to find two kids battling with Pokemon he'd never seen before.
"Whoa! What are those Pokemon?!" Ash exclaimed.
"Hi, I'm Cassie, and this is my Pokemon, the fire type Pansear." The girl said.
"I'm Seymour and this is my Pokemon, the water type Panpour." The boy said.
"I'm Ash and this is my partner Pikachu, an electric type." Ash said, rubbing Pikachu's head.
"Oh he's so cute!" Cassie squealed.
"So were you two battling?" Ash asked.
"They were." An older man said stepping out of the house as Rosa approached. "Though I see an interesting opportunity here. Would you be willing to help in a double battle practice?"
"Don't have to ask them twice for a battle." Rosa commented.
"What about you?" Cassie asked.
"What do you mean?" Rosa asked in response.
"Well it is a double battle, so two on two, it's only fair if you also fight." Ash responded.
"You and I both know you could handle this battle on your own." Rosa reminded.
"Yeah but where's the fun in that?" Ash asked, grabbing a Pokeball. "We accept your challenge!"
"Alright then, trainers to either side of the arena." The older man said. "Now send out your Pokemon!"
"Pansear let's go!" Cassie called out.
"Panpour let's show them what we'be been practicing." Seymour said.
"Lillipup let's go, I guess." Rosa said, setting down Lillipup.
"Snivy I choose you!" Ash called out.
"Panpour use Scratch!"
"Pansear use Lick!"
"Lillipup use Return!"
"Snivy use Vine Whip!"
Snivy locked their vines against Pansear as Lillipup and Panpour traded blows.
"Panpour use Water Gun!"
"Pansage use Ember!"
The two elemental attacks sent Lillipup and Snivy tumbling back a few feet.
"I think it's time." Ash said.
"I still can't believe you got Cheren to teach us this." Rosa said.
Flashback
"Along with winning the gym badge, I'd like to be able to teach one of your Pokemon my gyms signature move, Work Up, it raises their attack stats when used." Cheren offered.
"Could I let Rosa learn it?" Ash asked.
"Highly unusual, why though?" Cheren asked.
"If she and Lillipup are going to be traveling with me, I think they should know a set up move, and I mean that one sounds pretty good." Ash said.
"Well if she agrees to it, I suppose there's no harm." Cheren said.
End Flashback
"You did agree to it after all." Ash said. "Snivy use Vine Whip on both of them!"
"Lillipup use Work Up!" Rosa called out.
Two vines shot out from Snivy's back, whipping at the monkey Pokemon as Lillipup growled and barked, riling itself up a bit.
"Panpour use Leer!"
"Pansear you use Leer too!"
"Snivy take them and use Energy Ball!"
Snivy got between the glares of the monkeys and Lillipup before sending a ball of green energy at Panpour sending it tumbling back.
"Lillipup use Return!"
Lillipup rushed forward, slamming into Pansear, knocking it into a pile with its water typed counterpart.
"Excellent battling from all of you." The man said.
"Thanks, why don't you go a round?" Ash asked, noticing the man's Pokeballs.
"Ash! That's Alder!" Rosa whispered angrily.
"Who?" Ash asked obliviously.
"Alder! The champion of Unova!" Rosa said angrily.
"Oh, now that's a battle I definitely want! Right Pikachu!" Ash exclaimed.
"Haha, I like your energy kid, but I'm not the champion anymore, I've retired and spend my time training new young trainers like these two." Alder said.
"Come on! One battle please." Ash practically begged.
"I'm sorry about him Mr Alder sir, he's, well I don't really know what's wrong with him." Rosa admitted.
"Very well Ash, I will take your challenge of a one on one match." Alder said with a chuckle. "Come out my old friend, Bouffulant!"
"Pikachu let's go!" Ash exclaimed. "Snivy you were great."
"The first move is yours Ash." Alder said.
"Alright then! Pikachu use Volt Tackle!"
"Bouffalant use Wild Charge!"
The two Pokemon were bathed in electricity, charging into one another, sending Pikachu tumbling back from the impact.
"Pikachu use Iron Tail!"
"Bouffalant use Head Charge!"
Pikachu swung his tail, getting it stuck in Bouffalant's afro before being tossed aside once more.
"Don't let up Pikachu, use Thunderbolt!"
"Bouffalant use Mega Horn!"
Pikachu sent a bolt of electricity at Bouffalant, stunning it for a moment before it rushed through, sending Pikachu up and into the air.
"Pikachu use Thunderbolt!"
Pikachu flipped around midair, sending out a bolt of electricity before landing back on the ground smugly looking at Bouffalant as the buffalo Pokemon shook off most of the attack.
"Bouffalant use Earthquake!"
Bouffalant slammed their front hooves down on the ground sending out a shockwave that tossed everyone off of their feet and beat Pikachu.
"Pika." Pikachu said weakly.
"That was some impressive battling Ash." Alder said, helping Ash up.
"Really, thanks." Ash said sheepishly.
"Of course, and thank you for an enjoyable battle." Alder said with a chuckle.
"Well come on Ash, we should get your Pokemon healed if you want to be back on our way to Virbank by tomorrow morning." Rosa said, long done with the battling.
Authors note
Snivy suddenly knowing Energy Ball isn't so sudden as in Black and White 2, beyond the pond next to the player's house is the TM for Energy Ball.
