Chapter 7
NCPD had arrived on the scene and arrested both the "doctor" and the receptionist. At a minimum they had both of them committing fraud. Once the interior of the office was searched, it was discovered that the "medical" fridge contained more Snakebite.
"What a cluster," M'gann shook her head. The heroes stood outside the "doctor's" office watching NCPD and their crime scene unit go back and forth from the building.
"Hopefully Brainy will get something off of that security footage from the community center," Kara said. The twelfth level intellect and Nia had headed back to the Tower to get working on the footage.
"You think he's lying?" The Martian asked.
"Even if he was, we've effectively cut off Enigma's gun and Snakebite supply. She'll pop out of the woodwork sooner than later," Kara figured. The two were not voicing everything that the supposed doctor had given them. They needed to regroup and bring everyone up to speed.
"I've put word out to Lyla. She'll meet us at the Tower in an hour," J'onn's voice came over the comms.
"Be back shortly Papa Bear," Kara promised. M'gann chuckled and turned to face her friend,
"So, is that his codename now?"
"Yup. Reminds him that he is loved all over the world," Kara winked at her. Captain Brannon from NCPD walked up to the two ladies.
"Can I assume that this is about our psycho of the month?" The middle-aged man asked.
"Yes sir," Kara told him. He heaved a sigh before continuing,
"We're running prints off that flyer that you gave us. We also sent a call to anyone via the news agencies who saw that letter to turn themselves into their local precinct and that they are not in trouble."
"Good but I worry that they might already have been injected with Snakebite. They longer they are hooked on that stuff… we've disrupted supply for sure. ARGUS will be contacting the hospitals with the antidote as soon as they've synthesized it. Now that they have samples, hopefully it won't take long," Kara told him.
"You've covered all the bases. We'll let you know what else we find," Brannon promised.
"Same," the blonde smiled and then she took to the sky with M'gann right behind her.
"He seem beaten down to you?" The Martian wondered as they flew back to the Tower.
"I can imagine he is. Another dangerous drug has hit the street with an untold number of victims. He used to work narcotics so…" Kara heaved her own sigh.
"So, he's seen enough of it," M'gann nodded. The two remained quiet until they landed on the balcony at the Tower.
"Good, the gang is all here," J'onn smiled at the two of them and Kara could see Alex and Kelly had joined them. The blonde had felt bad about brushing her sister off earlier, but she was glad to see her now.
"So, everyone here is up to date – barring the discussion with this doctor character," J'onn told the two newcomers.
"Frank Denison is the name of man playing doctor at the property we dealt with today. NCPD says that he has a record so it's not surprising that he would be willing to run a scam like this one. He did not seem to be under the influence of Snakebite nor Enigma. He readily coughed up the plan without me having to do much pressing," Kara admitted.
"Enigma wanted to rebuild her army here in National City. Her plan was to use people to work her way up to people in government," M'gann continued.
"How was she expecting to get up that high?" Alex asked.
"Well, that part was going to be easier considering that she'd had Cat Grant whacked over the head in the parking garage and then they injected her with Snakebite," Kara heaved a sigh.
"She has a meeting with the mayor's press secretary tomorrow," Nia said.
"We better sort this out quick," J'onn told them.
